MDT Media deployent via USB Question (issue)

Ok I have performed Media deployment via USB thumbdrive many times over the years, so I must be overlooking something this time. Here is the what is happening:
Performing a refresh via USB executing Litetouch.vbs from the deploy\scripts folder on the USB thumbdrive. Scanstate runs and saves the data using hardlinking.
(works perfect)
Then the client reboots into WINPE and then when the deployment should pick backup I see the message
"Please reinsert the
media (CD, DVD, or USB) needed to complete the
deployment." While the USB drive is still plugged in I hit ok on the missing media message screen and it does nothing.
If I hit F8 and check to see if the USB drive is present I find out it is not.
But If I simply reboot the client it succesfuly picks back up and completes the deployment. My Brootstrap.ini contains the following as required for USB media deployment:
[Settings]
Priority=Default
[Default]
SkipBDDWelcome=YES
So the question is why do I get the "Please reinsert the
media (CD, DVD, or USB) needed to complete the
deployment

I bought a new SP3 and wanted to upgrade the OS to Windows 10
The install was almost finished, the device restarted and a pop up box appeared saying:
"Media not found: Please reinsert the media (CD, DVD or USB) needed to complete the deployment"
Nothing I do can get around this:
Tried disabling secure boot from BIOS
Tried deleting boot files from BIOS
Tried PXE booting from an image - including safe/recovery mode (this boots into the setup environment but results in the pop up box) using a Surface network dongle
Tried USB booting (both a Windows and WinPE image) - the USB drive is ignored entirely and will not boot
Searching the web it appears that there's a rogue directory that can cause this. Deleting it fixes the issue but I cannot get to a command prompt because the pop up window stops the OS from loading.
Any other ideas - please?!

  • MDT Media - StateStore on USB Deployment media drive?

    MDT 2012 update 1
I'm doing a Refresh (migrating XP to 7) using USB Media of my working task sequence.
Everything works, migrates to 7 with all user data etc..
However I noticed it takes a very long time. There's a "StateStore" folder being created on the USB drive containing the following:
    USB:\StateStore\USMT\File\E$\Deploy\Applications\
    USB:\StateStore\USMT\File\E$\Deploy\Out-of-Box Drivers\
    USB:\StateStore\USMT\File\E$\Deploy\Scripts\
    USB:\StateStore\USMT\File\E$\Deploy\Templates\
It contains some (but not all) of the folders from the USB:\Deploy\ folder.
I still have a StateStore on C:\ containing the user data like it should...
but why would it ALSO be backing up some of the deployment folders on the USB Media drive?
After deployment completes, the USB's StateStore folder is never removed either.
I'd really like to reduce the time it takes by avoiding this useless backup, and potential problems that may surround it.
I have the following in my CustomSettings.ini, but nothing that should be causing backup of anything on other drives.
    USMTMigFiles001=MigApp.xml
    USMTMigFiles002=MigUser.xml
    USMTMigFiles003=MigFMCNA.xml

    Thanks for the reply!
I put in the following entry in my custom MigFMCNA.xml, but still have no change.

  • MDT 2012 Deployment by USB Flash Drive Problems

To test MDT, I'm trying to deploy Windows 7 Enterprise trial to a new ASUS x44H laptop via USB key and not use the network for anything until it needs to join the domain.  I have copied the media files (about 4 gigs of data including Windows 7 -64bit
WIM, drivers, applications etc. ) to a bootable USB key and booted the computer and have seen problem after problem.
It boots fine from the key, but the first issue I see is that it that a prompt pops up asking for a deployment share by UNC path.  Why is it not looking at the USB key?.
I entered the path to the sever share and clicked next since it was defaulting to "X:\Deployment" and it would not continue if left as is.
It then needed domain credentials to the network share.  Again why does it want to look for the network at this point?  It should not need any credentials until Windows is deployed and it is joining the domain and I had domain credentials specified
    already in customsettings.ini.
How can I point it back to the USB key so it stops trying to use the network? I don't think the NIC driver is going to work until Windows is installed with the NIC drivers, because I see no lights flashing on the NIC port from just the WINPE boot from USB.
I entered the credentials anyway just to get past the screen.
Minor issue is that it renamed the PC as expected, but still showed a confirmation prompt instead doing it silently and moving on.
The next thing is that it said it needed a reboot and I allowed it and it booted back into the old Windows 8 Consumer Preview operating system instead of formatting the drive and starting the install. I can't see any error messages or log of what
    happened.
If I force it to boot back into the USB key and start over it says there is a deployment already in progress in an unexpected state.
Does anyone have any ideas what would cause these issues?
I would like to make a deployment that runs with minimal prompts and using the USB as it's source for all the files it needs and not attempt to reach the network for anything until after Windows is installed along with all the drivers.

