Maps on N95

Hi,
Is maps available on N95 ? Nokia Maps 1.0 pre-launch link in http://mobile.nokia.com does not show N95. Can I select any other model and download ? Will it work if I install it in N95 ?
Thanks

Hi dennishr
Presumably this is related to extended characters needing Unicode, a 16-bit (2 bytes) character set.
I would suggest that you bring this issue to Nokia's attention using "Contact us" at top right of your screen. The more complaints are made the more likely that this issue will be addressed in future software revisions

  • Special characters issue with Nokia Maps on N95

    Hi there,
when using Navigation in conjunction with Nokia Maps on my N95, all streets and towns which contain any special character in their name (for example: é, è, ü, ä, ö, etc…) do appear as unreadable garbage on the screen of the N95.
I only noticed the problem after having purchased the 3 years license Navigation upgrade (EUR 99.99) and immediately notified Nokia. That was back in October. Since then I have called them at least 10 times and ultimately I have asked for a refund as no solution is still available.
In all these calls with Nokia, the only reasonable argument I heard was that maybe (!!!) the new software update version 20.0.015 released back at the end of November could solve the issue. Unfortunately, for my phone (which is a branded one) the update is not yet available.
Today, after calling them again, I was told that Nokia’s policies do not foresee refunds and therefore my request has been rejected. I was told to bring my phone to a Nokia Store and see if they can help me (I don’t see how). I was also told that maybe I would have to send-in the phone for repair.
This is soooo frustrating that despite the 3 months of patience and all the money spent for the N95 (not quite cheap), the navigation upgrade and the phone calls to Nokia, I still have the same issue. I will probably end up filing a complaint with a monthly consumer’s magazine in the hope they will publish my story.
After all, it may not even be Nokia’s fault but rather the guys who are responsible for the maps, but if Nokia accepts to have a commercial venture with a vendor, than they also accept liability for the joint product. And by turning down my legitimate request for refund, they have proven not to give a **bleep** about people like you and me.
Forgive me for the long post - needed to release some of the frustration...

I have been using an N95-8GB since Nov.'07. From my experience with this phone that has a built-in mass memory besides the phone memory. I had trouble retrieving some of the softwares I have installed. For eg. I have saved some themes in the mass memory & I could not find it when I want to delete it. There are some 3rd parties games software inside where I cannot even delete
This is what I don't like about the phone. I have bought an N82/Black recently as it uses an external memory card.
Coming back to Nokia maps. Personnaly, I don't think they are that good & I have problem downloading it into my phone from my PC after having downloaded it from Nokia.
By the way the Nokia map is not even the latest map 2.0. Is still a 1.0
I used Navfone map software & it works OK in the 8GB. You have to purchase it.
    I have used a couple of N-series phones in the past ie. N-90, N-70, N-71, N-73, N-80/Black, N95, N-95/8GB & now N-82.
Common with all N-series phones. After you have disconnected when you are done with your call you have to wait for a while before the word "disconnected" disappears.
The more features it has, the more problem you are gonna to encounter.
Unless you want to download softwares into your phone & have a good camera thats where the N series phones come in.
For normal usage, a 40 series phone will suffice.

  • Nokia Maps 2.0 don't show maps on N95

Installed the latest firmware on the N95 (V21.0.016 14-02-08 RM-159 A5.01), formatted the memory card, installed Nokia Maps 2.0 (v2.0wk21b02), started it (in order for MapLoader to work properly), installed MapLoader 1.3.8, installed the swiss and german maps via MapLoader (the files are definitively in the 'cities' directory on the memory card), rebooted the phone then started the maps application again. The GPS works find but no map is displayed (even though I'm in Switzerland, everything is just green background, no matter what kind of view (satellite, hybrid, 3d, normal) I choose.
    What's wrong? Bad quality assurance?

I got it working!!! I sure hope this helps you all too!!!!
Firstly, make sure you go to the app. manager on your phone (usually found in the applications folder) and delete the nokia maps 2 from there.
    Also reformat your memory card.
Then do what needtogetfit posted but I've made it step by step for ppl like me LOL):
Connect your phone to your computer using the "data transfer" NOT PC Suite. A folder should show up, if not, go to 'my computer' and it will be there as "memory card" or whatever you have named your card.
Open it and you will see a few files in there. Make sure you delete the folder "cities" or "diskcashe" if it is still there and also delete a file called qf-file. (for some reason they seem to stay there even after a reformat etc and that's what seems to stop the maps from being seen properly)
I also made sure I had 'show hidden files' checked in the tools/folder options/view so I could see if they were hidden or not.
I then installed the nokia maps from my computer onto my phone via PC suite.
Open up your maps (it may take awhile cause it's starting a new directory structure on your memory card to replace the ones you deleted)... and allow it to connect to the internet briefly so you can get satellite coverage. (dont panic, you will still only see a green page, but if you zoom out you should at least now see your country etc)
Once you've done that, close and connect your phone to your computer using the "data transfer" and open up the map loader program and download your countries maps + voices you may want.
Once done, go back to your maps and you will find that all the streets will be showing once again!!
I hope this helps, it worked for me and I tried it on two different reformatted cards that weren't working before this.

