Mapping a windows network folder.. Almost there! Just one step...

Hi, everyone! I have written an applescript to automatically mount a windows network folder on my Mac right after startup. Only, I just made as far as mounting the computer and I still have to choose the right folder to mount. I just miss one final step to do it fully automated.
This is what I have for now:
tell application "Finder"
try
mount volume "smb://MICSGROUP;FRONTIER:[email protected]"
end try
end tell
But then I still have to choose if I want the windows D drive or E drive or C drive, or any shared folder on that drive...
What should I add in this script to automatically mount the right folder on a D drive? For example the folder "D/pictures" I tried a lot of combinations, but none thusfar work..
Any ideas?
Thank you!
G5 dual 2.0   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi,
try this :
mount volume "smb://MICSGROUP;FRONTIER:[email protected]/pictures"
you may use the dns name of the server instead of its IP

Didier.

  • Printing - Windows Network Printer - ALMOST THERE!!!!

    Ok,
At work I connect my powerbook (OS X 10.4.5) to the local-area network (all other computers are Windows based). I have set up my computer to access the shared Windows printer on the server (Windows) computer. My computer accesses the shared printer with no errors and data is sent to the shared printer. The problem is that numerous numerous blank pages as well as pages with some "interesting" coding on them print out, but not what I had sent to the printer to be printed.
So there is definately some kind of communication error occuring. I have tried setting my printer settings to both Generic PostScript Printer and also HPLaserJet 2100, which is what the printer actually is, but neither method works. I also got on HP's web site and downloaded the most up to date driver and ran the install on my computer with the same results.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank - Gavin

It may work better with a third-party driver such as the HPIJS drivers or the Gimp-Print drivers, but this is not the case with all printers.

  • Are there two versions of ipod (like US version, and EU version) or is there just one worldwide?

Are there two versions of ipod (like US version, and EU version) or is there just one worldwide?
I want to buy an ipod touch 5 from ebay (i'm from croatia) and i'm woried is there just one model that is worldwide or are there a few models ( like US and EU)?????

Some features like FaceTime (prohibited in some middle eastern countries, lower volume limit is EU countries) is controlled by a unique identifier on the iPod based on where the iPod was officially sold, I would avoid getting one officially sold in a middle eastern country. A non-EU one would also be better too

  • How do I scan & save a PDF in just ONE step?

How do I scan & save a PDF in just ONE step? I can easily scan a document to an OCR'd PDF, but it does not seem to save it until I manually select "save". Seems there should be a way to set up scans to a particular folder destination, with a naming convention & auto numbering, such as YYYYmmDD-0001, YYYYmmDD-0002, etc. I've looked thru the Create>PDF form scanner>configure presets, and no such item seems to exist. There IS a "add to existing document", but that's not what I want to do. I just want to select "scan", and have it create an OCR'd PDF file in a folder.

    Hi,
You can achieve this via Action wizard. Auto Numbering is not possible however you can combine Scan and Save As in one action.
    Click Tool>Action Wizard
    Create New Action
See screenshot and set the options that i have highlighted in blue
Let me know if that helps.

but the problem is that, I am searching for a FM with which, A restricted user defined folder from windows network is the place where the file supposed to be
sent..coz. the folder is restricted to a single user.
friends, if you could throw some light and share your experty would be highly

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi!
    Check out this:
    Class: CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES
    Method: GET_SAPGUI_DIRECTORY
It will return a dir like this: C:DocumentsXYSAPWorkdir
Just cut the SAPWorkdir and you are in the user's dir.
You can check out other methods also, if this one does not fit your needs. Use SE24 transaction for it.

  • Any expert OSX on Windows network people out there?

I'm in desperate need of help. My company is all Windows and I have the only mac (yeah, i'm the marketing/design guy). I'm running OSX, latest-greatest with all of the updates on a Windows network. IT just upgrader their servers and eversince then I have had all kinds of problems. The network is super slow on the Mac but the PC in my office is not affected that much. I sometimes lose network conection on the Mac all together and have to manually GO get the servers again. On big pain is that I can send email (using Mac Mail) inside the company but I can't send anything outside. I have to use webmail for that.
Oddly, the PC was also affected. Some network speed was restored using manual IPs but get this... Photoshop will not save to the server from the PC. It does fine on the Mac apart from the ultra slow server response but on the PC I have to save files to the local HD then move them to the server manualy.
My IT network guy is no help. He is threatening to pull my mac and his only solution for the PC was to wipe it clean and re-install everything. He just took the PC today so I don't know if it is going to work or not (I have my doubts) and it's going to cause me productivity problems.
I haven't been able to find anything on Apple's or Microsoft's site that seems related. (SHAME on Apple for having les info on mac intigration to Windows networks than Microsoft BTW)
    Here's the network set up:
OS > Windows Server 2003 Enterprise with Service Pack 1 (Completely Patched with all updates as of 12-06-06)
Mail > Exchange 2003 Enterprise with Service Pack 2
All servers have Duel 3.2 GHz Intel Xeon Processors
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Mike!
Up front I don't think you'll resolve all your answers without a Mac/Windows consultant. You've got too many variables in the mix for someone to be able to comprehensively answer all your questions plus you're possibly going to need some assistance from your IT guys because some things may be out of your control. A consultant would be able to speak Tech-ese for you.
With that said, here are some ideas...
    1. For network speed issues, ask your IT guys if your network switch port has been forced to a particular speed/duplex or if it is set to Auto. Macs hate to be forced. You want Auto.
    2. I suggest using Microsoft Entourage 2004 over Apple's Mail application. Mail is using IMAP and SMTP to connect to your Exchange server. Entourage uses WebDAV, which allows you to take advantage of calendaring and public folders too. You've got webmail access, which means Entourage should work for you. Enterprise licensing for Exchange includes Entourage. Or if you have Office for Mac then Entourage is included.
    3. I suggest not using Mac OS X's built-in SMB client. It's clunky and doesn't play well with Windows servers for regular use. Invest in Dave or ADMitMac from http://www.thursby.com. It may very well help you with multiple network issues. A trial version is available for you to evaluate it first.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • What is/are the diagram just one step before coding?

