Potential fix for "Waiting for items to copy" & "Waiting for changes to be applied" issue

Ever since I installed iOS7 on my 5th gen iPod Touch I've been unable to complete a sync without getting stuck for upwards of an hour on the "Waiting for items to copy" or "Waiting for changes to be applied" steps. However, today I finally pieced together the most useful bits of info from around these forums in conjunction with what my iTunes was doing into a potential two-step fix.
The first sync I did took about 45 minutes (and I wasn't even adding any music or apps; I just wanted to update some album info that iTunes messed up). However, during the lengthy "Waiting for items to copy" step, I happened to glance up just in time to see that iTunes was trying to copy literally thousands of Genius items that entire time. So all I did was go to Store > Turn Off Genius, and then--for added measure--Reset Sync History from Edit > Preferences > Devices tab. Hit Sync again, and for the first time since updating to iOS7 did it take less than a couple of minutes! Now every sync only takes a matter of seconds, as it should. Hope that helps at least some of you out there.
By the way, this was on a PC running Windows 7, iTunes 11.1.4.62, and iOS 7.0.4 on a 5th gen iPod Touch.

Hey I see that others are having same issue with waiting for step 7 of 7 waiting for changes to be applied. and good solution people have found or apple fixed? Thanks

What seems to work for me is to uncheck photos (then sync) and recheck photos (sync).
If the sync doesn't work I 'X' out to cancel the never ending sync, unplug then reconnect iPhone and try again.
My first iPhone, being the 4S and in my research it seems this issue goes back to early 2011. Apple c'mon.

How to get alert reminder that text media attachment is waiting for download and needs data to be turned on?

I keep my Galaxy S5 data turned off so I use free WiFi as much as possible.
This saves my data plan allotment.
If I get a text with media, i.e.
a picture, I do not get an alert tone nor reminder tone that it is awaiting download.
How do I get an alert tone that there is media ready to download?

This function called "v" is used to get the item values outside of ApEx. I use it mostly in the
triggers. The best place to learn about its usage is this forum. Search the forum on
v function
and you will find many examples.

How do I make a movie wait for a FLV cuepoint

I'm trying to synch a "talking head" FLV with some graphics,
so I simply want to get my movie to wait for a cuepoint to begin
playing again. I'm making it Flash 7 compatible, so I'm using the
older Media Display component.
Is there a "stop" and "wait for cuepoint" that would work? If
someone could give me the actionscript I should paste in the frame,
it would be greatly appreciated, since I don't really know

I'm sensing that you don't know much actionscript. If you
want to do much that is really fun and cool you will need to learn
some.
Start with the help files. Everytime you use a new component
or class go to the Actionscript Language Reference or the Component
Dictionary. Don't try searching it will generally only confuse you
more.
This next bit is going to sound silly, but the differences
are subtle and please take it in the manner it is offered.
When you say you'd like to pause at a certain frame you mean
a movieclip that you have, right?
If you check all the information about the FLVs and the Media
component you will find there is absolutely nothing that allows it
to make a movieclip pause or play. But if you check the MovieClip
class you will find there are the MovieClip.stop() and the
MovieClip.play() methods. These are the only ways to get a
movieclip to pause/stop and or play. There are no others.
So you have most of the answer there in your second post. It
is just worded a bit off.
You need a movie to pause (for which you will use the
MovieClip.stop() method) and when a cuepoint happens you will need
to start the movie using MovieClip.play();
If you check the MediaDisplay component directory there will
be sample code for how to listen for a cuepoint. I'm still using
Flash 7 so my help files are organized a bit differently, but what
you are looking for is under Media.cuePoint.
Notice the code at the bottom of the entry – READ the
whole entry, even if you don't understand it all now, read it,
outloud if it helps. You will need to have an instance of the
playback component on the stage (in this example it is called
myPlayback, but you could call it whatever you wanted, just make
sure that both names are the same.
I recommend trying this outside of your current project. Set
up a simple new document, put an instance of the playback component
on the stage, give it an instance name, assign an FLV to it, give
it a cuepoint or two, and then add the listener code, just as it
is. See how it works? Do you get the trace statements?
Then you can develop it a little further. Add some named
movieclip to your stage. Add a line myClip.stop(); Also notice that
you can give your cuepoints names? Put a few in and call some start
and some stop (or whatever you want.) Then instead of a trace in
the cuepoint listener have something that says, "If the cuepoint is
called start I should tell the movieclip to play and if the
cuepoint is called stop I should tell the movieclip to stop/pause."
I could easily write all this code out for you, but what
would be the fun of that for you? Give it your best shot and post
back as you accomplish things.

