Mavericks Mail Password problem

In Mail, the box : " Mail can't connect to the iCloud account ...... Enter the password for user ......" keeps coming up.
I enter my Apple password & It's OK for a while & then the box comes up again !!
In Mail Preferences - if I put the password in & save it, the next time I look the password box is empty !!
Any Ideas ?

Hi Peter!
I have an article for you here that can help you troubleshoot any issues you may be seeing with Mail in OS X:

Maverick Mail Printing Problem: prints email header on separate page from body of email.  Why?!

For what it's worth, I can report exactly the same problem.  I just recently converted from Outlook for Mac 2011 to Mail.  I did the conversion while running Yosemite.  I like pretty much everything about Mail EXCEPT that it take 2 pages to print a 1 page email!!  The header appears on the top of p.1, followed by a blank space.  The message begins at the top of p.2.
If you scale it down, you can get the message to begin to appear on the bottom of p.1, but clearly, Mail is inserting BIG SPACE between the header and the message.  Changing the display fonts for Mail had no apparent effect (except that the font DID change, of course)....still a BIG SPACE between the header and the message.
Coming to Mail for the first time, I would have assumed that this was just a quirk of Mail, but am I understanding that some of you Mail users out there USED TO NOT have this problem??  I think it's pretty clear that it's Mail that's causing the problem, not the message, because I went over to my old Outlook and printed the same couple of messages with no such space between the header and the message.  So Mail is inserting a space into the print formatted email message that is NOT there in Outlook's print formatted same message.
Be really nice to get rid of this problem, but my Apple Care free support has expired.  Not sure I want to pay for something that's generic to Mail!!  Anyone else made any progress on this?

  • Constant Mail password problems...

Always asks for password even though I 'save' option when entering password. Have gone into Key chain and redone all mail pasaswords. Reinstalled Mail. This has been going on for years with all my 15 or so Macs- not some new strange thing that just started. Always had problems with Mail passwords. Is there a definitive handle for this crappy app? Even if it was just a once a week handling, that would be better than every time I try and get Mail it asks for passwords! What a waste of our time!

I just had the same problem but not only with mail - with all my apps. Seems the keychain got corrupt somehow. I called tech support and here's what they walked me through which worked for me - hope it works for you.
    1) Completely quit all your apps except for Finder and Dashboard
2)Go to: Macintosh HD > Users > (Your Home Folder) > Library Folder
    Delete the Keychains Folder
    3) Then go to: Macintosh HD > Users > (Your Home Folder) > Library > Preferences Folder
    Delete file named com.apple.keychainaccess.plist
    4) Restart your computer
Once you've booted back up test it out by opening Mail. It will ask you for the password once more, since you're basically starting a new keychain from scratch. Be sure the password is correct before you click the "Save Password in Keychain" box. I was told conflicting passwords is most likely what caused mine to become corrupt.
Good luck, I hope that helps.

  • Outgoing Mail & Password Problems-Solution

    Hi All,
After upgrading to Snow Leopard I had a couple of issues.
    1) Couldn't send mail
    2) Passwords in Mail were not getting saved
To resolve the outgoing mail problem see this article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2998
Basically edit your outgoing server and change the outgoing port to custom and put in you appropriate port number. I use Cox without SSL so I used 25
For the password problem go to your Home folder, go into Library and move the folder called "Keychain to the trash then restart. After restarting open Mail go into Preferences and add your password back to your account. It should now retain the password. This will also help with other apps like Safari that use Keychain to store passwords.
Also I was able to copy a keychain from another computer to get back all of the passwords I already had. After the upgrade my keychain was mostly empty.
    Good Luck,
    Mark

Had been trying that, to no avail. Found that I had to entirely delete the account and set up entirely new account with new password which worked.
    Thx

  • Mail password problem with non Apple email accounts

If I quit Mail for any reason and then start it up again, Mail asks for the passwords to each and every one of my non-Apple email accounts. It does it every time. It's been doing it since I restarted after the last security update. If I put the passwords in, everything works until the next time I relaunch Mail. Is anyone else having a similar problem, and does anyone know how to fix this?

