Maverick slow Finder startup

After boot on finder I can't open Macintosh hd because the system load for another 30 second..... After this time all go well......
After upgrade in snow Leo the system are more fast to boot .....

Hello Ciccionet,
Thank you for your question.  It definitely can get frustrating when your Mac is running slowly.  I recommend reviewing the following article for an issue like this (the title of the article says Mountain Lion, but the steps apply to Mavericks too):

  • Slow Finder startup when not connected to network

I use a Linksys BEFW11S4 router/WAP for my home network. The Linksys connects my iMac (ethernet), iBook (wireless) and an Airport Express. I decided I would control my son's access to the internet by using the Linksys router software, which is password-protected, to enable or disable the network connection.
However, I'm finding that when the network connection is disabled, the Finder loads very slowly upon startup. The dock appears fairly quickly, but a color pinwheel spins for a couple of minutes before the Finder menu bar, desktop file and volume icons and any windows I've left opened appear on the desktop. When the network connection is enabled, startup occurs normally . This situation occurs whether I'm on the iMac or the iBook.
Does anyone know a reason for this behavior?

I talked to Linksys technical support, and they told me this behavior was normal. As long as my computers are connected to the router, they will hunt for an Internet connection on startup. (I found this was true even when I physically disconnected my DSL modem from the outer.) It seems that the lengthy delay in getting the Finder loaded is unavoidable in that case. Good work, Jase!

  • IMac slow on startup after installing Mavericks

    Hi,
Like others I have been experiencing my mid 2011 iMac being slow on startup (and a little slow after that). I've read a lot of threads about this and was wondering how to approach it.
I was already thinking of buying  more RAM ( I currently have 4GB) and updrading to Yosemite, does anyone think this may help rather than going through many diagnostic steps with Mavericks?
..... or am I likely to find myself back in the same position!
    Jon
P.S. i know the Apple site says no RAM is available for this model, but one of the more experienced posters supplied a link to a site which implies that there is.

    Hi there,
    Here's the report.
By the way, with just Firefox and Aperture open, here is a copy of my Activity Monitor:
The swap used seems to be a very recent thing, until a few days ago it read 0.
The slowness is after startup - things bounce in the dock and safari takes nearly 10 secs to open, but if the Mac has been on a little while, or if it's been on sleep, then things run ok. There are other things I have noticed like some of the Aperture functions being slower and a bit clunky - this seems to have a been a constant feature since I upgraded to Mavericks and upgraded Aperture to go with it.
Any help you can give is appreciated.
    Jon

  • Database slow on startup

    Hi,
I am a new administrator and am facing an issue with my Oracle 8.1.6 database.I have encountered a problem where somedays my Oracle becomes extemely slow after startup.Almost it goes into a hung kind of state wheneever any reports etc are accessed from the application. After waiting for abt half an hour or so everything goes back to normal.
Has anyone faced a similar kind of problem .Has it got something to do with the recovery process taking place during startup. Can you please help me find a solution to this.
    Regards,
    Dinesh

