[solved] texlive-core 2013.30962-1 / fmtutil-sys

$pdflatex  foobar
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.5-1.40.14 (TeX Live 2013/Arch Linux)
restricted \write18 enabled.
---! /var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdftex/pdflatex.fmt doesn't match pdftex.pool
(Fatal format file error; I'm stymied)
...okay let's run
#fmtutil-sys --all
/usr/bin/fmtutil: line 395: /usr/share/texmf/texconfig/tcfmgr: No such file or directory
fmtutil: config file `fmtutil.cnf' not found.
...well the proper path would be
/usr/share/texmf-dist/texconfig/tcfmgr
according to the new texlive-core package
Guess the package needs a fix or am I missing something?!

Command line solution:
pacdiff && fmtutil-sys --all
and further reference.
To let pacdiff only work in /etc/texmf (where the issues occur) and not touch other .pacnew-files: Specify the directory where pacdiff should search via the environment variable 'DIFFSEARCHPATH' (see also pacdiff -h):
DIFFSEARCHPATH=/etc/texmf pacdiff && fmtutil-sys --all
This prevents from accidentally overwrite user-modified configuration files outside /etc/texmf, like /etc/fstab, /etc/pacman.conf and all the others.

  • Texlive-core 2013.30962-1 and latex2html 2008-2 incompatible?

    Hi,
    I was trying to make a tex document that was building ok before the texlive-updates. Now it generates an error:
    ! LaTeX Error: File `verbatimfiles.sty' not found.
    verbatimfiles.sty is part of the latex2html package which is installed on my system.
    I upgraded the texlive-most group to the version in testing and overwrote the old files with the pacnews before running "fmtutil --all"
    as root like stated here:
    https://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail … 25174.html
    So all should be done as needed.
    Bug?

  • Texlive-localmanager(-git) wants to overwrite texlive-core?

    I like the idea of texlive-localmanager in order to install or update local LaTeX packages. But I just tried to update the l3kernel CTAN package (an older version of which is offered by texlive-core), thinking that it would install the newer version locally (in ~/texmf). Instead, it will build a new pacman package texlive-local-l3kernel and ask to overwrite texlive-core:
    mhelvens@mhelvens-pc ~ % tllocalmgr install l3kernel
    Initializing ...
    l3kernel is already installed with texlive-core
    Do you want to update it locally? (Y/n) > Y

    That's obviously not OK. Is there a way to use tllocalmgr properly to update this kind of package?
    If not, is there another convenient interface to install CTAN packages locally?
    Or should I just keep doing it manually?
    Thanks!

    Hmm. Solved? I found THIS where someone did an ls-l on their /var/lib/texmf dir and it reported this:
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 Aug 23 17:36 /usr/share/texmf/ls-R -> /var/lib/texmf/ls-R-TEXMFMAIN
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Aug 23 17:36 /usr/share/texmf-texlive/ls-R -> /var/lib/texmf/ls-R-TEXLIVE
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Aug 23 17:36 /usr/share/texmf-texlive/ls-R -> /var/lib/texmf/ls-R-TEXLIVE
    That got me wondering if it was a symlink all along?
    Doing this worked for me:
    $ sudo ln -s /var/lib/texmf/arch/installedpkgs /usr/share/texmf-var/arch/installedpkgs
    $ tllocalmgr --forceupdate
    I'll link to this on the AUR and wait a few days for any posts about if this is, indeed, the solution or if there are other suggestions before marking it solved.

  • [solved] ams bibtex styles missing aber texlive-core uprade

    Hi,
    The new texlive-core 2009.14682-1 package does not include the ams bibtex styles amsalpha.bst, ams.bst.
    Any idea where I can find them now?
    solved: new version of texlive-core now includes these files

    Hi djszapi,
    the AL-package texlive-core does not contain ams.bst and amsalpha.bst.
    I suppose they should be in the texlive-core package as it contains other file of AMStex, the files had been present in the last version and the wiki pages state that it should be in this package.
    The files may have move to another AL-package, but I could not find any other.

