Maximum LUN size (2TB?) on Mac OS X Server 10.4.9 (Intel)

We have a newly acquired Xserve (Quad Xeon) with the Apple (LSI OEM) Dual-Channel 2Gb FC HBA. The system is attached via a Sun (QLogic OEM) SANbox2-16 switch to a Sun 3511 (SATA-based FC array).
The Sun 3511 is configured with a single RAID5 volume/partition across 12 x 400GB disks and has a single LUN (LUN0) mapped to this volume. As such, the array indicates a partition of 4194223 MB (~ 4TB) should be presented to the host.
The host, however, sees the following (some output omitted for brevity) :

You will notice that the fibre channel multipathing on the host is working correctly (no setup required). However, the LUN is presented as exactly 2TB. In searching Apple's KB, I've come across articles relating to Xsan and > 2TB LUNs. On the other hand, Apple is clear that both the partitioning method in use (GPT) and the file system (JHFS+) support much larger sizes.
Xserve Quad Xeon   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Is the switch configured as Open Fabric? This is the preferred config for an xserve. you might want to try a static setting vs "automatic."
Good luck!

  • Mac OS X Server on the new Intel based Mac Minis?

I've successfully been running Mac OS X Sever on my G4 based Mac Mini. Does anyone know if it can be run on an Intel Mac Mini? - The install appears to work, but Server Admin doesn't see the Mac, and Software update doesn't seem to find any updates.
Anyone done this successfully / know if it can be run?
    Thanks.
    Mac Mini Intel

Thanks everyone. I called Apple and they actually said it was supported (I spoke to the guy in the Mac OS X Server support area). He said to do what is described in this thread, and then install the incremental updates to Sever admin.
I did all this, but it doesn't work - so I think at this point, we have to assume it's not yet supported.
I suppose you could still install Mac OS X Server on the mini, and then use Server Admin on a different machine to manage it...?

  • Maximun LUN size for non-MAC SAN

    Hi.
I am trying to configure a PPC Mac Xserve to utilize storage space on a non-mac SAN (Compellent). I successfully setup the original volume on the SAN as a 2TB volume, zoned it through the Qlogic switch and mounted it on the Xserve.
Now I need to increase the size of that volume to 3TB. I unmounted the volume on the Xserve, deleted and recreated it on the SAN, and then tried remounting it on the Xserve. The Xserve detects the new volume, but only sees 2TB of space. No matter what I do, I cannot get it to see anything more than 2TB.
I thought the 10.4.10 FS (HFS+ Journaled) could see well over 2TB? Is there a LUN limitation? The only reference to this that I saw, was a limitation with older versions of the XSAN software.
    Thank you.

  • Maximum LUN size for Windows 2012 server

    Hi,
Would you please let me know if your OS version is Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 Essentials? If it’s Windows Server 2012, you’d better ask the question in the File Services and
Storage forum. We will get a better assistance there.

  • Maximum HD size for MDD G4?

    Hi there
I had a real pain in the proverbial when trying to do a clean install of Panther (or Tiger) on a 1Ghz G4 on a new 200 Gb HD. There were instablilities, Hands on shout down/restarts, etc, before running any updates or 3rd party apps.
Is there a maximum HD size for these Macs? It came with a 80Gb HD.
    Thanks for any help...

Some RAM that worked under prior versions of OS X has been known to fail. Tiger makes much more use of all available RAM for cache is part of the reason. Memtest would give it a good workout overnight.
MDDs support Cable Select, it depends in part on the IDE cable itself. In fact, you could use it on older Macs and controllers most of the time.
Never apply an update without first doing a backup and some disk repair and maintenance. Even flushing the cache folders with something like Applejack. Never use your Mac while an update is taking place. Reboot prior to applying an update, might want to use Safe Boot Mode. And use the standalone updates, and the combo update if possible. On some occasions it was necessary to reapply the combo update.
With Tiger, I found that while it was possible to update, a full erase and install resulted in a better OS. So backup.
If you keep your home directory or backup on another drive, so much the easier and better.

  • Maximum Message Size

    Hi,
I have had to increase the Maximum Message Size on each of several weblogic server instances from 10,000,000 bytes to 30,000,000 bytes. The upper limit for this value is 2,000,000,000 bytes.
What are the performance implications for the other server instances when this field limit is increased?
Does anyone have a recommended initial value for this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
              Thanks.

    Hi,
This maximum message size helps guard against a denial of service attack in which a caller attempts to force the server to allocate more memory than is available thereby keeping the server from responding quickly to other requests.
              Secure value is 10000000.

  • Maximum Database size in exchange 2007

    Hi Team,<o:p></o:p>
What is the maximum database size we can have in Exchange server 2007 SP3 RU8 standalone server.<o:p></o:p>
In our environment we have 1800 users hosted on the
exchange 2007 server with DB size(EDB file) of 1.61TB. What is the maximum size it can grow upto. Any response appreciated.
    Thanks<o:p></o:p>
    Srini<o:p></o:p>

Amit just beat me to posting Harold Wong's article! :-) Since you're currently on 1.61TB the artificial limit has already been adjust via the registry setting mentioned (the article mentioned 50GB though I've seen others mention 250GB). So the maximum limit
is 16TB, but whoever adjusted things to allow your current size may have set the artificial limit as something smaller, so you'd want to check the registry to see what it has been set to in your case.
I'd also echo the comments about database size. Depending on how you handle backups then they may also play a part. Since most backups work on the basis of backing up / restoring the entire database (obviously backing up changes rather than the whole thing
each time), then the event of you needing to restore it's much easier if you have smaller databases to deal with. Splitting your mailboxes across multiple stores will help minimise the time required before you can get some users online again in the case of
a total failure. Also, if you split your mailboxes across 5 databases and then have a problem (for instance corruption) on one of them, then only around 1/5 of your users are effected rather than all of them.

  • Mac OS X Server: Can I install that in a Intel iMac running OS X Tiger?

    Hello,
I really want to buy the Mac OS X Server Tiger Software, but before that I still have lots of questions, so here is just one question:
    - How can I install that on my iMac Intel running Tiger OS X? Do I need to make a pertition of my MBR Hard Drive in order to be able to fully run Mac OS X Server on my 2Ghz Intel Mac?
Thank you, hope you got a solution for my problem.

    > How can I install that on my iMac Intel running Tiger OS X
Umm, you mean other than inserting the DVD, double-clicking the 'Install Mac OS X Server' app and following the on-screen instructions?
    >Do I need to make a pertition of my MBR Hard Drive in order to be able to fully run Mac OS X Server on my 2Ghz Intel Mac?
If you want to, sure. There's no need to do this, though. The only reason to create a separate partition is if you wanted to dual-boot your machine so that you could switch between Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server, but that's entirely optional.

  • LUN size guidelines

Hi I'm implementing DPM 2010 with SAN disks and was wondering if there is any guidance to sizing LUN's when attaching to the DPM server for storage pool use? I vaguely recall something about not going getting bigger than 1.5TB per LUN. Is that still
a guideline? Or can I just attach a 5TB LUN for use in the storage pool? Any info will be appreciated!

    Hi Mark,
I'm thinking we have some conflicting information on the DPM 2010 technet site and the old recommendation of using 1.5TB disks is obsolete.  Keeping in mind that when Windows formats a volume, the maximum cluster size it will use by default is
4K, giving the maximum volume size of 17TB for a single replica or recover point volume.  So the old recommendation of using 1.5TB disks to achieve a replica size of 48TB was flawed to begin with.
The thinking of having more LUNS, versus one large one was also to we spread the I/O over multiple LUNS because by default, DPM will put replica volumes and recovery point volumes on diffferent disks if you have more then one in the storage
    pool.
With Modern SAN's where you slice meta-luns out of large raid-arrays, performance is usually no longer a problem and can get away with createing larger LUN's.  DPM usually creates two volumes for each data source protected, the exception
in DPM 2010 is if you are protecting laptops, SQL Databases, or Hyper-V guests where we allow you to co-locate several like data sources on the same volumes.
I would use the recommendation in the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399280.aspx
Use a maximum 17TB LUN for GPT disks and 2TB LUN for MBR disks, not to exceed the maximum total of 80TB overall per DPM server.

I can change my artboard size manually (shift+o) and drag the corners to 227inches but the number on the right upper corner is stuck on 120 inches. So what is the maximum size that I can work in Illustrator? If it is 227in why can't I make an Artboard bigger than 120 inches? And to avoid more confusion what is the canvas and what is the art board?
    Thank you

    mus,
When things become seriously weird, as in your case, it may be worth trying the list (you have been through 1) and 2) already, and I would suggest your skipping 3) and 5), which leaves 4) and 6).
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media, see below. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/preference-file-location-illustrator.html
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Maximum File Size on Import?

Hello all, been a ghost reader here but this is my first question (love the forums, btw, super helpful).
I've been editing a feature film on Premiere Pro. We are nearing the end and I received a DPX sequence back from coloring. Upon importing into Premiere (Intermediate Media Timebase set to the appropriate framerate), the importer hangs up. If I click on anything, the program crashes.
    Here are my questions:
Is a 2TB DPX sequence a "normal" size for any project? This seems insanely large to me, but this is also my first feature so I could just be ignorant.
If 2TB is normal, is there a maximum file size Premiere can import? If not, should my system be able to handle a 2TB file?
The 2TB file is on an external drive, connected via USB3. Potential to connect via eSATA.
    System Specs:
    3770k CPU
    SSD for OS (256GB)
    External Raid 10 - 6TB
    32gb RAM
    GTX 580 GPU
    All help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks for the reply, Jim.
Just to clarify, a file this size (or sequence of files) is common? But generally the only way to handle them is with a RAID 3 setup?
My next question would be, isn't there a lossless format the color people could give me that isn't 2TB? The file I gave them was just over 800GB so it seems really unnecessary for it to be this large.

  • Maximum file size for export into MP4?

    Hello,
I am not able to export 2 hour HD video into standard MP4 file. It seems that reaching 100% export algorithm gets into loop. I was waiting for hours and still had seen progress at exactly 100% with final file size on hard disk to be 0 bytes. I am using CS5 on MAC OS X. I had to split my timeline to 2 parts and to export them separately (which is embarrasing). Is there something like maximum file size for export? I guess that 2h video would have about 25-35GB.
    Thank you
    jiri

    You are right.
So I am running AP Pro 5.0.4, Adobe Media Encoder 5.0.1.0 (64bit). Operating system Mac OS X ver 10.7.3. All applications are up to date.
    MacBook Pro Intel i5 2.53GB, 8GB RAM, nVidia GT 330M 256 MB, 500GB HDD
Video is 1920x1080 (AVCHD) 25fps in a .MTS container  (major part of timeline), 1280x720 30fps in .MOV container (2mins), Still images 4000x3000 in .JPG
No error message is generated during export - everything finishes without any problem...just file created has 0 byte size (as described above).
This is my largest video project (1h 54min) I dont have any other problem with other projects.
I dont run any other special software, at the moment of export all usual applications are closed so that MacBook "power" can go to Media Encoder. No codecs installed, using VLC Player or Quick Time.
Attached please find printscreen from Export settings (AP Pro). Writing this ppost I tried to export only the first 4mins from timeline where all kind of media is used...and it was OK.
As a next step I will try to export (same settings) 1h 30mins as I still believe problem comes with length of video exported.

  • Maximum file size of 2,0 Gb exceeded

Searched all over the place and found one thread with no solutions, so I´ll try again..
I have a project with two mono recordings, each aiff and 530 mb big. Thats 2 hours and 24 minutes. When I try to bounce this in logic 8 (to mp3), I get the message "maximum file size of 2,0 Gb exceeded - please choose a shorter bounce time". ??? If anyone knows how to get around this, pleeaase let me know.
I imported the aiff files to garageband, and garageband had no trouble bouncing it to mp3, so if garageband is able to bounce it, surely logic should be!? The reason I need to bounce it from logic is because of the editing features there, so doesn´t really help that garageband is able to bounce it....also tried importing the mp3 to logic and then bounce, but same problem occured. I´ve also tried turning down the quality to lowest, but doesn´t help. Please help!

    Just some thoughts on this...
If the OP is saving to a Mac formatted drive it's not a problem with creating a file on the drive. Might try saving to different location.
It's possible this may is an internal error from Logic and. It probably has little to do with the actual file size as much as it does with the overall length of time of the bounce.
In other words... if Logic sees a certain length of time for a bounce, no matter the file type, it thinks the bounced file will exceed the 2GB file limit, which is leftover programming from earlier version of Mac & PC Logic when both operating systems imposed a 2GB file size restriction.

  • Maximum attachment size for Mail 4.3 and can it be changed?

    Hi,
We are using Exchange 2010 at work and have found via several Mac users, and which I have verified myself, that Mac Mail appears to impose its own maximum attachment size limits, somewhere around 10MB. If I take the exact same message and send it via my PC running Outlook 2007 the message sends correctly.
We have 4 users who reported the same thing so it isn't isolated to one machine. I have confirmed and re-confirmed that our Hub and Edge transports are configured to allow 100MB e-mails. Mac Mail has other ideas.
Is there a way to change this limitation as I can't seem to find anything, via Google and/or searching these groups?
I don't want to go back to Thunderbird or, worse yet, Entourage......

It appears in this case to be a failure on Apples part to develop an application that support MAPI. Hopefully the forthcoming release of Office 2011 will rectify this situation.
As I said I have gone through our setup of 6 exchange servers, covering all the bases.
    For instance,
    get-mailbox <user> | fl MaxSize
    MaxSendSize : 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes)
    MaxReceiveSize : 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes)
    Get-TransportConfig | fl MaxSize
    MaxReceiveSize : 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes)
    MaxSendSize : 100 MB (104,857,600 bytes)
All receive connectors are configured to 100MB also on our Hub Transports.
Even the fix listed in the links above, related to EWS and changing the IIS settings, which is where the issue seems to be, doesn't seem to work for me. It may be that I have missed something of course so I'll look over those links once more.
Maybe restarting IIS after the changes were made wasn't enough.....
Of course the other fix, since it works perfectly well with Windows machines and Outlook is to do away with our Macs entirely. Boy that would make me happy!!
