Massive mp3 file(path) move question
Alright so I recently purchased a 2 terabyte network server for my home network. The purpose of this is to move all my music, movies, photos, etc. to the network drive in order to clear out all that space on my laptop's drive. At this point and time, I've only copied all my music to network drive. Figure the next step would be is to delete all my music off my local drive. But then got a little worried about iTunes. Now when I delete my music off my local drive, iTunes will be looking for the mp3s via the originated file path. Obviously the file is not going to be there. So when this happens in iTunes, the circularly enclosed exclamation point pops up and iTunes wants you to manually and find the file for it to play. So essentially my question is... Since I'm doing this on a large scale, Is there an easier way to get this done?
Best solution I was able to come up with was to delete all the songs in iTunes and re-drag all the music back in there. BUT... the problem I have with that a good majority of the music's album artwork were manually put in by me (kind of uh...yeah about seeing the album artwork on the screen when I'm listening to my iPod). So I don't want lose all that it. Help! Kind of long, I know. Appreciate any help or suggestions.

Simple question: How do I invoke the Open command in the File Path control? My reason is of my user hasn't supplied a file, then I want to force the user to select one.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Most file related vi should prompt if there is no file path. If for some reason you are not getting that you could check to see if the file path is empty and add a prompt see below:

Database Toolkit Sub query Syntax and file path expectation question.
I need some assistance from those of you smarter than I.
I have two database files (not two tables in the same database file) one represents information delivered from an external interface, and the other is used by the internal interface associated with the processing half of my application. Data is received (i.e. fields are populated) from the external interface to one database file and that data is then copied to another database file where the information will be processed by the internal interface. This is being done because I am worried about file access issues that might occur if two different interfaces (external & internal) try to access the same file at the same time (without dealing with semaphores). I am not too worried about the sanctity of the data since each record supplied from the external interface should not effect any of the data being used by the internal interface. So the first question is , am I being to primitive in my thinking assuming that I would run into file access issues if I were to just use two tables in the same database file for the same purpose ?
My second question is related to my current implementation where I have two separate database files representing the external and internal interface data. Currently when a new set of data is entered into the External Interface Database file, an alert is issued, and another task copies the data from that file into Internal Interface Database, then the data is deleted from the External Interface Database file. My question is related to the syntax that I am using to provide the described functionality. I am currently using a INSERT with a subquery to the External Interface Database file i.e. INSERT INTO InternalDB FROM ExternalDB.ExternalTable WHERE Order = '06306049'; .
My question is when I run this query with both database files in same directory I get an error stating that the ODBC driver can not find the ExternalDB.ExternalTable in the Parent Directory of the subdirectory where the files are actually located. The system DSN is set up correctly for the ExternalDB, and if I move it to the parent directory the query works correctly, my question is why would I have to put the two database files in seperate directories for this to work and is there a way to avoid this ?
Thanks..

Program for turning animated .gif and MP3 files to .mov
I need a program that takes an animated GIF and an MP3 of WAV file and turns them into a .mov file, but I don't have the money for FinalCut. Is there a cheaper (or free) program that can do this thing?

