Manual account set up not a valid, IMAP option not available

I'm trying to set up an IMAP account in Mail 4.1 in Max OS X 10.6.1. for an e-mail account which I usually access via the web according to these instructions
http://help.outlook.com/en-gb/140/cc511390.aspx
I enter Full Name, e-mail address and password in the Add account box. When I click OK Mail identifies the e-mail server automatically without prompting me to indicate the type of account (i.e. IMAP, POP, Exchange, etc.). The result is that the new account is (correctly) created in Mail, but as an Exchange 2007 account rather than an IMAP account, as desired. (Step 3 in the instructions on the above link is skipped.) I was recommended by the support staff of the e-mail service to use IMAP, so it should definitely be possible from a technical point of view.
In the "Add account" box where Name, e-mail address and password are inserted, there should be a box which you can tick to select the option "Automatically set up account", at least according to some tutorials and screenshots I've seen on the web. However, this box is not shown in the process described above (it is not greyed out or something, it is not there.)The default seems to be automatic set up, and this prevents me from setting up the IMAP account.
Anyone knows how to bypass this inconvenience and conduct a manual set up?

After you have filled in first screen of the Mail Setup Assistant, hold down the Option key until the Create button changes to be Continue, then click on Continue and you can have the choice to setup as IMAP.
Thanks Ernie, That was very helpful. I scoured the discussions lists to find this info
Is there a resource for other instructions/changes on the revisions in Mail 4.x? I had lots of trouble finding information about this option thing. In the older mail.app versions the selection tab was right there when creating an account, now it's only revealed if you hold down the option key when in the last field exposing the Continue tab.
Am I guessing right? Is that because for MobileMe (at least), Mail.app. auto-detects the type of account and sets it up automagically. Sadly, not all IMAP accounts are this way

  • Apex 4.1. cannot see the details of not null validations generated by apex

    Hi there,
I have worked with APEX 3 quite a while. Now I move to new place, and they use APEX 4.
I am currently doing the Advanced Tutorials - Issues Tracker (written for 3.2 ) on an APEX 4.1.
I am quite impressed with a lot of enhanced features of APEX 4.
However, I think I got quite confused about the NOT NULL vaildations.
In the tutorials, they said when creating a form based on a tablle of which the columns have NOT NULL constraint, it will automatically generate NOT NULL validation.
But when I extend the validation section (in both Component View and Tree View), I cannot see any vaildation there.
So I go a head and create some NOT NULL validations for all NOT NULL fields.
Guess what, when I test the form, I got duplicate error messages.
    I get these
         6 errors have occurred
Project Name must have some value. (Go to error)
Start Date must have some value. (Go to error)
Target End Date must have some value. (Go to error)
Please provide project name. (Go to error)
Please provide project start date. (Go to error)
Please provide target end date. (Go to error)
My validation has error message "Please provide project name" while the automatic one has "Project Name must have some value".
The issue is I cannot find where the automatic validation is.
What if I want to customise the error message rather than just "#Label# must have some value".
Do any of you have any ideas why ?
I guess I must have chosen something wrong during page generation.
It could be quite simple but I don't know where to find the place that turn on/off the automatic not null validation, or at least customize these automatic error messages.
I currenly develop the application using workspace admin account.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Ann

I found it. Turn out to be the Settings, choose No for Required Value.

  • How to set OSA appraisal template validity period ??

    Hi Guru,
I am now working on OSA appraisal. When i create a appraisal template in PHAP_CATALOG, i cant specify the validity period. In the end, the validity period always sets to start date as 01/01/1900 and end date as 31/12/9999. As a result, i cant specify that in which year, which appraisal template to be used because all the templates are having the same validity period. For example, i wanna create a appraisal template from 01/01/2008 to 31/12/2010. So,how can i set the validity period to the period i want?  Or is there anywhere can set the validity period ?
    Thanks

In the VA object,  Layout tab, make sure "do not display validity period" is not checked.  This should display the validity period columns, which the user's can enter.
If the column cannot be changed, then check the security authorization.
If the values are defaulted, make sure, you disable the BAdi. Also, make sure, in the processing tab,
click on the "further template behaviour" button. Make sure, there are no "default validity period" enhancement area's.

  • I have an iPad with IMAP email accounts set up but I can find no "inbox, drafts, trash" folders anywhere, either on my ipad or desktop Mac.  How can I set them up?  They do not show on my MacMail preferences either and I can find no way to add them.

I have an iPad with IMAP email accounts set up but can find no "inbox, drafts, trash" folders for each email account anywhere on my iPad or in Mac Mail.   How can I set them up? I can't find anyway to set them up anywhere.  Thanks

    Hello blu monkey,
I found some resources that I think might help with the visibility of your IMAP email folders on your iPad and Mac.
On your iPad, you may need to follow the steps in this article to make sure your folders are visible:
iOS: If IMAP Mail folders are not visible
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1393
On your Mac, I am not sure if you have the sidebar enabled, but you can enable it using the steps in the article below.  When this is showing, you should see your email account listed near the bottom with a triangle next to it.  When the triangle is pointing down, it should show your folders:
Mail (Mountain Lion): Show or hide the sidebar

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

I downloaded the iCloud control panel on my PC but can't sign in - message says "This apple ID is valid but not an iCloud account. I've tried the account set up several times but it keeps just spinning me in circles, asking me to sign in and then I get the same message again. This is getting frustrating and I really don't seem to be able to get help. I can't contact customer support because I have a PC and there is a serial number of an apple device required. Can anyone help please?

You can't setup (create) an iCloud account using a PC. You must use an Apple device, a Mac or an iPhone etc. Once you have created an account you can sign in from your PC.

  • After upgrade to OS6 iPad says my email address is not a valid one since it consists of 2 dashes "--" and letters. How can I set up my account now? Was never a problem before OS6.

As it is now i have to use my mail as a webmail since iOS6 has a crazy function to decide wheter my email address is a valid one or not pending on the letters it holds. Beside the "--" it also says that the Swedish letter "å" (an "a" with a small circle above) is not a valid one.

  • Manual email setting option not available

I have the Samsung Galaxy S4 and am trying to setup a time warner road runner email account.  I select the OTHER option and it does not give me any options to manually setup the SMTP or POP3 servers.  The screen asks for my email address and password.  The only other options are Show Password and a NEXT button.  I enter this information and the app informs me that the server is not reachable.   The MANUAL SETUP button is completely missing.  I have updated the phone to the latest OS.
    Any ideas???

    Ben,
Here is what I get when I attempt to add an additional email account to my device.  I tap the Email app and go to add account and the very first screen I get is this:
I have found that my twc email works much better as an imap account.  There are instructions online for setting it up this way.  Regardless of how you want to set it up, you have to choose the Manual Setup option after entering your credentials.  I have opted to use AquaMail as my mail app.  I have used many to find one I really like and it fits the bill perfectly.  You can also set up all of your gmail accounts in it and then you only have one app to take care of all of your mail.  AquaMail has a Pro version that was relatively inexpensive that I opted to purchase after trying it for a while.  You may want to try a third party app if you continue to have problems.
One other thing that you may want to try is to clear cache and data on your email app.  If you have any other accounts set up you will have to redo them, but it might help.

  • Icloud needs an Apple ID to sign in..BUT.it says: "This Apple ID is valid but is not an icloud account" What can i do? i do have apple id???

icloud needs an Apple ID to sign in..BUT.it says: "This Apple ID is valid but is not an icloud account" What can i do? i do have apple id???

I have the same problem and unfortunately the only way to get an iCloud ID is to set one up on an Apple device that uses the Apple OS opperating system.  If you don't own one, or can't qfford one, then you are simply shut out of using the iCloud.  Does it suck?  Yes.  Is there any solution other than buying an Apple device?  No.

  • Hi there I lost my password for my original iTunes account I can't recover it because the email address it is registered under is not longer valid How can I access my old account?

