MBP Display Brightness Flicker

Not sure what is happening, it just started recently. I have a 17" MBP with LED monitor and C2D (pre-i5 series). I cover the light sensor and the screen dims/brightens as it should. However, every so often or not the screen starts flickering like the light sensor is being shielded. I'm in a brightly lit room. The only thing I could think is earlier today I was at a meeting and I forgot my charger. I used a buddy who had a 15" MBP (pre-i5 series) to charge my laptop. I can't remember if the 15" and 17" used different watt chargers?
I figure I ask before I head into Apple tomorrow.

Thats what I thought.
Strange, it's not doing it now. Maybe its some kind of weird reflection in my office doing it. It is a light sensor and even the slight hue tint could set it off.
Although it's quite annoying when it does happen LOL. Might still have Apple take a peak tomorrow.

  • Brightness of MBP display vs. 23" ACD

I was under the impression that these two should have similar brightness. However, my 23" ACD is much brighter. Is this normal or do I accidentally have some settings tweaked on my MBP. I just got it and have made sure that the display is turned on all the way (using f2). Any suggestions?
    Frankie

When calibrating my MBP display with ColorEyes and a Spyder2 I only get 157 cd/m2 while my 23" ACD will top 300 cd/m2.
Furthermore, the MBP has very low saturation, little contrast and a strong green color cast. Compared to the ACD this is very obvious.
I have tried about everything possible to match both display, but to no avail. The culprit seems to be the factory colour profile "Color LCD-42715C0.icc" which can be found in "Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays". No matter what I do to it, even deleting it won't change anything. It will be recreated next time I start my MacBook Pro.

  • Dimming Display Brightness to Zero

    Hello All,
I have been having a problem with the display brightness adjustment for a long time. Basically, the display of my 17" 1GHz G4 cannot be dimmed to black. From the System Preferences the display brightness can be lowered with the slider. In the final third however dragging the slider further to the left not only does not reduce the brightness it actually slightly increase it, and the display start to flicker.
Any ideas what could be the cause?

That model doesn't support dimming the display brightness to zero, except through Energy Saver (which may not work with all third party USB devices), or a screen saver that has a picture that shows nothing but black. Some third party hacks dim the display, but they are not necessarily that reliable.
Only Apple's notebook displays dim to full black.

  • Is display brightness reduced in Leopard?

Hi everyone, I have a question about the display brightness in Leopard. I just upgraded my SR MBP from Tiger to Leopard, and I noticed that the display brightness has been reduced. I used to work with half maximum brightness in Tiger, but now I have to set my display brightness to almost maximum value. Has anyone met this, or I need to do some extra setting up for the display?

Hi, I have also noticed a significant reduction in brightness on my MacBook Pro. I have recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard and I am very disappointed! I use my Mac for design purposes and this reduction does have quite an effect of the true display of colours, etc. Has anyone found a way to correct the brightness of the screen?

  • MBP display dims slightly off while reading article....???

    Hi all,
I have done a lot of research in this discussion, but couldn't find the resolution. The MBP display always dims slightly off while not in use for 1 minute. If I check off the setting in the Energy Saver/Option/"Automatically reduce the brightness.....", then display dims off completely (dark...)!! It's very annoying since ever time when I read an article without moving mouse for 1 minute, then the display dims off slightly. I have to keep moving the mouse so it doesn't dim off.
Does anyone have the same issue? Does anyone find any resolution?? I talked to the Genius guy and they said they don't know what to do about it....
    Thanks in advance.

Okay okay, I see what you're saying... I thought you were saying it goes off and doesn't come back on or something.
Anyways, this is normal behavior but it can be prevented. Go to energy saver preference panel. For both battery and adaptor, slide the "put displays to sleep after" slider all the way to the right, which is never. Make sure also under the options tab, that you uncheck the "reduce brightness..." box.

Actually my roommate has a MBP too... he has the same problem.... only takes 1 minute for the display to dim off (not completely, only dim off the brightness...) but he said it doesn't bother him. For me it is really annoying...

  • Imac display brightness has dropped

For the last few weeks, my 27" imac (2011) has been experiencing random flickering where the display would flicker between it's set brightness and medium brightness, but it was never something that I would be able to predict or trigger.  Then last night my display flickered and and stayed dimmer.
The display is still visibile and backlight still works, but at full brightness in a fairly dark room, the display is now noticably dimmer than it was before, where before hand in a dark room it was necessary to drop the brightness to below half to where now it is just right in a dark room, but in a lit room the display isn't quite bright enough.  Basically the display is not as bright as it used to be, any idea what it could be?

