  • Configuring data guard: how many standby redolog do I need?

    Hi all, I want to add a standby databse to my RAC test environment but I don't understanad how many redolog I need.
    The main db is a 2 node RAC (10.2.0.4.0); every node has 3 log groups; every log group has 2 logfile (every log group is multiplexed on DG_DATA1/ASR/ and FLASH_RECOVERY_AREA/ASR/ )
    The standby db will have all its datafile on the same filesystem, so I already configured the trasnslations parameters:
    DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT='/opt/oracle/app/oracle/oradata1/ASRSB','+DG_DATA1/ASR','/opt/oracle/app/oracle/oradata2/ASRSB','+FLASH_RECOVERY_AREA/ASR'
    LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT='/opt/oracle/app/oracle/oradata1/ASRSB','+DG_DATA1/ASR','/opt/oracle/app/oracle/oradata2/ASRSB','+FLASH_RECOVERY_AREA/ASR'
    Replication via rman works well, but I have to manually add the standby redolog on the standby db and which formula to use to calculate the number of the standby redolog needed. Which is the correct formula between :
    1)
    # of standby log = ( # of redolog files + 1) * # of thread = (6 +1)*2 = 14 standby redolog files
    2)
    # of standby log = ( # of redolog groups + 1) * # of thread = (3 +1)*2 = 8 standby redolog files
    thanks,
    andrea

    Andrea,
    I think 8 should be the answer on your question. Because you have 3 log groups and 2 threads therefore (3+1)*2 = 8.
    According to the documentation :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/create_ps.htm#SBYDB00426
    Minimally, the configuration should have one more standby redo log file group than the number of online redo log file groups on the primary database. However, the recommended number of standby redo log file groups is dependent on the number of threads on the primary database. Use the following equation to determine an appropriate number of standby redo log file groups:
    (maximum number of logfiles for each thread + 1) * maximum number of threads
    I think you may get confused with maximum number of logfiles. But sometimes logfile is used as a synonym to log group. The actual log group files are usually called log members. (for instance MAXLOGFILES parameter specifies the maximum number of log groups and MAXLOGMEMBERS specifies the maximum number of members for each group).
    Each additional member in a redo log group is just a multiplexed copy. You can also consider multiplexing the standby redo log files, the same why you do for redo log members.
    In order to learn more about the usage, benefits and limitations of Standby Redo Logs (SRL) you can refer to Metalink Note 2193444.1.
    I hope this helps.

  • Oracle 11g R2 hangs after parameter processes incresed

    Hi,
    I am running an Oracle 11g R2 on a Solaris box. I was getting some Critical alert messages about the "Process Limit %" metric. So I decided to increase the value of the processes database parameter from 200 to 400. After that the system is very slow and hanging with a lot of "Log file sync" and "log file parallel write" events.
    I have rolled it back to 200 and now the system is working fine again, but I am concern about getting again the alert about the "process limit %".
    Is there any other parameter that I need to tune together with the increase of the proccesses on?
    Regards,

    It looks like the issue is not related with the processes change.
    If I reboot then db and then restart the process it runs fine. Something happens during on the db during the day that make the nightly schedule task takes forever. When I checked it this morming there were a lot of commit activity. If I cancel the process and then try to restart it again without rebooting the db the problem persist. But if I bounce the database and then run it, it will complete fine.
    Below is AWR periord comparisson report. The first period is when I cancelled the process and then tried to run it again. The second one is after the database reboot.
    I appreciate any advice.

  • ORA-01504: database name 'DEV1' does not match parameter db_name 'PROD1'

    Hi, All -
    This is my first time cloning a database. The recovery finished but gave me the following error message. All the parameters in the pfile are set to "DEV1". I believe that the parameter db_name 'PROD1' exists in the control file and causing this error. The control file is under ASM.
    How can I change the parameter in the control file and bring the 'DEV1' cloned database up? Also, how can I avoid this issue next time I do a clone?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Keithley 2000 driver parameter control question

