Measurement in Photoshop CC

In some of the Photoshop "Extended" versions, there was a function in which one could apply a known measurment to an image and then determine other dimensions in the image. For example, if one were designing a sign for a building and shot a picture of the building with a known 5' doorway, one could use the measure tool (or whatever it was called in that function) to tell Photoshop that the doorway was 5'-0" wide. From there, after you laid in the sign design, and used the measure tool on the sign image, Photoshop would tell you the dimensions of the sign based on the scale you set with the doorway. Now for the big question: One, does that function still exist, and two, if so, where do you find it?
Thanks,
Joe

It still exists in photoshop cc under Image>Analysis and Window>Measurement Log

The help hasn't been updated to reflect the new locations on menu in cs6/cc, but the other stuff should be the same.

  • Setting a Custom Scale and Measuring in Photoshop CS5 Extended | No Stupid Questions with Colin Smith | Adobe TV

    The measurement tool in Photoshop CS5 Extended can accurately measure distance, area and angels in your image but did you know that you can customize the scale that you measure? Colin will show you have to use these tools and accurately measure the height of our stand-in criminal Karl Miller. Also covered will be out to print our 1:1 so that measurements can be taken from printed outputs.

    Hi,
    Where can I find the Analysis Menu in CS6 ?
    I try to print an "ortographic" front view of a 3D model in 1:1 scale but I can't use your trick...
    Many Thanks

  • Photoshop CS6 Vanishing Point Font Size

    How do I make it bigger?  When you render it to photoshop you have to zoom in to see it.

    I rendered the measurements to Photoshop but when you do it brings them in so small
    you can't read any of the measurements.  Anyway to increase this font so you can read it?

    Gokul: I have received your query. Please allow me a moment to verify your account and to review the details of your request.
    Gokul: I understand that you are unable to create greeting card of your wish measurement using Photoshop Elements 11.0, is that correct?
    Donna: Unable to create a greeting card.... something is wrong with the software... updating didnt fix it.... tried upgrading to 11 but there is an error on your site.
    Gokul: Thank you for elaborating the issue.
    Gokul: I will be more than glad to check and help you with that
    Gokul: May I know the serial number of the software?
    Donna: I dont know, its a download... how do i check
    Gokul: The serial number will be located in your email if you have downloaded the software or on the reverse side of the box if you have shipped the box to you and the serial number is a 24-digit long number.
    Donna: Ill check but i dont know if i kept that email.... isnt available under my adobe ID?
    Gokul: I do not see serial number registered under your e-mail address.
    Donna: I found the order number...
    Gokul: It is not valid order number.
    Gokul: May I know from where did you purchase the product?
    Donna: Adobe store Southeast Asia... can i send you a photo of the order confirmation?
    Gokul: May I know the e-mail ID which you have used to purchase the product?

    Donna: It also says on it that Digital RIver, Internatinoal SARL is theauthorised reseller and merchant of the products and service offered within this store
    Gokul: Sorry, you need to contact the reseller from where you have purchased the product to get the serial number.
    Gokul: Please contact us back with the serial number of Photoshop Elements 11.0 to get better assist.
    Donna: No, adobe owns this product and i need it to work. i am not going to search for some stupid distributor. please let me talk to a manager.

    Gokul: I see that the serial number is for Photoshop Elements 10.0 and Premiere Elements 10.0.
    Gokul: May I know if you have Photoshop Elements 11.0 serial number?
    Donna: thats what i said Elements 10
    Donna: I dont have the serial numbers.... they were not on the form.