Try this: go to the Keychain Access utility, select the Keychain First Aid command under the File menu, and have it verify the keychain. If it encounters any errors, have it repair them and verify again. If it then comes up clean, try Mail again. If it still isn't holding the password, go back to Keychain Access, go to Passwords -> Internet, locate the item for your e-mail account, and delete it. Then try Mail again, making sure you have the password(s) correctly set in Mail's Accounts preferences.
    Hope this helps.

  • Mavericks Mail Mouse Problem

Since updating to Mavericks, my mouse doesn't scroll in Mail. It scrolls just fine in everything else I use, but in Mail, it just sticks. At first, it would scroll a little bit, then stop. Now it doesn't move at all, and I have to use the Page Up and Down buttons on my keyboard to navigate threads. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
    Feedback
    Try deleting the mouse.plists.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist.Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences.  Move the .plists to your desktop.
Test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I have to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • E-mail password problem.

Today my Daughter tried to change her password as she has been unable to access her e-mails for the last 3 days. Tried the on line section with no luck, so called the helpdesk and was told that it had been compromised and it would be passed on to someone else and have a call within the next 4 hours. After 2 hours called back as I would have to go out and would not be available. This time the person I was talking to said it could be sorted with the screen share, which I agreed to. Within 10 mins she had the problem sorted and one happy Daughter. The thing is that when the Daughter looked at her E-mails there was one from BT last week stating that her account had been compromised and it was locked. What is the point of sending a e-mail to a account that is locked and unable to access. Must say that the second person to deal with this seemed to know what they were doing and fixed the problem which makes a change.

the email about the account would have been sent automatically and normal before the account is actually locked to allow you to change passwords that was from my own experience

  • Mail 'incoming mail' password problems

Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone can help with the settings in Apple mail on my G5 OSX 10.5.8?
I have recently opened a new email account but I am having difficulty with the settings in 'mail' I have set everything correctly but my 'incoming password' set on my G5 desktop is being declined. I have used the same settings on my G4 laptop, and my Mac pro with some difficulty but I got there in the end. I have also set it up on my iphone 4s without any problems. But my G5 no matter how many times I try, which is several, refuses point blank! I have tried both POP and IMAP, different servers advised by my web hosts, but all to no avail. I have had some limited success where it allows it for a few emails/moments both ways but then refuses. Also I have been able to send emails without a problem, but not able to receive. I have obviously checked all the settings numerous times, and they have been checked and agreed with by the web host. The problem appears to be the 'incoming password', which I have also tried changing for the email account. For some reason my G5 seems to be just sending the wrong password? I'm not sure if this can be an encryption problem? I have other email accounts on this computer and they are all working fine. I have tried deleting the 'keychain access' for the account and starting afresh, and even tried using a different keyboard to type in the password, to no avail? I did not have an easy time setting the G4 (OSX 10.5.8) and the Mac Pro (OSX 10.6.8) but they are working okay now. If I use the Outlook Web App on the same computer it logs on no problem. It is the apple 'mail' on the G5 OSX 10.5.8 which is causing the problem. I am drawing a blank on this one and would be grateful for any advice? Thanks.

Create a New User Account, and as that New User try to set up this one account -- as it is POP, set to leave messages on the server after download. If not familiar with setting up a New User Account, see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
This will be a useful test, and is not meant to suggest a permanent switch to the New User Account, but rather a test of the Mail application outside of your normal User Account.
Also in System Preferences/Networks click on Advanced, then Proxies and make sure no proxy selections have been checked.

  • Has Yosemite corrected Mavericks' Mail/Contacts problem with Groups?

After I switched from Snow Leopard to Mavericks, I found that I could no longer list a Contact Group name in the To block of an email without all of the addresses in the group showing, despite having Mail Preferences set so that all of the addresses wouldn't show. The work-around for this problem is having to put Contact Group names in the Blind Copy section of an email. Does anyone know if Yosemite has corrected this problem?
    Thanks,
    Bob W.