Like Imperfect1 told, the best way to do that is to:
create a new folder under "Out-of-Box Drivers" called "WinPE", import in that folder any drivers you need (network, mass storage, usb, etc...).
create a new "Selection Profile" called "WinPE Drivers" and select the previously created "WinPE" drivers folder.
in Media properties, under "Windows PE" tab, select your platform (x86 or x64) and select "WinPE Drivers" profile under "Drivers and Patches".
update media content and burn your ISO on a USB key
    It should work ;)

  • I need your help regarding Macbook Pro with FCS3 via USB

Sorry for the double posting, I need your help...
I am producing an independent TV movie. We are shooting in HDV with a Sony Z5.
Currently I am using a 2007 iMac (1gb) for the FCS3. I am considering buying a Macbook Pro 15' i7, because I need the portability as well as a WD 1TB portable external drive.
Just when I am about to buy the machine I started to read all about the USB vs. the Firewire. What should I do? The MBP only have one firewire port...if I use an USB portable external drive means that I won't be able to use FCS3 properly and that buying a MBP will mean spending money in something that I won't be able to make it work properly??
    Thanks for your help!!!!

    Hi there,
As Patrick said its Firewire hubs you should avoid along with directly connecting your media drive via USB. USB hubs are fine for connecting peripherals (keyboards, tablets, mice etc). directly connecting USB media drives is not for streaming video due to their method of sending data in packets rather than as the continuous stream that firewire provides. Firewire hubs just seem to cause all sorts of headaches to those that have used them, I cant give you a specific reason other than splitting the available FW bandwidth (someone with more knowledge on this will have to chime in), its more just inherited practice.
    cheers

  • General question - deploying via drac/iLO vs. USB stick inconsistencies

This is going to be kind of a general question and see if anyone has experienced something similar and if there is a better way to go about this.
I have the need to send a Windows 2008 r2 image to a new data center via USB stick.  I built my task sequence and created an ISO from it and mounted it in virtual media in an HP iLO session and built a physical server to test the task sequence.  This
was just a test to see if the build was good.  It was.
So I used an ISO to USB tool to put the ISO on USB stick to make it bootable media.  I built the same server via the USB device.  The build got 90% of the way through and during one of the last reboots, it comes up to "Preparing your computer
for first time use" and immediately reboots itself.
I have had this experience before where building via a USB stick gives me different results than deploying the same ISO via iLO/drac.  Any clue why that might be?  It's very frustrating and I can't pinpoint any differences.

I don't know exactly what happened, but a couple of observations based on your description:
    - Are you using bootable media or stand-alone media? If bootable, non task sequence info whatsoever is but on the media. If stand-alone, why are you using stand-alone instead of bootable?
    - Why not directly build the media on a USB device using the console instead of converting the ISO? There are inconsistencies with this at best because of drive letter changes that the media takes into account.

  • MDT 2013 deploying OS from USB Flashdrive failed - need to click OK everytime

We are using MDT 2013 with ADK 8.1 and deploying Windows 7 x64 using media (USB Flashdrive). We can successfully deploy Windows 7 x64b using ethernet cabel but not via USB-Flashdrive. This problem appears on all our HP EliteBook
Series, old as new computers series. We can boot into WinPE 64 bit and start the proper task sequence, all image is applied then after restart, after the logon screen appears there is an error saying that cannot find "USB media?".
But after clicking "OK" it works fine until next reboot, same thing again, but the drive is recognized!
I downloaded all USB drivers from HP website that holds USB 2.0 and 3.0 and drivers that contains open driver files like .inf and .dll files and injected them with the "Profile" that contains all drivers and packages.
It seems like it needs a timeout because of the script is trying to early to find the USB-flashdrive.
    Any ideas?
Sorry for language, but you get the Point.
    Best regards

