Mavericks Calendar App - Location Services

The calendar app doesn't appear in the Location Services tab in Privacy under System Settings > Security & Privacy so I can't enable it to use things like Travel Time for meetings.  The only app listed is Maps.  How do i get other apps into Location Services?

In Calendar, have you set up View > Show Travel Time from the menu?
By the way, I have not only Maps and Celendar, but also Safari in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.  My guess is Safari got added because I used Find My Mac from Safari to locate my MacBook Air.

  • Calendar with Location Services enabled doesn't find locations

SSince updating to 8.1.2 calendar no longer shows locations and doesn't offer alarm when time to leave optio. Since updating to 8.1.2 I am unable to get Location Services working in Calendar. Location Services are enabled, but when entering a location into a Calendar event, it does not automatically find the location anymore (as it did on 8.1.1) and I do not get the Alert option of Time to Leave

or settings/general/restrictions then under privacy tap on location services.  scroll down and it will list apps and whether this service is on/off for particular apps

  • The Maverick Calendar App-Alert Option-to Open a File-stops working after a few days

The Maverick Calendar App, Alert Option, to Open a File works for a few days, than stops. The Calendar alert still triggers, but the reference to launching the other file disappears. Has anyone found and solved this problem?
This Calendar, Open File Option, worked fine without error in 10.8 and earlier, but I was only given the option to launch an Apple Script.

  • Even with restrictions on location services for icloud turn off

I have been on the forums a b-jillion times looking up this same question. Our phones (hubs and I 4 and 4s) continually turn off the "find my iphone" bit in location services. I have locked it in restrictions after turning it on-passcode locked it. I have tried everything multiple times and yet it still happens on both of our phones, though his more than mine! Now my phone is gone and I put an erase order in almost immediately as it was taken out of my car. It says it will happen the next time it is connected to the internet. I check icloud often...nothing. Then, fifteen days later someone is using my facebook acct! It still doesn't show up on icloud as ever erasing or connecting to the internet!! What the.....?

Hi there I was having the same issues myself an I know it can be a pain because its a real battery drainer. The tip I have that worked for me is I went to location services and one by one I turned off each individual apps location service until the arrow went off so I was able to quickly find the app that was causing the issues (allow about 5 or so seconds between each app after you turn if off) after you find the bad app you can go into that apps settings to try to fix it. Or for me the app never stopped searching my location even with the app fully closed. ( so I deleted the app ) I hope this tip helps out

  • Location Services vs. Time Zone Settings

i am being given advice to turn OFF Settings > Date and Time > Time Zone Tab > "Set Time Zone Automatically using Current Location" - presumably so that when i travel all my events stay at the time that i set them to. for instance in the case of a return airline flight, so that the alerts will alert me at the correct time.
right now - i think - that if the Time Zone updates and i am traveling east (say from CST to EST) then the phone changes all my appointments in Calendar and they all show up an hour LATER than when i originally set them. this way i miss my flight.
however, i am not sure if there are consequences to this.
also, i can't tell if i should also change the Settings > Date and Time > Date and Time Tab > and UNCHECK "Set Date and Time Automatically".
also, i am getting uber confused between the settings on my phone as compared to those on my MBP or on Calendar. Location Services i think is a iPhone specific setting whereas Calendar > Preferences > Advanced > "Turn on TIme Zone Support"
anyone licked this so that it all works?