  • Verified AS3 bugs

    I found another serious AS 3 bug so i decided to write up a
    verification script so anyone can verify these bugs and hopefully
    someone over at adobe can squash them, as they are quite annoying
    and require a considerable amount of effort to work around.
    The first bug is a dynamically generated movieclip that has
    various UI components to it will report its height incorrectly but
    will display correctly
    The second bug is when a combobox has its value changed it
    generates a change event but for some reason, its parent
    displayobject does not detect the event.
    My project deals with auto layout of several dynamically
    generated movieclips that contain dozens of comboboxes so these two
    bugs combined are really getting on my nerves.
    The code to reproduce these bugs is below. Just copy and
    paste in a Flash IDE, add the combobox, checkbox and radiobutton
    componets to the FLA's library and launch. I had a screen shot of
    the height i measured with photoshop but doesn't look I can attach
    it. At any rate, flash outputs 174 and i measured 99 for a
    difference of 75.
    -------------------------------Sample Code
    Begin------------------------------------
    //omnidogg - Jan 18,2008
    //Code to illustrate 2 AS3 bugs
    // 1. ComboBox change event does bubble up to parent
    displayobject container
    // 2. Dynamically sized movieclip's height property displays
    correctly but the value returned from a get operation is incorrect
    // just copy and paste into Flash IDE.
    //import needed classes for example
    import fl.controls.CheckBox;
    import fl.controls.ComboBox;
    import fl.controls.RadioButton;
    import fl.controls.RadioButtonGroup;
    //create a empty movie that will be the parent display
    object, set backgroud to green, put around middle of stage
    var mc1:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
    this.stage.addChild(mc1);
    mc1.opaqueBackground = 0x00FF00;
    mc1.x = 50;
    mc1.y = 60;
    //create a combobox and add it to mc1. Add two choices to
    illustrate change event bubbling bug.
    //changing value in combo box generates an event but mc1 does
    not detect it.
    var cb1:ComboBox = new ComboBox();
    mc1.cb1 = mc1.addChild(cb1);
    mc1.cb1.x = 220;
    mc1.cb1.y = 30;
    mc1.cb1.addItem({label:"Choice 1"});
    mc1.cb1.addItem({label:"Choice 2"});
    //add a checkbox to mc1. This component behaves as expected.
    var chkb1:CheckBox = new CheckBox();
    chkb1.name = "chkb1";
    mc1.chkb1 = mc1.addChild(chkb1);
    mc1.chkb1.x = 220;
    mc1.chkb1.y = mc1.cb1.y + mc1.cb1.height + 10;
    mc1.chkb1.label = "Toggle";
    //add two radio buttons in default radiobuttongroup to mc1.
    selecting a new value generates 3 change events. I expected 2, 1
    for each radiobutton.
    //3rd from the radiobutton group? at least something is
    generated which is better than nothing
    var rb1:RadioButton = new RadioButton();
    mc1.rb1 = mc1.addChild(rb1);
    mc1.rb1.x = 180;
    mc1.rb1.y = mc1.chkb1.y + mc1.chkb1.height + 20;
    mc1.rb1.label = "Choice 1";
    var rb2:RadioButton = new RadioButton();
    mc1.rb2 = mc1.addChild(rb2);
    mc1.rb2.x = 260;
    mc1.rb2.y = mc1.chkb1.y + mc1.chkb1.height + 20;
    mc1.rb2.label = "Choice 2";
    //add a event listener to mc1 to detect any change events
    mc1.addEventListener(Event.CHANGE,traceChange);
    //trace the given text when a change event occurs
    function traceChange(event:Event):void
    trace("Change Event Detected");
    //trace height of movie clip with various UI components
    placed in it
    trace(mc1.height); //outputs 174, measurements from photoshop
    indicate 99. I can send a screenshot to anyone interested.
    -------------------------------Sample Code
    End--------------------------------------
    Of course if these have already been found and squashed,
    someone please point to me to the proper resources; seaches of the
    knowledgebase don't turn up any revelant info.
    Thanks

    The incorrect height value you're getting is a timing issue.
    Each these
    components has a TextField somewhere in its heirarchy, which
    is initialized
    at 100x100. The resizing of the TextField doesn't occur until
    after you've
    checked the height of the container MovieClip.
    If you listen for Event.ENTER_FRAME, you'll find that the
    correct value is
    returned once the component is fully rendered. In my test,
    the correct value
    was available on the 2nd ENTER_FRAME.
    Try this:
    this.addEventListener(Event.ADDED, _handler);
    this.addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, _handler);
    this.addEventListener(Event.RENDER, _handler);
    this.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, _efhandler);
    function _handler(event:Event)
    trace(event.type, event.target, mc1.height)
    var efcount:uint=0;
    function _efhandler(event:Event)
    efcount++;
    trace(event.type, event.target, mc1.height)
    if(efcount > 5) // i use 5, but can be fewer
    this.removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, _efhandler);

  • Matching colours in Illustrator?

