MBPR hogs all the bandwidth
My new MBPR is hogging all the office bandwidth, the other computers are pcs and mainly use a cable connection. If the retinas wifi is on regardless of whether I use the internet in any way everyone elses internet crawls, how can I control this?
Figured it out just have to turn on the firewall

Is this possible?
I have a brand new time capsule, my wife and I will be backing up our computers to it using Time Machine. Is it possible to limit the storage size of the sparsebundles so one of us (probably me) wont hog all the space?
My wife doesn't use her's as much, while my computer is on almost everyday, so I'm affraid my computer will limit the amount of states, or versions, that she can back up before her time machine has to start deleting old files.
I'm trying to avoid a situation where my time machine goes back a year while her's only goes back a few months.
Thanks! No. That is not how a Time Capsule and Time Machine work. All backups are adding to existing backups.
About TM "Backup Drive is Full"
Alert TM only deletes older files if they have been deleted from the source and when TM needs space on the backup drive for a new incremental backup. Time Machine "thins" it's backups; hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first of the day; those "daily" backups over 30 days old, except the first of the week. The weeklies are kept as long as there's room.
So, how long a backup file remains depends on how long it was on your Mac before being deleted, assuming you do at least one backup per day. If it was there for at least 24 hours, it will be kept for at least a month. If it was there for at least a week, it will be kept as long as there's room.
Note, that on a Time Capsule the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but doesn't shrink. Thus, from the user's view of the TC it appears that no space has been freed, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.
Once TM has found it cannot free up enough space for a new backup it reports the disk is full. You can either erase the backup drive and start your backups anew or replace the drive with a larger drive.
To accomplish what you want would mean using just an external backup drive partitioned with volumes for each of you to use, and the use of a different backup utility that overwrites old files rather than saving them as does Time Machine. -
Android TV steals all the bandwidth!
Hi everyone, need a little help please! My problem is that my wireless speed at home is around 12 MB which I am happy with but the minute I turn on my MX Android TV box, my speed goes to 0.1 MB on all devices connected to my network, including my android TV box! I had a home hub 2 , changed to a HH3 and have had the problem with both routers. I have trawled the internet looking for a solution but no joy, any ideas please? Thanks in advance!!
Hi everyone,
had this problem for a couple of weeks now and I can't figure it out. I bought an android tv box in September and it's been working fine until a few weeks ago. Every time I turned it on, my broadband speed went from 13Mb to less than 0.5 then returned to 13 the minute I turned the box off. My broadband light would flash orange most of the time when the box was on so I presumed that my router was faulty since it was about 7 years old. I have replaced it with a homehub 3 now and I'm having the exact same problem! I've done a factory reset on the android tv box and also on my new router but no luck. I have turned off smart wireless and I am wondering if anyone knows of any setting which could be making ths happen? The weird thing is, it's not like the box is getting all the bandwidth. It says it's connected to my wireless network yet menus etc take ages to load and I can't stream anything.
Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks in advance

My MacBook Pro (late 2011, core i-7) running OS X 10.10.4 is running hot and very slow with the fan screaming . Activity Monitor shows a process called com.hp.devicemodel.TransportProxy is hogging almost all the memory and very high CPU activity. How can I get it to stop. Force quit will not shut it down. I would delete the file, but don't know where it is. Can someone please offer some help? Thanks, Tom
Try to uninstall all HP software (should be in Macintosh HD/Applications/HP folder It should have an uninstaller within that folder. My computer settled down just as soon as I finished the uninstall. Went back into the system preferences and reinstalled my printer and everything seems OK now. Hope it works for you.

