MBP Late 2007 Snow Leopard 10.6.8 finder randomly (but now always!) crashing current app still works, but can't change apps dialog: "application Finder can't be opened -10810". Any ideas?
Keyboard won't work after waking from sleep. Finder not working. When I hard restart, it works for a little while, but then the finder drops out on its own accord. The current app will still function nearly normally, but can't change apps. Can't quit any apps. Force Quit shows no apps?
All this has started in the last few days. Fine (if a little slow, too long on beach balls, but nothing like the one minute rolls I'm reading about ...) up until then. Only new update was last iTunes update! and I haven't opened iTunes?

Since I downloaded Snow Leopard on my iMac, my HP all-in-one C7280 scanner will not work. It says "scanner not found, scanner could not be initialized". Any ideas?
Hi,
I suggest uninstalling the printer drivers from your HP printer. The go to System Preferences> Printer & Fax and in the printer list box go ahead and reset the printing system. Do that by right clicking over the printer list box ad the option should appear. After that close system preferences and reinstall your printer drivers from the HP CD. After installation check if your printer works as expected, if it does, stop here and ignore the rest of the message.
If you don't have the install CDs for the printer or the previous step does not work; connect your printer to your Mac via USB and then again go to system preferences. Open the Print & Fax menu and in the printer list box you should see a "+" sign. Click on it, and a new window should appear with a list of printers that are available to you. If that's the case, go ahead click your printer name and wait for the computer to look in the Apple servers for the drivers. When searching is finished click the "install" button. This process will open software update and install the neccesary drivers.
After that, you should be able to scan documents with the Preview App.

You should certainly update it to 10.6.8 via software update. As for for upgrading, it depends on what Mac it is.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:

Check via Software Update whether further updates are required.

HELP!! i have a ton of videos of my boys stored in iPhoto..They played fine on my old OSX system (leopard). However, I just upgraded to snow leopard and then to mountain lion and now i can't open my videos at all anymore. HELP!!
Can you tell us about one or more of the video files - what are they? QuickTime? MP4? Something else? How did you create the video files in the first place?
I do a lot of video and when I upgraded to Snow Leopard I discovered that many of the QT videos that I had created previously (via iMovie & Final Cut) would not play correctly in QuickTime X - the bizarre behavior was that QT X acted as if my video files were only audio files! I reported this to Apple at the time but never heard anything back, and there hasn't been any change in later updates to QT X.
The solution was to (re)install QuickTime 7. But first look in your Applications > Utilities folder. When you upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, the installer normally moves the old QT 7 program to your Utilities folder. If it's there, try using QT 7 to play one of your video files. If QT 7 is not there, you can download and install it from here Make sure you are running at least OS X 10.6.3 before you install QT 7. It's even better if you make sure you are running 10.6.8 which was the last release of Snow Leopard. -
I'm trying to back up 10.6.8 (snow leopard) and all my files before upgrade to Mavericks. I have an old but sturdy external hard drive...how many GB available will I probably need to back up the whole thing? thanks!
You will need a separate partition unless you plan to use the entire drive. You will need an amount of space somewhat larger than the total space now used on your startup drive. If you select the startup drive's Desktop icon, then press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Used space will be shown in the topmost panel. Add a GB or two to that number to determine how much space you'll need for the backup.
Do not backup on a drive that has any files you want to keep. You can make a bootable backup as follows:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
the Source entry field.
6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive. -
I upgraded the operating system on my MacBook Pro from Snow Leopard to Lion via the web. Now I need to erase the hard drive and restore it to factory settings, so that I can pass it on. How do I accomplish this? When I insert the Mac OS X install disk, the only option is to erase the free space. Any insight would be appreciated.

Once you are running off of the DVD you will be able to do a clean install of SL
To boot off the DVD with the system up running Lion insert the DVD. Open Sytem Preferences->Startup Disk and select the DVD then restart the machine.

I recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard on my MacBook and I noticed that I have more capacity on the Macintosh HD than before the upgrade. I checked my files and applications and they are still on my computer and nothing appears to be missing. Before the upgrade I had around 111 GB capacity with around 10.50 GB available on the Mac HD but now after the upgrade I have 119 GB capacity and 20.92 GB available. Can capacity on the HD change after an OS upgrade?
No, but the upgrade removed unneeded PowerPC code and changed the way free space is determined.

I had OS 10.5.8 on my Macbook and couldn't run turbotax 2012 because of that. I purchased Snow leopard on CD and installed it. Now, about my ABOUT this mac says OS 10.6.8. Now, I can't print to my Lexmark z705. I get an error message with no explanation.
Unless there are drivers provided by Apple to work with the printer, you're out of luck. The latest drivers provided by Lexmark are for OS X 10.4 Intel. Unfortunately, this can happen when slightly older peripherals and newer software don't mesh.

I'm opening like Skype, AIM, Chrome the Memory Hog, Adobe Photshop and Illustrator... Its so slow! I tried Onyx, CleanMyMac, iFreeMemory or just purging but still i still have to restart to get it back to normal after closing all the applications... im not really impressed with the memory swapping thing,Even though my inactive RAM is like 2GB its so SloW! Anyone knows how to fix this problem?It's hard to say why your machine is slow, but that machine with 8 GB of RAM should not be slow. Could be any number of possible problems. 2007 Intel Imac, installed a new Hdd. Started up with the install disc but it doesn't find my Hdd when asking for a destination volume to install the Mac OS. The Hdd is recognized in system profiler. Any ideas?

The hard drive is not formatted, and it must be formatted in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" in order to install OS X.

I am running a late 2007 13" MacBook and when I check status of storage it is showing 88Gb of files but on Finder in Movies I cannot find more than 12-15 Gb where are the rest of the files?

That article did seem to confirm that it is not as straight forward as it might seem. Since then I have deleted some of the TV episodes I downloaded on iTunes and the available storage has increased, so I can only assume that when reviewing in finder the files for iTunes are not shown and it would appear one has to go into iTunes to delete them.
I guess I may need to set up an external hard drive to store TV series etc as long as it is easy to transfer between the external drive and the MAC and subsequently my iPad as well, but that is for another discussion.