    I shot a photograph with a white object on a black background. I edited the photo in Photoshop. The background was pure black. I then 'placed' the photograph in Illustrator over a black background. Now the photo background shows up lighter than the Illustrator background. How can I match the colours?

    Did you measure (in Photoshop) what you call ‘pure black’?
    Is the Photoshop file in CMYK or RGB?
    Is the black in Illustrator built up in the same way as the ‘pure black’?
    Is the Illustrator file in CMYK or RGB?
    Is the photo linked or embedded?
    Are you using Overprint Preview?
    Take a careful look at the colours in both your files and I think you will be able to find the answer yourself.

  • Why is my banner size different in indesign?

    I´m doing a banner 728x90pixel in indesign and did the same measurement in Photoshop and the size of the banner is smaller in photoshop compared to indesign, why? Have I done something wrong?

    No.
    What version of InDesign are you using? 100% display changed in CS6, but the underlying differnce in what you see is Photoshop actually measures in pixels and can give you a 1:1 display correspondence between image and screen pixels. InDesign, on the other hand, is really a print layout tool that is being "expanded" for use in on-screen design. The internal measuring system is points, and ID actually doesn't have a clue what a pixel is. Instead, it pretends that all pixel-based layouts are at 72 ppi (there are 72 points per inch in modern layout systems) and you are calling points pixels.
    Prior to CS6 the 100% view was pretty meaningless since there are no monitors that actually have a native resolution of 72 ppi these days and it could be quite divergent from reality if compared to a physical ruler. CS6 has new code for alternate layouts that allows you to see on your screen what your layout is going to look like in various mobil devices, and part of that code also queries your system to determine the pixel density of the display, and in theory this means that your 100% view should now match a physical ruler. It seems to work pretty well on at least some Macs, but not on Windows 7, though it may do better on XP.

  • How to screen shot cc 2014 smart guides

    How do I take a screen shot of the Smart Guide measurements in Photoshop CC 2014?

    You have not mentioned your OS.
    On Mac it’s at least possible by changing the keyboard shortcut for the screenshot appropriately.

  • Vanishing Point VPE size control

    I've looked. Is there a way to control the size of the vpe pngs?
    I have a massive file, and would assume that the closer grid objects would at least be a decent size, but everything is getting crushed into a tiny PNG. Is there a preference setting somewhere?
    I've tried to change the "save for devices" PNG setting to 1500K, but it hasn't had an effect on the quality of the VPE pngs.

    I rendered the measurements to Photoshop but when you do it brings them in so small
    you can't read any of the measurements.  Anyway to increase this font so you can read it?

  • The Zone System (Linear Tone Curve?)

    Hi, I've been learning the zone system by Ansel Adams.  I would like to take a photo and import it into photoshop so that each value in my scene matches the according grayscale measurements in photoshop (measured using Lab values).
    I used my camera and took 11 exposures of a grey card: -5 ('Black'), -4, -3, -2, -1, 0 (Mid Grey), +1, +2, +3, +4, +5 ('White').
    I then opened the files in Adobe Camera Raw (No adjustments)
    I then opened them with Photoshop
    I measured the Lightness values using Lab and plotted the points on a graph.
    I see that somewhere along the line an S Curve has been applied to the input values!  I would like an even distribution of the input tonal values.
    How do I turn this S-curve off?  Or, how do I achieve a linear curve when importing photos to photoshop?
    Essentially:
    I would like a linear response curve so that each tone (each 1 stop exposure from above) maps to the appropriate grayscale value in even increments (i.e., 10% steps).
    Zone 0:     0% (Black)
    Zone 1:     10%
    Zone 2:     20%
    Zone 3:     30%
    Zone 4:     40%
    Zone 5:     50%
    Zone 6:     60%
    Zone 7:     70%
    Zone 8:     80%
    Zone 9:     90%
    Zone 10:   100% (White)
    Can anyone shed any light on this issue?  I'm really stumped with this one!

