Media Encoder improperly resizes image

Adobe Media Encoder CS4 is causing me a lot of problems. I edit in D1 (720x486) with a Matrox Axio system. In previous versions of CS, I was able to export a finished timeline to DVD with a minimum of hassle, but AME now won't resize the image to 720x480 correctly. I have even tried the cropping function in the source window, cutting 2 lines off the top and 4 off the bottom. Basically, I am giving AME the exact 720x480 image I need, but AME still resizes it. The resulting image has thin black pillar lines at the left and right side, and is unusably blurry. Is there any hope of this being fixed?

>The resulting image has thin black pillar lines at the left and right side, and is unusably blurry.
I can't address the blurry problem because it sounds as if you are cropping correctly.
However, the thin pillar lines at the sides are as designed. Pr and AE have, for a long time, been using an incorrect PAR value for non-square pixel footage. Those values have been corrected according to BBC standards, and the result is the pillar lines that you see. Expect them to stay hidden in the overscan area of televisions.
And no, I don't know why the BBC standard was chosen, nor what other choices for a PAR standard were available.

  • CS4 Media encoder - Crop+Resize problem

I`m attempting to both crop and resize a video at the same time.
I have an AVCHD 1920X1080 premiere CS4 project. I export it to media encoder.
I`m attempting to encode it to flv or f4v.
After having cropped the video in Media encoder I would like to resize it but then I encounter a problem:
I have 3 options in the output settings:
Scale to fit/Black borders/Change output size.
`Black borders` is not what I want. I need my frame to contain nothing outside of the image.
If I choose `Scale to fit` the video immidiately becomes terribly blurred. It can`t be not a resolution issue as the size is 429X622 after the crop and the original is HD (and if I encode it the result is accordingly strangely blurred) I can resize the video but it will be `blurred`.
If instead, in the output settings I choose `Change output size` I get a normal video image (no blur, that is)  but the the `resize video` interface under the `video` tab is disabled - it is greyed out ( even though the checkbox next to it is still marked) and the width and height boxs are greyed out too. I can`t resize.
I`ve attached to this message a JPEG capturing a part of the frame to show the strange blurring problem as well as the greyed out `Resize` interface.
What am I doing wrong ?

    Jim Simon asked:
But isn't that the size you want?  If not, how did it get set that way?
Thanks for your interest, Jim Simon. Well, no, it`s not the size I want. I want to be able to resize at will, after I had cropped. How did it get set that way ? I got that 429WX622H frame merely by cropping the original 1920X1080 frame by using the `Media encoder` crop function, while the output is set to`Change output size` . If I would go now and rechange the size of the cropping frame I would get different dimension numbers. But as to how it got `set` this way, and now I refer to the word `set` as in `not being able to change anymore, being greyed out and disabled` - I have no idea at all, and this actually stands at the core of my bewilderment. If i choose to go about it differently and change the order of actions by resizing first and then cropping, for example, if I would choose first to change the size of the video from 1920X1080 to let`s arbitrarly say: 720X440 and then I would go and crop it in order to exclude from the frame certain imagery that I don`t need, then, Oddly enough, my previous resizing action will be strangely ignored and the cropping is re-calculated from the original 1920X1080 frame. I may even end up with a  `crop` which is larger than my `resize`.
In other words: I need to be able to change both what I include in my frame and the final video resolution, and media encoder would not allow it in `Change output settings`  and it would allow it in `Scale to fit`  but then it insists on adding a strange and impossible bluriness effect even in the result encoded video.

  • Can Media Encoder take an image sequence in the watch folder and turn it into a video file?

I'm using OSX and Media Encoder 6 (from premier 6) and can't figure out how to make the watch folder take a .jpeg or .dpi sequence and turn it into a single video file.
I tried copying all the stills into the watch folder, that made 60 individual video files (one for each image).
I tried making a folder inside the watch folder, and copying all the images into it.. to which Media Encoder did nothing.
What am I missing? Will Media Encoder take image sequences and render them out as a audio-less video for me?
    Thanks for any imput.

    Hi action_packed,
This is from the documentation: http://helpx.adobe.com/media-encoder/using/add-items-encoding-queue.html
Still Image Sequences are not supported as source footage through Watch Folders. If a set of still images is placed in the folder being watched, each individual still file will be added as a separate item to the Queue rather than than the entire sequence as a single piece of footage.