    Hi,
    Im using keithley 2000 multimeter with labview and ran into some difficulties.
    I defined a volt measurement read.
    1.I couldnt find where to define the sample rate ( it seems to take 1 measurement per second but i need more and i know it can do up to 2000). Where do i define this?
    2. I want to sample from 2 channels. I used the multiple read function. It made everything extremely slow + i couldnt figure out how it atores the data. How do i define exactly which channels to read?
    Thanks

    thanks for your reply.
    a. i read the manual but it doesnt have a direct reference to labview integration.
    b. i tried changing Power Line Cycles input but it didnt respond as expected. if i understand the parameter correctly when it is decreased its supposed to increse the number of samples per seconds. i tried changing it to 0.01 (the lowest possible) and it actually took more time per sample.
    c. ill try configure scan or configure rout but i couldnt understand their functionality, is it like configure measurement? if i put this clock before the Read Data does the input change? do i get an array now?

  • DBCA templates - PGA and SGA using "percentageMemTOSGA" parameter

    Hi all,
    I am trying to configure a DBCA template to perform silent database creations on servers at our client sites. The amount of RAM could vary from server to server. For this reason, I am specifying the following parameters:
    customSGA=false
    percentageMemTOSGA=70In principle, this works pretty well - my DB is created with a suitable value for SGA_TARGET based on the RAM available on the server. However, the value that it uses for PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET is too small for our needs. From experience, we can get by with a smaller SGA, but we need a relatively large PGA.
    I have tried specifying the parameter "pga_aggregate_target" in the template (and thus trying to "override" the decision of DBCA) but DBCA ignores my "hard-coded" value for this and sets pga_aggregate_target according to (presumably) some calculation based on:
    - The amount of RAM available
    - The value of "percentageMemTOSGA"
    - Some "other" value which tells DBCA how to divide up the %age memory it will take between SGA and PGA
    So, my question is:
    Does anybody know how to effectively use both "percentageMemTOSGA", and:
    EITHER:
    * tell DBCA how to split the memory that it will use from RAM (in this case 70%) between pga_aggregate_target and sga_target (some parameter maybe like "percent_to_pga" and "percent_to_sga")
    OR (not as useful but better than no control):
    * specify explicitly a value (or percentage) for pga_aggregate_target, but leave the value of sga_target to be decided based on the percentageMemTOSGA
    I hope I've explained that well enough...
    Regards,
    Ados

    I've checked the help for dbca (I'm currently running from the command prompt in "silent" mode) and don't see anything about recording the creation - how would I do that? Or are you referring to using the GUI, creating a database, and then saving the template? If it's that, that's what I did first, then editing the template for my tests - I don't see the parameter(s) that I'm looking for in the template.Ados,
    I did the same what you did. Run dbca in GUI mode and generate template only now in template file I see there is a parameter to set these value. For your reference I am posting the content of that file:

  • Logical AND in MDX Reporting Services Parameter

    Hi, I would like to implement logical AND on a cube parameter. I have seen examples of hard-coded logical AND in MDX.
    (http://salvoz.com/blog/2013/12/24/mdx-implementing-logical-and-on-members-of-the-same-hierarchy/)
    But I'm not sure how to apply this to a parameter's MDX dataset.
    Here is an example of the automatically generated MDX which uses logical OR:
    This is the drop down parameter:
    WITH MEMBER [Measures].[ParameterCaption] AS [Department].[Department].CURRENTMEMBER.MEMBER_CAPTION MEMBER
    [Measures].[ParameterValue] AS
    [Department].[Department].CURRENTMEMBER.UNIQUENAME MEMBER [Measures].[ParameterLevel] AS
    [Department].[Department].CURRENTMEMBER.LEVEL.ORDINAL
    SELECT {[Measures].[ParameterCaption], [Measures].[ParameterValue],
    [Measures].[ParameterLevel]} ON COLUMNS
    , [Department].[Department].ALLMEMBERS ON ROWS
    FROM [MyCube]
    And the demo report dataset is:
    SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[CompanyTbl Count] } ON COLUMNS,
    NON EMPTY { ([Product Level No].[Product Level No].[Product Level No].ALLMEMBERS ) }
    DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION, MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME ON ROWS FROM
    ( SELECT ( STRTOSET(@DepartmentDepartment, CONSTRAINED) )
    ON COLUMNS FROM [MyCube]) WHERE
    ( IIF( STRTOSET(@DepartmentDepartment, CONSTRAINED).Count = 1,
    STRTOSET(@DepartmentDepartment, CONSTRAINED), [Department].[Department].currentmember ) )
    CELL PROPERTIES VALUE,
    BACK_COLOR, FORE_COLOR, FORMATTED_VALUE, FORMAT_STRING,
    FONT_NAME, FONT_SIZE, FONT_FLAGS