  • [solved] texlive doesn't work correctly, when lmodern is used

    Hi!
    I've got a problem with texlive: When I use the package lmodern and my document contains mathematical symbols like integrals or sums or special chars like german umlauts, dvips and pdftex give me error messages and the symbols are not displayed correctly in the resulting document.
    Here an example .tex-file:
    \documentclass{scrartcl}
    \usepackage{amsmath}
    \usepackage{lmodern}
    \begin{document}
    $$\int_0^r e^{-x} \sin(x)\,\mathrm dx$$
    \end{document}
    dvips gives the following output:

    Also, a file named missfont.log is created and contains the following:
    mktexpk --mfmode ljfour --bdpi 600 --mag 1+0/600 --dpi 600 lmex10
    mktexpk --mfmode ljfour --bdpi 600 --mag 1+0/600 --dpi 600 lmmi8

    mktexpk --mfmode ljfour --bdpi 600 --mag 1+0/600 --dpi 600 lmsy8
    mktexpk --mfmode ljfour --bdpi 600 --mag 1+57/600 --dpi 657 rm-lmr10
    I used lmodern several times in the past and it worked correctly. Maybe some update lead to this...
    Can anyone confirm this problem or give some hints, how to solve this problem? I tried reinstalling all texlive packages, updmap, fmtutil...
    Thanks for help!
    Michael
    EDIT:
    Reinstalling all texlive packages didn't help. But uninstalling them, deleting all files in /usr/share/texmf* and reinstalling them did help. I don't know why, but the problem is solved. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    The way some TeX-related font packages use updmap-sys to update TeX's font database (/etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg) may cause this problem. For me, minionpro started to give similar 'missfont' errors when I upgraded texlive-latexextra.
    I don't know the right/best way to handle TeX fonts and use updmap-sys in install files, however installing *.maps files into the /var/lib/texmf/arch/installedpkgs/ directory seems to be a more robust solution than calling updmap-sys with '--enable Map' or '--enable MixedMap' options. Adapting the code used in the build files of texlive-latexextra for minionpro solved the problem for me.
    The steps I did:
    Create *.maps file (minionpro.maps).
    Modify  the PKGBUILD (modified minionpro PKGBUILD):
    Add '$pkgname.maps' to the 'source' variable.
    Add these lines to the top of the build() function:
    install -m755 -d $pkgdir/var/lib/texmf/arch/installedpkgs
    install -m644 $pkgname.maps $pkgdir/var/lib/texmf/arch/installedpkgs/
    Update the 'md5sums' variable.
    Modify  the install file to use the *.maps file when updating TeX's font database (modified minionpro.install).
    I hope this helps to solve problems related to other TeX fonts as well.

    Anyone can help me tracing in which package the missing file is located (if it's not in compiz-core)?
    Last edited by dexgeh (2012-10-16 17:58:39)

    I managed to solve the issue commenting the --indirect-rendering flag and installing and launching driconf to create a default ~/.drirc file.
    I just noticed that in the same upgrade I got intel-dri from 8.x to 9.x version, maybe it's related.
    Launching a terminal in .xinitrc and manually launching
    LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose compiz --debug --replace ccp
    show me a lot of errors, but it's working, and I don't need anymore the --indirect-rendering flag (in the past I put that flag in the command because of the bad performance that compiz had without).

  • [SOLVED] TeXLive: Installing font package and updating font map fails

    I am trying to install the newtx package, which is available here at CTAN [1].
    Since I don't want to mess with my TeXLive installation, I am trying to do that as a local user only.
    So I placed the package into ~/texmf/tex/latex/. , ran texhash on texmf/ to update my local ls-R, and so far everything works nicely; for example, the .sty files in that package can be seen:
    $ texhash texmf
    texhash: Updating /home/$USER/texmf/ls-R...
    texhash: Done.
    $ kpsewhich newtxmath.sty
    /home/$USER/texmf/tex/latex/newtx/newtxmath.sty
    Now, following the packages README [2], I need to update the my TeX font maps. Seems like 'updmap' is the right tool to do that for my user only:
    $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map
    copy /etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg => /home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg
    Config file: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg"
    dvips output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/dvips/updmap"
    pdftex output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap"
    dvipdfm output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/dvipdfm/updmap"
    pxdvi output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/pxdvi/updmap"
    /usr/bin/updmap is creating new map files
    using the following configuration:
    LW35 font names : URWkb
    prefer outlines : true
    texhash enabled : true
    download standard fonts (dvips) : true
    download standard fonts (pdftex) : true