My question above is quite clear. I would like to know what is/are the diagram (in UML) one step before coding?
The sequence diagram for coding, does it need to include details? i mean detail here is implementation detal. For example, if my GUI is using swing JTree, do i need to draw the method called from JTree model and JTree itself (all those standard method between them)?

My take on it is this.
UML is a language for communication and clarification of ideas (a few chapters of the UML User Guide by Booch, et al should convince you of that).
All too often I see the language used at too great a level of ceremony, probably owing to the option to export and import source into the model. As a result, many people seem to think that every detail must be modelled in UML prior to export.
My approach, which may not be right for you, is to clarify my approach with UML, such that it can be communicated properly to others. Then export a code framework from the existing model (not just one diagram). Then implement the methods, and add the trivial fields, methods and classes that support the design inherent in the model.
My key check here is to balance quality versus speed. UML should enable the process of software development, and not be another barrier to it.

  • [SOLVED] Almost there just need a global progress bar

    Heya,
There's no man page for bar so I have looked at the code a bit. I am trying to have a progress bar to copy a folder with many files including symbolic links (unfortunately pycp does not support them yet). With the -s parameter, I can specify the approximate size of what I am copying but it works only if it is a single file.
I have also tried pv, pipemeter, orphan advcp, ecp, scp and I am now desperate.
Would someone be kind enough to help me ?

Also, if you use DW CS5 click on Live Code and Live View. Then when clicking on the menu items in Live View, watch the changes in classes that occur. This mifgt give you a clue of what to do.

  • OSX 10.4.11/pc network.  Almost there!

    Hello everybody!
A couple of days ago, I bought a Dell i5 750gb 6gb RAM for cheeeaaap. I was given the chance to do this in order to satisfy me because a electronics store big goof up with a previous order debauchal.  I also have an old iMac 10.4.11 G4.  I want to transfer a lot of things onto the pc in order to clean out my iMac and try to speed it up.  It's old but I still like my iMac a lot.  I succeeded in networking the two computers partially.  I'm able to see ONLY the contents in my iMacs home folder but I want to access the contents of the external firewire hard drive which is attached to the iMac.  I can't figure out how to do that.  I'm close but not getting it.  The external hard drive is 250gb and I want to get a lot of movies and music transferred from it to the new Dell pc as well as the stuff I've been able to get off the iMac.  Of course the Dell has no firewire port and the external HD only has firewire.
If I had the money, I would have bought a Mac Air, but money's tight and I needed a faster computer so I'll do pc for now.  I couldn't pass up the deal on the Dell.
So, how can I configure the network connection in order to access not only the the files I can access from my poor old iMac now, but also access the attached external HD's contents as well.
    Thanks everyone.

Thanks BDAqua.  I've tried out sharepoints but still haven't succesfully been able to see my external HD from my pc via my iMac... phewww!
Gotta go to work but I'll try again later.
If anyone has any other methods, I'd be glad to look into those too just in case I can't get sharepoints to work for me.

  • Evevy song i have is duplicated, i try to delete the old one, but if i do, the new one dissapears also, i saw at the explorer window and every song is just one file

My library is duplicated, i did what the support suggest but if i delete the old song the new one also dissapears, i reviewed the windows file and only appears one file, i try to find an answer but do not have yet any.

I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background.

  • Repeat information in a form - is there a one step process?

I have a form where the last name would need to be entered about 6 times by the person filling it out.  Is there any easy way of asking for that information once and having it populate all the areas that I need filled in or would the user just have to enter that several time??

Yes, just give the fields the same name and they will automatically have the same value.

