MDT 2013 - Language to Install missing

Hello,
I am currently preparing and testing my first MDT deployment at work. Up to now we have been using WDS with custom images and unattend files.
I have set up the MDT deployment share and imported a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit installation from an original MS ISO.
I have made some changes to the customsettings.ini file but I am not able to automate the locale screen. I need it to install United Kingdom English but the default selection is empty and it only allows me to manually choose US. My ini below:

Hi,
Yes, this depends on the language resource:

  • MDT 2013 - Errors on Install Operating System

    Hi,
I have previously been using batch files to deploy our WIM files using ImageX.
I'm trying to make them work with MDT 2013 now and thought I had it all working.
I can happily deploy the image to a HP Pro 6200 desktop PC and told my colleagues to start using it.
The first PC they tried to do was a HP ProDesk 600 G1 EFF - and disaster, the process fails! I made sure I had the latest drivers and it made no difference. There are several errors shown in the output: 0x80004005, 0x80004004 and 000015F8.
The MDT server is running as a guest inside VMware. I did a little testing and if I try to run the task sequence in a VM on the same host its fine, but if I move that VM to the other (identical) host it doesn't work.
I started pinging the MDT server from the ProDesk 600 and the response times are usually <1ms, but they randomly jump up, to 28ms in one case, although didn't watch for long.
Has anyone else encountered anything like this? Going to try manoeuvring everything to be within the one switch next.

Do you have log files? Please define the process fails. Where is it failing.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 MDT 2013 Install Features after OS Install

I have a question in regards to installing Features on Windows Servers Post OS Install/OSD.
I have MDT 2013 integrated with SCCM 2012 R2. I have created a MDT TS doing the following:
Microsoft Deployment Custom Task Sequence (All other ones were for OSD)
I removed all the steps in the TS except for the "Use Toolkit Package"
Added Several MDT Sequence for Install Roles and Features, Selected SNMP for Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2008 R2 Core, 2012, 2012 R2.
Removed the boot image since it is not needed.
    Deployed to my Test Collection.
I see the TS Running on the test servers but when I check Server Manager the SNMP is still not installed even though software center shows installed on the TS.
Am I missing something here? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!!

Disregard my previous post. I was tinkering with the Compliance Settings and corrected my ignorance.
    Here were my steps:
    Create Configuration Item
General: Put the name, Set Type to Window, filter set to "Server"
Supported Platforms: All servers 2008 and newer
    Settings: Name,
    Discovery Script -PowerShell
    $FeatureName = "SNMP-Service"
    If (Get-WindowsFeature | Where {$_.State -eq "Enabled" -and $_.FeatureName -eq $FeatureName})
        $Compliance = "Compliant"
    Else {
        $Compliance = "NonCompliant"
    Return $Compliance
    Remediation Script - PowerShell
    $FeatureName = "SNMP-Service"
    Import-Module ServerManager
    Install-WindowsFeature -Name $FeatureName -IncludeAllSubFeature
Compliance Rule: Name, Rule Type = Value, Must Comply Equals Compliant, Checked Run remediation script when not compliant, set Reports to Information
Created Config Baseline, Assigned Config Item for SNMP Service and then deployed to my Servers.

  • Install Roles and Features Behavior MDT 2013

I'm setting up a Task Sequence in MDT 2013 to try out installing Windows 8.1 for the first time. We need to add .NET Framework 3.5 so I thought I'd add a Install Roles and Features step in the State Restore section to take care of that.
When I kick off the Task Sequence, I now see a new dialog that shows the Install Roles and Features for me to choose from. Didn't I just create a step for this? Why is it showing up asking me for my choices when I already specified what I needed? I thought
maybe I messed up adding the step in my Task Sequence but after checking, it's still there enabled. Will .NET try and install twice now?  I have never seen the new dialog before.
After some testing I found that if I disabled the step I added, I no longer get the Install Roles and Features dialog at the beginning. Is this expected behavior or am I missing something?
    Orange County District Attorney

Sandy, this is known behavior when adding Roles and Features from the task sequence. Leave your TS step as is and add
    SkipRoles=YES to the customsettings.ini file.