    ERROR: The following map file(s) couldn't be found:
    ntx.map
    Did you run mktexlsr?
    You can delete non-existent map entries using the option
    --syncwithtrees.
    That's my problem: it can't find ntx.map, although I ran mktexlsr (which is texhash). So what to do?
    1: http://www.ctan.org/pkg/newtx
    2: http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/mirrors/CTAN … wtx/README
    SOLUTION: The trick consists in placing all files into the necessary folders: *.map goes to fonts/map/newtx/, *.vf to fonts/vf/newtx/, and *.tfm to fonts/tfm/newtx/. Also, *.pfb needs to be placed in fonts/pfb/newtx/. *.enc files go to fonts/enc/newt/, and everything else remains in tex/latex/newtx/.

    ConnorBehan wrote:Oh it's part of the mlocate package. It will search your entire filesystem for a filename but there are other programs that do the same. I just meant, can you find ntx.map yourself? If so, you could put it in a new directory or let tex know with the TEXINPUTS environment variable.
    I really don't think that this makes a lot of sense as regards TeXlive; I have checked (with kpsewhich --var-value) if indeed all variables TEXMFHOME, TEXMFVAR, and TEXMFCONFIG are pointing to reasonable places, and indeed they do.
    I have found this guide:
    http://people.debian.org/~preining/TeX/ … n/ch4.html
    Although it is Debian, I figure one can easily adapt it. So I tried that, and placed ntx.map in TEXMFHOME/fonts/map/$SYNTAX/newtx/ntx.map . I wasn't sure about $SYNTAX, so I just tried it with dvips. This time, $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map did actually work, and there were not errors:
    $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map
    copy /etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg => /home/janis/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg

    I've just installed texlive-extrafonts but I can't use kpfonts.

    \usepackage{kpfonts}

  • [solved] texlive problem - supertabular environment not recognized

    Hey!
    I want to use supertabular but actually it's not working… I cannot see why.
    kpsewhich supertabular.sty
    /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/supertabular/supertabular.sty
    There shouldn't be problems with permissions also:
    ls -la $(kpsewhich supertabular.sty)
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 14K Jun 26 08:01 /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/latex/supertabular/supertabular.sty
    It should be installed inside of http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra … atexextra/
    pacman -Qs texlive-latexextra
    local/texlive-latexextra 2012.26807-1 (texlive-most)
    TeX Live - Large collection of add-on packages for LaTeX
    So it is. I also ran
    sudo texhash
    several times but it's still not recognized. My LaTeX Editor is latexila from AUR if this somehow important.
    Maybe someone have an idea? I'd love to hear some ideas on this since I'm confused all over…
    Cheers!

    Yes, for sure Trilby! Sorry, I don't know how to entitle this thread exactly since I don't get what goes wrong here…
    Some sample file I tried to compile that failed @ line 11 where "supertabular" occurs:
    http://sprunge.us/HGbH?latex
    or
    \documentclass[a4paper,11pt]{article}
    \usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
    \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
    \usepackage{lmodern}
    \title{foo}
    \author{bar}
    \begin{document}
    \begin{supertabular}{rrrr}
    1 & 1 & 1 & 1 \\
    2 & 4 & 16 & 2 \\
    3 & 9 & 81 & 6 \\
    4 & 16 & 256 & 24 \\
    \end{supertabular}
    \end{document}
    Any ideas?
    EDIT: Totally forgot…
    ! LaTeX Error: Environment supertabular undefined.
    See the LaTeX manual or LaTeX Companion for explanation.
    Type H <return> for immediate help.
    l.11 egin{supertabular}
    {rrrr}
    This is the most helpful error I get at the moment…
    Oh shit… I found the error… missing usepackage… whoupadoup! xD
    Sorry for that big trouble. Marked as solved.