in order to be sure you may watch the operating system cpu, disk, memory and network load and catch the top consuming proceses - you can use sar iostat vmstat and netstat for unix -
After match them from v$ views to find out the sql query, what they are waiting etc. - you can use this query to identify what is going on behind -
    -- who is doing what
    SELECT sq.sql_text,
    se.status,
    se.username,
    se.osuser,
    se.terminal,
    se.machine,
    'ALTER SYSTEM KILL SESSION ''' || se.sid || ', ' || se.serial# ||
    ''' IMMEDIATE ;',
    se.sid,
    se.serial#,
    pr.spid,
    se.saddr,
    se.schemaname,
    se.program,
    se.logon_time,
    sq.hash_value,
    sq.address,
    sq.buffer_gets,
    sq.disk_reads,
    sq.executions,
    sq.fetches,
    sq.rows_processed,
    io.block_gets,
    io.consistent_gets,
    io.physical_reads,
    io.block_changes,
    io.consistent_changes,
    se.module,
    se.action,
    se.client_info,
    sw.event,
    sw.p1text,
    sw.p1,
    sw.p2text,
    sw.p2,
    pr.pga_used_mem,
    pr.pga_alloc_mem,
    pr.pga_freeable_mem,
    pr.pga_max_mem,
    'exec dbms_support.start_trace_in_session(' || se.sid || ', ' || se.serial# || ', ' ||
    'waits => TRUE' || ', ' || 'binds => TRUE);',
    'exec dbms_support.stop_trace_in_session(' || se.sid || ', ' || se.serial# || ');'
    FROM v$session se, v$sqlarea sq, v$process pr, v$session_wait sw, v$sess_io io
WHERE status IN ('ACTIVE', 'KILLED', ' INACTIVE', ' CACHED', ' SNIPED')
    AND se.sql_hash_value = sq.hash_value(+)
    AND se.sql_address = sq.address(+)
    AND se.paddr = pr.addr
    AND se.sid = sw.sid
    AND se.sid = io.sid
    ORDER BY sq.sql_text, se.username, se.schemaname, se.osuser, se.program, se.sid
You need to match the top consumer os processes' id with the "pr.spid" column, then you might look at the other columns of that row for details.
Also the database runs a number of jobs - backups, etc. these may be the problems.

  • MacBook Pro Very Slow at startup

For the last couple months, my MacBook Pro (running Mac OS X 10.6.5) has been incredibly slow at startup. It used to take seconds to go from shutdown to ready for use. Now it takes a few minutes. The computer also freezes up twice (with the spinning "rainbow" wheel icon) for anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple minutes the first time I open any program after startup.
The computer generally works normally after that. It wakes up from "sleep" quickly and doesn't have any hangups. It just seems to be messed up when starting up after a shutdown.
I'm fairly new to Macs and can't seem to find any kind of system diagnostic or hard drive scan utility on my system to run to check my system, which would be the first things I'd have done with a similar issue with a PC.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That indicates the HD is failing. Backup immediately while it's still working and take it in for repair. It's in your best interest to make an appointment at the Genius Bar, if you have never done this the link is noted below will get you started. Make sure you let them know what you have done and what error messages you have received.

  • Funky slow Finder behaviore

I have an MP3,1 which is working just fine. It is fast for my needs, and I have never really had a significant problem, until today...
In OSX (10.9.3) I suddenly experience a very very slow Finder...
It takes seconds to open up drives as well as folders... wth...
Funny thing is that if I login as my wife on the very same MP, there is absolutely no problems - fast as usual... I switch back to my login, and it is slow... And, it is only Finder action that is slow. Aperture, iTunes, Photoshop, all is fast as usual...
I haven't made any changes, and any software updates affect my wife as well.
Is there anything that is user specific which would affect OSX in this way?

I appreciate what you are saying, but the programs updated lately, wouldn't they be the same ones in my wife's account? And if one of these were screwing with the system, wouldn't that affect her account as well?

  • Mac slow on startup displaying colour wheel

Mac slow on startup displaying colour wheel.
Any ideas as to what may be causing this problem? My mac is only a few months old and is one of the latest models.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

The next time you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Slow finder start up at airport card boot

    Hi,
For some reason my macbook pro 17" is extremely slow at start-up, when it gets to the part where it's loading the airport and battery icon (after logging in as a user). Any internet related applications (ichat, safari, entourage) are also slow to start if I try it soon after booting up. I'm also having problems connecting to the internet via the airport. The signal is at full strength, but there is no internet connection. This was all working the day before yesterday, and when I plug in directly to the cable internet connection via ethernet, the internet works.
One other catch is that I'm in a foreign country and don't have any startup CDs/DVDs with me, and it would be cost-prohibitive for me to call applecare (which I'd really like to do!). Also couldn't figure out how to contact applecare via ichat (there are still some luddites among us, apologies). Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I've tried the following:
    SLOW FINDER:
Repair disk permissions - didn't seem to do much
Switching user accounts - same slowness with my other account
Downloading 10.4.9 update - problems downloading, says it sent the file to the trash and I can retrieve it and try again. Did that, but it didn't work.
    Resetting PRAM at start up
    AIRPORT:
    downloaded software updates
tried plugging directly into internet connection, and that works fine.
Read something about reseating the airport card but can't find instructions on how to do it for a Macbook Pro 17".