  • MBP Display fading

Has anyone noticed any fading on their MBP display? I have had mine for almost a year now and it seems that the outer portions of the display are not as bright as the rest of the display. It is especially noticeable after waking from sleep.

1080P= a resolution of 1920x1080 (so called full HD)
    720P= a resolution of 1280×720
If your display can drive those, then yes it's HD. In my 17"'s case, it's a 16:10 rather than 16:9 screen, so there will be a slight black band at the top and bottom for the extra pixels.

  • I am trying to connect mbp to tv using mini display port and HDMI cable TVtuned tocorrect port as shows Mac wallpaper (purple star scene) but does not show what is on MBP.  What can I try so that I can see mbp display on TV?

What do I needto do to connect a tv as an external display for my mbp using a mini display port to hdmi cable.  I have tried display without success.  tv is receiving a signal as displays apples default wallpaper when connected but nothing from screen of mbp.

Soundls like it is working. Try dragging a window on the MBP to the edge of the screen and see if it appears on the TV.
There are two ways to set up the TV one is to mirror the MBP display and the other is to be an extension of the MBP's screen.
You change the settings in System Preference->Display

  • Using a Second Display while MBP display is in Fullscreen use

I recently began using a second display consistently (something I only did sparingly in the past), and I was hoping to find out how to utilize my second display while running a fullscreen application on the MBP display (when in fullscreen, the second display is taken into fullscreen, but only with a solid black), and continue using everything else normally if situated on the second display.

Did you have a specific app or application in mind?

  • My MBP display is not working.  Need to move data to new MBP Retina.

    Hello.
My 3 yr old MBP display failed (display just showing vertical and horizontal lines).
I bought a new MBP Retina today.
Genius Bar told me to simply attach FireWire, then press "T" on old MBP to boot in Target Mode.
Then, look for old MBP HD icon on new MBP Retina desktop.
I cannot find old MBP icon on desktop.
I cannot transfer data from old MBP to new MBP Retina.
    Any help would be appreciated?
    Ken

Genius bar told you right - you need to start your old MBP up into target mode (booting while hold down the T key) but you need to have the right FireWire cable hooked up to the machines before you boot either. What year is your old model? Does it hve FW400 or FW800?
Here are the instructions from Apple - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661. Take a look at it and see if it helps. Also make sure that you have the Finder set so that external and remote disks will show up on your Desktop. When the disk mounts you can either just copy over files or, if you want to transfer accounts and associated directories, use Migration Assistant in your Utilities folder to copy over the info.
Good luck - call back if it's not working.

  • The display brightness on my macbook pro is not working

I just bought a macbook pro in June and the display brightness keys are not working, nor is there a scale I can find in the system preferences to adjust the lighting level across the screen. Why is that and how do I fix it?

Go to System Preferences>Displays. You can adjust brightness there. Also make sure that the "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as function keys" are unchecked in the Keyboard preferences.

  • MBP via HDMI to 24" monitor only runs the monitor not MBP display??

    I own a 2008 Macbook Pro 15" from 08.
Have used monitors in the past but none via HDMI.
Recently got an Asus VE247H 24" monitor.
Connectd via DVI or VGA it works with a terrible screen resolution but i can still use my MBP pro display as a second monitor.
When using HDMI the resolution is great at 1080P but i cannot use my MBP display as a second monitor.
When using HDMI to mini display port am i limited to just 1 monitor?

  • Default Display brightness is too high.

Hi, i am using latest B2G 2.2 [2014-10-08, flame phone]
    Default display brightness almost 90%,
Every time i update firmware, i set this value to 10%.
i think this value is too high, it consume more battery.

Hi, my point is default value is too high,
    it affect battery life.
user some time forget set this value,
so i think this value should be changed by default.
now, i set this value to 0%
indoor, i can see my flame screen clearly with 0%

  • X230 display brightness changes automatically

    Hi,
I have a problem when I'm using my X230 from battery: every know and then the display brightness changes, it gets lower (even without any user activity). Also it seems that the color profile also changes, colors look washed out. After few minutes or sometimes seconds, it goes back to normal. However, I have this issue quite often.
Is there a solution? Is it something to do with my power settings?
    Thank you.
