Max two values

Question

Hi All,
We have a requirement to get max two values.
We have one primary key Let us assume Quarter_sk we have to get Max two values for particular condition.
This primary Key doesnt have sequence.
select Quarter_sk from myschema.myTable where max(Quarter_sk) and max but one(Quarter_sk).
Could anyone please help to me.

You can try the ROW_NUMBER analytic function, like this:
WITH  got_rnum     AS
     select      Quarter_sk
     ,     ROW_NUMBER () OVER (ORDER BY Quarter_sk)     AS rnum
     from      myschema.myTable
SELECT     Quarter_sk
FROM     got_rnum
WHERE     rnum     <= 2
;or, if Microstrategy doesn't do WITH clauses:
SELECT     Quarter_sk
FROM     (
     select      Quarter_sk
     ,     ROW_NUMBER () OVER (ORDER BY Quarter_sk)     AS rnum
     from      myschema.myTable
WHERE     rnum     <= 2
;Note that this produces exactly 2 rows, which may have the same Quarter_sk value.
If you really want two distinct values, replace ROW_NUMBER with DENSE_RANK. In that case, you may want to change SELECT in the main query to SELECT DISTINCT.