How do I move mp3 files from my iPod to my computer?
Short version:
I need to move music from my iPod to my computer so I can fix ID3 (or AAC) tags on the mp3 files, then move the same, corrected mp3 files back to the iPod.
Long version:
I used to have a Pioneer car stereo with iPod control. It displayed all of the song information correctly. I got a new car about a year ago that didn't have iPod control. Today, I finally got a new stereo that supports full iPod control. I plugged in my iPod for the first time in over a year (I only use it in my car). The files may have become corrupt or something while my iPod has been collecting dust, but now the song title, artist, and album are all displayed as the song title.
Instead of:
Gimme Shelter
Rolling Stones
Greatest Hits
It displays:
Gimme Shelter
Gimme Shelter
Gimme Shelter
The real head scratcher for me is that it only does this on some songs. Maybe 10% of the songs still have the ID3 tag intact (although the album art doesn't display so I want to fix that anyway).
I don't use the iTunes store. All of the music that is on my iPod was legally purchased as CDs and ripped to my old computer years ago. I don't have that computer any more, and I no longer have the mp3 library that was on it. I don't want to go through the hassle of ripping all of my music from my CD library back to my computer, import it to iTunes, then copy it over to my iPod. It seems like I should be able to transfer my ripped mp3 library from my iPod into my new computer, fix the ID3 tags, then copy them back to my iPod.
I'm using an old 30GB iPod Video. I have no use for upgrading it to something new.
I found this article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329
But it explicitly states that it won't work with music that wasn't purchased from the iTunes store (which mine wasn't). I really wish that Apple didn't think it knew what was best for me and would let me use the hardware that I purchased the way that I want to use it. Is there any third party software or anything that will help me do what I need to do?That article is about using your iPod as an external hard drive, to move files from one computer to another computer. It is not related to your question.
You can't use iTunes to move song files from iPod to computer, except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download purchases). However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can move song files from iPod to computer. If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your current computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library by dragging the files (or folder containing the files) to the iTunes window. After confirming everything is there (and fixing the data issue you mentioned) you can sync the iPod. You may want to do a Restore on the iPod, if it might have a data corruption issue, which will erase the iPod's hard drive, re-install the latest software, and set it to defautl settings. -
AppleScript file path difficulties
I'm trying to create a script that will do two things: 1) check for the existence of certain files, and 2) move those files to the trash. I need to do #1 so that I can tell the user that a particular set of files was found and removed, and I need to do #2 using a shell script with admin privileges.
The code I've written so far works great, as long as I use absolute paths. As soon as I try to refer to the user folder using the tilde ('~') symbol, though, it all falls apart. Although I can hard-code the paths for the most part, I cannot hard-code the username.
How can I make this work for a path in the user's home folder? The code in question is below:
-- Given a list of path strings, returns a list of POSIX paths, quoted for use in shell scripts
on CreateQuotedPOSIXPathList(pathStrings)
set thePOSIXPaths to {}
repeat with thePath in pathStrings
set thePOSIXPaths to thePOSIXPaths & {quoted form of the POSIX path of thePath}
end repeat
return thePOSIXPaths
end CreateQuotedPOSIXPathList
-- Given a list of quoted-form POSIX file paths, moves all files in the set to the trash
-- Returns true if at least one file was found, false if none existed
on MoveFilesToTrash(fileList)
set someWereFound to false
repeat with oneFile in fileList
if exists oneFile then
set someWereFound to true
set theCommand to "mv " & oneFile & " ~/.Trash"
do shell script theCommand with administrator privileges
end if
end repeat
return someWereFound
end MoveFilesToTrash
set fileList to {"/Users/thomas/Desktop/test", "/Users/thomas/Desktop/test file"}
set pathList to CreateQuotedPOSIXPathList(fileList)
MoveFilesToTrash(pathList)Here:
-- Given a list of path strings, returns a list of POSIX paths, quoted for use in shell scripts
on CreateQuotedPOSIXPathList(pathStrings)
set thePOSIXPaths to {}
repeat with thePath in pathStrings
set thePOSIXPaths to thePOSIXPaths & {quoted form of the POSIX path of thePath}
end repeat
return thePOSIXPaths
end CreateQuotedPOSIXPathList
-- Given a list of quoted-form POSIX file paths, moves all files in the set to the trash
-- Returns true if at least one file was found, false if none existed

How can I move mp3 files from trash to iTunes?
I accidently moved a group of MP3 files (songs) from my iTunes to the trash. After doing a little research, I saw the suggestion of creating a folder on my desktop and dragging them from the trash to the new desktop folder. So, I did that, and as far as I can tell, the songs are all there, sitting in the folder. But when I tried to drag the songs from the desktop folder to iTunes, I got this message:
"Attempting to copy the disk Macintosh HD failed. You do not have enough access privaleges for this operation."
This makes no sense to me. This is my private computer so I should have all the privaleges I need to do anything, right? And I'm not trying to copy the "disk Macintosh HD", right?
Anyway, can you help me move the songs back into iTunes--or to the podcast so I can then move them to iTunes? FYI, the songs have names like, "download 124.mp3" and the Kind is "mp3 Audio." I originally got these songs via a podcast from a radio station (KCRW). I have iTunes 11.1.1.
Thanks!ed2345,
Thanks! I did that and the songs are now back in my iTunes. Some of the songs went back to the podcast and some went to the playlist.
UNFORTUNATELY, the songs did some sort of massive duplicating so that there are now over 100 duplicates of every episode/song (the podcast now has almost 36,000 episodes/songs and the playlist now has over 24,000 episodes/songs), and iTunes is viery slow/sluggish (spinning beach ball). Can you tell me how to eleminate all of the duplicates? -
MOV, and MP3 files will not open in photoshop CS6
I'm studying Photoshop at home using Pearson's " Class in a Book", from Adobe. I'm now stuck in Chapter 10, editing Videos, because I cannot open two files needed to proceed with the next excercise. I'm not able to open 3 of the 9 files in Photoshop, even tried to drag, change format, etc. All the other files with formats like MP4 and JPG have no problem opening, only those with MP3 & MOV extensions. I Should note that I can open all the files directly from windows file explorer or using Bridge, through Quicktime. I need to open in Photoshop so I can do the exercises. Please can someone help me? Bellow, is the message i get when I try to move the file to Photoshop.