    Hi,
    I can see there just one parameter @Department@Department in your script. But if you had two parameters that should return resultset affected by two parameters. You can do it as either select from subselect from subselect.
    Example 1
    SELECT
    {x} ON COLUMNS,
    {ROWS_SET} ON ROWS
    FROM
    (SELECT StrToSet(@Param1) ON COLUMNS FROM
    (SELECT StrToSet(@Param2) ON COLUMNS FROM
    [CUBE_NAME]
    Or crossjoin between 2 parameters
    SELECT
    {x} ON COLUMNS,
    {ROWS_SET} ON ROWS
    FROM
    (SELECT StrToSet(@Param1)*StrToSet(@Param2) ON COLUMNS FROM
    [CUBE_NAME]

  • Report RFKLBU10: Missing Parameter for Logical filename in Release ERP 2005

    Hello Experts,
    Report RFKLBU10 in Sap Release 4.6c hat a parameter "Old dataset logical name".
    The new version of this report in SAP Release ERP 2005 there is no such parameter.
    Is this a SAP-Bug ?
    Best regards,
    Mike

    There are no Export or Print events accessible for the viewer
    Since it sounds like you are creating the reportdocument object in your click event, the settings on this object become out of scope on successive postbacks executed by other events.
    to get around this without major changes, you can place your "report" object in session in this event and retrieve it from session on successive postbacks.  This should solve your problems around navigation, printing and exporting.  What you will need to do is check if the session object exists (usually in page_load or page_initialze) and if so, retrieve it from session and bind it to the viewer's reportsource.  If the session object does not exist, then do nothing (ie you have not clicked your button yet that retrieves the parameter values from session and loads the report).  Also, in your click event you can check if the report session object exists and if so, remove it so that it can be re-created with your new parameter values (ie i'm assuming the only time you want to set parameter values is in this event).

  • Unable to capture the parameter values from a PL/SQL procedure

    hi.
    i'm trying to capture the parameter values of a PL/SQL procedure by calling inside a anonymous block but i'm getting a "reference to uninitialized collection error" ORA-06531.
    Please help me regarding.
    i'm using following block for calling the procedure.
    declare
    err_cd varchar2(1000);
    err_txt VARCHAR2(5000);
    no_of_recs number;
    out_sign_tab search_sign_tab_type:=search_sign_tab_type(search_sign_type(NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL,NULL));
    cntr_var number:=0;
    begin
         rt843pq('DWS','3000552485',out_sign_tab,no_of_recs,err_cd,err_txt);
         dbms_output.put_line('The error is ' ||err_cd);
         dbms_output.put_line('The error is ' ||err_txt);
         dbms_output.put_line('The cntr is ' ||cntr_var);
         for incr in 1 .. OUT_SIGN_TAB.count
         loop
         cntr_var := cntr_var + 1 ;
    Dbms_output.put_line(OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).ref_no||','||OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).ciref_no||','||OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).ac_no||','||OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).txn_type||','||OUT_SIGN_TAB(incr).objid);
    end loop;
    end;
    Error is thrown on "for incr in 1 .. OUT_SIGN_TAB.count" this line
    Following is some related information.
    the 3rd parameter of the procedure is a out parameter. it is a type of a PL/SQL table (SEARCH_SIGN_TAB_TYPE) which is available in database as follows.
    TYPE "SEARCH_SIGN_TAB_TYPE" IS TABLE OF SEARCH_SIGN_TYPE
    TYPE "SEARCH_SIGN_TYPE" AS OBJECT

    ciref_no VARCHAR2(352),
    ac_no VARCHAR2(22),
    txn_type VARCHAR2(301),
    objid VARCHAR2(1024))............