Hulu takes up all the bandwidth - other users frozen out
I've got a Time Capsule N router (not the current generation, the one just before it). I can't figure out why, but if someone on the network is watching Hulu, then the net goes down for everyone else (specifically me! lol). It's so strange. Once Hulu stops, then either I have to unplug the Time Capsule and plug it back in, or I have to wait about 5 minutes before it starts working again for me.
Thoughts? This is "normal" behaviour for an internet connection and not really any fault of the Time Capsule.
Basically Hulu is taking all the internet bandwidth, stopping everyone else from using the connection.
You could configure the person's computer on the network to restrict their bandwidth so that it isn't monopolising the bandwidth when running.
A fair few ways to do this. -
Apple downloads sucking all the bandwidth
This may seem like a really stupid question. Everytime I download software updates or new podcasts etc through itunes, they totally take up pretty much all my bandwidth to the point I cant browse web pages or even use an IM client. Is there some way I can make it so these things dont eat up all my bandwidth because Im finding I have to just leave these things go overnight as my mac mini is rendered pretty much useless in terms of internet connectivity till they finish.
Unless you get some very powerful, commercial level hardware and software you are not going to be able to control bandwidth usage. However, it seems to me that something else is going on. sig is right, multitasking while installing a operating system update is a real risk. But even with a 50 meg update, it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes on a 512 DSL connection. Same with pod casts.
Take a look at your Activity Monitor, what is the page in/out count, how full is your hard drive? -
Sick and Tired Of Having My $4000 MBPR Crash All The Time
I'm fed up with all theses crashes.
Firefox crashes all the time (5-10 times a day)
Screenflow crashes when I record skype call.
Skype crashes on it's own.
And when I type things sometimes it gets so slow that it takes 2-3 seconds for the text to appear. ****, this is the THIRD time I try to post this help message but the Macbook Pro keeps on crashing.

27in iMac taking all the bandwidth
New 27in iMac running wireless on a D-Link DGL-4500 router. Every time the iMac is turned on, the Xbox, which is wired into the router, has instant signal drop rendering it unplayable. I have changed the QOS settings to give the Xbox priority and still no difference...
Doesn't sound like anything wrong in the setup..
Turn off your computer and see if your brother then gets his fair share of the bandwidth.. if so just setup the QoS in the Asus to give you each a fair share of the bandwidth.. I do not have that model asus but they should have reasonable ability to control at least different connections to a different router.
If you keep having issues give us a few screenshots of the setup of the TC and a bit of the Asus as well. -

How to globally limit the bandwidth of FMS 3.5
Hi all,
Can you give me a hint on how to solve this or confirm me the following ?
Is it possible to limit globally the bandwidth usage of FMS 3.5 ?
I don't want FMS to use all the bandwidth available via our ISP.
I want my coworkers and other servers to be able to continue using Internet while sending/receiving data from/to FMS
I know it is possible to limit various bandwidths per Applications, but it seems there is no easy way - using the xml config files - to globally limit the server bandwidth.Ok I could compute a limit per app, but it is not a long terme solution to modify all the config files each time a new applications is to be installed.
So I think it is not possible to easily limit globally the bandwidth of FMS.
Do you agree with me ?
If not, how did you manage this : do you have an example, some code ?
Thanks for your answers
FredThanks for the try, though I'd hope you aimed at a another solution
I think your proposition is not possible this way, because:
(It is for streaming only )
1) say we have a BW of 100 [Mb/s] available for this FMS.
2) the individual bw needed by the media files (indbw) within an application ranges from 200 [kb/s] to 2000[kb/s] (some files are audio, others medium quality video, some good quality video)
3) the BandwidthCap (in application.xml) is per connection within the application. (to simplify the talk we choose a BandwidthCap = indbw )
4) the MaxConnections (in vhost.xml) is per vhost
The question is "which indbw one chooses to divide the available 100 [Mb/s] BW" : ( MaxConnections = BW divided by BandwidthCap )
Two possibilities:
A) Let's take audio only indbw, that's 200 [kb/s], then FMS can serve 500 connections
B) Let's take good quality vid indbw, that's 20000 [kb/s], then FMS would be limited to 50 connections.
Both ways are not good : in A) we risk jamming the internet link if too many of the connections are in fact streaming video, in B) we can not serve enough people and will likely waste some BW sinc not all clients will stream good quality video.
Does anyone has another hint about " how to globally limiting the bandwidth of Flash Media Server 3.5" ? -
Repositories/Mirrors/FTP -- who pays for the bandwidth?
Hey, maybe a silly question
But ever since I've started with linux in 05, i've always wondered who pays for all the bandwidth as in where the binaries are hosted and source code. I'm just one user but i've probably downloaded a lot TB's since 05 for free.
I know there's various donation projects etc on most distributions, but that can't be enough to cover all the monthly downloads right?
I know bandwidth is cheap nowdays compared to say 10 years ago, but still i'm willing to bet the most used archlinux mirrors is generating a lot of load.Yeah. Gotta love the universities. Especially when you're like me and have one only a few miles away hosting Arch, FreeBSD, KDEmod, Debian, Ubuntu, Gentoo... everything Hooray for downloading everything at 1MB/s (download cap)!
I would like to know though, where does the money for Arch's main server come from though? I know Arch takes donations, but how much has to be footed after that? Etc. -
The more download streams I get going at the same time, the slower each stream gets. Rather than waiting for [all] of them to download before I can watch [any] of them, I would rather have them download one at a time - each in it's turn taking all the bandwidth so as to download as quickly as possible. When the first is done, the downloader would automatically start the next download, etc. Like the way the playlist works in VLC Media Player or Windows Media Player.
Seems like an obvious thing for people to want to do. I have a couple theories on why downloader add-ons do not offer this. Curious to know if I'm right about it. Thanks for your help.HI Invent,
In fact, there is a way to donwload one video by one, at least in the add-on I know and use (Video Download Helper - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper)
There, you have to configure it in the Add-on Menu, clicking the the 'Options' button of Video Download Helper, then in the window that pops up you choose "Services" , then 'Download' tab and change the first field (probably called 'Download Mode' in English - I have it here it here in Portuguese now), change it to 'One by one'
If you have doubts in the process, just let me know and I will try to clarify it to you.
Hope it helps.
Best Regards,
Marcus -
I am using Hughes satellie for my internet provider. I am having a problem using all my bandwidth each day. Is there a way from using this bandwidth. I am using even when I am not using my computer. Is there a way to turn off things that are running in the background.
It depends a lot on what you have installed and what apps you run. Here's a suggestion: Get Little Snitch and see what processes are accessing your internet connection.

