Manual Updating of OVI Maps

Downloading maps can take a considerable length of time.  Then later, when "New Maps Available" shows, we are told that clicking on the Download Now button will cause all current maps will be deleted and new ones to be installed.  Is this really the case or is it just a few obsolete maps that are deleted and replaced?
It would certainly help if the OVI maps list could flag which maps have been updated.   It could then be a case of simply deleting an old file from the phone and then downloading just the new one before visiting a country. That could save a lot of time.
For example, I have no idea which maps have been updated in the Europe set. All I need is the latest map for the country that I will be visiting next week.  So, if I just delete and replace that one country it should be up to date.  That's a few MB rather than 2.4GB.  Is this a valid way to proceed or am I missing something?

Unfortunally I would recommend a factory reset of the device
You cant uninstall Ovi Maps 3.06, and if you get a system error its usually the software that isnt installed properly somehow.
If you dont already got it, download and install Nokia Ovi Suite from www.nokia.com/ovisuite
Start Ovi Suite and follow the guide to connect your phone.
Do a Backup of your phones content via Tools -> Backup (in Ovi Suite)(Be aware that e-mail accounts and programs might not be in the backup)
    Disconnect phone from computer
On the phone press Call, then typ *#7370#
Phone will restart.(This will remove your personal content from Phone memory and Mass memory)
Set time and Date (and timezone) correctly on the phone.
    Connect phone to Ovi Suite.
In Ovi Suite choose Tools -> Restore.
Restore your backup (I would advice you to not restore 'settings')
Try and download latest Ovi Maps via Ovi Store in phone.

  • Cannot update c5 ovi maps to version 3.4

I can see the update on the C5. It shows 8102 kB. When I select it and choose start update (translated from finnish UI) the update runs, but the result is a failed update. The phone gives me an option to view the update history, where I can see an entry of failed updated, but no further info. There's 33 MB of free internal memory and the firmware version was earlier updated to 032.010. What could I try next?

Nokia does not care. Trying to upgrade after those "conversations" blog posts advertising 3.04 ended up killing Maps entirely on the C5.
My detailed post on MAY 24: /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Maps-3-04-upgrade-breaks-Maps-on-C5-00/m-p/691170
    Nokia did not care.
A month later, Nokia posted a "sticky" in the maps forum about the Ovi Maps calamity, completely ignoring the C5 problem. My post on June 30: /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Re-Ovi-Maps-Installation-Troubleshooting/m-p/714834
Now, after upgrading to the latest firmware, I tried to install again. But now it says I'm out of memory on the C5. You know what?

  • Ovi map update failure

    Hi,
I connected my X6 to OVI suite on my PC and it informed that there were updates.
So I went to updates and selected the optional updates in which it showed that there is an update of OVI maps. Since I was not interested in all other optional updates i selected this one and started the update. After downloading the update, the update started and after a few minutes I got an error message: "Update failed: an internal error occurred"
My OVI maps version is 3.04 and firmware version of X6 is 32.0.002. I know that my OVI suite is not the latest version but that cannot be the problem.
I can update maps without problems, also delete and add are no problem, but changing from OVI maps 3.04 to 3.06 always fails (have tried is several times, also disconnecting the phone, resetting it etc...).
    Why does the update fails????
    Regards,
    Rene

    @Moma13
Perhaps posting which device with what firmware version you have run into issues with would be helpful here. Resetting device to "Out of box" state and/or re-installing exisiting device software using Tools > Software updates > Re-install within Nokia Suite upon PC will resolve most issues.
Nokia Maps v3.06 & later use mapping 0.2.46.103 whereas Ovi Maps v3.01, 3.03 & 3.04 use 0.1.28.107 so old set of mapping would have to be replaced anyway as part of update.
Sometimes installing Nokia Maps v3.06 provided there is enough free phone memory (>20MB) can entail removal of more files as in this post:http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Ovi-Maps-v3-06-File-Not-Found-Installation-E...

  • Ovi Maps 3.6.688 - what's new in this version?

Hi, since today my C6-01 Ovi Store is showing an update for Ovi Maps: 3.6.688.
Does anybody know what's new in this release? I would like to know before I update my phone.
    Cheers!

Sure you got the right number / phone setting in ovi store?
Because 688 ist the ending of
    ovi_maps_installer_3_06_11wk10_b01_s60_5_0_196688.sis
which is available from ovi store for X6 since april/march and has Version 3.06(637).
    Otherwise there is
    ovi_maps_inst_3_06_11wk23_b05_tb9_2_PS2_195660.sis
for C6-01 which is 12 weeks younger but I don't know the Version because it won't work on my 5800XM.

  • How to re-install ovi map in C7

Hi, I have just bought me a C7 nokia phone. I tried to update the voice map application from ovi store and then I can not see the maps on the phone. When I connect C7 to my PC and check the map by Nokia Ovi Suite, it said that the map is either corrupted or not supported by the device.
How can I re-install or recover my pre-installed ovi map in C7?

  • E5-00: Ovi Maps shuts down immediately after start...

Recently, my Ovi Maps got some sort of error/problem, which I dont understand, nor dont know what to do about it.
When i open Ovi Maps, it automatically shuts down after a few seconds.
I tried to update to the newest version, when went succesfully. However, the same error remains, it still kepss shutting automatically.
Does any know what this is causing, and/or how it can be solved?

    @thamaestro
If you update from OVI Maps v3.04 to v3.06 old map data from 00.01.25.114 has to be deleted and new data from 00.02.42.122 downloaded. Are you saying that you watched new regional map data being downloaded and installed as this takes quite a while?
If you haven't downloaded new map data, would suggest that you delete E:\cities & .qf file, re-start OVI Maps application upon device to re-initialise and re-create necessary folder structure.

  • Ovi Maps 3.1 ?

I just used the SW update function on my N97 and it said there was an update for Ovi Maps to 3.1. However, after the installation the version number shows to be 3.01 and the Software update is still offering me an update to 3.1.
Anyone with the same issue? Is this an actual 3.1 update or just 3.01? I don't want to continue updating and loading my maps all the time

  • N97 and the new OVI MAPS

N97 sim free (on Orange), version 2.0 software. Updated to OVI maps, the free ones from this site. Installed ok.
When I open the app, it opens fine, then closes by itself after about 10 seconds!
    Any ideas?
I have deleted and re-installed the software, I deleted the CIties file and QF files.
    I am stumped!

Nokia Map Loader is a programme you can download to your computer, then connect phone to computer with usb, you can then download and install all the maps you need to your phone ( the actual maps not the app, this saves your phone having to download them real time, so navigation is quicker and data usage reduced)
And yes, I dowloaded and used the N97 mini version of maps before the N97 (classic) version was available.

(Could it be that this automatically loads software for the S60 handset?).
On first using OVI Suite you do have to accept any prompts to accept synchronisation software onto device.
Irrespective of whether you can't get OVI Suite or Nokia Maploader to work you can always download Europe.zip using links in this post by ovikovi here and then decompress:

That said it is a lot easier to overwrite E:\Cities\diskcache folders  0 - 9 and a - f using Windows PC as a bit more convoluted if using Mac although requires use of "Terminal" to merge folders.
