Margins with Logical / Physical page layouts

Dear all,
We have created an Oracle 6i report with 2 horizontal panels as we couldn't fit in all the fields into one page. It’s the first time I have worked with is and I am little unsure of what i am doing.
The layout contains many repeating frames so on some cases when we preview the report it my go onto a third page but as its not all cases I don't want to create a 3rd panel.
The problem I have is that when the 3rd page is created the text appears in the middle of the page and I don't know how to tell it to print say 10 lines from the top.
Any ideas.
I apologies in advance if this is simple and offends anyone; I just couldn't come up with the answer.

Danny, good try but that's not the problem. Margins and so forth apply to physical pages, and we get the margins we want.
But we have a logical page that spans 2 physical pages, and there is no way I know of to force a page break at the end of the first physical page.
Let's say you have 9 inches of vertical usable space on each physical page, after taking away the margins.
You define your logical page to span 2 physical pages, so it has 18" to work with. And it treats those 18" as a single continuous area. So if a line of text that renders as starting at 8.95" down, and finishing at 9.08" down, you'll get the top half the bits for each character on the first sheet of paper and the other half on the next.
Everything's nice if you use character mode, or if you have 1 logical page for every physical page. However, there should be some way to control layout on the physical pages when the logical page spans them. If there is, I've never found it.

My Adobe XI software no longer converts Word to PDF files with hyperlinks or page layout preserved.

Is anyone else having the same problem where the initial installation worked fine and over time, you are no longer able to adjust the setting in the 'convert to PDF' menu for Word documents? I am now faced with Word documents that lose their hyperlinks on conversion and when there are changes in page orientation (e.g., portrait to landscape and back again), the software creates sub files for each kind of page layout. In a word, the software has become useless. What can I do to fix this?

In order to preserve links on Mac Word to PDF. You need to do as follows (note this only preserves links created by Word's auto Correct. Not by Word's URL Creator.)
Method #1
Create Document save as .docx as backup.
Go to File Menu > Print
Click and hold the PDF button, a Context menu appears.
Choose Adobe Quality PDF, or Adobe PDF (depends upon Version of Mac OS X)
First Choose quality (similar to Job Options in Distiller) and whether to open using Acrobat Or Reader.
Next a Title will appear. (in format "microsoft.nameoffle.docx.pdf").
You can leave file name as is or remove the Microsoft and the .docx from the Name
Save File.
This method also will print pdf, even if it has section and Page breaks except when there is orientation change from Portrait, or landscape.
Method #2
Do step 1 above.
Locate the file Created.
Drag the file either on top the actual Application or its Icon in the Dock.
Wait ......
When Acrobat opens Immediately save.
Again all links created with Auto-correct will be live.
And pages will be intact in the PDF except when there is a Change in orientation.
Auto correct will create links/URL's when you type such the will automatically turn blue and become underlined. And clicking on the in the word Document will go to the link.
What does not work until Adobe fixes a 10-15 year old bug is where you select word then go to Insert menu> URL. A window opens and you choose the link or email, in the URL Creator.
Also the Bug where changes in section, and pages breaks cause new PDF that have to be put together has not been completely cured. (Still splits when orientation changes.) Has been proved by Microsoft to be a Bug Adobe can't or won't fix. You simply take a Mac Word File open it in the PC version and create a PDF. And works perfect.

Custom Master Page with Custom Page Layout

Hi All,
I have created a Custom SharePoint Master Page. In that Master Page I have created a custom Header & Footer. In between the header and the footer I created a space to put page's content.
However I have created a page using that master page and it was successfully published.
After that I wanted to create a Custom Page Layout using that Page previously created. That also was a successful one. But when default Page Layouts in SharePoint 2013 inserted to a page it shows an area that can add content. But in my Page Layout inserted
to a page it does not show like that.
So what have I missed when I created the Custom Page Layout? Could you kindly someone tell me how to solve this matter?

Can you confirm that your custom page layout has the same WebPart Zones as the default one? They need to be if you wish to see content that was added with the default page layout.

Adding validation to custom page layout with taxonomyfieldcontrol

According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to add some validations to the TaxonomyFieldControl.
We can use the
TaxonomyFieldControl.validate method to ensure that all taxonomy data is valid.
To use the built-in taxonomy controls of SharePoint 2010 your best choice might be to go with the
TaxonomyWebTaggingControl.
This is the class the field control of the TaxonomyField,
TaxonomyFieldControl itself uses internally to render its content, although it does not expose the full capability of the control.