  • MDT 2013 Windows 8.1 application install with reboot problem

    Hello!
I have a problem with an application install on Windows 8.1. I'm trying to install two applications and have activated "Reboot the computer after installting this application" for the first application. After rebooting the deployment window does
not show up agagin. BDD.log shows, that the deployment starts after the reboot but seems to hang, before the UI shows.
I tried to install this two applications under Windows 7, which works without any problems.
Here is the BDD.log for the failed deployment: http://pastebin.com/PbUH1LUq
Can anyone confirm this problem with MDT 2013 and Windows 8.1? Any ideas how to fix this?
Additional information: Further testing showed, that this problem just occurs, if the application install gets started separately after deploying the OS. If the applications are installed in one deployment together with the OS, everything works fine.

I did the same install on Windows 7, which worked without any problems. Here is the log file: http://pastebin.com/Qgn2PzyC
    To make it clear:
If I run a Lite Touch Install task sequence to install Windows 8.1 and install the two applications within this LTI, everything works fine. The computer reboots after installing the first application and the deployment goes on and finishes successfully after
    the reboot.
If I first install Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 via LTI and then (after LTI successfully finished) start a separate application install (using a custom task sequence with only one "Install Application" task in it), everything works fine with Windows
7 (installation continues and finishes after the reboot) but fails with Windows 8.1.
In Windows 8.1 the computer reboots after installing the first application, but after rebooting, the installation does not start again.
Keith, as you said, my environment is corrupted, I created an new fresh deployment share, just added the two test applications and the custom task sequence and tried again. Same result, Windows 7 works fine, Windows 8.1 fails by not starting the installation
    after the reboot.

I have narrowed this issue down to .net 3.5 install.
I have boot, efi, sources, support, autorun, bootmgr, bootmgr.edi, and setup.
I have confirmed that the sxs folder is there.
I also just added WindowsSource=%DeployRoot%\Operating Systems\Windows Server 2012 R2 SERVERSTANDARDCORE x64\sources\sxs to my customsettings and updated the boot iso.  I am still receiving the errors.
One last bit of information I am able to get to the deployment share with the sxs folder in it from the reference machine I am creating but when I manually try to install .net 3.5 from roles and features to the share it fails. But if I copy the files local
    they work fine.
I seem to have permission issues with other subfolders also.
    Thanks,

  • Install SCCM Client Post Install via MDT 2013

I want to know best practice on how to install the SCCM client via MDT 2013 as a post install task sequence? Im deploying a lot of machines via MDT offline USB....
Is it grabbing the ccmsetup folder and using the following command line?
    ccmsetup.exe /noservice /MP:<insert> SMSSITECODE=<insert> smscachesize=10000

There's no such thing as a "best practice" for most real-world tasks; real-world is different for everyone which means you need to know the details and choose the right things for your environment.
You need to run the command-line that is appropriate for your environment just like you would for any manual install.
Without knowing any details about your environment, I would add the SMSMP and FSP properties to the above command-line. If this is truly an offline install, you shouldn't use /mp though, you should use /source and point it at the client directory.

  • [SOLVED] MDT 2013 - Package install (offline updates) - how to make it work?!

    Hello.
Lack of documentation about offline update is really weird.
I've installed WSUS, approved updates for Windows 7, made Package subfolder "WSUS_updates" at MDT 2013 and point it to c:\WSUS\WsusContent folder and got 160 updates as cab or msu files. Made MDT Selection Profile "WU" pointed
    to Packages\Wsus_updates.
After that I've add new step to task sequence (fully tested many times before) to Preinstall\Install updates offine, just after "Inject drivers", with "WU" selection, fully update MDT share even with images regeneration,
    replaced new images at WDS.
Test run - no one update got to OS during deployment!!
and Final step shows 0 errors and 0 warnings.
    Really frustrated about this.
    Need any advice.
    thank you.