HI,
Need help and advises on why I can't move the converted mp3 files to my iTunes playlist. Was okay with my old dell notebook.
it keep show ' link' when I drag the file to the playlist but can't click in...
please help !!,Hi rachel65,
From your description, it sounds like you are prompted to "link missing files" when attempting to modify/move certain items. iTunes has lost track of the actual song file that is on your computer, and we'll need to instruct iTunes on where this file is located. The following information will assist you in tracking down these missing files:
iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads

If you can't find your media, you may be able to download it again if you originally purchased it from the iTunes Store:

Hi there,
I have a Nokia 5200, but don't have the PC Suite installed as I have an adaptor to plug the Micro SD straight into the PC, so I don't have all the folders set up on my memory card.
Could somebody please tell me the file path I need to copy MP3s into to listen to them on the Music Library?
Thanks!Can anyone help on this - I just need to know what folder MP3s are stored in on the SD card - is it 'Music', 'MP3'? And is it in any other folders? Would be v. grateful for a response.

Obtaining the full file path specification from Flash Movie and QuickTime icons?
How do you obtain the full file path specification from Flash
Movie and QuickTime icons? I want the path and the file name that
is contained in these icons. I am using a "dive" to run through the
icons of a file, and when I come upon these two types of icons, I
want to obtain the above information that is contained in them. I
certainly can look in the property dialog box to get this info, but
there are many icons in these files, and I want to generate a list
of info based upon the various types of icons that I am processing.

For Flash
Trace(GetIconProperty(iconID, #pathName))
for QuickTime

For full scripting reference for each of these sprites, open
up the
Properties panel for each sprite and press the Help button

Where does time machine store content that would be found in the Finder window under "All Images, All Movies, All Documents"? Also, I have many Garageband projects and mp3 files I can't find.
Easiest way to find time machine files is to open up the folder or application(works for email and iphoto) they were in - then click on time machine ICON or enter time machine from the time machine menu to go back through the files.

Question re: moving iTunes library to new computer where files have different file path?
Hi everyone-
I just got a new laptop and need to transfer my iTunes library to the new computer.
On my old computer, the hard drive was partitioned into a "C" drive and an "F" drive. The new laptop is just "C."
Since my iTunes library was on the "F" partition on the old laptop, the file path for all the files is going to change when I transfer to the new laptop.
I can find dozens and dozens of articles online about how to move iTunes to a new computer, but none of them seem to address the file path issue.
Does anyone know where I can find detailed instructions on how to make this work?
Thanks in advance.Quit iTunes.
Move the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder to the F: drive.
Hold Shift & launch iTunes.
Select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder you moved to the F: drive.
Everything should still work fine.
Now go to iTunes prefs > Advanced.
Set the iTunes media folder location to the iTunes folder you just moved to the F: drive.
iTunes menu File > Library > Consolidate library.
This will copy all your media into the iTunes folder (F:\iTunes\iTunes media\ folder)
Let it finsh.
Quit iTunes.
Then you can copy the F:\iTunes\ folder to the new computer.
If you copy it to /Music/ folder, just start iTunes and it'll work.
If you copy it elswhere (such as another drive) hold Shift, launch iTunes, select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder. -
How to move mp3 files from NOMAD ZEN JUKEBOX to PC???
Hello there!
I have the creative nomad extra jukebox zen 30gb player. I have big trouble to move my mp3 to my pc! Is there any way to do this? I can do it with sync but some of the songs have the same name ( 0,02,03) and even when those songs are in folders,the software ( media source) dont recognize it this way-so it will skip the ones with same name and Ill loose some of the tracks. Is there any other way to move it all? or also to choose only certain mp3 files to be moved other software maybe? thank you very much!Part numbers beginning with P are usually promotion items.
You can buy a stack of 'em & give to employees, grand openings, etc.
They are the same as regular retail iPod, just a different model number. http://www.apple.com/ipod/imaging/
Looks like you have a black, 30GB video iPod.
Here's a great place to start to learn how to use iTunes and the iPod.
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod101/
I went to preferences and set the music file address to the folder which contains all of my MP3 files. I
That will tell iTunes to use this folder. iTunes does not "watch" this folder to see if anything is added. You have to add it to the library yourself and iTunes will put it in this folder under Artist -> Album.
If you IMport a file, it will convert it to the format set in teh iTUnes prefs. If you Add a file, it will simply add it to the library in the format it already is.
To get music into iTunes;
- insert a CD and select Import.
- click on iTunes Music Store and purchase songs.
- go to iTunes menu - File -> Add (Folder or file) to library and select the file/folder.
- Drag songs onto iTunes.
To get music onto the iPod;
- Plug it in.
Yeah, it really is that simple.
Easiest way to manage your library is to use iTunes.
Edit the ID3 tags, add delete songs and put them onto the iPod.