I am running iOS 4.3.5 and this has been going on for months now. I need to keep my task manager open to kill the task when I connect and disconnect my iphone or ipad. It hogs all of my cpu, sometimes opening 2 or 3 windows media players.
Sorry, just to confirm, I DID NOT ACTUALLY ANSWER MY OWN QUESTION!
I replied to the previous message from my iphone and I managed to hit the link to "This has answered my question" by accident!
I AM STILL LOOKING FOR A RESOLUTION TO MY ORIGINAL PROBLEM. CAN SOMEONE ALSO NIW TELL ME HOW TO GET RID OF THE GREEN TEXT TGAT SAYS TGAT MY QUESTION IS ANSWERED? That is a pain! It should at least ask you to confirm that your question is actually answered and you didn't hit it by mistake, like I did! -
Why does iTunes use 100% CPU all the time, hogging my Macbook Air?
Decided to post this here instead of the iTunes forum, since it might be related to hardware too.
New owner of a 2011 13" Macbook Air, core i5 based.
My problem started about 1 week ago, after it had run out of power completely one day. At the first boot after that it was incredibly sluggish, totally unusable. After waiting for 5 minutes and still being unresponsive, I turned it off and then back on. Then it booted fine. HOWEVER, ever since that time I noticed the following behavior:
- iTunes stays at 100% + CPU all the time, mostly between 100-120%. Even if it's not playing. Even when I deleted the entire library and left it empty.
- iStats reports CPU idle between 50-65%. However, CPU temperature is still about 55 degrees C (which, I think, is far less than what it should have been with 50% idle cpu). I can confirm the low temperature by touching the chasis.
- the cursor freezes and jumps every few seconds, making the mac kind of unusable with iTunes open.
This has been going on for 2 weeks now. The problem goes away every now and then (iTunes sometimes goes back to regular CPU usage of 3-5%), but most of the time it's there.
Help!
P.S.
Mac OX X 10.7.2
iTunes 10.5.2Cee Pee You, is a OS modification. Apple recommends that you un-install these prior to a OS update because Apple makes changes to the OS all the time which breaks programs like these.
I avoid Unsanity LLC products like the plague. Notice the company is a Limited Liability Corporation (LLC), which makes it difficult to sue the company in case of a defective or malicious product. So the risk using their products is all yours. Their APE framework modules have been used for malicious purposes because anyone can write a module that uses the APE framework.
I also avoid installing anything that requires a administrative password unless I completely trust the source, like Apple mostly. That admin password is the key to the security of our machines, not to be given out lightly or carelessly.
You'll have to contact Unsanity's [email protected] because what I'm reading online is it's very difficult to remove as it doesn't "exist".