    hi braden.
i have tried this "empirically" a couple of times by traveling to another time zone but i was basically testing to see if i can get this to work. the first time i did this i did not get the alert that i set because something had gotten adjusted and the time of my event that i had set had gotten "pushed back" - i think basically due to the time change between CST and EST. this is a problem since when i travel it is helpful to have the alerts on my phone. right now i am having a hard time figuring out why it would not be the case - given the explanation in your tech articles - that this won't happen again if these settings are on. conversely, if i turn oen or both of them OFF - it is not clear to me what the consequences are.
there is such as thing as a "floating" event which is supposed to (i think) alert at any time zone at the time that you SET the event - so that it does not ADJUST based upon your traveling to a new time zone. however, there appears to be a lot of confusion as to whether this works and/or to what extent it has limitations.
for instance, is this a viable way to get calendar to work across time zones? i mean, the articles you helpfully post don't seem to address how this works from a practical perspective.
    here are my settings.
    MBP:
Settings > Date and Time > Date and Time Tab > Set Date and Time Automatically (currently set to ON)
Settings > Date and Time > Time Zone > Set Time Zone Automatically Using Current Location (currently set to ON)
Calendar > Preferences > Advanced > Turn on Time Zone Support (currently CHECKED)
    iPhone
Settings > General > Date and Time > Set Automatically (currently set to ON with “Time Zone” showing as Chicago)
Settings > Mail, Contacts > Calendars > Time Zone Support (currently set to Houston)
Settings > Mail, Contacts > Calendars > Time Zone Support > Time Zone Support Slider (currently set to ON)
    1. do i need to do anything special when setting an EVENT while i am in CST (for instance) but the event is going to happen while i am in EST? i mean, can i just set the event with these settings and leave it as CST?
    2. do i need to MANUALLY adjust my iPhone and MBP - once i arrive in EST - to show up as CST in order to get the alert to go off at the correct time?
    3. do i need to MANUALLY pull down an event to "FLOATING" any time this event will happen outside the time zone i am in?
    4. are there any limitations to using a FLOATING event? i know one cannot set a floating event from the iPhone but if this works and this is the only limitation i can do this method.
    5. i have heard some people resolve this issue by MANUALLY setting their time zone for their "home time zone" and they TURN OFF time zone support on all their devices so that the events happen at the correct time with no time zone adjustment. does anyone know if this method works? does anyone know if there are complications to such a move - for instance if i was to work in another continent for a period of time it seems like you would have to change your time zone and this would affect all previously entered events. but also i cannot figure out if doing this will let the TIME on my MBP and my iPhone read correctly since this is very important to me.
sorry to be posting on this but this is very difficult to test and threads such as there indicate there is a lot of ongoing confusion about this.

any thoughts? or perhaps there is someone that has travelled recently and has this down to a science?

  • Location Service always on

I did the update to iOS 7.1 last night and Location Services won't turn off unless I shut it down completely.  It used to be that if an app was using location services, I would force close the app and GPS/Location Services would turn off.  Now, even if I force close ALL apps, Location Services continues to run.  I don't want to have to go to Services > Privacy > Location Services and turn it on every time.  That's ridiculous and makes apps using Location Services not worth using.
Does anyone know if there's a way to get back to the way it was prior to the update or if Apple is going to fix this?
    Thanks!

Mine was yahoo weather as well. I just deleted the app. I have so many other weather apps.  But same here you guys. I close every app from running in the background and the location icon still comes on (Draining battery life)... I think its part of this updated iBeacon and what they call a geofence?
    I dont like it.

  • Mavericks Server Calendar and Contacts  services won't start.

Recently the calendar and contacts services stopped working.  Client computers started getting errors like this:
"The server responded with an error https://[some UID and a lot of other info]... is not a location that supports this request."
It was suggested by Apple tech support to do a free install/rebuild, but that's not really an option simply because of the wiki.  I've previously spent months trying to migrate wikis from Mountain Lion Server to Mavericks server; never coming across a working solution and ending up having to copy/paste every page from the old server to the new server.  Apple had no working solution for migration wikis and instead suggested a reference to a Krypted site URL (which also didn't work).
Other services are working just fine, but here are the symptoms we're experiencing:
Calendar service has reported a code 0 at one point, but did not continue the error
Calendar service has reported a code -1 at one point, but did not continue the error
Calendar service in can be toggled on, but the service never starts and stays offline even though the toggle switch is "on".
Calendar service full status in Terminal.app is stuck in starting
Calendar and Contacts services seem to take a while to load the status pane in Server.app
Client computers get repeated, non-stop, connection error dialogue boxes in Calendar.app
Occasionally when I try to see the Contacts service status by select it, I get "A networking error occurred while trying to communicate with the server" - this is using Server.app on the server itself, not from a client computer.
It seems the two primary problems are starting the services and therefore connecting to them.  Other services such as wiki and filesharing are working fine.
    Any ideas folks?
BTW - my Time Machine backup did nothing to help the situation.

  • Location services in Mavericks with no WiFi?

I just installed Mavericks on my Mac Pro, and I want to use its location-aware features, like travel times in Calendar, etc. However, since it's a desktop, my computer is connected to the internet via ethernet, and has no WiFi hardware installed. So, it's telling me that it can't use Location Services. Is there any way to just tell the computer where it is, since it's not going anywhere, and have that be used for location features?

Resurrecting this thread as it's a question I'd quite like answered.
My Mac Pro has its time zone/location set in Date & Time System Prefs, but when using Maps, it cannot find its current location unless WiFi is on. So no consistency there then.
But is does raise the question of why WiFi is required. I don't actually know how Location Services work, but cannot see how WiFi is required. The WiFi network here (at home) simply connects to the wired ethernet backbone and hence to the Internet. Every WiFi device can alternatively be connected to via the wired network. What can WiFi possibly provide that the wired connection cannot?
I think it's just Apple being lazy and only implementing it (whatever IT is) over WiFi since it has most use in a mobile application. No real reason it cannot use the wired network, but they can't be bothered to include it since they saw no reason to on a fixed Mac. But they completely missed the fact that other stuff like their own Maps app requires this service in order to plan routes. So they really need to either update Location Services to be able to use the wired network or ensure that Maps (and similar) can use the machine's location as specified and Date & Time prefs. It is monumentally stupid that this situation exists.

