  • Have an image stay within a moving mask in stock video footage

HI, I am new to Motion (still using Motion 4) and I have some stock footage that has a mask contained within a TV screen that swings down from the ceiling.  I can easily get the jpeg I want within the TV screen when it's not moving, but how do I get it to track with the movement of the screen without having to distort and keyframe every frame?  Please help, total newbie, searched dicussions and found similar posts but nothing that is completely applicable and illuminating! Any links to tutorials, etc would be massively helpful.  Thank you.

    hi
how many frames is it? keyframing is often not that hard or timeconsuming. You could look at the motion trackers in Motion. You apply an Analyse Motion bevahiour to your stock footage. adding markers to the bits you want to track. Then apply a Match Move behaviour to the jpg. If you create a four corner pin track it should distort the jpg accordingly.

  • How can I align mask with object in Y axis?

    Hi
Can anybody help me? I want to put small band on the upper arm of man in the scene, he is walking from right to left, I put my image in upper layer and made rectangle band and animated it with his arm but the problem is that I cant align the band with arm in Y axis, because of that there are some small tremors in the band, how can I define exact point on the arm and align my mask with it?
    Appreciate any help in advance

^ Yep, Mylenium is right. There are two ways to do things - the easy way and the hard way. The easy way always involves thinking things through and establishing what you want before you shoot. Can you shoot with the band in place? If not, can you add tracking markers to the arm to facilitate adding the band later?
The hard way occurs when you have no choice and the work has to be done after the shoot. And Mylenium is dead right - before computers, EVERYTHING was done by hand, manually checking frame by frame until animations were correct. If your footage does not have the adequate preparation or detail for a computer to track, and you're unable to reshoot, the only option is to animate manually, check, fix, re-check, fix etc.
The Motion Tracking Workflow section of the manual is an excellent introduction:

  • How to get 3D coordinates of reflective markers using two cameras?

    Hi,
I am very new to LabVIEW (in fact to any coding at all) and helping my adviser to get the 3D coordinates of a few reflective markers using two cameras. I am able to read the marker coordinates (x, y) from two cameras simultaneously by processing the data in real-time using codes generated from vision assistant. However, we want to get the depth position by triangulating the markers. I have seen stereo vision doing something similar to this, but I think the stereo vision may not work with our calibration frame (markers) and we don’t need the whole depth image, but only the maker’s z coordinates. I also want to use Region of Interest to mask out other regions that are creating reflections. However, I am not sure if triangulation would work if we select region of interest (as the origin of the camera coordinates would change after selecting ROI). I saw this link http://kwon3d.com/theory/dlt/dlt.html#3d where they used DLT (direct linear transformation) method, but it is too much to code from the beginning. Is there a subVI in LabVIEW or some sort of prewritten code that can be customized? Can anyone please give me some advice on how to solve this problem?

Well in theory, if you know exactly where the cameras are pointed, how far apart they are, and how far the reflector images are above or below the horizon and to the right or left of center line, a little simple math should give you the answer. Concerning the ROI I would think all you needed to know was where the ROI was relative to horizon and centerline. You could then calculate an absolute position from there, which would also give you the angles you would need.
Unfortunately, I don't know of any readily availble code. But I'm sure there is some! With the emphasis on FIRST robotics, I got to believe that judging distances in 3D space is something for which there is a lot of code.

  • History Masking and Timeline

Disclaimer: this feature request doesn't fall under the "absolutely essential" category, and at this point it's only a rough idea.
I'd like to have a timeline with sliders (like in a movie or animation program, but actually more like when creating Photoshop gradients, as I'll explain). The timeline would default to one slider at the end of the timeline, indicating that all vector elements are visible. Sliding this slider backward would gradually hide elements, beginning wtih the most recently created. As when creating a gradient, new sliders could be created to only mask elements created earliest, or sometime in the middle. "Keyframe" markers could easily be added at any point to mark the beginning and end of work periods so that they can be easily masked.
Perhaps the most useful function of this tool is that it provides a quick way to unclutter a document. Working on an elaborate illustration? Mask the first half of your work so you don't keep accidentally selecting it (or mask any other point in your history where you created invasive details). When you're quickly sketching, it can actually be most intuitive to "bound" regions by time rather than space -- simply highlight a rough period of your history that you want to make dissapear for a moment.
But, the tool would provide many creative oppurtunities. First, this would be an easy way to fiddle with illustration states, rather than saving copies, hiding and unhiding layers, etc. -- especially when you're trying to quickly sketch an idea (and, say, want to play around with shading styles). But this would also be a creative tool, like Photoshop's history brush, though this interface would enhance that concept significantly. Sliders are an intuitive/natural way to navigate history. In some cases you may not know precisely what "frame" you want to return to, in which case casually fiddling with a slider will produce the best results. And, just as many professional artists begin with scribbles, which gradually take form, playing with an objects timeline (masking random portions) could simply serve as a fun creative tool. It would be interesting to see, for example, what it looks like when you partially obscure a period of your line art history and a period of your color history -- the effect would be unique on your order of operations, how you color, etc.
    Thoughts?

