Maximum no. of datafile with parameter DB_FILES and size of datafile

I am working on sap 4.6C with oracle 9.2.0.7.0 and my OS is AIX 5.3
my initSID.ora file consist fo DB_FILES = 1022 which means I can add maximum to 1022 datafiles for a tablespace. Now we are nearing to the figure and worried for increasing the parameter DB_FILES value but as oracle document it is mentioned that the value for parameter is OS dependent. I want suggestion regarding the how to increase the value of parameter and can it be given ulimited value.
The other query is that now we have a limit of 2GB size for a  datafile so every time when a datafile is added to a tablespace it size is 2GB can I increase the size of the datafile to 4GB/6GB/8GB with AIX 5.3 as os system if possible how can it be achieved.
Thanks

Jairaj

Hello,
I think you are a little confused.
DB_FILES is a "soft" value, and indicate the maximun number of datafiles on the <b>database</b> not tablespace. You can check the oracle documentation:
[quote=Oracle Reference]
<i>DB_FILES specifies the maximum number of database files that can be opened for this database. The maximum valid value is the maximum number of files, subject to operating system constraint, that will ever be specified for the database, including files to be added by ADD DATAFILE statements.</i>
[quote=Oracle Reference]
There is a hard limit ( regardless of the value of DB_FILES ) You can see the note 606395 for details:
<quote>
1.  Physical database limits
o  Database files
<b>       maximum per tablespace : on most operating systems 1022  </b>
<b>       maximum per database :   65533 total, further limited by the
                                 db_files init<SID>.ora parameter  </b>
        Database file size:  see note 129439 for OS-specifics
<quote>
This means that there is NO posibility of having MORE than 1022 files per tablespace, no matter what.
Also it is not possible to have more than 65533 files in total.
For your second query the answer is on the note 129439 "Maximum file sizes with Oracle" ( also mentioned on the previous note )
PS: Looks like stefan was faster than me
Note 1: MAXDATAFILES is not a hardlimit in 9i either
Note 2: The limites mentioned in the note 606395 are also valid for 10g

  • The Mystery of the Duplicating Photos with Varying resolutions and Sizes by Sony Z1 Compact

    about the duplicating photos with varying resolutions and Sizes problem... I have a band-aid fix to this without deleting everything in your  phone. What you do is to find time to actually MANUALLY DELETE the extra photos. Don't delete it by Taping on the Album app and deleting everything on the home photos.
    Instead tap the album then on the UPPER LEFT CORNER (If you've updated the albums) tap the 3 bars beside the album icon to access the album menu, then tap the FOLDERS choice.
    You should see alot of folders with Thumbnails named with numbers and different resolutions. Delete all the folders labeled as Thumbnails or cache. *note that you cannot delete whole folders but the folder gets deleted automatically after all the contents inside it is deleted
    Afterwards, go to your phone's settings->App-> Album
    Then tap the Clear Data button
    After that restart your phone.
    This actually "fixes" the problem for a while but usually after a few restarts or Phone charge the folders comeback and you have to redo the whole process again. But the folders that are made becomes fewer than the 1st occurrence of this problem and deleting the photos shouldn't take as long as the 1st.
    Honestly i think this is definitely an Application bug and should be fixed by Sony, since you know its their built in app for Multimedia

    yea that also helps since it's a bug caused by the new update. I'm just waiting for Sony to fix the bug, i don't really mind deleting the thumbnails

  • Need help with parameter fields and report selection.

    Hi all:
    I hope some one can help me with the problem I am having with my parameter field and record selection.
    First, can anyone explain to me why my parameter field CustStart, which is dynamic and is based on the field Customer in the table CustMaster.  There are over 1800 records in the CustMaster table but the drop down list only shows maybe about half of them and there is no way to scroll down to the last customer record.  What am I doing wrong?
    Second, is there any way to base a parameter field on a formula field on my report?  On my report I have created a field Cust that is the customer name and number joined together in one field.  I would very much llike to use this formula in my record selection and in my parameter field.  Can it be done?
    All help is greatly appreciated
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    You can use the following for changin increasing the LOV.
    Crystal Reports XI BusinessObjects Enterprise XI
    For performance reasons, in Crystal Reports XI Release 1 and Release 2 the maximum number of values that are returned for a list of values is set to 1000. If you have a cascading List of Values (for example Country > Region > City), the lowest level (in this case City) will only display a maximum of 1000 values. This means that the higher-level prompts may display far fewer values than you expect. The list of values provides the data for the dynamic parameter list.
    How can you modify the maximum number of values available in a dynamic parameter list?
    Resolution
    To increase the maximum number of values available in a dynamic parameter list, you must add a registry key.
    CAUTION     The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall the Microsoft Windows operating system. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk. For information on how to edit the registry key, view the 'Changing Keys and Values' online Help topic in the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
    It is strongly recommended that you make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat on Win9x computers) before you edit the registry.
    Crystal Reports XI Release 1
    1.     Create a registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV.
    NOTE     Alternatively, you can create the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV and that key will override the settings of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV key.
    2.     Add a string value "MaxRowsetRecords" and set the value to the maximum number of values that you desire for your report. For example, a value of 2000 will return up to 2000 values in the lowest level of a cascading parameter. NOTE: The value 0 (Unlimited) will not work with BusinessObjects Enterprise XI or Crystal Reports Server XI, you must specify another value.
    NOTE     The higher the number of values is, the longer it will take the Enter Values dialog box to populate with values.
    3.      After making changes to the registry, restart the affected service or application as required.
    Crystal Reports XI Release 2
    1.     Create a registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV.
    NOTE     Alternatively, you can create the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV and that key will override the settings of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions\LOV key.
    2.     Add a string value "MaxRowsetRecords" and set the value to the maximum number of values that you desire for your report. For example, a value of 2000 will return up to 2000 values in the lowest level of a cascading parameter.
    NOTE     The value 0 (Unlimited) will not work with BusinessObjects Enterprise XI or Crystal Reports Server XI, you must specify another value.
    3.     After making changes to the registry, restart the affected service or application as required.
    I hope this helps you.