    This looks like a typical response curve that you would also see with film.  I'm not sure you would want a linear line, as your images would look flat.  If you really want a linear curve, play around with the curves in ACR and adjust them so that they compensate for the curve that your camera sensor is creating.

  • Photoshop CS6 Extended Slow Load ("Measuring Memory...")

    Hi guys!
    Sorry English is not my native language.
    I am run Photoshop CS6 Extended 64-bit (from design premium) on Windows 7, 64-bit with 8GB RAM.
    When I first start PS, it looks like it freeze on the text "Measuring Memory". If I wait for about 30 seconds, it will eventually load and everything works fine. No issues with Save for Web or anything.
    I have read the other threads on this and tried all of these solutions:
    Checked my ram in memtest (15 passes, no error)
    Trash preferences and open again
    Un-install and re-install (tried twice)
    Updated PS to latest with Adobe Update
    Reboot machine
    This happen when I first run Windows, so lack of RAM is not the issue. I have no printers, other hard drive, or remote network drive attached to machine. Scratched disk is set to the boot disk (C:\)
    If it help, Illustrator CS6 and InDesign CS6 load normally.
    Do you have any suggestions to fix this? Thank you!
    Richard Montouchet

    Congratulations on having such a huge amount of memory that it takes 30 seconds to measure it all!    Just kidding - sorry.
    You've done all the things a reasonable person would do...  Some other things I might suggest are:
    1.  Check to ensure your display driver is up to date - go to the web site of the maker of your video card, not Microsoft.
    2.  Try disabling the Use Graphics Processor setting in Edit - Preferences - Performance, and restart Photoshop.
    3.  Remove any 3rd party plug-ins (reinstall won't remove plug-ins, so I thought I'd mention it).
    4.  Check to see if you have the same behavior with the 32 bit Photoshop as the 64 bit Photoshop.

  • Can accurate measurements be made and images scaled in Photoshop CS4 Extended - Student Version

    I draw and amend plan based images (similar to Ordnance Survey plans) and need to be able to work in detail using accurate measurements to create a 2D representation of a building or other feature and their surroundings to a particular scale. Ideally I want to take this further to use the base plans as a means of generating a 3D image.
    I currently have Photoshop Elements 6 which does not allow me to either measure distances/line lengths or work to a defined scale. Am I correct in understanding that Photoshop CS4 Extended - Student Version would overcome this technical deficiency?
    Thanks, KJ

    Get the trial and play with the vanishing point filter. It allows you to draw planes in perspective, scale, clone to the drawn perspectives, measure distances between points and define a distance which is used as a baseline to measure out all the other perspective lines.

  • Measure tool in Photoshop CS6

    why is the unit of measurement displayed when using the measure tool wrong? I have changed it in the units and rulers in preferences but it is still wrong.

    Hello Emma,
    It works ok for me here. Where are you reading the measurement? (Info Panel? Ruler Tool Option Bar?)
    Is your Photoshop up to date?

  • Windows Update Causing CS6 Photoshop x64 to crash at "Measuring Memory"

    Hello,
         This started on the 28th when we received a batch of Windows updates on our machines. The next day the eight users who have this installed are no longer able to open the 64 bit version of Photoshop. Each time it will get to "Measuring Memory" and then crash with no events in the Event Viewer. I have tried to remove the Windows updates manually with no luck. The only way to get it back to working is to do a System Restore. When doing some troubleshooting I discovered that if I use log in on the workstation that is crashing with my account then Photoshop 64 bit will open for me and get past the measuring memory. So I tried to figure out what relationship photoshop has with the users account and all I found was the users "Settings/Preferences". I had the user log back in and went to the location of that file and removed the 64 bit version. I then opened Photoshop back up and it created a new file but still crashed on measuring memory.
    If you have other suggestions or knowledge of what else is tied to the users account. I should also mention that the 32 bit version works fine on the machine for all the users.
    Thank you for your help.

    Bump. Still looking for help.
    I have tried to run all Windows updates and then uninstall and re install Adobe Photoshop both 32-bit and 64-bit. The system still crashes. In the event viewer I am getting this:
