Material Number should be based on Material Group

Hi Experts,
I have a Requirement in MM01 the material number should be depends on material
Group . The material number should generate base on material group.
Is there Any BADI / Exit For this.

When i try to create a new material master (with only numbers)on the above material type, the system throwing " For the specific material type, external matl no should not contain purely numbers".

check while mentioning number range have u entered any alphabet in from and to filed
i.e from A to ZZZ then system will ask u to add atlease 1 alphabet
if u use 1000000000 1000099999 as external number range then u can use only numerical numbers in number range

List of material number with PO text from material master

I want to get a list of materials number with PO text from material master. Can anybody help ?

The purchase order texts maintained in the material master are stored
as SAPScript text files in tables STXH (header) and STXL (lines). For
material master records:
Field TDOBJECT = 'MATERIAL'
Field TDNAME = material number (MARA-MATNR).
So you should be able to write a small report to extract the data.

Two customer material number assignment for 1 Master material.

In customer material info records its a one on one mapping, ie for every master material there can be only one cutsomer material number.
Is it possible to assign two different customer material numbers for one sap material.
The requirement is for 1 material users wants to keep two customer material info records which can be used in diff scarios as per the requirement.

Yes possible, provided that's for 2 different customers.
You can have 2 customer material numbers for same customer / same material.
Same material can have more than 1 customer material numbers, for different customer.

Emergent!! Two alternative material number for one same real material???

Hi Experts
In our company,for some specail requirement,we want to have two material numbers for one same real
material,that means this two materials are substitute for each other. In every transaction, we can
use this both two material numbers.
For example,material number "A123 " and "B456" , these two material numbers are for one real
material, In every transaction we can use "A123 " or "B456".For exmaple ,we can create and release
a production order to produce"A123",and when doing goods receive for this produciton order with
MB31,we could use"B456" for the same production order. And also when we view the stock for "A123" in SAP,we could get the the sum stock of "A123" and "B456".
Is it possible in SAP? How to achieve it that one real material have two different material number??
And how to manage these two different material number??

The requirement can't be absolutely mapped in SAP.
The reason is the logic behind this is wrong.
May we know why do you want to maintain two separate codes for one real material?
We have option of batch management as well as split valuation to take care of your requirement.
Evaluate these things.

I am having a r/3 ecommerce scenario.
I have a requirement that when a customer enters EAN number for a material in frontend , the material should be determined automatically.
I have mantained the material determination record accordingly in r/3 and when I am creating a order in r/3 and entering the EAN number in material field, it automatically substitutes the EAN with the material maintaied in condition record.
What settings do I do , so that the same works in frontend?

Material number for chemical with different packing sizes

A same chemical that we purchase from supplier can be in 25Kg bag, 1000kg bag and 50 kg bag. When we receive the chemicals, the physical goods of the chemical are in 25 KG Bag, 1000kg Bag and 50Kg bag store in the warehouse.
When we sell to customer, it can be in those 3 standard bag size or in KG depend the order quantity from customer.
For the above Chemical what is the best way to catalogue the material number, should it be 3 material numbers for the 3 different pack size, or 1 material number only?

you can have two solution for this with both pros & cons with one material master:
1. You can have three different unit of measure for 25KG, 1000KG & 50KG bag and you can maintain the relationship in the material master. This will help you to get the total stock in KG in your company and you can sell to the customer. Only problem is you will not be able to determine how much of each type of packaging you have.
2. You can define the material relevant for batch management. Create three batches 25KG,1000KG & 50KG, also create three different unit of measures as explained above. Now whenever you are doing the GR just put the material in correct batch, by doing this you can easily track you material along with the type of packaging. Also you can sell the material, while delivery you can use the functional of batch determination based on some log. Only problem is manual intervention which can be covered if you use some exit while doing GR so that correct batch is selected based on the Order Unit.

Is there a standard transaction and program that can be modified to print a label via material number?
The details to be printed on the label are:
Material Number and Barcode (based on material number)
Storage Bin
Material Description
Supplier name
Manufacturer part number
PO number and line item number
GRN date

For label printing, steps in transaction OMCF can be maintained.
Output Type WEE1 uses sap print program SAPM07DR.
Can the following data fields be retrieved from this program:
Material Number (MSEG-MATNR)
Bin Number (MSEG-LGPLA)
Material Description (Feed (MAKT-MATNR) Get (MAKT-MAKTX))
Supplier Name: Feed (MSEG-MBLNR) get (MSEG-EMLIF)
MSEG-EMLIF=LFA1-LIFNR
Feed (LFA1-LIFNR) get (LFA1-NAME1)

How to modify material number in MM01

Hi Guru,
I want to modify material number in MM01 according to the material group selected by the user. For example if material group 100 is selected, the material number should be 100xxxxx, 200 is selected, number should be 200xxxxx. I tried coding in user exit MGA00001, everything is fine except the classification view was not updated by the generated material number. How can I achieve this?