  • I am not satisfied with the font and size of print that I set. How do I change it?

    When I first set up Firefox on my desktop, I set the print size and font. I have found that it is too large and I really would like to change the font, also. I can't find a spot to do that. I might be looking right at it but don't realize it. Could you help me?

    I can't remember what I did when I set the font and size of articles that I printed from the pages on Firefox. I just know that I tried something a few months ago and have not been happy with the settings that I made. I can't find anywhere to change those settings and have tried so many things but they do not change the look of the pages I print when I click print. I tried to see if I could change the settings but all it does is change portrait or landscape and margins...nothing about fonts or sizes. I am getting so frustrated even though I love Firefox.

  • Display sysdate with required font and size

    how to display sysdate in html db page with required font ,size and color ?

    You need to compute the item first. Something like SQL Expression - TO_CHAR(SYSDATE, 'dd.mm.yyyy hh24:mi:ss'), on load.
    You can choos this item to be a text item and in
    HTML Form Element Attributes
    you enter:
    style="font-weight:bold;font-size:15px;color:blue"

  • Datafile and size

    I have potentially 400 GB of data to store. There are two options I can think of:
    1) use multiple small datafiles;
    create tablespace TEST
    datafile '/oradata/test.dbf' size 2048M
    extent management local
    2) use single bigfile tablespace.
    PRO for 1) is easy to backup and recovery; CON is too many files. For the size of 400 GB, I need about 200 datafiles with 2 GB each (?)
    PRO for 2) is only one datafile to use; CON is the size will be very big. It will make it difficult to backup and recovery.
    Would you please offer some suggestions or opinion?
    Thanks
    Scott

    I understand that with the default 8K blocksize, I can have a datafile as big as 32 G. For the small tablespace with multiple datafiles option, should I keep the size < 2G or < 32G?Little correction required.
    The maximum size of the single datafile or tempfile is 128 terabytes (TB) for a tablespace with 32K blocks and 32TB for a tablespace with 8K blocks.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/limits002.htm#sthref2833
    As Mark above and Tom (in the same link) are saying "but over time, things change. Today in 2006, I would not have any problem with a file larger than 2gig - the tools have all caught up to the fact that files can and do get larger."
    So, just start with smallfile tablespace and add the datafiles as and when needed. And one more thing, there is no relationship of big/small file tablespace in view of performance, because tablespace is a logical term of Oracle database. I/Os are related with datafile and OS not with tablespace.
    If someone is searching for I/O tuning then I think he/she is doing a scientific approach to the problem rather than searching for performance vs tablespace issues. I am not finding a link where Sir Thomas kyte has said that the same something like this, even docs are wrong on this issue.

  • Data Action is converting in to data page with  parameter="unknown"

    Hi,
    I have created one DataAction, and drag a method from appmoduleImpl on to the created data action. that method contains one parameter as well.
    Now i want to write code in findForward() method on that action class (from gotoCode menu item). After all, if i rebuild it, it is changing to data page from data action with parameter="unknown" and giving me error. In page flow diagram also its showing data page image with Yellow coloured exclamatory mark on it.
    Anybody have any idea ???

    This is the resultant entry in struts config.xml :
    <action path="/editpage" className="oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionMapping" type="com.abc.de.testAction" name="DataForm" parameter="unknown">
    <set-property property="modelReference" value="editpageUIModel"/>
    <set-property property="methodName" value="editpageUIModel.getFirstPageDetailsFromId"/>
    <set-property property="resultLocation" value="${requestScope.methodResult}"/>
    <set-property property="numParams" value="1"/>
    <set-property property="paramNames[0]" value="${param.Id}"/>

  • How to run a webdynpro multiple times by passing different parameters each time and save webpages with parameter name?