    We don't have your rt843pq procedure, but when commenting that line out, everything works:
    SQL> create TYPE "SEARCH_SIGN_TYPE" AS OBJECT
      2  (ref_no VARCHAR2(22),

    Type is aangemaakt.
    SQL> create type "SEARCH_SIGN_TAB_TYPE" IS TABLE OF SEARCH_SIGN_TYPE

      6    cntr_var number:=0;
      7  begin
      8    -- rt843pq('DWS','3000552485',out_sign_tab,no_of_recs,err_cd,err_txt);
      9    dbms_output.put_line('The error is ' ||err_cd);
    10    dbms_output.put_line('The error is ' ||err_txt);
    11    dbms_output.put_line('The cntr is ' ||cntr_var);
    12    for incr in 1 .. OUT_SIGN_TAB.count
    13    loop
    14      cntr_var := cntr_var + 1 ;

  • Cannot assign an empty string to a parameter with JDBC type VARCHAR

    Hi,
    I am seeing the aforementioned error in the logs. I am guessing its happening whenever I am starting an agent instance in PCo. Can somebody explain whats going on?
    Regards,
    Chanti.
    Heres the complete detail from logs -
    Log Record Details
    Message: Unable to retreive path for , com.sap.sql.log.OpenSQLException: Failed to set the parameter 1 of the statement >>SELECT ID, PARENTID, FULLPATH, CREATED, CREATEDBY, MODIFIED, MODIFIEDBY, REMOTEPATH, CHECKEDOUTBY FROM XMII_PATHS WHERE FULLPATH =  ?  <<: Cannot assign an empty string to a parameter with JDBC type >>VARCHAR<<.

    Sounds like a UI browsing bug (when no path is selected from a catalog tree folder browser) - I would suggest logging a support ticket so that it can be addressed.

  • Replacing NULL and EmptyString('') with "Unknown" in SSRS parameter dropdown

    All,
    What I want to do is, in the SSRS parameter drop down, instead of showing NULL and Blank values(), i want to categorize them as "Unknown", so, if the user selects "Unknown" from the SSRS drop down parameter, he should be able to see all
    the records that have NULL values or empty strings in that particular column in the result set.
    Can you tell me, how should I handle it in my main stored proc as well as in the dataset?
    Right now, i have something like this:
    Where
    (t1.name in (select value from dbo.Split(@TName,',')) OR @TName IN ('All'))
    -- Where t1.Name has empty strings and NULL values. Both of these values should be categorized under "Unknown"
    -- How would the dataset query look like? Right now I have this query for populating the drop down for that parameter:
    Select All
    UNION
    Select Distinct Name
    Order BY 1

    Hello,
    Please refer to the following stored procedure:
    SELECT
    CASE WHEN TName IS NULL OR TName = ''
    THEN 'Unknown' ELSE TName END AS TName
    From DemoTable
    Then, use following query code to get the parameter values:
    SELECT Distinct
    CASE WHEN TName IS NULL OR TName = '' THEN 'Unknown'
    ELSE TName END AS TName
    FROM DemoTable

  • Host parameter null and convert SOAP to HTTPUrl

    Hi,
    We are trying to fire a SOAP request and print the response but its throwing this error
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: host parameter is null
    The piece of code is:
    HttpClient hc = new HttpClient();
    System.out.println("Came here");
    int iResultCode = hc.executeMethod(post);
    executeMethod(post) is failing but when I print the value of post, its org.apache.commons.httpclient.methods.PostMethod@fd54d6
    Can anybody throw some light on this error and how to solve it??
    Also, theres another issue.
    We are upgrading from Weblogic 7.2 to 9.1
    Earlier we were able to pass the request and get the response in HTTPUrl form but now after upgrading, its getting passed in SOAP format. Is there any way to bypass the SOAP and get it in HTTPUrl format or what are the configurations to be made to adapt to the SOAP format?
    connection =(HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
         This line was returning HTTPUrl format, now its coming in SOAP format

    your PostMethod takes the Url as the parameter. Check you are using the proper URl i.e like http://host:port/name?params like that