  • Installing Windows ADK and MDT 2013 without Internet

    Hi
    I have Windows 8.1 Update 64 bit
    on a computer without Internet.
I would like to install Windows ADK
and MDT 2013. What's the proper procedure to
    do this?
    Thanks
    Bye
    Balubeto

You need to download the pieces from an internet-connected machine.  They can they be copied (USB or whatever) to any machine, even those without an internet connection, to do an installation.
To get the necessary ADK pieces, download ADKSETUP.EXE and run it on the internet-connected machine.  It will offer an option to download all the rest of the ADK pieces (make sure you select the right components) into a folder you specify.
The MDT installation is a single MSI file.

  • MDT 2013 / ADK 8.1 Language Bug?

Have a new MDT 2013 Deployment with Windows ADK 8.1 Update. Using the following keyboard settings in customsettings.ini and bootstrap.ini for years:
    KeyboardLocale=0807:00000807
    KeyboardLocalePE=0807:00000807
The Keyboard PE settings do NOT work when the credentials for the connection to the deployment share have to be provided. Have the US keyboard layout. But when I hit F8, I have the correct Swiss German Keyboard Layout in the command window.
Any advice? Thank you in advance for any help

    Hi,
Generally,  you would use GPT for UEFI systems, MBR for BIOS-based systems, on UEFI-based systems, it will create four partitions (boot, MSR, recovery, OS) on a GPT disk.
It should just work, as soon as you figure out how to enable UEFI “native” mode in the firmware (BIOS) settings and then boot in “native” mode.

  • MDT 2013 won't capture 8.1 image, does not boot to PE to capture

I am doing this with Server 2012 R2 and MDT 2013, and the reference machines are VMs
I initially created a deployment share for creating windows 7 and windows 8.1 reference images and capturing and deployment worked ok. After getting into some more details i customized the deployment share customsettings  to make things easier and created
a separate capture share for capturing new reference images. I updated permissions on the share so my service account has access to it.
In this share i imported the windows 8.1 os files and copied the sysprep and capture task sequence i used to capture my first reference image [from the original deployment share], but when running the task sequence it reboots and just goes back into windows,
instead of windows PE to capture the image.
I copied a windows 7 capture sequence to the capture share, imported the windows 7 files and updated the task, and it rebooted into PE without a problem and copied an image. so I don't believe I have any permissions/customsettings problems with the new share.
Im not seeing any errors jump out at me in the bdd.log but I'm new-ish to going over the logs and using MDT to start with so I may be missing the obvious. I am using SMS trace and dont see any red/yellow highlites either.
In windows 7 i did have the vm in audit mode when i mapped the share as an admin and started the task sequence. In windows 8.1 i am not in audit mode [after doing some research and learning more about using MDT it did not seem necessary]
After comparing a run of the windows 7 task to windows 8 i see the boot.wim copied to the win 7 vm, but i dont see it on the win 8 vm. There is a partition created, i cant see data in it when i show hidden files.

    Thanks for your reply.
The pc is not in the domain when i run litetouch. It was joined after install, then i run some local gpos/scripts against it, install all of the shared printers from servers, then i put it back in a workgroup, login as the local administrator, delete the
domain profiles and guids in the registry, briefly connected back to a domain server [not with a mapped drive] to copy a couple of files, rebooted into the local admin account an ran litetouch.
After running litetouch.wsf the first time in the windows 8.1 pro vm [no changes, but manual connection] it rebooted without sysprepping or taking an image
I deleted the task sequence and created another one with "sysprep and capture" as the sequence.  i made no changes to the task sequence. did all of the above, ran litetouch, and it just reboots. sysprep does not run and windows pe does not load.
if i run sysprep and boot into audit mode [as a test, since my windows 7 vm snapshot was in audit mode when it runs litetouch.wsf], then run litetouch, sysprep works, then it DID capture an image, but after that image was capture and the VM rebooted, i got
this error when loading windows 8
"windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation" and if i hit ok it will reboot and error out again.
Haven't had any issues with that VM until now.
I reverted to my snapshot and just ran sysprep oobe w/ generalize to see how it would react
it failed, setuperr.log shows SYSPRP failed to remove apps for the current user. some searching gives me information on that and makes me think its related to adding/deleting user profiles? i dont actually use or update the apps at all, i have a deploy task
that removed most of them and customizes the start screen and those seem to work without issue.
found this as my reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2769827/en-nz
Sysprep has an additional provider that is added in Windows 8 to clean appx packages and generalize the image. The provider will only work if the Appx package is a per-user package or an all-user provisioned package.
    and
    Resolution
The correct way of removing the package is to remove the package for the user running sysprep and also remove the provisioning. This can be done using the following Powershell cmdlets:
    Import-Module Appx
    Import-Module Dism
    Get-AppxPackage -AllUser | Where PublisherId -eq 8wekyb3d8bbwe | Format-List -Property PackageFullName,PackageUserInformation
if i run that i get a lot of
    [unknown user]: installed
Do I just need to revise my process and start from scratch? or at least just never actually join the domain and user other profiles? thats a convenience thing so its not a big deal, really.
I have an image made in a similar way that works, but doesnt have quite all the updates/changes i wanted. It captured [at the time] fine and installs without issue
Heres an overview of what I do [i am open to some revisions on this]
-deploy windows 8 base install from MDT
-join domain, login with service account [just makes getting to some things easier]
-install office 2010 pro plus w/ sp2 [i do understand that these can be set as an MDT app but the install takes a while and i dont like waiting on it if i dont have to]
-install windows updates [no WSUs server currently, on my future to-do list, not my decision right now and i do understand the benefits of having one]
-connect to servers and install all network printers [we have so many that i dont want to wait on the drivers when we do a big roll out soon]
-install oracle software [i can get it to automate in windows 7, not 8, so i dont want to manually deal with it post-install]
-install adobe reader/java [i do understand that these can be set as an MDT app]
-leave domain, reboot, login as local admin
    -clean domain profiles/registry guids
-make some local gpoedits [we dont have 8.1 enterprise and just want the start screen locked down]
    -install our AV network agent
    -lite touch.
    any advice is appreciated

  • MDT 2013: bootstrap.ini not applying username and password for share access

I customized my bootstrap.ini file to skip the welcome screen, set keyboard locale, and enter a service account username and password for share access.  The welcome screen skip and keyboard locale work beautifully but it's not applying the share username/password/domain
    at all.

    Basics - Server 2008 R2 - SP1, WDS,  MDT 2013
Well all, I've done this at least 20 times today and the deployment share info is still wrong...
Someone else built and messed with this thing so i'm trying to fix it.  We have 2 MDT servers and 1 WDS that is on the Production MDT.  I've turned the test MDT off.
It was working fine, until I updated the deployment share ... after adding some drivers for the surface pro 3 for the pxe boot
    Very Simple bootstrap.ini

    SkipBDDWelcome=YES
It continues to show up on the client as ||mdt901w8|deploymentshare$  (test server) (pipes for \ since it makes it a link and i'm new)
I've deleted all the .wim and associated files from all locations from the deployment share\boot folder and from the wds remote install\boot\x64\images folder where they are instead of the remote install\boot\images folder that everyone refers to.
I really can't figure this one out... I know it's something simple I'm over looking but I can't see it..
    Any ideas..

  • MDT 2013 deploying OS from USB Flashdrive failed - need to click OK everytime

We are using MDT 2013 with ADK 8.1 and deploying Windows 7 x64 using media (USB Flashdrive). We can successfully deploy Windows 7 x64b using ethernet cabel but not via USB-Flashdrive. This problem appears on all our HP EliteBook
Series, old as new computers series. We can boot into WinPE 64 bit and start the proper task sequence, all image is applied then after restart, after the logon screen appears there is an error saying that cannot find "USB media?".
But after clicking "OK" it works fine until next reboot, same thing again, but the drive is recognized!
I downloaded all USB drivers from HP website that holds USB 2.0 and 3.0 and drivers that contains open driver files like .inf and .dll files and injected them with the "Profile" that contains all drivers and packages.
It seems like it needs a timeout because of the script is trying to early to find the USB-flashdrive.
    Any ideas?
Sorry for language, but you get the Point.
    Best regards

    Hi,
I would like you to clarify following questions with me:
    1. Did you keep the USB plugged in during the restarting?
    2. Have you make any task sequence to install applications after log in? If so, have them been installed properly?
Then, please help to collect a boot trace to let me know the details:
How to collect a good boot trace on Windows 7
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/jeff_stokes/archive/2012/09/17/how-to-collect-a-good-boot-trace-on-windows-7.aspx
Please upload them to a file sharing service like Onedrive or "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

  • Server 2012 R2 + MDT 2013 + WINLOAD.EXE error

    Hi All,
After watching some videos on MDT 2013 integration with SCCM 2012 I have been testing some builds of Windows Server 2012 R2. The MDT 2013 integration is working well with Database look-ups providing the required rules for customsettings.ini. To coincide
with the tests I am using the MDT 2013 Server Task Sequence Template.
Unfortunately I am hitting an error whereby, when using the MDT Task Sequence the full Operating System fails to start with a:
\Windows\System32\Winload.exe, 0xC000000F, File is Missing or Corrupt
Note: This is happening when the full OS is starting up. This is not a WinPE startup issue.
When I use a non-MDT Task Sequence, i.e. a typical task sequence we use for OSD the build process works OK. We still have MDT database integration working in that Task Sequence however.
    Some background info:
As per our normal process we are using a Windows Server 2012 R2 Capture image. The reference machine was build and capture using a partition scheme of (Partition 1 - 500MB + No Drive Letter + Hidden, Partition 2 - 100% of disk - Drive C:\)
This is a new SCCM 2012 R2 implementation and as such we installed CU3 as part of our build process. CU4 is yet to be applied.
Our WinPE Boot Images are WinPE 5 with a build number of 6.3.9600.16384
As we have an existing SCCM 2007 environment I am currently using USB Boot media to kick off the Task Sequence
We are only considering a "New Computer" build scenario. The MDT 2013 Task Sequence already detects that because the "_SMSTSinWinPE" = True.
In both Task sequences the Format and Partition step is as follows:
    Disk 0
    Standard(MBR)
BDEDrive (Primary) - 499MB, Marked Active with variable BDEDrive assigned
OSDisk (Primary) - 90GB variable OSDisk assigned
In both Task sequences the Apply Operating System step is as follows:
    Using Captured Image
Apply operating system from a captured image (Image 2-2)
Apply image to Logical Drive (OSDisk)
In both Task sequences the Apply Data Image step is as follows:
    Using Captured Image
Image 1-1 (from the same captured image as shown above)
Apply image to Logical Drive (BDEDrive)
What has been done so far:
Already eliminated driver packs as the problem occurs with and without them
Have monitored the build process (during WinPE that is) to determine what disks and partitions are in play at that stage. The 500MB BDE and 90GB OS Partitions are created as expected. The Apply OS and Apply Data Image steps are applying to the correct partitions.
I have used the Windows Server 2012 R2 Installation CD and tried to run a bootrec /fixmbr + bootrec /fixboot
I have used the Windows Server 2012 R2 Installation CD and tried to run a bootrec /rebuildbcd
I have tried toggling the "OSDPreserveDriveLetter" variable from True to False and back again. Based on my interpretation of the SCCM 2012 R2 + Windows Server 2012 drive letter issue this should be set to True so the capture image drive letters
    are preserved.
I have disabled an UEFI Partitioning steps just as a precaution.
There is no Bitlocker steps involved yet.
I have trawled through the SMSTS.LOG. So far it looks OK to me:
