Manual Record Deletion vs. Archiving

Hi,
We have a good number of records that are no use to us and we'd like to remove them from our system.  We have been going back and forth on whether to archive them or delete them manually.  We are told to archive them all would take 3 months.  Does anyone know the downsides of manually deleting the records or anything other pros and cons of the two methods?
Thanks,
~ Chris

Archiving in MDM is totally different from Archiving records in other ECC system. But still you can create an archive file using a Mask. In this Mask you can put all the records which you want to delete from your repository. This the archive file will contain only those records which you wanted to delete. You can save this archive file for future references. Later on you can delete those unwanted records from your original repository.
The above is one way of achieving it, but by deleting you will also loose the history of those records from your repository. So, i would suggest you to create an additional Look up field. This look up field will contain values like "Active", "Deleted" and will act as flag to identify whether record is deleted or not. Later on you can assign "Deleted" value to this field for records which you want to delete.
This way you will be able to identify where record is active or deleted. In actual it will not delete the record and will preserve your master data history...

  • SPL record deletion and archival in GTS

    Hi,
    We are planning to delete and load new SPL master data. When we try to use the archiving object SPL_MD , it does not archive and delete all SPL masters. It only archives if the SPL master is marked for deletion. I know we can manually flag a sanction party master record for deleion using transaction /SAPSLL/SPL_MD02. But is there a transaction to flag them for deletion in Mass? Or is there a way to direcly archive and delete them without flagging for deletion?

    Satya

    Hi,
    Here is the answer I was given when asking the same question: Guess that will help you.
    If I understand the question correctly, you will have to archive the old SPL Master Data using the SPL_MD archiving object. This archiving object will allow you to create an archive of your current SPL Master Data (e.g. flat file) and then allow you to delete all data from the /SAPSLL/TSPL, /SAPSLL/TSPLA and /SAPSLL/TSPLN tables -- these tables are part of the SPL_MD archiving object. Once you have archived and deleted the prior SPL Master Data, you ought to be able to load the new SPL Master Data without any problems.
    This method of course has pitfalls. If you're upgrading your SPL Master Data from the non-extended XML data to the extended XML data of the SPL entities, your audit trails will lose some details (e.g. which SPL entity matched on a specific business partner). Another pitfall is the amount of time it takes to rescreen all of the business partners against the new SPL Master Data. You may also encounter a large amount of blocked business partners as a result. My advice is to definitely test in a non-production environment.
    Cheers

  • Count total number of record of table with deletion from archiving object

    Does anyone know is there any SAP standard program to count the total number of record of the table with deletion from Archiving Object and display in repprt?

    Not sure of the question. Are you looking to get the sql "select count(*) from table" from using the TopLink expression framework or are you getting that SQL already and want something else?
    If you are looking just to get the count from a table/class, you can use a ReportQuery:
    ReportQuery rquery = new ReportQuery(ClassToQueryOn.class);
    rquery.addCount(); //equivalent to count(*);
    session.executeQuery(rquery);
    You can use a report query to return data instead of objects, and use selection criteria just like a normal read query.

  • Manual Recording Errors & Bugs

    Last night.  FOX (508)  Daytona 500 NASCAR Race.
    "House" as a series was scheduled to record.
    All attempts to create a manual recording for any timeframe on CH 508 was met with errors, from, one telling me there was a recording already scheduled for that channel (although there was only one, and it was from 8-to-9 PM), another telling me the start time had already passed (the time was 8:02, and the manual start time was 8:59.
    At times, the scheduled HOUSE did not show up on the DVR->View Schedule>, yet at all times the red record indicator showed up on the GUIDE.
    Bottom line - once I started trying, I got only errors UNTIL I STOPPED, then DELETED the House recording.  I ended up having to use the guide and press RECORD on each guide listing until midnight.  (and then the Simpson's time slot, and my recordings, ended 15 laps before the finish!!!!!!!!!)

  • Manual clean up of Archived Log

    I'm a newbie in administration.
    While the system has a daily script to delete the archived logs files (of older than 7 days) after the daily backup has been performed, there will be still records left in data dictionary (e.g. V$ARCHIVED_LOG). Am I correct? Administrator can't delete records in those data dictionaries, isn't it?
    Therefore, the RMAN can be used to "DELETE OBSOLETE" all these things regularly if the retention policy is correctly configured. Is that true?
    Thank you!

    Since you are not following any strategy to use RMAN. To start with RMAN first thing you can do is to crosscheck all archivlog files if they actually exist on OS file system or not as they being deleted on OS level you have to delete them from data dictionary as well. To do that issue the following set of commands:
    RMAN>crosscheck archivelog all;
    RMAN>delete expired;
    It is advised to take the backup of these files from RMAN.
    RMAN>backup archivelog all;
    Once you backup your archivelog files and setting the retention policy appropriately for backup files and archivelog files, you can remove files from OS and data diction using RMAN only
    RMAN>delete obsolete;
    or else you can remove it from at the time of backup.
    RMAN>backup archivelog all delete input all;
    Thanks.

  • Deleting ? Archive Material Master

    Hi,
    Please help me how to delete or Archieve Material Master?
    how to use Tx SARA and MM71?
    Please Urgent.
    Thanks
    Prasad

    hi
    Archiving the Material Master
    Transaction SARA contains all the SAP archiving objects for all the SAP R/3 applications modules.  All the SAP archive functions are shown in SARA.  Choose the corresponding SAP archive object, hit enter and the archive administration menu will be shown.  Provided here will be an example on how to archive the SAP Material Master.
    Archive a Material Master Record
    When a material is no longer required in a company or plant, you can archive and delete the material master record.
    You have to Flag the material master record for deletion. This is known as logical deletion.
    Before a material master record can be archived and deleted, other objects (such as purchasing documents) that refer to this material must themselves be archived. You can see which objects these are and the dependencies between them in the network graphic.
    If a material master record cannot be archived and deleted at a given organizational level, the reason is given in the log (for example, a purchase order exists for the material). The log also contains technical data such as the number of material master records read and the number deleted.
    Some of the archive error log message :-
    Costing data exists
    Use in routing
    Use in sales and distribution
    Use in bill of material
    Delivery exists
    Costing data exists
    Info record exists
    Purchase order exists
    The Archiving steps :-
    Archiving object MM_MATNR for archiving material master records.
    You can display the archived data, but not reload it.
    To archive the material master, first goto transaction MM71.
    Type in a variant name and click Maintain.  (Tick the Test Mode for archive simulation).
    Save the variant.
    Maintain the Start date and Spool parameters and click execute.
    Click Goto Job Overview to check the archive status.
    To do a permanent delete, goto transaction SARA and click Delete button.
    Maintain the Archive Selection, Start date and Spool parameters.
    Click Test Session for testing or click execute to start the deletion program.
    Click Goto Job Overview to check the delete status.
    Now, if you goto MM02/MM03, you will not be able to find the record in the material master.
    Reward points if helpful
    Thanks and regards

  • Manually recorded series don't "get" daylight savings

    I have a manual series for Sunday nights--The Simpsons and Family Guy seem to do a poor job of flagging "new" versus "repeat" in the schedule and a standard series recording will get me all of the daily reruns on a bunch of channels. So, I set a manual recording for each show. Every spring and fall, the DVR seems to screw it up--I have to delete the series and enter them again.
    For example, a week ago, I had a manual recording from 8-8:30 and another for 9-9:30. Those morphed into 9-9:30 and 10-10:30. Obviously, I can keep one (since it basically switched the show it is taping) but I'd think that the record command would keep up with the time change.
    Thanks!

  • Another DNS record deletion question

    I am fairly new to the environment, as i switched my consulting job to an internal job.
    The environment was a flat file dns, with one primary DNS server and multiple secondary servers. I move away from the flat file DNS (single master model), to an active directory integrated DNS with multiple DNS zones. So I moved the multiple DNS domains
    away from the master zone to their own dedicated DNS zones on the domain controllers within their domain.
    The Colleagues already warned me that DNS records tend to mysteriously disappear from time to time, but could not find any proof. I checked the usual suspects (scavenging), but that was disabled. 3 weeks back, I splitted the single DNS zone, in multiple
    DNS zones, where the splitted DNS is pointing to their own dedicated domain controllers. I used following procedure to do it:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askpfeplat/archive/2013/12/02/how-to-split-and-migrate-child-domain-dns-records-to-a-dedicated-dns-zone.aspx
    Since the migration we had several encounters of DNS records which were deleted, some were explainable (wrong ILO settings), but some were not. As i could not explain the deletions, i enabled auditing on DNS to see who or what is responsible for deleting
    those objects. This morning i was notified that again a records went missing, so I went to inspect the audit logs. To my surprise I saw that my admin account was logged with the record was deleted. Now I did not delete any records, have no scripts running
    that modify DNS in anyway, and i seriously doubt that my admin account has been compromised. Is there anyone who could explain why records (A records of members servers) are being deleted, although scavenging is disabled?
    I have checked the DNS suffix, and verified that it is not set. In which the client uses the active directory domain to which it is a member.
    Answers provided are coming from personal experience, and come with no warranty of success. I as everybody else do make mistakes.

    Hi,
    Because the Active Directory integrated DNS replication between all the DNS server, one of the DNS server delete the record others will delete the record too, so Mahdi’s suggestion
    is better to know what happen when the DNS records deleted.

  • Can we delete the archived RS tables data in unix path?

    Hi Experts
    As you all know that when we perform RS table archiving we setup a Logical file path 'ARCHIVE_GLOBAL_PATH' pointing to the physical path '/usr/sap/<SYSID>/SYS/global/<FILENAME>' in unix system.
    Here we have our RS table data in the unix path and this logical path will make sure that there are no problems with requests status.
    Now our unix path has grown in size hence we would like to delete some archived data from this path. Could you pls confirm if we delete the data from this unix path will there be any problems with the requests status?
    Simply can we delete the RS table archived data from the unix file path??
    Thanks!!

    Hi All
    Any idea about this would be appreciated.
    Thanks!!

  • How to record the records deleted in a table

    Hi Experts
    I want to run a report as a batch which should deleted the records
    which are sysdate - 60 and The report should log the number of records deleted
    from each table at End Of Run.
    Criteria for selecting records to be deleted are as follows:
    1.     ZINT_DATA
    u2022     ZINT_DATA.CREATED_ON <= (Today u2013 60 Days)
                   and ZINT_DATA.STATUS = u2018OKu2019
    So I want to create a table for log history recorded as
    Delete Date         Log description
    01.01.2008        1500 rows deleted
    30.03.2008        2000 rows deleted.
    30.04.2008        300  rows deleted.
    Eg The table are ZINT_DATA.
    The report starts like this
    REPORT z_eslp_command.
    DATA:
      fs_zint_data TYPE zint_data.
    DATA:
      t_zint_data TYPE
              TABLE OF
                      ZINT_DATA.
    START-OF-SELECTION.
    SELECT *
       FROM ZINT_DATA
       INTO TABLE t_ZINT_DATA PACKAGE SIZE 10000.
    ENDSELECT.
    LOOP AT t_zint_data INTO fs_zint_data.
    INSERT INTO ZINT_DATA_DEL
          VALUES fs_zint_data.
    select count(*) from zint_data_del.
    ENDLOOP.
    IF sy-subrc EQ 0.
      WRITE:
        'DATA INSERTED FROM ZINT_DATA into ZINT_DATA_DEL'.
    ENDIF.
    But Instead of creating another table , I want only log to be recorded as described.
    Thanks

    HOW TO DELETE THE ARCHIVE LOGS ON THE STANDBY
    I have set the RMAN CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY; on my physical standby server.
    My archivelog files are not deleted on standby.
    I have set the CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default on the Primary server.
    I've checked the archivelogs with the FRA and they are not beign deleted on the STANDBY. Do I have to do something for the configuation to take effect? Like run a RMAN backup?
    I've done a lot ofresearch and i'm getting mixed answers. Please help. Thanks in advanced.

    Setting the Policy will not delete the Archive logs on the Standby. ( I found a thread where the Data Guard product manager says "The deletion policy on both sides will do what you want" ). However I still
    like to clean them off with RMAN.
    I would use RMAN to delete them so that it can use that Policy are you are protected in case of Gap, transport issue etc.
    There are many ways to do this. You can simply run RMAN and have it clean out the Archive.
    Example :
    #!/bin/bash
    # Name: db_rman_arch_standby.sh
    # Purpose: Database rman backup
    # Usage : db_rman_arch_standby <DBNAME>
    if [ "$1" ]
    then DBNAME=$1
    else
    echo "basename $0 : Syntax error : use . db_rman_full <DBNAME> "
    exit 1
    fi
    . /u01/app/oracle/dba_tool/env/${DBNAME}.env
    echo ${DBNAME}
    MAILHEADER="Archive_cleanup_on_STANDBY_${DBNAME}"
    echo "Starting RMAN..."
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target / catalog <user>/<password>@<catalog> << EOF
    delete noprompt ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE-8';
    exit
    EOF
    echo `date`
    echo
    echo 'End of archive cleanup on STANDBY'
    mailx -s ${MAILHEADER} $MAILTO < /tmp/rmandbarchstandby.out
    # End of ScriptThis uses ( calls an ENV) so the crontab has an environment.
    Example ( STANDBY.env )
    ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
    ULIMIT=unlimited
    ORACLE_SID=STANDBY
    ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/11.2.0.2
    ORA_NLS33=$ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/lib
    LIBPATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/lib
    TNS_ADMIN=$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
    PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$ORACLE_BASE/dba_tool/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/etc:/usr/sbin:/usr/ucb:$HOME/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/sbin:/usr/lbin:/GNU/bin/make:/u01/app/oracle/dba_tool/bin:/home/oracle/utils/SCRIPTS:/usr/local/bin:.
    #export TERM=linux=80x25 wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong
    export TERM=vt100
    export ORACLE_BASE ORACLE_SID ORACLE_TERM ULIMIT
    export ORACLE_HOME
    export LIBPATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH ORA_NLS33
    export TNS_ADMIN
    export PATH
    export MAILTO=?? your email hereNote use the env command in Unix to get you settings.
    There are probably ten other/better ways to do this, but this works.
    other options ( you decide )
    Configure RMAN to purge archivelogs after applied on standby [ID 728053.1]

    Maintenance Of Archivelogs On Standby Databases [ID 464668.1]
    Tip I don't care myself but in some of the other forums people seem to mind if you use all caps in the subject. They say it shouting. My take is if somebody is shouting at me I'm probably going to just move away.

  • Can't Get Manual Recording To Work

    I have been unable to get manual recording to work and thought this was something to do with having dual monitors.  I have now disabled my second monitor, and it is still not working for me. It's possible that I have done something wrong or have misunderstood what manual recording is.
    To that end I have made a 3 minute video showing you the steps I took while attempting a manual recording of just three print screens.   Please could someone take a look ta the video and tell me if what you see is expected behaviour.  Thank you.
    manual-recording.mp4 - Google Drive

    Thank you for taking a look at the video Rick.  You can probably tell this problem is driving me mad.
    I did as you suggested but it made no difference to the outcome.  So next I uninstalled Captivate, and re-installed with only one monitor active, just in case that mattered.  I then kept it at one monitor but even with only one monitor videos appear in my manual captures.
    So next I re-enabled my second monitor and ran the test again. On monitor 1, video is included no matter what, and on monitor 2 it isn't.  I have filed a bug report with Adobe but so far the response has been to try running it as administrator and also to check the error logs.  I checked those and there is nothing but informationals in there.
    I also ran the entire test when running as an admin, and the results were the same.

  • Oracle forms standard/default menu - Record Delete option

    Hi ,
    Oracle forms provides a standard menu with the below options.
    Action , Query , Block , Record , Help etc.
    Under each of these Menu options there are sub options.
    Eg: Under Record we have Previous , Next , Insert , Delete etc.
    Can someone please tell me how to control this menu item options for different forms.
    Eg: for 1 form i want to allow the Record - Delete option but for another form i dont want to give this option.
    How to do this ??
    Please help....
    I tried to search for the solution but couldnt get the right answer. Hope someone will help me out here.
    Regards,
    SRT

    Hello,
    The Oracle Forms documentation states:
    The Default menu is built-in to every form, and is not a separate menu module.
    You cannot change the structure of the Default menu or edit the menu items it
    displays.
    If your application requires
    unique menu functions, you must create a custom menu module and attach it to
    your form.
    If the internal default menu almost meets your needs, you can attach the
    "menudef.mmb" approximation of the default menu to the form. You can then
    rename and edit this menu.
    You can download the demo version for 10g R2 and menudefs_10g.mmb is included with the demos.
    http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/demos/Forms_Demos_10gr2.zip
    You will get menudef_10g.mmb and menudefs_10g.mmb.
    If needed check metalink note:
    Differences between menudef.mmb and menudefs.mmb menu files. [ID 1081136.1]
    Kind regards,
    Alex