  • Media Encoder (AMC) - resize or crop without compression

any way to just resize or crop an already compressed video clip without another generation of compression?

Jeff is from this forum and if it solves your problem give him the credit please...not me..
Watch that video tutorial and get the free "VirtualDub" program and use the filters to do what you want, saving as AVI...the video tutorial explains a lot.

  • Media encoder renders soft video

I noticed that when I render out a .wmv file for clients to review, it is very soft when I check the interlacing option.  I am using lower filed first material so this would obviously be the right option. If I don't chose that option, it must deinterlace the video. It's not a huge deal because I can render in After Effects like this fine, but media encoder makes the image very soft. Any one else experienced this? Is it a bug? Thanks.

I've not noticed any such issues with my own WMV exports.  Not sure what might cause that.

  • Watermarking through Adobe Media Encoder

Is there a way to watermark (or add text) over video through MediaEncoder?
I'm trying to do the following:
-export a raw video clip straight from the file (not through any editing program)
-use media encoder to convert it to an H264 .mp4 file
    -then post on the web
Without putting it in FinalCut/AfterEffects/etc...,  Is there a way to put a watermark through media encoder?  An image preferred but I don't care if it's just text

It sure would be great if AME did watermarking. Seems like an easy thing, surprising that it isn't already in there.
We have to add Apple Compressor to our workflow for this one simple task... it would speed up our process SO much to not have to add that extra step...
Please Adobe add watermarking to Media Encoder!!

  • Media Encoder - very bad resizing quality

The problem is when i want to resize HD video from it's original size 1440x1080 50i (16x9) to DV PAL 720x576 (4x3) 50i to the full frame size (without black borders) using crop - the video quality even in preview looks really bad. The whole image gets blurry and kinda "half resolution" looking.
    I think it's a bug of media encoder 4.0.1
This is really annoyingg cause we're filming using XDCAM and clients often want to get material in DV PAL. Any solutions?
The same thing done and rendered natively in After Effects looks fine

Try importing the clips into Premiere and resizing them manually in the timeline. Then send those off to Media Encoder. Make sure you select "Maximize Render Quality" from the sequence settings or use "Maximum Render Quality" in your export settings.
There was a similar issue with CS3 when "Scale to Frame Size" was selected on a clip. The resulting video was softer using this feature compared to resizing the clip manually.

  • For some reason, I can't compile a video or image sequence anymore with Premiere, Media Encoder, or After Effects... All CC

I have been working on a video for awhile now and I've recently noticed that my .flv export format has been removed from my choice of encoders. I export from Poser Pro Game Dev to Png Image Sequence. I organise a cam angle in After Effects...I re render out to a png image sequence.. continuing to hold quality. Then when a scene is done; I use Premiere to export a 1080 by 720 wmv format 29.97. But now I can't encode from Premere, Media Encoder, or Affter Effects. Please ...Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
I have been working on a video for awhile now and I've recently noticed that my .flv export format has been removed from my choice of encoders.
Check this for more information: removal of FLV and F4V export features from Adobe Media Encoder, After Effects, and Premiere Pro | After Effects regio…
But now I can't encode from Premiere, Media Encoder, or After Effects.
What exactly happens when you try to export?
    Thanks,

  • Can Media Encoder append a still image to EVERY sequence run through it?

    Hi!
We are trying to streamline our video publishing process and I was wondering if ME can automatically add a clip or still image to every sequence it exports?
For example, at the end of every video we have our company logo / social media call to actions. Is there a way to have these added in ME as opposed to doing in the Premiere timeline? The way that they SHOULD be put together is fairly subtle and at the frame by frame level.
It would be a huge timesaver if we could automatically place these and avoid the inevitable mistakes that come with re placing each time through.
    Thanks so much!

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS5 - Can we crop and resize at the same time?

Flash 8's video encoder, use to let you crop (cut x amount of pixels out) and then resize  a video (and in that order it did it).
CS5's Media Encoder is confusing, from what I can tell it cannot do both, you either can crop or resize but not both. ANd if you can do both, you definately cant crop before the resize. So which is it?
Resizing made sense last, because you could put in new values for the resize nad figure out how much you need to crop out.
Please help this is driving me insane.

Everyone in my office has the same problem!
We really need an alternative to AME both because of the crop/resize problem and many other seamingly random issues with preview and export.
    Adobe Media Encoder sucks...

  • Having major issues with Adobe Media Encoder (AME) - exporting with weird image flickering/colour anomalies, crashing regularly, freezing during encode...!

    Hi Guys
I am having some real issues with Adobe Media Encoder (AME) at the moment.  It appears that I am unable to encode an h.264 for Vimeo from a Premiere Pro Project file at the moment without at least some weird image issues that are not supposed to be there.  These include weird flickering, colour changes, artefacts etc.  This is if I am lucky...often I am unable to get the process to complete as the application either crashes and tells me there has been a problem or it simply freezes and I have to force quit the application and often restart my machine.
The problem seems to not to just be with h.264 for the web encodes but also with BluRay h.264 as well. As yet I haven't seen if there is a problem with MPEG-2 for DVD so I will check this out too!
Does anyone else see this happening or does anyone know what might be the problem?
I thought the Premiere Pro project might have been corrupt so tried a different project but the same issues were happening here too.
Any help would be really gratefully received.
    Cheers
EDIT - I have just found this online which is exactly the problem I am having! Thanks a bloody bunch Apple! 10.9.3 causing headaches for Mac Pro users | MacIssues

Agreed, I now have a project to GET OUT, and AME crashes consistently 1/3 into the render. It appears to halt all processing after (real time) 00:02:30
Am seriously considering uninstalling CC as I am beginning to find other issues in some apps, and going back to CS6/MC just so I can get work out. Durn it Adobe this is AWFUL!!
Alright, let's try to be constructive instead of throwing rocks... but the frustration level is high, and I have material on deadline. Let's get with this, guys...
    What OS Win7, 64-bit
What version of AME/PPro (Please be specific by getting the full version number in the About Adobe Media Encoder screen) 8.2.0.54 Ppro: 8.2.0 (65)
When is it crashing (Again, the more detail here about where it was in the encoding process the better) roughly 1/3 into the sequence, always on exactly the same frame - tried replacing the clip with something different to see if it was a timeline error, and NO EFFECT.
What is your source (PPro project or media file (what kind?)) PPro
If the source if a PPro project, does it work when exporting directly from PPro? NO
What format are you exporting to? H.264, QT, WM, tried everything my client can play.
Do other formats work? MPEG2, QuickTime, etc? NO
Have you tried with GPU rendering on? How about turning it off by switching to Software-only mode? Mine doesn't have any choice, it's software-only.
Have you tried disabling Native Sequence Loading? (AME Preferences: General > Enable Native Sequence Loading) No effect
Other things I tried: uninstalling/reinstalling AME, setting cache to a fast local disk.

  • Changing Frame Padding On Image Sequence Exports, Media Encoder

    Hello Adobe World,
I am using dynamic link from After Effects to Media Encoder and I am trying to export an image sequence with a specific numbering system for input into software code. Is there any way to change the frame padding or change the numbering system for Image sequence exports?
We are trying to speed up our workflow by Batch rendering from AME. AE does let us set our frame numbering and gives us an option for creating sub-folders (it's surprising the AE is much more organized in it's export options that AME). We need to be able to render more than one thing at a time and need to keep working in AE while the files are rendering. I have not found a workable background rendering plug-in for CC14. We could use AME if there is a way to fix the Number system.  We are working on a PC Windows 8. I can provide more system specs if it is necessary.
Side note: in AE we can use [#] to set the numbering value and in AME it does not work.
    Thank you for your help!
Still looking for an answer on this.... it's been 2 months.... Adobe team? Anyone?

    Change it to this?

  • Import Image Sequence in Media Encoder CS4?

    Hi all,
Is it possible to import an image sequence in Media Encoder CS4 to export it in FLV?
In the documentation, it's said in "File formats supported for import" that it supports jpg sequence (not png!?), but I don't know how to add an image sequence.
    Thanks

Sorry I meant, it doesn't look like can and I find that gay.

  • Time-specific Image Overlay using Adobe Media Encoder

Basically I just want to add a black screen at the end of my video. Is there a way to easily do this in Adobe Media Encoder without having to use other video production programs like After Effects or Premiere Pro?

Thanks for the input. So just to confirm, you're saying that if I choose one of the Adobe Presets under QuickTime, that that setting should STAY visible in the selection box. Yes? Just like the others. Windows Media, Adobe Flash, etc...
Because mine immediately changes to CUSTOM after I make a QuickTime selection. Also, it DOES NOT give me a file size estimate like the others. Does this make sense?
