Matt Wright's "formmail" script

If anyone here is familiar with Matt Wright's "formmail"
script, how do I
get it to pull the recipient info from a form field instead
of having to
hard code one into a hidden field?

I am in fact using v.1.6, but still need to know how to make
it pick the
recipient info from a form field . . .

  • Domain name, host name - what goes where?

So to clear the pipeline and reduce the amount of configuration, I decided to get rid of my router and plug my server directly into the modem, thus using the server as the gateway/router for other computers in my home. Hopefully this will eliminate the need for an internal/private network DNS configuration as well as an external/public DNS configuration.
I have a registered public domain name of N.com and an associated public MX record for this domain which is also named N.com (as opposed to mail.N.com or something similar).
I reinstalled the Leopard Server software and when the setup asked for a "primary DNS name" I named it N.com (the same name as my registered public domain). I went into firewall settings in the Server Admin and "allowed"/opened port 25 as well as 80 for email and web services respectively.
When I looked in the Mail settings the default domain name is "localdomain" and the default hostname is N.com (the same as my registered public domain). Default user addresses are [email protected] I have no problem seeing the server's webpages from the internet, but I still cannot get any mail from the internet to show up in my user accounts.
What more do I need to do?

    an educated guess-
does the client's email system have something like Spam
    Assassin filtering
    incoming mail?
is this cgi script matt wright's formmail?
If yes to both- Spam Assassin is rating the formmail
    generated email as spam
based on the subject line and default first line of text in
    the message
    body.
    A fix-
    1) hand edit the formmail script, find and change:
Below is the result of your feedback form
    to any other text
    2) use the optional field to change the subject line from the
    default.

  • Include type scripts for validating forms

    hello,
I'm new to AIF, but to internet development. here is my question.
I have a template of a form that our HR department use in 94 different variations.
I will use the AIF with the form and data merging to be presented to the end-user. they will have the ability to fill online or download with fill option.
My concern is the client side validation for each form variation. Is there a way to include a client side script file to eliminate an unique form for each variation or having the specific script in each form.

my guess- the recipient email address is using spam assassin
    or a similar
filter. It's seeing the default first line of the email and
    giving it two
points on it's rating system thinking it's the old matt
    wright formmail 1.6
    script.
the fix- if it's a script you installed and can touch and
    modify, is to edit
the script so it's got a different first line in the body of
    the email.
If it's a host installed system wide script you can't touch-
    install your
own like nms-formmail or phpformmail (and edit the first line
    of the
    outgoing email's body text)
This is the line to search for in the script:
Below is the result of your feedback form. It was submitted
    by
change it to something else. Watch out for any characters you
    might need to
escape in that scripting language like ' when making the
    edit.
further sluthing- ask the client to send you the full source
    of the incoming
email, or the email that's been sent to their spam box so you
    can see the
email headers. Spam Assassin put it's scores in the header
    and you can see
    why it's been trashed.

    results of the form are

  • Mystery - One scripts folder works - the other doesn't

I've been using some of Doug's great iTunes scripts <http://dougscripts.com/itunes/> for a couple of years, but the following unsolved mystery is driving me nuts:
According to his ReadMe files (and other documentation), there are two locations where iTunes scripts can be placed:
    (1) user name > Library > iTunes > Scripts
    or
    (2) user name > Library > Scripts > Applications > iTunes
Doug's scripts even come with an installer that places scripts in location #1. My problem is that _*no matter what I do, scripts that I place in location #1 do not show up in the Script Menu._* (Of course I mean when iTunes is the frontmost application.)
Scripts in location #2 work fine -- so that's where I always place mine -- but there are advantages to location #1, such as (a) assigning keyboard shortcuts to scripts via System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse, and (b) Doug's installers, which I can't use; so I always have to install my scripts manually.
Frustrated, I've simply accepted this for some time now. But after installing some new scripts recently, this issue is nagging me, once again. Hence this post.
What could possibly be preventing location #1 from working for me, when it apparently works fine for others?

Create and log in into a new account.
    Install a doug script.
    Launch 'iTunes'.
View the menu items of the 'iTunes' script menu.
If you see and can execute the doug script, via 'iTunes' script menu, you verified a problem specific to your origianl user account.
If so, consider booting from the installation disc, and perform a 'Disk Utility' 'Repair Disk' action.
Log in into the original account and see if the 'iTunes' script menu is now functional.
If either - the new account and / or 'Repair Disk' suggestion(s) fail - consider the new Mac way (originally a 'Windoze' only way) to resolve System level problems - reinstall MacOS X, and enjoy the time spent updating MacOS X.