  • Problems with Swedish characters in maps on n95

I upgraded my n95 to the latest firmware, 12.0.0.013 and after that my swedish map shows garbled road and city names, i.e Korsnäsvägen is displayed ad Korsnäsvägen. It looks like an international character issue. I also lost my navigation subscription after the upgrade and cant find any info on how to get it back. I've reinstalled the latest Nokia maps app and redownloaded the swedish map several times without any improvement

Yes, I've reloaded the voice commands
    Hi tordolsson
    1. Start Maps application.
    2. Go to "Options > Extra services"
    3. Select "Add navigation > Accept > Purchase > Select the correct region" (I.e. the region you have earlier purchased the navigation to).
    4. You see a list of licenses with different lengths of time. You don't need to select the correct length, just go directly to "Options > Update".
    5. Allow connection to license server to check purchase & license options by selecting "Yes" and by selecting proper Internet access point (if asked).
    6. A note "xxx-day license activated" is shown where xxx is the amount of days left of your license.

  • GPS /MAPS Nokia n95

    Hey, I Got N95,
My MAPS And GPS Ect Dont Seem To Be Picking Upo Anything, They Just Ask For Bluetooth even when i connect to my WLAN nothing happens?
Do i need to download anything?
    Thanks.
    Josh

    Hi joshdaw
I don't think that your mate reformatted phone before giving it to you and it still has some of his chosen settings rather than default one's, as it sounds as if device looking for an external GPS rather than using internal one of your N95.
If you go to Menu > Tools > Settings > General > Personalization - now scroll down to bottom of screen and below "Factory settings" there is "Positioning" - in "Positioning methods" there should a red tick beside Assisted GPS, Internal GPS and Network based. In default setitngs there is NO tick beside Bluetooth GPS.
You would also need to define an Access point for Nokia Maps albeit either your GPRS network connection or WLAN.

  • Help On How To Download Maps to N95?

Hi, I've bought a Nokia N95 and am trying to download maps from the website but I'm getting lost.
Can anyone give me advice or a step-by-step guide on what to do?
I have tried looking for help but the problem's still there?
    Many thanks.
    Peter

    Hi peterandpeter
Firstly is version of Nokia Maps installed on your N95 the latest? Do you have three yellow or green symbols next to satellite rather than just satellite icon bottom right of screen?
Insert a microSD memory card into N95 and run Nokia Maps application. Enable an "active connection" either by WLAN or Network (remember to change settings to "never" afterwards if you don't want to incur data charges) and use [*] to zoom down to your position. Now exit application and folder structure required by Maploader application will be created on memory card.
It is now simpler to insert your microSD into card reader on PC when you requested by Maploader and it will allow you to proceed to download maps and/or voices as required.
You can also leave microSD in your N95 but it then needs to be used in "Data transfer" mode as a USB mass storage device not left in default "PC Suite" mode.
    Hope this helps you.

  • How to remove map from n95 8gb

i have no use for the map in my n95 8gb.its of no use to me and wanted to remove it.how to do it and if i remove it will it make any difference in the speed of my phone

    Nokia Software Update.
It will wipe clean the phone and re-write it again. With everything the same as if it were bought new. If the firmware has been updated then you may get new added features and fixed known bugs or issues with the phone
P.s dont do it if you dont fully understand how. You can destroy the phone if done incorrectly.

  • Cant download maps to N95

I have just got an N95 (today) - I tried to download UK maps today and the download just seemed to hang. I tried again and then have uninstalled maps and re-installed.
Now the maps program reports no device or memory card detected (even though explorer shows the device)
and when I run maps on the N95 it reports memory card full even though there is 980MB free. I have reformated the card (and re-run maps) but i get the same problem.
    Any ideas?

