Max Log Disk Space isn't bigger than 1GB
Hi All,
Do you know reason why the log of gwia can't be set bigger than 1GB?
In console one, i can set it with my number but it is back to 1GB when press the apply button.
My log level is verbose.
This problem is not mentioned in the document also.

I assume because someone at sometime thought it would be a sensible
limit.
Kidding aside, I happen to agree. In fact, IMHO a single 1GB GWIA.LOG
actually is almost absurd and nothing but asking for trouble, even if
it's technically possible. Why in the world do you want to set the log
*that* big for a single file or let alone even bigger?
Wouldn't it be an option to set the log to rotate daily and if necessary
add in a cron job for instance that copies the resulting logs elsewhere
if you want to keep them forever?

IPhoto on Snow Leopard: importing videos or photos bigger than 1GB
Hi there, I use an iPad 3 and an iPhone 5 and 4S an in all of them I seem to not be able to import photos or videos bigger than 1GB to iPhoto (pre-installed) as it will keep waiting after I import all or selected files!
Any advice?iPhoto has always had a problem with importing larged videos. For large videos connect the iPad/iPhone to your Mac and use Image Capture to upload them to the Desktop before importing into iPhoto.

Disk space used much larger than actual files
I noticed this morning that Terminal was giving a warning about running out of swap space, which I thought was odd, as /var/vm was only at around ~10GB, but later when I tried to install some updates, I noticed that it said I only had 1.8MB free on my hard drive. I ran a df -h and it showed %iused at 100%. I immediately deleted some logs to free up a few megabytes of space and started hunting for what could have been hogging all my disk space, I seem to remember having 60GB free last time I checked. I was deleting a few small files, when I noticed this
bash-4.2# du -h -d 1
6.2M ./.DocumentRevisions-V100
584K ./.fseventsd
583M ./.Spotlight-V100
0B ./.Trashes

1.5M ./sbin
0B ./Shared Items
4.1G ./System
52G ./Users
4.9G ./usr
4.0K ./Volumes
117G
So apparently, according to du, I am only using 117GB of my hard drive. I immediately ran this
bash-4.2# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity iused ifree %iused Mounted on
/dev/disk1 297Gi 283Gi 14Gi 96% 74220526 3630455 95% /

map -hosts 0Bi 0Bi 0Bi 100% 0 0 100% /net
map auto_home 0Bi 0Bi 0Bi 100% 0 0 100% /home
So my question is how is it that all of my files combined are using 117GB, including swap, but according to df, Disk Utility and Finder I am using 283GB? I am using FileVault 2, if that helps
Here's some more data

The other Internal hard drive is the core storage physical volume, already mounted, mounted in the image. Recovery HD is the 650MB system recovery partition.
I rebooted to the recovery partition and used Disk Utility to verify the volume, it said everything checked out alright.
In disk utility, the top entry has this data
Name : Internal Hard Drive Capacity : 319.21 GB (319,213,174,784 Bytes)
Type : Logical Volume Group Available : 16.8 MB (16,777,216 Bytes)
Disk Status : Online Used : 319.2 GB (319,196,397,568 Bytes)
However the other entry, right below it has this
Mount Point : / Capacity : 318.88 GB (318,877,626,368 Bytes)
Format : Encrypted Logical Partition Available : 202.18 GB (202,175,160,320 Bytes)

Number of Folders : 241,519 Number of Files : 1,246,454
So I guess the reboot fixed my problem, df -h now shows 37% used, but the logical vomume group still shows only 16MB free. Anyways, things seem to be working now. -
My disk space isn't increasing?
Hello,
I seem to have a problem with my Macbook Pro 13-inch (Mid 2014) with Retina Display,
I have 121 GB Flash Storage, and I have partitioned my disk into 2 parts, the first being my startup disk (70.72 GB) and the second, a secondary disk (49.62 GB). I recently got a message saying the my startup disk was full, and to free space on it(I had around 16.1 mb free), but when I delete Applications, Music, Videos, iDevice Backups etc., the free space remains 16.1 mb, and it's not increasing. I've also tried to repair disk permissions etc.
Could someone please help?
I'm on OSX Yosemite 10.10.1
Thank You!Download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper and Grand Perspective (both free) and open them. They will show all of your files and the respective sizes. You can use these to determine what discrepancies there may be.
Have you clicked on the HDD icon on the desk top to see what it says about the storage usage? This is from mine:
How does that compare with what is shown in Disk Utility?

User disk space available showing less than actually available on drive
Can anyone tell me why the space available to a user would be different, less than, that on the drive?
My user home folder is showing only 72Gb available, while I've actually still got some 350Gb available on the drive, which I can see in the finder by clicking on the drive. I certainly haven't manually given myself a quota or anything.
I am using encryption, file vault. And I'm using time machine.FileVault only encrypts the Home folder. It does so by creating a sparsebundle type of disc image file. Any space available information you see is related to the sparsebundle. As your Home folder expands in space usage so will the sparsebundle. However, if you remove files from the Home folder the sparsebundle will not shrink.