  • Formmail.pl issue

I have a Flash form connected to a formmail.pl script. The
formmail opens a new generic thank you page. Does anyone know how
to stop this or otherwise suppress the perl's redirect?
    Thanks

first- check with this site's Hosting.
most commercial hosts will have a pre-installed version of a
    formmail script
    all set up.
if your site has a control panel or CPanel, look there.
If the hosting can use PHP scripting, i can give you quick
    instructions on a
much less fussy script to set up.
    beyond that-
    http://www.scriptarchive.com/download.cgi?s=formmail&c=txt&f=README
step up to the plate and take a swing.
    Read.
If specific questions then ask them.

  • CGI script for forms

    Hi,
I have to add form elements to my help topics for getting
feedback from users. This requires a CGI script to recognizes the
form elements. While I understand that this is primarily the job of
a developer, can anyone help me with a reusable script so that I
    can work on my own.
    Thanks much!

    Try
    here.. I think the
"FormMail" script is the one you need.

  • What CGI scripts are recommended for form2email?

My site is on register.com. I'm trying to use a script from form2email.net which was recommended by that host. The Dreamweaver code for the form looks fine to me. The script (written in Perl) executes, goes to a thank_you page, sends an email with correct from, to and subject. But the body of the email has no data except for the value of the submit button and info the script adds to any email it sends. I modified the script for my app using Notepad ++, changing only user-specified fields that had to be changed. I'd appreciate thoughts on what might be wrong, or a recommendation for a form2email script that works well with Dreamweaver.
register.com says they can't help with "coding problems," though they recommended the script, and I couldn't find help for my problem at the developer's site.

Why do you have 2 form tags on your HTML file?
The reason why you're getting just 'Submit: [Send]' in your e-mail is because you're closing your actual form before your 'submit' button and starting another form just for the 'submit' button.
Your formmail script interprets the only value is your '[send]' and it just parses that as an e-mail to you.
    Change your code this way:
       <form action="http://www.advocatesforclassicalmusic.org/cgi-bin/docentreq.pl" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data" name="DocentRequest" id="DocentRequest">

  • Formmail Problem Solved!

    Hello
Many thanks to kglad for advice on this problem to get Formmail to return an email from forms submitted.
I am posting this as the forms now work not due to errors in actionscript on the the Flash side but error of two key variables on the server side that have to be changed within the Formmail CGI script. THIS IS CRITICAL.
As those who are novices know understanding the README notes of Formmail is a nightmare of strange language! It takes some deciphering in to English!
So if you are getting the ERROR RECIPIENT IS INVALID/IN ERROR message when trying to work your form submission tests you need to get the Formmail script across from the server and upon it up in GoLive to adjust the the two variables. This is to achieve a simple return of information submitted to just one email address, what the average punter wants on their small business site. Change variables to :
    @recipient = ('[email protected]');
    @referers = ('yourdomain.com');
It is well worth reading the README notes of course to learn more:
    http://www.scriptarchive.com/readme/formmail.html#recipients
This will help a lot of people I believe. Hope this helps, it worked for me anyway. I would be interested to hear any reactions to this posting and your thoughts.
    Best
    Pete

  • FormMail thankyou page help

    Hi,
I've made this contact form on a website
    http://www.controlshop.co.uk/Contact/ContactForm.html
and I thought I'd done it so that when it is submitted the user is
    redirected to this page
    http://www.controlshop.co.uk/thankyou.htm
It's fine on this computer (the one I designed the site on
and used to upload it) however when I try it on another computer in
the office, I get a generic "Thank you" page that the script
produces itself. This wouldn't be a problem but there is no
"Return" button or anything to get back to my site (just the "Back"
button on the browser window, which isn't ideal)
Anyone figure out why it's doing this?
I've uploaded it all, when I test it on mine it's using the
hosted files/site, not just accessing the ones on my
    computer.

    I can't remember.
It was just a plain "Thank you for submitting this form" with
a review of what was sent, and a link to the site of the person who
    wrote the Formmail script.
It seems to be ok here now as well, perhaps it was just a bit
slow to work once it was uploaded. Thought I'd given it enough
time, all other changes had taken place.

