Maxinum number of cells in a query result

Hello everybody
Our customer built big a query with a lot of key figures and attributes. After starting this query through BEx Query Designer or BEx Web Analyzer an error message is telling me that the result is beyond the maximum number (500 000) of showable cells.
Does anybody know if it is possible to raise this number?
Regards
Chris

I have a similar problem. When I try to run a large report, on Web I get a message that Result set too large (1039966 cells) data retrieval restricted by configuration (Maximum= 500000 cells). and on BEX the query times out.
The Solutions suggested to change settings in web Analyzer does not work, beacuse the Maximum Number of Cells a report could have is 500000 (Default is the same)
Is there any other way to get all the cells in BExno matter if takes a little longer?
Thanks.
Regards
Abhijit N.

By using <TH> instead of <TD> on your header row
you can then specify different font type and size in your CSS code.

  • Limit Number for Rows in BW Query Result

    Hello Experts,
I am creating a query to be consumed by a web service. Therefore, I want to restrict the number of rows the query can display. Does anyone know a way to limit the result set to display only say FIRST 100 rows of data?
I have looked at 'safety belt' solution, i.e. limiting number of cells to for example, 5000 cells. However, when the limit is exceeded the query just shows an error message not the first 5000 cells.
    thanks,
    Kartik

    Hi,
You can do some things like..........
Do not display the data in a detailed level.
Use Always Suppress option in the result set.
Also it depends on your Query definition. If your rows contains Branch wise or Region Wise, then your report will be fit in your first level of output. You need not to drilldown further.
Why do you want to consider only first 1000 rows if you are planning to use it by Web service?
I don't know whether it is feasible or not. I have one more alternative for you. You can try to achieve by APD by the Query. Insert a ABAP routine which should consider first 1000 result rows for your Web service. Just throw a light on this idea..............

  • Conditionally display button based on number of rows in rpt query results?

I know that I can conditionally display a button based on the number of rows returned in a query entered in the condition. However, I have a report region button that I only want to display if any data was returned by a report query. Since I've already executed the query to generate the report, I do not want to execute it again to determine whether any rows were returned. Is there any way to detect whether any rows were returned for a report other than to reissue the query?

    http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=24317:52
OK, so it looks like it contains the rowcount of the report region rendered just before the variable (apex_application.g_flow_total_row_count) is referenced.
Sort of like how SQL%ROWCOUNT contains the no. of records affected by the last SQL DML statement.
Note that the pagination scheme affects the result. In the example above, the 2nd report region is showing 10 rows with a 'Rows X to Y' pagination scheme. So g_flow_total_row_count=11 because I guess the reporting engine has to fetch the 11th row (and discard it) to determine whether to render the 'Next' pagination link.
If you select a pagination scheme that forces the reporting engine to fetch all the rows 'Rows X to Y of Z', g_flow_total_row_count will always be Z, not the number of rows actually rendered on the screen.
    Thanks

  • Warning Message in query result as 'Notification Number DBMAN 345'

    Hi ,
I have a warning message while executing the query
    'Diagnosis
Currently, it cannot be guaranteed that SIDs and master data exists for all characteristic attributes for the DataStore object to be read.
There is a restriction on a navigation attribute of the listed characteristic in the query. This filters all characteristic values of the master-data bearing characteristic for which there is not yet master data out of the result.
For performance reasons, this filtering is unavoidable.

      Notification Number DBMAN 345  '
'i am getting this error because of cutomer exit variables  on navigatioanl attributes of  Omaterial'
I tried supressing it in  RSRT.. but unable to find the message.
I tried  debugging and assigning enhancement points in  FM  BAL_LOG_MSG_READ.. As it is standard function module its not suggestable to do..
can we creat custom FM ?? will it be called if we  write code to supress warning message??
Please let me know how to use  BADI'S  in order to supress the error message that appearing in query result?
    Thanks All.

    Hi,
The warning is raised due to the following reasons:
      - you have a selection in the filter of a navigation attribute
      - in your DSO you do not use the option "SIDs Generation upon Activation"
If the option "SIDs Generation upon Activation" is not flagged,
you may get char.values for an Infoobject in the system not
having any SIDs. As a result you may see in the report less data as
    expected.
For example we have Infoobject A with its Nav.attribute B
      Infoobject A   Nav.attribute B
      12             13   ->> has a SID in the X-table
      11             10
      9              13   ->> has no SID in the X-table
If you define a selection on B =13 in the query, you only get infoobject
A with key 12 displayed in the result, since only B =13 has a SID
    in the relevant X-table.
The warning refers to this behaviour and cannot be avoided unless you:
       - flag the option in the ODS-settings
       - or remove the filter defined on 0MATERIAL__xxxx
    Thanks,
    Venkat

  • Numbering query results with a line number in SQL*Plus

Doesn't it stand to reason that in SQL*Plus there would be a way to number each query results sequentially with line numbers starting at 1 to n -- something option like from a SET command? I'm not talking about linesize.

There's a column rownum the engine adds into the result sets, just add it to the select list. Can use it to limit the result set (with some limitations) i.e.:
    select rownum, ... from ... where rownum <= 100
Can't use ">=", that condition will never be met but a subset could be used:
select * from ( select rownum as linenr, tab1.* from ... ) where linenr between 10 and 20

    Hi Experts,
I got an error: "maximum number of characteristics(50) reached (BRAIN 696)" on query result because my query has over than 50 characteristics on rows. How can i solve it?

    Dear Andrew,
as far as I know there is a limit at 999 characteristics per class. If 999 characteristics are there in a class an error message is raised to inform the user.
    Best regards,

  • SSMS Addin - How To Access Query Results Grid

    Hi,
I want to access Query Result Grid(Results) in SSMS addin but I did'nt found anything.
How can I access Query Result Grid, Rows, Columns and Cells when I executed a script?
    Thanks.

