MBP start up problems :( read many advices, but need more please help!
Hi, I have a year old MBP, I recently received a new battery from Apple through the battery exchange program. And I also bought a new RAM 2GB and added it on.
Recently, about 3 days ago, I noticed that I was having trouble starting up my mac os. A day later, it would not start up. However, using bootcamp, my Windows XP runs fine without any problems, although I have gotten one of those blue screens in the middle of studying.
These are the list of things I've done and tried:
1. PRAM reset - did not help
2. Removed ram individually and plugged it in different arrangements to see if it was a RAM problem - did not help
3. Repair permissions + disk - I tried this, it got stuck about 3/4 of the way, and it would not complete the process after 2 hours.
4. Archive and Install - I had an error during the process and could not continue.
5. fsck - I also had an error in the way, saying something about volume
6. Finally, the hardware test, I did not have any problems in my hardware.
Unfortunately, I am running out of ideas, if anyone can give me an advice on how to fix it, please help me!

You never did update your profile or at least answer the question about exactly what model of MBP you are attempting to use and what version of operating system it is running so you are forcing us to guess at answers.
From the sounds of what you have done so far to me it is sounding like your hard drive is on it's last legs. If data is getting badly corrupted that quickly, it is usually a sign that sectors are going bad at a very fast rate. If it were mine, I would scan it for bad sectors with Tech Tools Pro or a similar utility.

I checked for an optical drive update, but the only one I found was for older Macs for 4X DVDs, which had nothing to do with CDs. Since even music discs won't mount, nor will discs that mount on every other Mac in the house, Macs both older and newer than my G5 and discs both older and newer, I suspect my drive is toast. Help with ichat errors-have read recent topics but need more help
Hi, I have searched the topics in here and have seen a lot of different answers to this, but I am not sure where to begin since they seem so complicated. I am trying to get ichat to work with a colleague and we get the -8 error. I am using a linksys 54 router. Can someone give me a simple answer as to where to begin to fix this? Thank you

There is no simple answer.
It depends on what details are in the log for your Error 8 as to where to suggest you look and change settings.
In Broad terms Error 8 is about ports not being open or a NAT issue between you end and the other.
1) Use UPnP in modems and routers where you can.
2) If the Mac firewall is On set the iChat ports as there is no preset.
3) make sure the ports are allowed in your modem and or router if you don't have UPnP
4) do not have two devices issuing DHCP IP addresses.
5) If the log is essentially blank after the last error 8 and the start of Binary Images the problem could be your ISP or any VoIP device you have.
That should start you off for the next set of questions

Since updating to iOS 6, my 4th gen iPod touch, and my 3rd gen iPad has sound in and out. Sometimes it's on, and then all of a sudden, no sound. I've tried everything from restarting to fully resetting each one starting fresh, but nothing. Please help.
I have exactly the same problem. I have tried almost everything and I am nowhere near an Apple shop as I am working in Africa.

I have started migration système to transfert from hold Macbook pro to New MacBook air
Application starter successfully for several hours.
But since more than 3 hours I got the message "transferring Time zone paramètres " with time left less than 1 minute.
Any recommendation or suggestion to solve it ?
Many tanksIf it has run for 3 hours it's probably done and you can quit Migration Assistant and reboot the new computer. In the future rather than using Migration Assistant I would recommend using Startup Assistant which tends to be a bit more reliable and does not create a new user account as MA does. Patience and try, try again. It worked for me after trying 50+ times for 30 minutes.. felt like forever but really not that bad. It's updating as we speak.

You must be using an update CD. You need the software that has the full version first - install that, then you can use the update one if needed. I know, cuz I made the same mistake - lol

Hello, the 'Save As' dialog box used to allow the backspace button to go up one level in the directory when the focus is in the folder contents box but it does not work any more, please help. BTW the same 'Save As' dialog in other applications still allow the backspace button to go up one level in the directory.

I kept forgetting and procrastinating about following your instructions, since I have internet access only for limited amounts of time and usually I am busy with important tasks when I am.
Out of the blue, the problem corrected itself (the Save As box started to open full screen, then shrunk down to a normal size and the edges can now be dragged to a custom size).
Even the copy and paste problem in the filenaming area seems to have been less troublesome lately even though there have been no updates to Firefox in a few weeks.
Even though I marked the solution as not helpful, the problem has in fact been resolved. I will save the solution instructions in case the issue returns. -
i cant use the highlight, underline, or strikethrough function in a specific pdf file. The file isnt locked. I used to highlight texts from that file before the latest update. The problem occurs only with that file. Urgent need. Please help. Thanks!

Do you know when this problem (for not being able to add new highlight/strikeout/underline) has started? Did you update your iOS from 7.x to 8.0 recently?

im running XP with all firewalls and pop up blockers off. Ive tried using chrome, firefox, and IE. no download starts and im redirected to the thank you screen, please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ive read all related articles, aswers and solutions but cant seem to get tunes to download?
Ive tried from my PC, and ive tried from another which runs Vista. Both pc's were tried using firefox, IE and chrome,and both had firewalls off and pop-ups allowed completely (I basically turned off all security). I checked for 3rd party software which could also cause "blocks" but all 3rd party software were eliminated. I even tried stopping and restarting windows installer in "computer management; services, services". Still no luck..... This is the first time that ive struggled downloading Itunes. The reason im trying to download itunes is because im attempting to restore my iphone 4.....