Create custom web-part page with OOTB page layout using CSOM (Javascript)

Hi,
I need to create a custom webpart page with a OOTB page layout (eg. Header 3 column footer) using JSOM.
I found a link to do this using CSOM: http://spdevlab.com/2013/03/28/creating-wiki-web-part-and-publishing-pages-via-csom-in-sharepoint-2010/
But here i have to copy the page template from 15 hive and store it in a resource file and I am also getting error as "The request message is too big" and to fix this I need to run a powershell script but I need the code to run in SharePoint online
also.
Isn't there a simpler piece of code in which I can enter the name of the page layout(OOTB/Custom) while creating a page in JSOM as we have in SSOM?

In the edit mode, the date is getting shown, and I am able to select a date. When the page is published, the entered date is not getting displayed.

I tried to reproduce this issue like this:
1. Create a DateTime site column “MyDateTimeCol01”;
2. Create a Calculated site column “MyCalculated03” with formula “=TEXT(MyDateTimeCol01,"MMMM dd, yyyy")”;
3. Create a Page Layout content type contains the two site columns above;
4. Create a Page Layout with the Page Layout content type, the source code of this page layout as below:

Can we resize and change the background image in a 2 page layout?

I am a two page layout report in RTF. Can I use different background image on page 1 and page 2? The first page background will not be repeated but the second page will. Also, it seems when we insert a background image by going "Format -> Background -> Fill effect -> Picture", after we finished the whole process we can't get the background image to fit with the page, can we resize it to be fit with the page? Thanks for your help!

Yes. Select the image and go to the Inspector/Hyperlink/Link pane and use the Link to One of my Pages option.
Remember: the photo must be added to the page by dragging it onto the page and then be selected. It can't be added as a background image with the Inspector/Page/Layout pane.

Oracle reports Page layout problem in HTML

Hi,
I am Using Oracle Reports6i to create my web reports. I found some problem with my reports page layout.
When I print my report from browser which is generated in html, it prints my first page's page number in begining of my second page and it continues in all pages disordering the report.
When I try to print from report builder It prints perfectly.
I want to know how do I control my page layout in html without asking user to set anything in browser each time they print.
Please try to help me with this.

SharePoint 2013 - Custom Master Page / Page Layout

Hi there,
- I've covert an HTML file using Design Manager >> Edit Master Pages to convert successfully. Now I've a custom master page.
- I changed my default master page to custom master page and it looks fine. But the problem is when I try to edit the page all the web parts (snippets) are appears at the bottom of custom master page.
- So I created new page layout
- After conversion successful.
- When I can click on new page this message shows up.

As per my understanding try to do check the below things,
Try to restore the previous version of master, page layout and the home page and cross check the malfunctioned part by comparing both current and previous content
Check for special characters added in page layout ,page
Cross with the content type mapped with this new page layout
Check for custom solution is retracted from Farm
Optionally check for any updates gone in server
OR

Page Layout Design migration to subsites

I created a master page for my main site with a specific page layout design. I want to propagate the same design layout to my subsites. How can I implement this?

Set your custom master page as default master page & check the checkbox for Reset all subsidies to inherit this Site Master Page setting.

Custom Webdynpro Proxy Page Layout

We recently upgraded from NW04 to NW04s. We see the new Webdynpro Proxy Page template.
I successfully created custom page layouts with the default page layouts in NW04.
However, our custom page loyouts do not appear in the drop down list for the webdynpro proxy page, but they do appear in the list for the default page layout.
How do we create a custom page layout for the webdynpro proxy page template?

Yes, you can validate the fields using jquery. Check the status of each field before the validation. Refer to the following post for more information

Cropping error with picture book page type 2

Hi, I'm trying to layout my first book in iPhoto and am running into a problem with one particular page layout. Whenever I have two tall pictures on a page, iPhoto chops off a large part of the side of the photo. If I select "Fit Photo to Frame Size" the photo is shoved to the edge of the frame boundary and still doesn't show the missing part of the photo.
Has anybody else run into this problem before?
I'm using iPhoto 5.0.4 (263)
I have the same problem with both the classic picture book theme and the newer version.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are they both cropped to the recommended 4:3 book constrain? If they aren't that may be the reason. The frames are designed for 4:3 photos and will fill the frame precisely with them. If the photo is a different size one of the dimensions will suffer.