Pls immediate help required log files are getting big size than 1GB
oc4j_DBConsole_mbcvizpilot3.mbc.uae_vizrtdb\log
Do as follows :
- stop EM
- rename log directory to log.old
- create a new log directory
- restart EM
- check that new log files have been created in the new log directory
- after checking that everything works fine you can remove the old directory.
You shouldn't have any problem, at least I didn't have any... -
Running out of disk space error even tho I have 200GB free!!
Dear users,
I have a huge problem. I have dowloaded an application from the AppStore named "Virtual City" and once I try to play the game it crashes saying "Running out of disk space" even tho I have more than 200GB free on my hard disk.
I am using a MacBook Pro Mid April 2010 with Lion latest version.
What could be the problem??
Thanks in advance.
A.Did you try to reset your phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
Do you have an "other" section on your phone, bigger than 1GB? If yes, try to restore the phone to bring it back to normal size, it might contain corrupt data from an unsuccessful sync. -

Unallocated Disk Space after Recovery
I performed a system recovery to factory settings that resulted in my Disk space being distributed differently than before. I have a lot of unallocated space as you can see bellow. I need to know how to fix and how to prevent this from happening the next time I perform a recovery. Also, is it normal for the RECOVERY (D) partition to show multiple times in Disk Management ?
Thanks.
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi,
You can extend the C partition into the 'unallocated space' as follows.
Once again, hold down the Windows Key and press R. Into the Run Box type compmgmt.msc and hit enter. Click Disk Management in the left pane and let the drives load up.
In the lower graphical view of the partitions, right click the C partition and select 'Extend Volume'.
In the following window, click Next.
In the next window, using the 'Select the amount of space in Mb' make sure that this is showing the same figure as the 'Maximum available space in Mb' figure that is listed just above ( adjust it if necessary ).
Then click on Next and click on Finish.
This may take a few minutes to complete.

DP-K

"out of disk space" error with Quicktime export
Hi - just trying to export a fairly small (3 minute) video sequence to record via iDVD. When I try to export the sequence as a Quicktime movie, I get an "out of disk space" error. I don't understand why - the video is not that big, and I have over 30 GB of free disk space. I suspect I'd be able to do it if I deselect the "self-contained" option - but I don't understand why 30 GB of disk space isn't enough.
Other details: FC Express 3.0Well, I thought everything had been rendered, but I'd missed a couple of transitions. When I tried to render those, I got another "out of memory" error. Turns out I'd misinterpreted what the "minimum scratch disk size" setting meant - it was set to 32000 MB - I thought that meant that 32 GB would be available for storage, but I guess it means that the 32 GB will NOT be available for storage.
Anyway, I changed that minimum to 10000 MB, and now everything works....
Thanks!

Free disk space significantly smaller after reinstalling
After installing the update for iTunes 8.0.2, I was one of the lucky few who couldn't get their macbooks to boot back up after shutting down after successfully rebooting.
After an apple care phone call and visit to the Genius Bar, all is good again.
But, at the Bar, they reinstalled leopard. I noticed just a little while ago that my free disk space is significantly less than what it was before all of this happened.
Do I need to delete the old install or something (where and how)? He didn't do any archiving as far as I could tell. He just plugged my macbook into the orange thing and reinstalled it.
Message was edited by: heymegothe guy at the genius bar clearly did an archive and install so that your old user data and applications were preserved. that creates a "Previous Systems" folder at the top level of the hard drive which contains your old system. If everything is working ok you should delete that folder and empty trash. once you do the lost space will be reclaimed.

Available disk space seems incorrect
Hello again everyone. Thank you for solving my problem last time. This time I come with another problem I haven't seen anyone else answer.
I think the title says it all. My laptop is telling me I have about 1GB left on my HD, but I KNOW there MUST be more available or there are a lot of hidden files that I can't find that are taking up gigs of space.
I know that this is not right because I have had gigs of video files or the like on here before and still have 20GBs left just fine. (The total HD space I think is 55GB.) I have been deleting file after file after file and it keeps going down and down and down even when I have not downloaded or added anything to it.
I have almost nothing left to delete save picture files which I definitely do not have 20GBs of.
Also, when I open Photoshop, the available disk space goes down significantly (about 1GB). I close PS, disk space comes back. I restart my computer, some more disk space will come back. The most I've been up to recently is 2GB.
If anyone has any ideas or solutions they are very much so appreciated. Thank you.Awesome program. And it seems to have confirmed my suspicions.
I scanned what I believed to be the biggest folders of stuff: Applications, Documents, Music, and Library. The total for the four was just under 14GBs. 55 - 14 = 41GBs. Is there something I could have missed? I don't have any movies and the pictures folder came up to about 60MBs.
Where have these 41GBs gone to~? -

RMAN9I HOW TO RESTORE ARCHIVE LOGS WITH LIMITED DISK SPACE
==========================================================
PURPOSE
이 자료는 Oracle 9.2 이상의 RMAN에서 사용 가능한 MAXSIZE 기능에 대하여
설명할 것이다.
How to restore archive logs with limited disk space
Old Backup을 사용하여 RMAN으로 database를 recvoery할때, 모든 archived
redo logfile들을 Restore할 destination의 disk space가 모자란 경우를 종종 만난다.
이러한 경우 여러 개의 restore and recovery job으로 나누어 수행한다.
즉, 첫 번째 restore and recovery job이 끝나면 archived redo logfile들을 지우고
STEP 1: Add data to the database to enforce log switches
STEP 2: Backup the database and archive logs and delete the logs
STEP 3: Add additional data to enforce new log switches
STEP 4: Remove the data file and simulate a database crash
STEP 5: Restore the data file from the backup
STEP 6: Recover the database using MAXSIZE
# Step 1: INSERT enough new data to generate log switches
create table rman_tst (col1 varchar2 (10));
begin
for i in 1..30000 loop
insert into rman_tst values(i,'test');
commit;
end loop;
end;
# Step 2: BACKUP the database and the archive logs automatically
# and then delete the input
run {
backup database format='/web01/usupport/krosenme/admin/backups/db_%d%s%t'
plus archivelog format='/web01/usupport/krosenme/admin/backups/arch_%d%s%t'
delete input;
# Step 3: INSERT enough new data to generate new log switches
begin
for i in 1..30000 loop
insert into rman_tst values(i,'test');
commit;
end loop;
end;
# Step 4: REMOVE users01.dbf file and crash the database
mv users01.dbf users01.org
shutdown abort
# Restore is now needed as the data file is deleted. The backup was
# taken before the new data was added to it, thus archive logs are
# needed to bring the database up to date
# Step 5: RESTORE the data file from the full backup
run {
restore datafile '/web01/usupport/krosenme/oradata/kro_920/users01.dbf';
# Step 6: RECOVER
run {
recover database delete archivelog maxsize 10 K;
# This will fail with RMAN-6558 as the archived log has a size of 16 KB,
# which is bigger than MAXSIZE limit of 10 KB. So the error is expected
# and MAXSIZE works as designed.
# Now rerunning STEP 6: but with MAXSIZE 50 K
run {
recover database delete archivelog maxsize 50 K;

Recovery Manager Reference, Release 2 (9.2)cold backup means offline backup, you shut database normally and copy datafiles to another location.
i think operating system does not matter that much but it is RedHat Linux Enterprise Server.
backing up archivelogs whith rman script which is:
run {
allocate channel c1 type disk format '$BKUPLOC/arch_%d_%u_%s_%p.bkp';
change archivelog all validate;
sql 'ALTER SYSTEM ARCHIVE LOG CURRENT';
backup archivelog time between 'SYSDATE - (30*60/(60*60*24))' and 'sysdate';
release channel c1;
so here is the details.
1. because everything is lost, we restored all files(datafiles, controlfiles, redologs etc) from offline backup meaning copied all files from another location to corresponding location.
2. want to apply archive logs which were created after cold backup till disk failure and we have these archive logs with backups which were taken by rman.
So
first of all, we want to register these archive log rman backups(because these backup information does not exist in restored controlfile)
and then restore them and then apply them.
we need rman commands to register these backups and restore them.

Logs are filling up disk space
Dear all
i am facing a problem in my database
the database is in archive log mode and continuous archiving of log is filling up the disk space
please let me know what should i do so that at the end of activity there should be no complaints of logs filling up
i wil ensure the big disk space
please let me know what kind of administration i have to do with this issue ...hello Sagar
when you use RMAN for backup you can set RETENTION POLICY for window of day or redundancy for example
RMAN> CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 3 DAYS;
or
RMAN> CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 3;
and when you backup use "BACKUP ... PLUS ARCHIVELOG" for example
BACKUP DEVICE TYPE sbt
DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG;
it cause that RMAN when backup your database , backup your archived logs too ;
and about that two first CONFIGURE command
first command cause backupfiles and archived log files that backuped up before than 3 days signed obsolete in V$BACKUP_FILES view
(you can query the V$BACKUP_FILES view and check the OBSOLETE column)
second command cause backupfiles and archived log files that backuped up 3 times signed obsolete in V$BACKUP_FILES view
and if you use "DELETE OBSOLETE ..." command in RMAN it delete obsolete files
and your archived logs that backued up and are obsolete will be delete
AND you can use DBMS_SCHEDULER for synchronize this routine

MTA msg:MSLOCAL: Less than 1 kBytes of disk space available
I just started seeing these a few days ago and I know for a fact there is a huge amount of disk space on the server hosting the MTA, so I am not sure why these messages are appearing:
<01/25/12 04:11:51> DIS: MSLOCAL: Less than 1 kBytes of disk space available
<01/25/12 04:51:51> DIS: MSLOCAL: More than 1 kBytes of disk space available
The messages have show up a handfull of times since 1/20. Could not find anything on other forums, or in the KB. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!This is the amount of LOG space configure for the POA ( see Console One --> POA Object --> logging configuration. ) You get this message when it exceeds the limit you specify and it has to clean up old logs to make room.... hence the "Less Than 1 KB" ( I deleted stuff ) "More Than 1 KB" pattern. You may just just started to exceed the size limit, and previously were just riding on the log file aging alone which would clean out old logs. You can up the limit if you want to ensure N-days of retained logs.