    Hi there.
I did a factory restore and then restored it with iCloud back-up. I have been using lots of Apple products and i have used three different email adresses. Almost all apps restored perfectly but everytime i try to play a song in the Music app, i asks me for a Apple-ID i had no idea i have used.
    Hence:
I lost my password for my original iTunes account
I can't recover it because the email address it is registered under is not longer valid
How can I access my old account?
Can't find a place to change the email address to my new one without the password which I no longer remember.
There is no way to just erase Apple-ID's on my device either.
What to do? Should i ju give up and start from scratch and delete 2 years of stuf?
    Cheers!

If you can remember the answers to the security questions when you set up that account - I think that you can reset the password without needing email authentication. You can try it here. Read it and see if it's possible. But if you can't remember the answers to the questions it will not work.

To use iCloud, you must first set it up with your Apple ID on a device with iOS 5 or a Mac with OS X Lion.

  • Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account

I've successfully upgraded three Macs and my iPhone to 10.7.2/Build 11C74 today, moved my MobileMe account to iCloud, and moved two of the Macs and the iPhone to iCloud.  However, my MacBook Air keeps giving me the error "Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account" when I attempt to move it to iCloud.  I've tried a test account on this Mac with the same results.
The Apple servers are confirming my Apple ID credentials, but won't allow me to set up iCloud on this MacBook Air.  Is anyone else experiencing this issue?  I'm hoping it's just a server validation issue this evening that will be resolved in the morning, but for now I'm stumped.

I am having the same issue. Set up on a macbook pro, iMac, and phone, and get this error on my iMac at home.  Still need to do my iPad. Also disabled my mobile me mail - said account was expired. Mobile Me in sys prefs says everythings been moved but won't let me log in to iCloud.  Just woke up hoping the servers would have cleared out but same issue. I use a different Apple ID for itunes but it doesn't work with that either. Hope someone has an answer for this as the home iMac is my primary storage for my other devices. Haven't even tried wifi sync yet because of all these errors!

  • When logging in to Icloud I get the message 'Apple ID' is valid but is not an Icloud Account.  I have changed passord but still get the same message.

I have just set up Icloud and backed up files to it. I have not been able to log in.  I get the message 'Apple ID is valid but is not an Icloud account.  I have the same User ID for Icloud and Apple but different passwords.  Neither combinations work.  I have reset passwords twice but get the same result.

You cannot set up an iCloud account on Windows - is that where you tried to do it? The error message you quote is what happens when, having an Apple ID, you attempt to use it on Windows to create an iCloud account. You can create an iCloud account on a Mac or an iOS device, then you can sign into it in the Windows Control Panel. None of this should have any effect in the iTunes Store (the forum for which is where you have posted).

  • I want to back up an IMAP account via POP3 in Thunderbird but it will not download old emails that are still on the server. How can I do this?

I wand to use Thunderbird to back up and purge old emails from an account via POP3. This account is accessed by other users using IMAP on their computers and phones.
I want to archive and purge old messages from the server using Thunderbird. But, it will not download messages that apparently are marked as read on the server via IMAP.

Pop mail accounts must be set up to 'leave messages on the server'.
    check this before using.
    * Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the mail account
    or
    * menu icon > Options > Account Settings > Server Settings for the mail account
select: 'leave messages on the server'
optional: select: 'for at most xx days' this will delete anything older than specified number of days select 'Until I delete them' when you delete an email it will be deleted off the server.
click on Ok to save settings.
Pop mail accounts only look at Inbox and download whatever has not been previously downloaded regardless of whether it has been read or not. They cannot access nor download from any other folder on the server.
If you wanted to download emails in other fodlers, you would have to move emails into the Inbox in order to download them and this may not be very practical in your situation.
What you can do is synchronize your IMAP folders to get a copy downloaded to your IMAP mail account.
Then go into 'offline' mode to stop any further synchronizing as synchronized folders do get updated.
MozBackup tool could now be used to backup the Profile as synchronising created mbox files which contain emails.
You can also do the following to get a copy outside of the IMAP mail account:
Create the same folders in 'Local Folders'.
Then right click on email and 'copy to' and select Local Folders and the folder you require.
Putting a copy in Local Folders means these emails are also on your computer and they are not influenced by anything you do in the IMAP folders.
You would need to backup emails in these folders.
