MOV, and MP3 files will not open in photoshop CS6

I'm studying Photoshop at home using Pearson's " Class in a Book", from Adobe. I'm now stuck in Chapter 10, editing Videos, because I cannot open two files needed to proceed with the next excercise. I'm not able to open 3 of the 9 files in Photoshop, even tried to drag, change format, etc. All the other files with formats like MP4 and JPG have no problem opening, only those with MP3 & MOV extensions. I Should note that I can open all the files directly from windows file explorer or using Bridge, through Quicktime. I need to open in Photoshop so I can do the exercises. Please can someone help me? Bellow, is the message i get when I try to move the file to Photoshop.
"Could not complete your request beacuse the video file could not be open"

"Recovered" CR2 files will not open in Photoshop CS6

My son recently completed the National Three Peaks Challenge. Regrettably, having taken loads of pictures, he discovered that one of the CF cards was corrupt. He and his fellow climbers have now paid a company (a considerable sum) to recover these photos and they are all showing as CR2 files. Unfortunately, neither Photoshop or any other program that he has (including Preview) will not open them. The images from the uncorrupted files are fine.
As you can imagine, he is desperate to get these images back so if anyone has any bright ideas as to where we go from here we would really appreciate it. Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for your suggestion, normfb, which I passed on to my son. He has come back with the following answer -
"Tried the DNG converter, didn't even recognise there was a file in the folder I told it to look in!
The issue is that no programs be it Photoshop, that DNG converter, Lightroom or Preview are able to recognise that file format."

D800 RAW files will not open in Photoshop CS6

I have just installed the CS6 upgrade to Photoshop CS4 Extended, but now the software will not read the RAW files from my D800.
I have followed Adobe's instructions to check that I have the correct RAW plug-in (7.0.0.308) which I have. I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled the software without success. I do not want to convert my RAW files into DNG files, so I have ignored that step.
The 'Open in Photoshop' instruction in Lightroom 4 does not open my D800 RAW files either, although the files can be opened in Lightroom 4 OK.
Any idea what the problem is?

Brilliant! ACR 7.1 Beta allows D800 RAW files to be opened within CS6 and it also allows Photoshop 4 to open D800 RAW files in Photoshop CS6.
It says that the Beta version will expire on 30/6/2012 after which it will keep advising on a daily basis although it will still work. Any idea, what happens next? Does Adobe issue a proper ACR 7.1 and distribute it as part of the update service?

Freehand can't convert EPS files into editable vectors. I
usually run
EPS files through Illustrator and then into Frehand. If you
don't have
Illustrator you can convert the EPS into a PDF and that
Freehand will
sometimes convert into editable vectors (though it does

I am a student working on a project that I started in university on an Apple Mac desktop. I decided to carry my project back home to continue with it on a laptop which is Windows...however the Mov. files will not open up on premeire pro and it is really frustrating as I have done a lot of work. Cannon 7D mark II has been included in the ACR 8.7. I would advise you to wait for the 8.7 camera raw to release.
In the meanwhile you can go to labs.adobe.com and download the 8.7 DNG converter and convert the files to DNG and then try to import.

Batch Rename and now files will not open

i hope someone can help me. i moved some .dng files from an external drive to my mapbook pro using batch rename in bridge CS5. The files moved to my desktop ine, but now they will not open. When I try to open them the digital convertor opens up. When I try to open them in photoshop it says it is a unrecognized format. They were fine ten minutes ago in bridge. does anyone have anything they can have me try? I am depserate to get these images printed up tonight and I don't have time to edit them again.

You probably forgot to include the extension .dng or renamed with an extra dot (.) in the filename. Be surr to have only 1 dot with the three letter extension dng at the end (. dng)
You can use Bridge for that again to rename and use the dng extension

Hi, I am currently experiencing the same issue as you, and its driving me crazy. I know how you feel.
All my images in LR are basically dead. I can see them, but I cant work on them. Its as though LR5 is dead on my PC.
I use NEF too, some of them have asked me to change the file extension to a DNG. I have yet to try it, coz for the past 2hr, I have failed to 'Back up' my da** LR catalog.
I wish that you solve your issue soon.

Lightroom 5.5 files will not open in Photoshop 2014

Hi. Just updated Lightroom to 5.5, and Photoshop to CC 2014, using the CC updater. Now, when in Lightroom, Command E, or the menu selection, will not open my files in Photoshop. Any ideas?

Re: mp3 files will not open or play in iTunes

I received these files on a cd from a friend. They are lectures by the Dalai Lama at Harvard. They will play fine with RealPlayer, but when I try to play them on iTunes, I get the spinning beach ball and must force quit.
Any help would be appreciated.

Are you positive they are in mp3 format? Try using MediaInfo Mac and get the codec description. It should say MPEG Layer III or something similar.
Will the files play in Quicktime?
iTunes has been known to not play some mp3 files, but we should ascertain first these are definitely mp3. If they truly are then sometimes the free utility MP3 Scan+Repair has been known to fix issues.

Nikon NEF Files will not Open in Photoshop CS2

In OS Leopard w/Aperture 2, there was never a problem opening RAW .NEF Files.
Now with Snow Leopard and Aperture 3...I get a message that the format is unrecognizable.
My system and PS2 are fully updated to current versions.

You are correct in the RAW decoding engine used in Camera Raw (would be version 3.x in the CS2).
As you know, Adobe Camera Raw is included with each new release of Photoshop since CS came about. However, they generally only update the current version of ACR for new camera models.
The work-around (Adobe solution) for using older versions of ACR / PS is to convert the RAW files to DNG files using their free Adobe DNG converter, which allows compatibility for newer camera models (same solution offered to many with new unsupported cameras in Aperture).
Not sure whether this is the problem for the OP though, as the opening sentence indicates successful use with AP2 and 10.5?
Note - not sure what Adobe will do overall with Lightroom updates as they have been offering those at the same time as the ACR updates. LR3 and CS5 should clear some of this up.

All my After Effects projects show as opening with Acrobat and I cannot change them to open with After Effects, and these were created with AE CS6.
Any ideas?

Ok simple easy idiot proof method. Go to
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS5.5\Support Files
Rename AfterFX.exe to AfterFX.exe.org or anything will do to make it a non.exe file. Then click on any .aep file. Windoze will say can't find AE CS5.5 and it will then allow go to the dialog window where you can change it to open with AE CS6. Check the always open with this app box and you're done. Go back and rename the changed CS5.5 file to AfterFX.exe and you're back to normal with all future .aep files to open in CS6.
Same process with any version of AfterFX.exe Windoze may have locked you in to.