Thanks Barney. I assumed that Yosemite hadn't corrected the problem.
However, I'm not sure where you got the information that the "BCC" section on Mail email forms was designed to be used for "Group" addresses from Mac's Address Book (now Contacts).  The "BCC" section of the email form was designed to be used by email composers who wanted copies of their emails to go to addresses that they wanted to keep hidden from those whose addresses appeared in the "To" section of the email.
The "Group" address feature in Contacts were created to allow email senders the option to send emails to large numbers of addressees that had something in common (such as a group of relatives of the sender, or in my case, members of a club), so that you didn't have to type in large numbers of addresses in the "To" window every time you wanted to send to such a group. At the same time, it kept the addresses hidden from all of those who received the email as well as from spammers.
Mac also gives (or did give) you the option to have the addresses in the Group in the "To" window to show or not to show. Go to "Preferences-Composing" section in Mail and you'll see that under the "Addressing" heading, you're given the option "When sending to a group, show all member addresses."  Since that option is normally unchecked, the default is to not have the addresses show. Unless you opt to allow the addresses to show, only the name that you've given the Group shows in the "To" window of the email.
If the Group addresses in Contacts were designed to be placed in the "BCC" section of an email, there would be no purpose in having that Preference option available in Mail Preferences.  The problem with having to use the "BCC" section of the email for Group addresses is that many email server companies assume that high numbers of addresses showing in the "BCC" section of an email is an indicator that the email is coming from a spammer, so the use of "BCC" for large numbers of email addresses can cause problems. The use of "Group" address names in the "To" window avoids those problems.

  • Mavericks mail group problems

When I address an email to a Contacts group and hit Return, Mail lists the whole group correctly in most instances. However, for random groups, It lists members multiple times (same email address each time.) The group itself lists members correctly. I have tried turning Mail off and on, turning the computer off then on, and deleting the group and recreating it member by member, but get the same results. In one case, the problem just resolved itself without my doing anything I can remember, but just that once, and with a different Group than is now malfunctining. Any ideas?

    FYI The upcoming 10.9.2 update to OS X Mavericks (since beta 3 build 13C44 that is available to developers now!) seems to fix the mail re-indexing issue for a few of us;

  • How to find help for Apple Mail password problem -- using CLEAR/Verizon

I've established an alias e-mail address through Apple Mail.  I've lost the password.  Apple "Help" tells me to ask internet provider.  But I only have a cell phone so Verizon doesn't allow me to ask my question.  I use CLEAR to connect through Verizon.
This is confusing.  I don't know where to go with this issue.

What is the domain for the email address? You need to get help from the email provider.

  • Voice mail password problem, iPhone 5S

I have a 5S, use AT&T for voice mail. Every time I finish listening to a voice mail, I get a pop up asking for my password. I enter the password, but after listening to the next voice mail, I get the pop up again. Happens EVERY time. The popup does not affect my receiving or listening to voice mails. I've tried hitting cancel to the popup request, but it continues to appear--and I continue to receive my voice mail. Its very annoying. How do I get rid of the constant popup?

  • Mail Password problems

I'm not having trouble receiving mail or sending it, but Mail asking me for my yahoo account password consistently. I always check the box that asks if I want to save the password in my key chain, but that doesn't seem to be working.
    Help please!

We've been discussing this on some other threads. I (and many others it seems) am having the same issue with the password. I've done all the keychain stuff with Mac support, and a complete reinstall of the OS, and it doesn't fix it. The Gmail thing above is the only thing i've seen on the forums or support escalation that I haven't tried, will give that a shot.
    thx.

  • E71 e-mail password problem

I have previously used my e71 to retrieve e-mail from my Hotmail account.  Now when I try to do this, it is showing a screen with a red "@" above a box asking for a password to be entered.  I have not knowingly set a password for this function and therefore can no longer retrieve e-mails.  Can anyone suggest how I can get my e-mail access back ?
    TIA
    John.

I have been operating the account without a password.  I have a limited supply of passwords and have tried all that I may have used, if I had needed to, and none work.  I am assuming that the password was "set" by keys being "pressed" when in my pocket.  If I cannot re-set the password, can I set up a new account as the "default" e-mail and simply ignore the one asking for an unknown password ?
    John.

  • Cannot Send Mail/Password Problems

Whenever I open my primary e-mail account I get a message saying it cannot send mail because no password is provided for the account. (I can receive e-mails on this account, and can send and receive e-mails on my other accounts) I have tried re-entering my password and changing my password and neither have worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The provider for my primary account is digis. And as far as I know everything is correct, I've been able to send e-mails on this account for the last year, it has only been the last month or so that I have been getting this error.
    Thank you for your help!