  • FormMail access problem

I have a response form at
    http://www.faeriesbyleeca.co.uk/contact.htm
    which returns the error:
QUOTE The page you are looking for cannot be displayed
because an invalid method (HTTP verb) was used to attempt access.
    UNQUOTE
I've checked that the formmail script is configured exactly
as the hosts, 1AND1, require, but no joy. Anyone got any ideas
    please?
    Ian

Thanks Jasan. I've just got off the line with 1AND1, the
hosts, and have been told that the account is an MS Home type
account and FormMail doesn't work and isn't meant to!! They advise
I should use ASP Mail - so that is the next adventure - Ho Humm

  • What kind of pearl script would I need

I just uploaded my very first site online
(urbaninkdesigns.com) and I am trying to use the formmail script
for my contact page. Problem is that I am using a free web host and
its not allowed unless I upgrade (no cgi-bin directory). so I am
trying get around this issue by using a script that will just send
the submitted information web users fillout on form straight to my
email since I dont have a cgi-bin directory on my server. What
script would I use to accomplish this. any advice would be helpful.
    thanks in advance

That would be a master-detail relation 1-* between 'entity' and 'entity dates'. If your dba has set up the foreign key association in the db and you use the wizard to create the business objects, jdev pick up the relation and create the correct master detail relation in the vo layer for you.
By the way naming a table 'entity' is not a good idea when working with ADFbc. We all talk about entities when we relate to a business object (in this case a row of a table or entity object or EO). So it's hard to distinguish the two, your specific table 'entiyt' and the common term entity or EO which can be a row of any table.

  • ASP Formmail that works

I am looking for a good formmail script that will work with
ASP. I found one that I thought would work, tweeked it to fit my
needs, but found out it doesn't work with Firefox or Opera. The asp
    script I found was at
    http://www.sortedsites.com

    >Yes, the form is here:
    >
    http://www.infoway.org/downloadableMedia/contact.asp
The problem is located somewhere in the email validation
routine. Note that it also fails in IE when the email address is
invalid (try test@test). I'll take a closer look when I have more
time later. You may also want to continue looking for another
script - I always write my own so I can't recommend any, but
formstogo might be a good option.

I haven't used  Matt Wright's scripts in this century, but I'm pretty sure that Perl still needs to go into your CGI bin and the permissions level (chmod) must be set to 755 or possibly 777 for the script to read, write & execute.

  • How to get a simple form to work

I am just trying to make a simple contact us form and can not
get it to work. I am uploading trial version of 8 but currently
    using dreamweaver 4.
I can do simple stuff, and made the form I need, but have no
idea how to get it submit to my e-mail. Can anyone help me? I host
with Godaddy and sked their tech support, but they have no idea how
to help me because dreamweaver isn't their product. Thank
    you!

To process your form there is really only 2 reliable ways to
    do this.
    1) Use some server language, like php, asp, cold-fusion.
    However since
you don't know any of those, neither do I for that matter,
    you need to
    concentrate on option 2.
    2) You need a ready-made script to process the data for you.
    One of the
most popular ones is 'formmail' You can read about it, how to
    set it up
and download the script at the below address.
    http://www.scriptarchive.com/formmail.html
The basic information is you will probably have a folder on
    your server
    space called cgi-bin.
The formmail script needs to be uploaded to this folder but
    you will
need to configure the script first. The above address tells
    you how to
    do that.
Have a look on your server and see if you have a cgi-bin
    installed. If
you have have a look inside it. A lot of hosts already are
    using
'formmail' as a way for you to get results from your form.
You then point your form at the script in the cgi-bin. So
    your opening
form tag may look something like this:
    <form method="post" action="
    http://www.your_
    domain_name.com/cgi-bin/formmail.pl"
    name="Request_Details">
The form data is sent to the script in the cgi-bin, processed
    and
returned to you at your email address.

  • HRMS API 'hxc_tpd_end.retrieve_missing_time_periods' query

There are global tables like g_time_periods, I would like to know if we can invoke SRW.USER_EXIT (‘FND SRWINIT’); from a plsql package in order to access and initialize this table.
hxc_tpd_end.retrieve_missing_time_periods is extracting some data when running from reports but it is extracting NULL when executing from plsql package.
Can you kindly throw some light on it?