SQL Server Management Studio currently supports query execution results to be displayed in three different ways: Results to Grid,
Results to Text and Results to File.
By default SQL Server Management Studio is configured to display query results in
Grid format.  If you want to change the default to some other option follow these steps.
    1. In SQL Server Management Studio, under Tools menu, click
Options as shown in the snippet below.
    2. In the Options dialog box, expand Query Results, expand
SQL Server and then select General as shown in the snippet below. In the right side panel choose one of the three options shown below in the
Default Destination for results drop down list and click
OK to save the changes as shown in the snippet below. The changes will go into effect once you open a New Query window.
Query Result Options for Results to Text
In this format you have the option to display the results in a different tab as well as setting different output options.
In the Options dialog box, expand Query Results, expand
SQL Server and then select Results to Text tab as shown in the snippet below. In the right side panel first select the checkbox for
Display results in a separate tab and then select the checkbox for
Switch to results tab after the query executes and then click
OK. If you would like to also display the column name in the result set then choose the option Include column headers in the result set
as shown in the snippet below.
The options you can use in the Text format are:
Output format: - In the above snippet you could see that by default the output is displayed as columns aligned. Some of the other options that are available are Comma Delimited,
Tab Delimited, Space Delimited and Custom Delimited. If you choose the Custom Delimited option in the Output format drop down list then you need to specify a character of your choice for the delimiter in the
    Custom delimiter text box.
Include column headers when copying or saving the results: - If this option is selected, then whenever the results are copied to clipboard or it is saved to a file the column headers are also copied along with the results.
Include the query in the result set: - The text of the query is displayed as part of query output under the messages tab.
Scroll as results are received: - If this option is selected, then the display focuses on the most recently returned records at the end of the results set.
Right align numeric values: - If this option is selected, then numeric values will be aligned to the right of the column.
Discard results after query executes: - If this option is selected, then the query results are not displayed in the reviewing pane.
Display results in a separate tab: - If this option is selected, then the result set after query execution will be displayed in a new tab instead of at the bottom of the query window.
Switch to results tab after the query executes: - If this option is selected, then after the query execution the screen focus will be set to the results tab.
Maximum number of characters displayed in each column: - This sets the maximum characters to display for any one column.  So if you have a column that is 500 characters this will only show the first 256 if you keep the default setting.

  • Large query result set

    Hi all,
At the moment we have some java classes (not ejb - cmp/bmp) for search in
    our ejb application.
Now we have a problem i.e. records have grown too high( millions ) and
sometimes query results in retrieval of millions of records. It results in
too much memory consumtion in our ejb application. What is the best way to
    address this issue.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks & regards,

you can think of following options
    1) paging: read only few thousands at a time and maintain a index to page
    through complete dataset
    2) caching!
    a) you can create a serialized data file in server to cache the result set
and can use that to browse through. you may do on the fly
compression/uncompression while sending data to client.
    b) applet based solution where caching could be in client side. Look in

    Thanks Slava Imeshev,
We already have search criteria and a limit. When records exceeds thatlimit
then we prompt user that it may take sometime, do you want to proceed? If
he clicks yes then we retrieve those records. This results in lot ofmemory
    consumtion.
I was thinking if there is some way that from database I can retrieve some
block of records at a time rather the all records of a query. I wander how
internet search sites work, where thousnds of sites/pages match criteriaand
client can move back & front on any page.

    Hi chauhan,
You may want to narrow search criteria along with processing a
limited number of resulting records. I.e. if the size of the result
is bigger than a limit, you stop fetching results and notify the client
that search criteria should be narrowed.
    HTH.

  • Select query resulting in redo?

    Hi All,
Does select query results in redo? In what cases this happens?

This is a poor practice for a number of reasons but they are out there.
    Disagree with that. Proof:

  • Options to control display performance of CLOBs, etc. in Query Result view?

Whenever I attempt to query a table that contains LOBs (e.g. a CLOB or XMLTYPE), the lack of performance pretty much makes the "Query Result" view (from F9) unusable. Any time I attempt to scroll the results, SQL developer apparently continues to query the database for the additional characters to populate the view.
Resizing the columns containing the LOB to only a few characters almost solves the issue. Unfortunately, the size of the columns showing the LOBs apparently attempt to resize to the length of the LOB, making the column several pages long - and the same performance issue prevents resizing it smaller.
Ideally, there would be some way to resize a column to a given or even a predefined and small size, without having to drag the resize handle the entire width of the desired resize amount. Alternatively, there could be a user preference to never set default column widths above a given number of pixels or characters. Another option would be a user preference to disable the in-line display of LOB contents, displaying only and requiring a click on the "..." (or pencil icon) button to open the "View Value" dialog. Ideally, all 3 of these options could be implemented.
One crude work-around I'm using for now is to exclude the LOB columns from the results, requiring me to make secondary queries to see the LOB contents when necessary, and doesn't allow for scrolling through and viewing the LOB contents at all. Another work-around is to run the query as a script (F5) instead of a query (F9), and view the results in the "Script Output" view instead.
I'm currently using SQL Developer 2.1.0.63, but experienced this same issue with all previous versions, including 1.5.5.
    Thanks!

    I agree.
When I requested to auto-width the columns, I said to build in a maximum, but apparently they didn't.
I suggest you log 2 feature requests on the SQL Developer Exchange; 1 for the maximum width, 1 for the CLOB contents/performance. Like this others can vote too and add weight for future implementation (I will).
    Have fun,
    K.