Page Numbering on repeating frame with 3 logical pages per physical page

We have a report in Reports 6i that prints a form on continous multi-part paper. We are converting the report to print to a laser printer with three forms per page. Each form has page numbers in the format of "page 1 of 15". The "page" refers to the form number and the "of" refers to the total number of forms for the outer group. So we could have page 1 of 15 through page 15 of 15 followed by page 1 of 112, etc.
I have tried all of the suggestions on how to base page numbers on a repeating frame and non of them seem to work. All the examples seem to be based on the idea that the logical page contains 1 or more physical pages; whereas my situation is that I have multiple logical pages on each physical page.
Does anyone have a thought on how to do this?

Create one summary column (lets say cs_pagenumber) in inner group and provide following:
Function: Count
Source: any field from innrer group
Reset At: outer group
Create one summary column (lets say cs_totalpages) in outer group and provide following:
Function: Count
Source: any field from innrer group
Reset At: outer group
(above will work if one field is printed only once in a form)
Create a field in inner repeating frame for cs_pagenumber and create a boilerplate text (&cs_totalpages) in the same repating frame for cs_totalpages. This should solve the problem.

Logical page/Physical page/Page Break

I have to create a form like report. Without data it takes 3 A4 pages, with data it can expand to 5 pages or more. So in report developer I create for Main section: Width=21 Height=29.7, Horizontal Panels per page=1, Vertical Panels per page=3.
First problem:
When I run the report with data, which coused that report expands to more then 3 A4 pages, I can only see and print 3 pages. I want to have all pages.
Second problem:
Inside report there is repating frame with more repeating frames inside for displayin some sort of tables. I want that each record of outer repeating frame is on new A4 page. I set Page break before=Yes for outer frame. When I run report I can see the data before the frame and then two blank pages. I think that Page break before=Yes makes page break for logical page (in my case 3 A4 pages) and then I am on the first problem. How to make Page Break for one A4 (physical) page only?
Any ideas how to solve these problems?

Hi Nguyen,
It was pretty difficult running the report. Here are the changes I made so that the report runs sucessfully:
1. Changed "Vertical Panels per Page" to 1. The reason: this property equates pages in your report to priter pages. Eg, a value of 2 means that each page in your report is equivalent to 2 physical printer pages. This may be needed if you design very large pages, but the dimensions of physial printer pages are smaller. We do not need this. So I changed it to 1.
2. In Paper Layout editor, fit everything on 1 page. At runtime it can flow to more than 1 page, no problem. But we want to 'design' 1 page. It was just overflowing a little bit on to the 2nd page, I changed it so that it fits on 1st page itself.
3. Changed "Print Object On" to First Page, instead of All pages for all frames and boilerplate text objects. Reason - page breaks here refer only to Logical pages, not to physical pages as you might have imagined. For the report, everything is 1 logical page, even though you see the output on 3-5 physical pages. Pl see Report Builder Help on this property, it explains things with graphics.
The hardest part was step 3 - it took me a long while to figure that out.
Now the report appears correctly with all the data. Now the only problem is to figure out how to do a page break before M37. We can figure that out, but first can you try these changes, and let me know that you are at least getting ALL DATA in your report output?

Can you help me with Page Layout and/or Design ideas for a software manual?

I am a new InDesign user, and am converting a software manual that I created in MS Word into InDesign. It will be converted to a pdf to view online. I have the basics (3 master pages, page numbers, running headers, 2column pages with text boxes on the left and screenshots on the right), but I want to make it look prettier. Could you please give me some ideas on page layout and/or design to make it look better or more creative?
A few things that I am considering: borders around screenshots, a watermark, a logo next to the page numbers, different size/type of fonts, etc.
I am open to any suggestions to make this look better. However, please understand that I am new to InDesign. With that being said, please tell me a few steps when you mention your tips. Thank you!

Take a look at a few websites on Cannons of Page Construction.
I think the best idea for you is to look at a few software manuals and take tips from how they accomplished the layouts.
I'm not saying to copy them - but rather see what works and doesn't work, what worked for them might not necessarily work for you - research some layouts.
Fonts/type/sizes etc. are pretty much ambigious without context - is this a software manual for kids (soft cuddly big fonts easy to read), technical (small, tight spacing etc), Adult friendly (smooth, crisp clear, well spaced), elderly (large elegant fonts).
It all really depends on your demographic audience.
Being new to InDesign I suggest you take up Sandy Cohens Quickstart Visual Guide.
I think you should look at Michael Murphys Book on Styles
And you should definitely get your printer (the guys bulk printing) the booklet for you on board from the start to work out optimal sizes to suit their printing presses and workflow etc. And to ensure that you are setup correctly in page sizes, margins, safe type areas, colour profiles and a few other things that your printers prepress can help you with.