You should never let your hard drive get less than 15% empty. This number is an arbitrary number that most have found to be the maximum you can have and still have a relatively smooth riding system. That may not directly affect wireless internet, but the speed of caching for the browser gets harder as it has lack of space to write to when it gets too full. The speed of startup is also affected as caches are written when the startup happens.

  • Bearts Audio Control Pannel will not open. Get error message cannot find startup file

Bearts Audio Control Pannel will not open. Get error message cannot find startup file!
Downloaded and instaled up-date for IDT audio from driver up-date. After installation could no longer oppen Beats Audio Control Pannel.  Looked for download to re-install BEATS Audio but cannot find one.
    Any suggestions.
Sound works with IDT driver installed.
    Pavilion P7-1500Z

    Hi,
Try using Recovery Manager to reinstall the IDT HD Audio Driver ( this will also reinstall the Beats Audio interface ) - the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the document on the link below.
    Recovery Manager - Windows 8.
    Recovery Manager - Windows 7
After the reinstallation has completed, restart the PC.

  • "Save As" command with very slow Finder response in Tiger

Ever since upgrading to Tiger using the "Archive & Install" option, my applications have had very slow operation of the "Save As" command. The Finder takes a long time to open and display the Save As window with folders and file name etc. This has occurred on all of my computers - a PowerMac G5, an iMac G4 and a PowerBook G4. It has not changed with upgrades as far as 10.4.5. I have tried the following suggested in another post about slow Finder actions without success:
Refreshing and reblessing the following system files and the folder followed by reboot.
    1. /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache
    2. /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
    3. /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches/
Trashing the following files and a folder followed by reboot
    1. /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-xxxx.csstore
    2. /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-xxxxxx.csstore
    3. /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/
I have also deleted the /User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist file and rebooted.
Does anyone else have this problem and how do I solve it?
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Thank you Roger - this does seem to have solved the problem - my local Apple service people did not have an answer on this, so I'm grateful

  • Firefox 21 slow on startup, checked articles, dis all addins still slow ie is lightning fast on startup!

Firefox 21 is really slow on startup, I have disabled all addons, checked memory, optimized win 7, ran system mechanic but it is still slow, changed home page . IE 8.9.10 is lightning fast on startup.

A tad faster but still slow compared to IE 8,9,10 where it starts instantly.

  • Will installing OS X mavericks slow down my late-2007 macbook pro?

Will installing OS X mavericks slow down my late-2007 macbook pro? If so, is it worth it?
I currently run OSX 10.7.5 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb mem.

Does it meet the specs for Lion?
    Are your third apps compatible?
I'd also be sure to have at least 4GB RAM and 10-15% free space on your HDD.

  • FCE Slow, sluggish startup and freezes up?

We've been having some problems with Final Cut Express, it is very slow to startup(sometimes 15 minutes), and after it starts it sometimes locks up with the spinning rainbow wheel. We are running this basically on 12 machines and over half are having similar problems. We are running this on 2 year old G5 iMacs, running OSX 10.4.8 and Quicktime 7.1.5. I've reset the PRAM, and did an open firmeware reset and reinstalled the application, but it is still acting this way. Any idea's?

"it just seems to have problems when the Broadcast
class logs into that profile to use FCE that it is
real slow and we have problems."
Are these admin users? Are there restrictions on the
user? What are the restrictions? How much RAM is on
    the machines?
These are not admin users, but the profile I used that worked fast was an admin user. These users can't use most of the System Prefs, but have access to all of the space to save for the most part. The machines have 1gb of memory.