Consignment material number problem

Please help
It was noticed the material number 2000XXXX was keyed as consignment which was wrong.
The right consignment material number should have been Z03520553 and I would appreciate if someone let me know on hot to make a change to reflect on Z03520553 and maintain 20007890 as normal stock.

The material number does not decide whether the material is a consignment material. If this is the case in your company, then it is just an internal rule, a kind of policy, which seems not even be supported by a user exit, otherwise you would not have the problem that you have.
The process defines if a material is used for consignment, e.g. the item category in the purchase order and the info record type
for sales process it is the sales order type and its item category.
Based on this info you should be able to tell exactly at which point you have a "wrong" material number.
in case of purchasing info record ýou need to flag the info record for deletion and then you can archive it.

How do I get to identify a material number,when its item category is known?
In other words, how to get a material nmbr, using its item category?

Material number is determined based on the material type and not by the item category. You can check the number ranges assigned to Material types in MMNR transaction. please click on groups to see the details.
Item category is determined by the order type and the item category group (assigned in the material master). Check the assignmnets in VOV4.

Changing material number when Process Order is released

Hello,
We have a scenario in which the material number of a process order may need to be changed after the process order is released. We will have both in process and post production inspection types assigned to this order, and both inspection lots are created at process order release. We also will have a batch number created at process order release.
When recording test results in the inspection lot before a process order has been confirmed, the users may identify that the material number should be different. We would like a way to be able to either change the material number in the process order (and inspection lots). We know this involves a lot of updates (master data changes to the existing process order and inspection lots). Currently, there is no way to transfer information to a new material number without receiving product in and performing a usage decision in the post production inspection lot to transfer to a new material number.
The client has implemented all modules, except PP (which we are in the process of now). We know that Variant Configuration would have been the right solution for this, but this is not an option since MM is already implemented.
If you have any suggestions, please reply.

The exact scenario is as follows:
1. A semi finished good will be used as a component to produce the finished good.
2. This semi finished good will have treatments added to it, and quality inspection will be performed as treatments are added.
3. Inspections will occur several times as treatments are added. If during one of these inspections, material is out of spec, and the blend should be transferred to another material number, we need to be able to change to another material number. To have a customization where material number is changed in all of the relevant PP and QM tables seems risky.
This is why we can't really use material classification. We also do not have the option to use VC bc the MM module is already implemented.

Material number suffixing with ! for some material in material master

Hi Friends,
We have uploaded material master data with BDC . but for some of materials contain ! sign at the end of the material number. Means , at the 18th charecter ! is appearing. but it does not appear in mm03 while displaying. and even while finding it from MARA if we put material number without ! sign then we can possible to get that material. and it does not allow us to crate material with same material number withought ! sign.
But if while creating material if we put material with ! at the 18th charecter it creates material with ! sign but while searchig from MARA if you dont put ! sign with material number we can not get that material as output and if we create other material without ! sign it allows to create the material.
Please can you tell me what is the reson why ! is getting added at the end of material number ... do any1 of you have faced the same kind of situation and found for what reason it is coming....

Hi,
This is due to config. In our case whenever we enter 8 digit number for Eg:
12345678 material will be created as 1234.5678 a dot will appear after every 4 digits.
But when we actually look at mara we wont find the dot (.) .
We can do this by config by setting perfix and sufix to the material number. actually these characters will not be stored in DB.
It will be shown in output when the function module CONV_EXIT_MATN1_OUTPUT runs.
check config in OMSL transaction.
In TMCNV table check field TEMPLATE it will have the template how the material number should be in our case its ____.____

Have to maintain a specific number apart from material number in MMR

HI All,
We have a specific number(X) for some materials that we want to enter in a material master, and when we create a sales order that number(X) along with material number should populate in sales order.
is there any field provided by sap to fulfill this requirement.

There is no standard SAP fields provided to handle your requirements in the material master.
You may need to use any of the unused fields in the material master. Following options I could think of;
1) Use of Old material number field (MARA-BISMT). But this field will not flow into sales order. You may go with an enhancement to add this field in the sales order -> item level.
2) Use of basic text or sales text from the material master. You need to add addtiional text type in sales order -> item text level in t.code VOTXN. By this way, when a number is maintained in the material master text field, this will automatically gets copied into sales orders.
3) Use of EAN/UPC field (MEAN-EAN11) field. I am not in favor of using this field as this may be needed in other purposes like electronic transmission of data with government entites. If this field is not used in your business, you can think of this also.
Using any of the above may eventually need development of customized report for your final reporting requirement. I am not sure whether any standard report will provide the details on what you are looking for.

I had a question regarding material numbers on PR/PO - It seems like material number is mandatory for some material groups and not for others. Can anyone tell me about that?