Good suggestions Wim. Both are much requested items, but it is always good to revisit them!
The masking debate is interesting, as it can be combined to localize all edits. Mark Hamburg (adobe) participated in one thread on how this might be accomplished. As I recall, there were two schools of thought (at least): selection vs painting. It was quite exciting to see Mark participate and illuminating too - in the depth of thought that goes into these "features".
Adding the perspctive control to the crop is a logical extension a la photoshop. I hope this is just a matter of time, as the Lr team works their way down the priotity list.
    Cheers

  • Changing control points of bezier mask?

This is probably a pretty simple question to answer, but I can't figure out how to change the control points of a mask after deselecting the mask layer and reselecting. I set my control points, then went through and made some other markers in the clip, then went back to the mask layer. The control points aren't showing up and the mask tool (that I used to make the mask) is deactivated. I've had this problem before and have been able to create a new mask and change the control points as long as I stay in the mask layer, but I'm sure there's a way to go back and forth. Does anyone know?
    Thanks!

Press the tab key until your tool changes to Adjust Control Points. Alternatively, you can press and hold on the arrow tool and select it from the pop-up menu...

  • Chapter Markers are off from where I set them in FCP HD

I just completed editing a Hip Hop concert with 12 performers. I put chapter markers at the start of each groups performance in FCP HD. When I exported my project I included the chapter markers as well. I used the new iDVD5 to burn the DVD. I DO have DVD Studio Pro but am not effecient with that yet. Anyway, after the long encoding process and burn, I watched the DVD on my set top DVD player.
When I tested out the DVD skipping from one group to the next, it wouldn't go right to the next group! For some reason the markers were coming up 20-30 seconds before the next performance! So you would see the end of the performance you are currently watching before it switched to the next scene or in my case next group.
The Chapter Markers are placed at the very begining of the groups performance so why after I burn the DVD is it putting the markers up to 30 seconds before where I want it?
Should I try to move the markers forward about 20-30 seconds or so? This is annoying because its perfect in FCP HD but its not placing them in the right places in iDVD5. I should be able to skip to each group as if it were a scene in a movie.
    Any suggestions?

All your problems are related to not having the Record Keyframes button on (A). If you create a keyframe point for your mask position and then advance a few frames in the timeline and start moving those mask positions, a new keyframe is NOT created. Instead the points for the mask shape, INCLUDING the the keyframed position are re-positioned relative to the amount you moved them.
If you are going to manually set keyframes (not at ALL recommended), then you have to set the keyframe BEFORE you make any changes to the mask.

  • Is there a way to make the Markers panel work better with the Source panel?

My workflow is to first cut a multi-cam project (but it could be any long clip), then watch it all over again to make notes about what to keep and what to kick.  So after I'm done cutting the initial rough cut of the entire hour or two of footage, I'll set focus to the Markers panel and begin watching the entire clip from the beginning to make notes as markers within the clip.
I'll play the clip back in the Source monitor and when something interesting happens, I'll type "M" on the keyboard.  This places a marker in the clip (or multi-cam clip in my case).  Without stopping the clip, I'll pick up my mouse and tap the Markers tab in the notes section for the last marker laid down.  I'll type a note (something like "S" for interesting "Shot" or "HUGS" or "DANCING" to indicate the main action occuring at this point in the clip, or "Mike:  Are we there, yet?" for a key dialog point).  Next, I'll move my mouse back to the Source panel (the video has not stopped this entire time) and give any gray area of the Source panel a tap just to activate it.  I'll watch for the next point of interest and repeat the process.  M to mark.  Move to the Markers panel.  Tap the last marker.  Type some notes.  Move back to the Source panel and tap to give the panel focus.  This works fairly well, but could be tuned, with just a few options, to make it more streamlined for this type of use.
What I'd like to be able to do is never leave the keyboard AND use minimal keyboard shortcuts.  A perfect workflow might be:
    1. Start playing the clip in the Source panel.
    2. Type "M" to drop a marker.  Focus would AUTOMATICALLY move to the notes section of that marker within the Markers panel, while the video continues to play on in the Source panel.
    3. I type my notes into the Markers panel and hit Enter, or CTRL+Enter, which returns focus to the Source panel.
This would allow me to quickly build a list of markers and notes about a clip or sequence without ever stopping and without once touching my mouse (unless I get behind and need to backup).  Currently, the only time I really get behind is when clicking on a window and not realizing that focus was not given to that window, so that when I hit "M" again, for example, I don't actually create a new marker, but rather add the letter "M" to my most recent Marker note.
All of this seems a very common task for anyone who works in reality TV, or even event videography.  Who's with me?  Can this be done already?  If not, I'll submit a feature request.  How would you make this feature better?

Sounds like you did this on the fly.
MM is supposed to open the Marker Panel Dialogue
    M just sets a marker
Not sure if either are intended for on the fly during playback .
There is also a Marker Icon on the Source Window Pane  >>

  • Multiple Exclusion Criteria[Exclusion Mask] in Sender File Adapter

    Hello All,
I have a requirement to specify multiple exclusion criteria in the 'Exclusion Mask' property of a Sender File Adapter, i.e. I need to pick up files that correspond to 111*.txt from a specified source directory, but I would also want to exclude specific individual files that go by the following names:-111ACC.txt, 111INV.txt & 111PUR.txt.
I have tried the following - Specified 111*.txt in the 'File Name' field and in the 'Exclusion Mask' field specified ACC, INV & PUR - the exclusion criteria separated by commas. But this does not seem to work. All the 111* files are getting picked up.
Have gone through a couple of weblogs that deal with exclusion masks, but they do not talk about multiple exclusion criteria.
Is there any other way I could accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    Anand

    Hi,
    Try this config.
Give  *.txt in filename. and Directory as <YourDir>
    In exclusion mask give 111ACC.txt
Below this there will be a table. Add two Entries
    Dont add anything to FilenameMask.
    Directory ->FileNameMask--->ExclusionMask
    <yourDir>->--->111INV.txt
    <YourDir>->--->111PUR.txt
    Try this and get back.

  • Can't view markers in LiveType

I can't view markers in Livetype (Using LiveType 2.1 and Final Cut Express HD 3.5.1).
In order to synch a LiveType to audio... I've set up the audio in Final Cut Express, and marked the audio at my placement points...
In Final Cut Express, I select File-Export-For Livetype
    And select All-Markers
    Save it to my desktop
Open it in LiveType (Place background movie)
The background movie is there, but there are no markers.
Any thoughts? This is driving me nuts. I've tried exporting as a self-contained movie and not as a self-contained movie, as audio only, or as audio and video.
    Many thanks,
    Brett

Never used FCE so I assume your workflow is accurate or you've checked it carefully against the manual. Are you attaching markers to the audio clip, the video clip or to the sequence?
In FCP, one can place markers on audio clips separately from video clips. LT has no audio support so that would make it impossible to see audio markers.
I've never used markers to sync in LT, it's a silly way to work. I create all of my LT effects as individual items, designing them with sufficient handles to allow for fades or moves, and composite in FCP. Trying to do more than one thing at a time in LT is uncomfortable.

  • The difference between chapter markers and dvd studio pro markers

Does anyone know what is the difference between chapter markers and dvd studio pro markers? I can not find anywhere on Google. Also in the tutorials I have seen, suggesting DVD Studio Pro markers, but it did not mention the chapter markers.
    Thanks,

"Adding Chapter and Compression Markers to Your Sequence
Once you have your edited sequence or program finished, you can add markers to the sequence for use on DVD. Markers are reference points you can place within clips or sequences that identify specific frames. There are two kinds of markers you can add that directly relate to authoring a DVD—chapter markers and compression markers.
    • Chapter markers allow DVD authoring applications to create a navigable chapter list for your exported QuickTime movie. Chapter markers force MPEG keyframes (known as I-frames) at their location, since the DVD specification requires an I-frame at each chapter point.
    • Compression markers identify areas of abrupt change and include two types: those that are automatically inserted by Final Cut Pro at all edit points, and those you manually place in the clip or sequence. Like chapter markers, compression markers force I-frames at their location, although in this case it is for better quality encoding, and they are not used to create a chapter list.
Note: When you export a QuickTime movie, you have an option to export various kinds of markers, including compression, chapter, or DVD Studio Pro markers. *When you choose to export DVD Studio Pro markers, Final Cut Pro actually exports chapter markers and all compression markers.* This includes compression markers you set manually, as well as ones created automatically by Final Cut Pro at edit and transition points."

  • XML tag markers moved: Find and Replace causing problem in xml elements

    Hi All,
I am doing find and replace using GREP. While using the expression like $1, $2 (Found Items) in the change to field it changes the placement of tag marker. If the found item is a part of two of more xml elements, I am getting a serious problem while replacing it. (ie. The xml tag markers are moved.)
See the screen shot below, then you may get better idea. And help me to overcome this issue.
This is just an example to show you what i'm trying to say, there are so many cases like this.
Original text/ Before doing find replace
    After replacing
    Green4ever

    Hi Peter and John,
but it seems to me that the example is looking for any space that
follows a semi-colon and has two word characters following it, and
repalce that with an em space. I think you could do the same using look
behind and look ahead and not need to replace the found text.
Yes you are right about the look behind and look ahead. I'd like to show some more examples to show what the actual problem is,
    Original/Before Replacing,
(Consider there is another case here, instead of em-space some times normal word space will also be there)
    Using the Grep:
    Find What---------> ^(\d+\.(?:\d+)?)~m
    Change To------------->$1\t
    After Replace:
Did I make any sense? Eventhough this will not make any changes in the layout, my requirement is to insert the tab out-side the tag marker not indise.

  • Is there any  way to Mask the Name when  a select statement is issued?

    Dear all,
Is there any way to mask the name .. i mean if User issue a select statement in a customer table the real name should come like ' ABCXXXDEFXXCFXX'... Which is not the actual name?
e.g if Name: CHIEV SONG MEE
    If user issue a statment select * from customers;
The Result Should come something Like this:
    Name
    CHXXV SXNG MXX
    Thank You

    user3029023 wrote:
but it seems there is no option in oracle it self which can be used as there they are saying to get a data masking software which we can't due to some internal issues....I would not say that. How one implements masking depends entirely on the requirements that need to be met.
For example, schema A owns all the tables. Schema B can be created as a "trusted" schema - in other words, schema A trusts schema B and allows it full access (with grants) to its tables. Schema B implements data masking as views. For each table in A, a view exists in B that implements the required masking. B can now grant select access on these views to user C. User C will see the same data object names in B as it would have if it used A - only, by using the B data objects it uses masked data objects and not the original source data objects.
Another example - schema Dev is to have all the data objects of schema Prod, but masked where needed. One can use CTAS (Create Table As Select) to create the required tables in Dev with masked values where relevant. This Dev schema can be "refreshed" on weekends by dropping all tables and getting a new fresh copy of production data and masking it - ready for the next week's development cycle.
If the application use is for example APEX, then instead of coding SQL directly as reporting regions to display, a function is used instead. APEX supports reporting regions where it calls a function and this function provides the APEX run-time with the SQL to execute and contents to render. It is easy to use this approach to implement logic in functions that masked column data depending on who the APEX user is, the security/role attributes of the user, and so on.
No there is not a single "+mask this column!+" feature in Oracle.. but that does not mean that such a feature is not supported and cannot be implemented. Oracle has a very comprehensive and rich set of tools - more so than most (if not all) other RDBMS products.
It is up to the architect/designer/developer to use this toolkit in creating a system that meets the specific requirements at hand.

  • What is the difference between Create shapes or masks from text characters?

What is the main difference between Create shapes or masks from text characters and why use one over the other, or when is one preferred over the other?
I am still fairly new to AE and am trying to better understand this, or can you point me to where i might look for the answer?
CS5 if that make a difference.

One creates masks, the other creates shape layers. There are properties that you can animate with shape layers that are not available to masks. There are also a few things you can do with masks that you can't with shape layers.
I'd suggest you take a look at the help files or do a Google Search on After Effects Shape Tutorials.