Seems to be working now for me - but I had to actually go outside and get a GPS signal first - tried it a number of times inside but no avail

  • Maps for N95

    G'day all,
Just wondering if it is possble to load maps from Discoveraus maps and topo's,(Got it on 512kb sd card)onto my N95 and make it work?
Also is it possible to use the gps in the N95 without using my network, just as i would with my Magellan gps.

    hi
the only maps that are compatible with "maps" application is the maps that are available trought maploader.
In the N95 you can use network services to get a better position with A-GPS that reduces about 50% the time you need to get GPS Fix but this is an option that you can chage in Maps- options- settings- net

    Hello anybody,
    I have bought a Nokia N95,

    to put them in.
the files are all with .prm
    can anyone help.
ps. these are not maps from nokia.com butt full maps from route 66

    Hi rummeke
Whereas the Nokia 6110 Navigator was in development prior to Nokia's acquisition of Smart2Go and uses Route 66 mapping, there is no way of using Route 66 maps with Nokia Maps application that I know of unfortunately as they are incompatible.

    Hi jaya_scbd
Establishing the very first satellite lock-on is the problem. I am assuming here that your N95 is running 10.0.018 or 11.0.026:
Go outside away from buildings and trees with clear view of sky. open slider, hold phone at 45degrees and don't cover the "#" key under which is GPS antenna.
If you go to Menu > Tools > GPS data > (searching for + calculating data) > Position > Options > Satellite status
This shows any number of satellites up to five - empty rectangle = not locked on - black filled rectangle = signal acquired; you need a minimum of 3 solid bars for lock-on and triangulation to work!
In Maps application it zooms in to last recorded position on starting. At first satellite icon bottom right corner has RED CROSS - this disappeears once signal acquired.

  • Update to V20.0.015 and Maps on N95..

I updated to the v20 software and my maps were not visible anymore. version of map software before was Ver3.0 now looks like Ver1.2
I reloaded the maps but still no show.
I removed the sim card and reloaded the maps and yes the maps are visible ( i found this info on a thread here)..
Just one thing some maps are offset... land and sea do not match... anyone can help with this?
I restored my old data..no problems...
The rest is great.. better gps position locking..faster..
better and faster handling of pics in gallery..
    better battery consumption....
I think its ok if i find a solution to this...
BTW I am from MALTA an island in the Med and its important to have this feature working....
Also can someone add Malta to the list of countries to input into the Phone in initilisation..
    Thanks
    Joe

As grschinon says, they almost certainly will be able to tell from the IMEI number.
I always take the reciept along when I have taken handsets in very much so if you are taking it into a Carphone Warehouse somehow the local one to me insists on it, others I know will barcode the handset and then it comes up on the internal Nokia System that they are logged into, (which the CPW should also be able to access they always say that its broken! ) and it comes up with lots of details about the handset.
As I mentioned before, all is not lost if 25 miles is too far away then you can also use the Nokia Freepost service to send it to Nokia UK central service centre.
Whereas the local service centre should be able to use their boot loader to reflash it in an hour or two, the send away service will be a few days.
    http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4767799#
and the form and address to send it to are in PDF here:
    http://tinyurl.com/5dmq4e
    For UK.
Using the Nokia updater on a handset that you are updating the official firmware on does not invalidate the warranty. If like I said previously done anything silly, which I will not go into here! then you should be fine.
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

  • Navigation with Nokia Maps crash (N95 8Gb)

    Hi All.
Does anyone have this problem, when the Nokia Maps start Navigation and is calculation route, Crash !
    Thanks,

Here's my brand new, maps crashing issue; For some bizzare reason, I thought I'd try to use a-gps. I've always had pretty good luck with the thing syncing but it could be better.
I recently came to Germany and got a MOBI (vodafone) sim card and I set vodafone live as my provider. It didn't seem to be any faster so I went into setting, (in maps) and tried to turn it off.
The problem is; I can't. When I go into Maps settings and click on Network, it shuts off Maps or reboots the phone. Now, whenever I turn on maps, it logs onto vodafone and burns off all of my credit in about 5 minutes...and I can't turn it off and I can't use maps without using all of my expensive credit.
It's really **bleep** me off. This is the first software issue I've had with this thing and I have no idea how to solve it. I've gone into Tools>General>Positioning methods and only have Integrated gps checked but it's still logging on.
It's a real pain. If I could remember my lock code, I'd reset everything to default.
    Any idea...?
    Thanks

  • HELP maps on N95 8gb won't load up

I have taken delivery of my new B95 8gb phone today.
I go onto the maps icon and press the start button.
I get the pic of the world and maps starts to load up.
When the bar gets to 30% it jumps back to the menu screen.
I've installed the latest version, that didn't work.
I've tried to remove maps altogether with a view to re installing it and that didn't work.
    Someone please help me !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I presume when you got the phone it had Nokia Maps V1.0 installed and you subsequently upgraded it to V2.0. In order for V2.0 to work you will have to download the latest map data as well.
Download Map Loader 1.3.8 rom the same site you downloaded Maps V2.0 from. Install it and use it to download latest map data.
Try to run Maps again after that.