  • After I upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.2, calendar app won't open

I recently upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.2 on my mac. After the upgrade i cannot open my calendar. I get a message that my mac does not dsupport this app. Can anyone tell me where I can find out what kind of mac would support the calendar app. Is there something I csn do on this computer. I am on an imac 3.2 GHz Intel core i3 with 8 GB of memory.

Please use Finder to locate your Applications folder, then the Calendar app there.  Control-click on the Calendar app and choose "Get Info".  What version number is shown there?  It should be 7.0.
If it is 7.0, click on the Calendar app you just located in the Applications folder.  Does it open?  If so, drag the old Calendar app off your dock (which will remove it), and drag this one from your Applications folder to the dock (which will add it there).  That should solve your issue.

  • How do I establish or change my "Home" location in the Mavericks Maps app?

In the Maps app in Mavericks my "Home" location is completely wrong, and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it.
The address itself, as it's expressed in text, is correct. But the location on the map in terms of where the address is located is entirely wrong.
How do I alter the location of "Home" in the Maps app to establish the correct location.
I have sumitted an error report to Apple to identify the problem. But this seems to be a futile effort, since I did the same thing when the Maps app was released for iPhone over a year ago and there's been no adjustment made.
So I'm looking for a way to manually correct my "Home" location on the map. Anyone know how to do this?

I have the same or similar wierd problem. For some reason, maps (and calendar when calculating travel time) believe I live some 80 km south of what I do. In another town, a street that doesn't have a similar name to mine. The address in contacts is correct. When I search for that address in maps it shows the correct address. If I type "home" in maps' search field it shows 2 homes, the wrong one and the good one (with the adress wrote). I have no idea how the wrong home got in there and how to get rid of it...
Calendar always uses of course the wrong home to calculate travel times...

  • Toggling Location Services for apps to "While Using" not possible in iOS 8

So I've read one of the features in iOS 8 is being able to toggle the location services features of apps as follows:
    Never
    Always
    While Using
I thought this would be useful because it could potentially help saving battery, however, I've only got the "Never" and "Always" options.
Only after opening an app have I found that the "Always" option switches to "While Using" , but then the "Always" option disappears. But this isn't true for all apps.
Is this an app specific "feature", then, as that's not how websites are labelling it.

    Hello CCC,
It is happening on the following devices:
    iPhone5
    iPhone5s (two)
each have a "Family" generated iTunes account which has been associated to my iTunes account as the organizer. I would probably like to see it resolved on the iPhone5s (son and daughter) first and then the iPhone5 (wife).
    2. I am also experiencing issues with "Mail" using IOS 8 in that email will not delete from my inboxes (same devices as above)...
    3. I also have an issue with iCalendar not syncing events to my family members devices (iPhone5 and iPhone5S) using IOS 8. I entered my son's volleyball games into calendar on my macbook which is associated to my apple id as organizer and none of the other devices  associated to other family iTunes account received the updates. I have an iPhone5 as well and I received the updates.
    4. I am also experiencing issues with Family not recognizing pictures of family members which I have been trying to get fixed up.
I don't think I have ever experienced this many glitches when updating to a new version from Apple before:(. I sure hope this is not going to be the new norm.
I have also noticed that Health kit does not allow you to change the unit of measures within the application that it forces you to use the country's standard. This might be fine for younger individuals but as for me who grew up learning imperial and changed to metric halfway through school I would prefer the option to choose which unit of measure to use.
Thanks for taking the time to respond,

Also, I've gone to Settings/ITunes and App Stores/Click on AppleID/View Apple ID and then turn off Genius. Still nothing has worked. I'm still stuck with Genius offering the same apps to me. Mind you, once I click on the App Store there is nothing I can do but swipe left and right. There's absolutely nothing at the bottom of the screen like a features tab, nothing. There is, however, a categories button at the top, but that's it. Irrelevant.

FWIW, I just got off the phone with Apple technical support about this.  I use Genuis for creating playlists, so I don't want to disable it, but Apple support confirmed that there is no way to avoid syncing Genius data without disabling Genius altogether.  I'd read somewhere else that subscribing to iTunes Match might allow you to avoid this, but that is NOT the case, as I've confirmed, and Apple support has confirmed.  For me, it routinely syncs thousands genius of items, so I have to allow a lot of time for my manual syncs.