    Hi Experts,
    I am a BW consultant and new to webdynpro. Not sure how to run RSO_METADATA_REPOSITORY multiple times and by passing different parameter values each time(either taken from an a standard BW table or user provided - anything is fine) and build web pages with parameter name. Need help with direction on where to start.
    Let me step back and explain my requirement:
    In BW we have an object called transformation.
    One way of generating documentation for transformation is highlight transformation and press F1. Then its documentation will be opened as a local web page.
    I need these web pages for all transformations. This is my requirment.
    I came to know that RSO_METADATA_REPOSITORY is beeing used to generate this web page.
    The web link is something like below:
    http://ubw05.xxx.com:8005/SAP/BW/DOC/METADATA/?page=BW_O_D&SystemID=BWPCLNT100&ClassID=TRFN&ID=0KHR6J65AIIUTCJZEC093K6XDFV909PB&objectVersion=A&sap-language=EN&sap-client=100
    When i run this link seperately(not by selecting transformation and pressing F1) i need to enter login credentials to BW system.
    My challenges is how do i pass login credentials and multiple transformation IDs to generate multipe web pages with each page named by transformation ID?
    WHere to start? First of all is RSO_METADATA_REPOSITORY Webdynpro JAVA or webdynpro ABAP or can i use anything?
    Since it is beeing opened as local webpages i assume it is webdynpro JAVa is that correct?
    Thanks,

  • Run Report with Pass Number and Varchar Lexical Parameter values

    Dear Sir/Madam
    Due to an urgent change required to a report I would most appreciate it if you can please advise me if it is possible to get this report working by either passing in multiple lexical parameters or one signle lexical parameter when calling the SRW.RUN_REPORT command with the following methods:
    Firstly: When calling report with a run_no and spr_cd passed in through one lexical:
    cmd_line: REPORT=D:\DEV\REMITTANCE.rdf BACKGROUND=YES BATCH=NO DESFORMAT=PDF DESTYPE=FILE DESNAME=D:\DEV\REMITTANCE.pdf
    CP_L_PARAM=RUN_NO=TO_NUMBER(28) AND SPR_CD=SUPP1
    Both with a TO_NUMBER and without, whereby I attempt to do a SUBSTR within the query of the called report to derive the RUN_NO Oracle Reports fails to accept the SUBSTR.
    Secondly: I am now trying to call the with passing two lexical parameters into the report as follows:
    cmd_line: REPORT=D:\DEV\REMITTANCE.rdf BACKGROUND=YES BATCH=NO DESFORMAT=PDF DESTYPE=FILE DESNAME=D:\DEV\REMITTANCE.pdf
    CP_L_RUN_NO=||TO_CHAR(lv_run_no)|| CP_L_SPR_CD=||lv_spr_cd;
    NOTE: The above is an output of the actual command line and not what is passed into the command line, thus the quotes are missing. Please also note that the report is running fine with the only a hard coded RUN_NO value PASSED without the SPR_CD.
    Unfortunately this is also causing issues as the RUN_NO is a number and as you know you can only pass in strings.
    Your urgent help is required on this matter please as our client is expecting a solution this afternoon.
    Hope to hear form you soon.
    Kind regards

    The SRDemo has an example of a selectOneRadio bound to a parameter being used to pass to an ExecuteWithParams action (to automatically feed a view object's named bind variable. This is in the SRStaffSearch.jspx page.
    Also, if you check out example # 72 from my blog:
    http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/09/23/notYetDocumentedAdfSampleApplications.html#72
    There is another example of using a selectOneListbox to do the same type of thing.
    The steps involved in creating something like this are to:
    (1) Define your named bind variables on your view object
    (2) Drop the "ExecuteWithParams" action in the operations folder of that view object from the Data Control Palette to your page as a "Parameter Form"
    (3) Drop the specific attribute (nested child of the "ExecuteWithParams" action from step (2) as whatever kind of selectOneXXXX control you want
    (4) Delete the extra field on the form you don't want.

    hi ,
    thanks very very much for this nice information,
    let me answer you :
    you said that NPE G2 has finite capacity , but how to know this full capacity ???
    i mean that my policy map is matching the traffic , but the matched traffic is not being enhancemend ??!!!
    last about two weeks , the matched traffic of youtube was excellent and no interrupt durting the my rush hour.
    i didnt change any thing, but my bw increased from 730 Mbps to 760Mbps ,
    im un able to make sure that i need to chnage my platform to faster one.
    agian
    my cpu is 60 % without QOS
    after QOS it increase to 80-85 %
    agian ,
    about NBAR
    i want to tell you that i cant depend on NBAR , as an example , im matching the ips of videos of facebook , i cant depend on NBAR because it is https videos.
    but in summary ,
    my qos is matching well , but i have no real enhancement for my traffic.
    did you face my issue before  ???
    i mean have you see like my problem ?
    like my router platform  with cpu over 80 % and 750Mbps , and matched qos without good result ??
    note that i upgraded to iso 15 , but seems same issue !!!
    regards