    Hi,
I would like you to clarify following questions with me:
    1. Did you keep the USB plugged in during the restarting?
    2. Have you make any task sequence to install applications after log in? If so, have them been installed properly?
Then, please help to collect a boot trace to let me know the details:

  • Solved! NTFS-3G Issue on Mac Maverick when plugging a hard drive via USB

This issue can be solved in less than 5 minutes, but it is not free. if you are willing to sort it out once and for good, read on, it’s well worth it!
“I love my Mac!”, that is a common expression you might hear everyday, but not many people are willing to admit that Macs really suck and become a nightmare the moment you plug a hard drive, new or filled with those important files, via USB. Apparently most commercial backup hard drives are formatted with Windows file systems by default and Macs will only be able to read the contents of these discs after properly formatting them on Mac.
I have 3 external hard drives filled with mp4 movies and uni files, and formatting is absolutely a no-no here. So I was forced to open those files using the Windows virtual machine (via Parallel) in my Mac, which really ***** too. According to the many websites I visited for solution, you either had to buy some apps or die with that NTFS-#G error message when plugging a USB hard drive. There is also an encouragement to either format the drives on Mac before you can use, and again, in my case, this is impossible.
“NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk1s1 at /Volumes/Vuakalevu because the following problem occurred: dyld:
Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libfuse.2.dylib Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/ntfs-3g
    Reason: image not found”
I think I just solved that issue once and for all, but nothing comes for free, as in anything with Mac computers. The “Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX”, which cost me $19.99 from their official website seems to have sorted me out, now I can plug any hard drive, no matter the format, and Maverick will read it as it should (read and write). Well worth it, and i do recommend it.
This was originally posted in my website, so feel free to come around if you like.
    http://journalsfromoceania.com/solved-ntfs-3g-external-drive-issue-solved-for-19 -99/

Hi Linc Davis, yep! i did everything according to read me, tried all free ones, only made it worse. uninstalled the whole lot, didnt work either. I read around in forums the same thing "simply remove the app causing this issue and it will be sorted" didnt work for me. this Paragon sorted me out after 2 years of external hard drive issues. Im not sure if your reply was an assertion or a question though. cheers

  • Dell Laptops E7440 & E7240 - Issues with connecting to MDT 2012 deployment share

    Hi,
Good afternoon.Need help on this please
-Test laptops Iam using are 2 * E7440 and 1*E7240. One laptop of model E7440 has our image installed and other two (1*E7440 & 1*E7240) are shipped from Dell with default Win 7 64 bit OS.
-Test desktops Iam using are Dell Optiplex 3020 & Dell 3010 . Both models have our own images of Win 7 64 Bit.
-Laptops and desktops are on same network .
-For OS deployments we have MDT 2012.
-While there are no issues with desktops, all the laptops mentioned above don’t connect to MDT deployments share . The detailed error message I get when I run a litetouch ISO is ‘A connection to the deployment share could not be made. Connection OJ.Possible
cause:invalid credentials. Retry : Try again to connect to the deployment share.’
-Have injected all possible network & storage drivers mentioned by Dell &  Intel into MDT boot image but the problem still persists. Still WinPE doesn’t detect network adapter wherein IPaddresses are not picked in WinPE mode.
-Have been testing each and every driver by manually loading them into Winpe mode to see if they pick up the IP addresses and I finally found one driver by name ‘e1d63x64.inf ‘ which I downloaded directly from Intel website. This one is picking IP Address
in WinPE mode when loaded manually. Also have tested the connectivity to MDT server in WinPE mode with net use command and it was successful.
Have injected this driver into MDT Laptop deployment share, regenerated the ISO and tried again however Iam still unable to connect to the deployment share with litetouch ISO.
The above driver is very much part of set of network drivers on Dell website too.But it doesn’t work.
-Have also tried combination of network & storage drivers from Dell website  (along with the above one mentioned ) injecting them into the MDT laptop boot image but no luck.
-Every time I make changes to drivers in boot image,I update deployment share & recreate boot image .
-This very litetouch iso connects to  MDT deployments share for Dell desktop models 3010 & 3020 but have issues with laptop models E7440 & E7240. This means any connectivity or access issues can be ruled out. Also no problem with our image cause
this happens even with brand new shipped laptops with your inbuild win 7 OS.
-Have tried all options suggested on internet, tested all the drivers suggested but no luck.
-For example I tried latest E7440 netwrok & storage drivers ,Dell Win PE drivers, drivers from Intel website, etc  individually as well as in combinations but the issue persists.
-If you google many express similar issues with these laptop models.
Though I used the drivers suggested by various bloggers, nothing worked for me.
Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I have several E6420, O3010 and since a week also some E7440 and E7240 on site.
I never had issues using the current Dell PE package for MDT.
At the moment my PE contains only the drivers from the Dell PE 3.0 package (WinPE3.0-Drivers-A13-D67JC)
and all my systems mentioned abobe have no issues connecting to the deployment share.
(btw: I have also some older E6400, E6410 and O390 I do no longer support, they
are supported by the pack Dell-WinPE-Drivers-A05.CAB according
to the Dell site, but I just started a deplymenst on a E6410 and is is also workign with just the latest PE pack)
    I'd
suggest you start over with your deplyoment share using at least MDT2012 Update 1.
Create a folder "PE" under "Out-of-Box Drivers" and extract latest Dell PE pack and import he drivers there
Create a selection profile e.g. "PE Drivers" and include just the "PE" folder created above
When configuring the Windows PE  settings of your deployment share select "PE
Drivers" selection profile for the driver injection in the "Drivers and Patches" to keep the PE image free of not needed drives.

Give your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home  keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and try again.
    Try a different USB cord

I recently had Fios installed (TV, Internet, Phone). Everything seems to be working fine so far. When I try to access my Home Media DVR via the web portal, I get time out messages, and errors saying that the DVR isn't responding. I get similiar errors when I try to access the DVR via the web browser on my phone as well.
Also, when Verizon Central (or whatever the web portal is called) tries to gather the information from my set top boxes, it tells me that it can't get the information from my Home DVR box.
Any issues/fixes on this?? Please help.
    Thank you,

Also, when Verizon Central (or whatever the web portal is called) tries to gather the information from my set top boxes, it tells me that it can't get the information from my Home DVR box.
Any issues/fixes on this?? Please help.
    Thank you,
    Sean
For this it seams like the boxes are able to be seen by verizon.com/fiostvcentral if that's the case you can try powercycling the router, and the cables boxes, and then trying it again. If that doesn't work you will have to call the vz tech support. 888-553-1555.

  • Problems sharing media across network via USB of E4200

Wasn't sure where to post this.... I have been using the e4200 for about a week.  So far, so good!  However, a primary reason I purch it was the ability to share via USB across my network (Files and such).  Read the approved USB drives that r compatible and although my specfic drive was not listed (WD, my Passport) I connected it to the e4200 and set a folder called "movies"to share.  In this folder I have both bluray rips (25-32GB) and standard rips (5gb or less).  Regardless of source, the content was not playable.  It buffered like crazy.  So, is it as simple as using an approved USB drive and I will be able to share appropriately?
The same folder plays great when connected directly to one of my media streamers USB drive, so don't think the drive/source is bad.
    Thank you!

What is the capacity of the your WD HDD? The maximum HDD capacity supported by E4200 is 3TB. What is the hardware version of the device, also please mention the current firmware version of E4200.
You have mentioned that the media is not playable. Does it not play at all or it takes time to buffer and then play?

  • IPad connection issues via USB to xbox360

Hello, I have an iPad 1st gen and am connecting it to my xbox360 via USB, But it won't connect. Where the little battery icon is ,in the top right corner, it just says "Not charging"  For some weird reason I can't get my xbox360 to see my iPad.  Yes I have tryed all the USB ports.   Any ideas?

That's not really a valid analogy.  After all, many devices will recognize an iPad/iPod/iPhone and play music from it, and the xbox 360 will recognize and play music/media from a Zune, so it's not a crazy thought to try and hook in an iPad.  Unfortunately, I think MS wan't the 360 to only work well with the Zune (just like Apple only wants iTunes to work well with their products).