  • Application Crash From Networked Folder

A while back, it seems about the time I downloaded the QuickTime 7.6 update, I started having applications crash while in the Place, Open & Save windows. As they open I find myself in a certain folder. Usually, if I want to move up the folder hierarchy I click the tab at the top, which drops down the path to the current folder. I could then pick another point on that path.
However, the second I click on the tab the application crashes. The funny thing is that it only happens if I am clicking it while in a networked folder, not a local one.
I can click the volume icon on the side bar and then move down from there, but this gets very tedious, as all of our customer files are on a networked volume. I am also unable to use the left arrow key to move up; I can move down and back up, but only as far up as the starting folder. Curiously, I can hold the command key and the left arrow, but it usually jumps multiple steps up the path; that's often better than nothing.
I have already tried fixes I found having to do with deleting preferences and/or control panels associated with StuffIt, and also QuickTime, and other fixes. No luck. I'm starting to lose track of everything I have tried.
I would really like to avoid a system reinstall. That may not be worth it to me.
    Specs:
    20" iMac G5 Intel; X10.4.11; Networked over wired Ethernet to a 500GB firewire external HD via a 17" iMac G4; X10.4.11

I have not use the Migration Assistant. I had been using the 20" Intel iMac fine for a year or two when this started happening.
The G4 is just used to serve the files from the 500GB. The 20" is used like a work station. We actually have 2; the other one doesn't have this problem. The G4 doesn't have the problem either.

  • Laser jet pro won't scan to network folder

I have just setup a Laserjet Pro 200 (MFP M276nw) and have it successfully printing from an iMac running Mavericks OS. I am also able to scan using the HP scanning utility. All of this is connected via my wireless network.
However, no matter what I try I am unable to scan directly into a network folder. I have setup file sharing and ensured it is enabled for SMB sharing. I have ensured that the computer account on the shared folder I have created has full read/write access. I have created the network folder via the printer' ews as per the HP instructions (the path being \\<my mac's IP address>\public) and made sure username and password are set correctly. When I test the network folder I get an "Unable to connect to network folder" message.
I have disabled the Mac's firewall and have ensured that the printer software and firmware are the most recent versions available (they weren't but I updated them). I have deleted the shares, disabled file sharing, rebooted and then re-enabled file sharing, re-created the shares and set them up again in the ews but still it doesn't work. I can ping the printer successfully from the Mac and as stated earlier, can print and scan using the HP scan utility.
I have rebooted the printer and also the router.
    Please help!

    Hi Aye_curumba,
I understand you can print and scan, but you are unable to scan to the network folder on the Mac. I can help you with this. It it is usually a issue with the path to the network folder.
Here are the steps below for setting up the network folder if you would like to try it.
You might have to contact Apple to get the registered user and password name.
I would ask them to help setup the network folder also.
    1. Create a new folder on your computer.
    2. Right click (CTRL+Left click if using the Mac keyboard) it and then select Get Info.
    3. Unlock the screen, set the everyones term as Read & Write, located under Sharing & Permissions..
    4. Enter System Preferences > Sharing and then select File Sharing from the left bar.
    5. Click the Options button, mark the Share files and folders using SMB (Windows) and click Done.
    6. Under Shared Folders, click the Plus sign and select the configured folder.
    7. Make sure that "Everyone" permissions are set to Read & Write under the Users list as well.
    8. You will see the IP Address listed at the top of that screen, take a note to configure it from the EWS page.
You should use the following path template:
    //IP-ADRESS/Shared-Folder-Name
Make sure to include your username and password while setting the network folder scan.
I have provided a document for the setup for scanning to a network folder.
How to Scan: From the Control Panel (Including Scan to Email, to a PDF, and to a Network Folder).
Select Scan to a network folder.
Let me know how you make out.
    Have a great day!
    Thank You.

  • Setting up a Network folder so that I can scan from my HP 8600 printer

The HP instructions show the likely address for a windows Network folder but say go to the operating system instructions for a Mac.  There is nothing on the HP site that gives me a clue as to the folder address. I cannot find a way to get an address for a folder.  I created a folder titled " HP Scan " on my Mac Desktop and turned on sharing.  I have tried several possible addresses but nothing works.  I am connected to a small network via a new Apple Airport Extreme.  There are only three things on the network, my Macbook Air, a smart TV and the HP 8600 printer.
    Any help appreciated.

You should be able to use the OpenVPN Connect app running on your iPad to connect your iPad to the VPN directly. It is an official OpenVPN client for iOS devices.
In what way is it "not compatible"? Have you tried it? Tunnelblick is an OpenVPN client, so your school's VPN is using the OpenVPN protocol. That means any OpenVPN client should be able to access it. (It is possible, but unlikely, that your school uses encryption that is not available on the iPad, but that would be very unusual.)
Otherwise, a remote control app on your iPad would let you control your Mac at home. "Back to My Mac", for example, would allow you to control your Mac remotely. The tricky part of this is that usually a VPN is set up to send all Internet traffic via the VPN server, and I'm not sure how that would work with "Back to My Mac".