  • [SOLVED] calibre core dump

    calibre was updated today - along with a few other updates.
    Now when I try and run calbre I get
    $ calibre

    One of the other application installed as part of the package gives the same
    $ ebook-viewer
    10117 illegal hardware instruction (core dumped) ebook-viewer
    Since they are just python2 packages I tried
    $ python2
    Python 2.7.5 (default, Sep 6 2013, 09:55:21)
    [GCC 4.8.1 20130725 (prerelease)] on linux2
    Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
    >>>
    So that's OK.
    I've tried re-installing calibre and I've tried downgrading to a previous version package but I still have the same problem.
    Any ideas what to do?

    Thanks - I did try searching but wasn't able to find anything that looked relevant.
    Downgrading imagemagick (6.8.7.4-1 => 6.8.7.2-1) did fix my problem.
    Sorry - I obviously suck at search
    EDIT: It seems imagemagick has been fixed already - upgrading to 6.8.7.4-2 also works!

  • [solved] TeXlive 2009 texexec doesn't work

    I did a fresh install of TeXlive 2009 via pacman (texlive-most). When I try to run texexec I get this message:
    $ texexec testfile.tex
    MTXrun | kpse fallback with progname 'context' initialized in 0.03 seconds
    Have I missed anything in post-install configuration? Do I need some other packages to use ConTeXt?
    Where should I search for solution (I did here and on the web)?
    Thanks for some hints.

    See http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/20407 (run luatools --generate) to avoid the problem.
    Additionally, I had to install ruby to get texexec to work.

    Thank you all for your fast replies
    I discovered this "issue" while reading that they were considering dropping i686 support for arch linux and I was starting to wonder if I should get a new laptop: good news for me is that my laptop will have some more time to go then, bad news is that when installing arch linux from the live image I messed things a bit: it is now obvious that I choose the wrong option so I have to reinstall.
    Thanks for the link to switch the architecture from within a running system: while interesting (and a little bit unproven/untested as I see) I think reinstalling from scratch (while time-consuming) will solidify my knowledge or arch —as someone pointed out in an older post: to mess things up is to learn something new.

  • [solved] error: core.db appears to be truncated: 1249/0 bytes

    Hi arch'ers,
    i run arch linux on my laptop for some time now and are very satisfied.
    And now try to install it on my desktop pc on a dedicated harddisk.
    After booting x86_64 live-cd (newest), partitioning, create filesystems + mounting for  every mirror|url from the /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist i get this:
    example
      "debug: url: http://mirror.de.leaseweb.net/archlinux … 64/core.db "
      "debug: maxsize: 26214400"
      "debug: opend tempfile for download: /var/lib/pacman/sync/core.db.part (wb)"
      "downloading core.db..."
      "debug: curl returned error 0 from transfer"
      "debug: response code 200"
      "error: core.db appears to be truncated: 1249/0 bytes"
    i don't have any files under /var/lib/pacman/sync and it's writeable.
    i don't think it's related with https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/23803 because it's the same for all urls in the mirrorlist.
    Network is up and running
    any hints?

    It had something to do with our network / internet access here. I had to register first.
    After that, all downloads worked.
    sorry for bothering you

    It is part of the latex2html package in extra.
    BTW: Use "pkgfile" (in the pkgfile package) to find out to which package a given (missing) file belongs.

  • Does all issues on MBP 15 Retina display solved on Early 2013 products?

    As the topic said. I'm thinking to buy MBP 15 Retina baseline in Thailand by this Feb. as it is my last chance of getting educational price (I'm graduating in April). As I've read many of issues. So, I want to know does all display issues are solved? Or if not how can I pick the one better one (S one)? Is it fine asking the shop to check wheter it's Samsung or not before buying?  And how can I check?  I know i've been asking a lot of questions but, since I'll spend a huge krant.
    Thank you all inadvance,

    Some issues - particularly screen image retention - seem to be remaining in the current builds of the rMBP. If I were you, I would purchase a non-Retina at this time and possibly wait for a 2nd generation Retina machine to come out later in the year that may not have the IR problems - if you want to get educational pricing before April.
    Just too many issues with the rMBP at this time for me... I can wait.