Itunes connect "waiting for review" by me or by Apple?

Hi I have uploaded a new version of my app since a week ago, and when I checked the status history, the status for "Waiting For Review" has my email as the user, but when I checked the tutorials, it should be Apple who is the user. May I know if this means the app is not going to be reviewed by Apple?

Hi etresoft, you are right that patience is a virtue.. just that I don't know if I am doing something wrong here so need some advice.
Here's a screenshot of my status. Under "Waiting For Review", the user is my email.
But in the tutorials, the user for "Waiting For Review" should be Apple.
So I am wondering if something is wrong here, because when I click the "Submit for Review" button, it automatically uses my email as the user, but how is it that in the tutorials it's supposed to be Apple?

When a vi hangs...how do I find out what it is waiting for?

I have a vi. It is "waiting for front panel activity". I cause some front panel activity by pressing a control...and the vi functions. I then press the same button again and the vi hangs, the front panel does not respond to any mouse activity. When I run the highlight execution function it shows that the case controled by the value change of the control executes to the end in the true case, but then there is no further action anywhere on (in) the vi.
How do you find out what the vi is waiting on to proceed, or which element "has the ball" so to speak.

If you have event structures, you usually have no longer any need for "wait for front panel activity". This was more of a cheap bandaid solution before the introduction of the event structure.
Many front panel operation don't need to trigger any events or do anything, so spinning the "wait for activity loop" everytime something is clicked is a total waste of resources.
You should create events only for things that really do something while other controls (e.g. configuration) don't need to be serviced by any event. The control will keep the data until it is needed by the code.
Here is an example:
You need to set aquisition parameters (rate, # of points, etc.) then press a button to start acquisition. None of the paramter settings need any events or need to spin any loops. Once start is pressed, their last settings will get read from the terminal anyway if the code is layed out correctly. And so on....

Wait for event step without callback

Hi All,
In 4.6C I have the following problem:
We have a workflow that has a fork with 2 branches, with 1 necessary for continuing the fork.
One of the branches has a dynamic parallel processing step on a multiline container element, where each parallel process is a wait for event step. For example if the multiline element has 5 records, than there will be 5 parallel wait for event steps on this branch, and if all 5 are completed, then the workflow continues after the fork and the other branch should be logically deleted (normal behaviour).
The other branch has a single wait for event step, if this event is received, the other branch's parallel wait for event steps should be deleted to continue.
The problem is that when the event for the latter single wait step is received, the step gets completed, but sometimes the parallel wait for event steps on the other branch are not deleted and the wokflow does not continue. The completed wait for event step shows that the callback is not completed yet.
I tried to fix these steps in SWPC, but in 4.6C it does not work for wait for event steps w/o callback. There's an OSS note for higher releases where this is fixed to enable SWPC for wait for events, so I copied it to a custom program and use that right now.
First question is why does the system not continue these workflow's when the event is received? My guess is that the tRFC calls get stuck and when the tRFC job reprocesses the entries, it does not do it correctly. For example lately we had a tablespace problem that caused some tRFC calls to go into error. The waiting steps in the instances were completed w/o callback. I reprocessed the tRFC entries, which created new entries in the Workflow logs showing that the events are received, but the workflows still hang.
Second question, it takes a lot of time to logically delete those parallel wait for event steps. When the event for the single wait for event is received and the workflow continues w/o problem, it may take tens of minutes from the receipt of the event until the parallel wait for event steps get deleted and the WF continues. Why does it take so long?

Regarding the delay and the hundreds of thousand SWW_CONT updates... the main workflow on one branch does a dynamic parallel processing of a subworkflow using a multiline container element that can have 50 or even 100 elements. So we can have 50 or even 100 subworkflows waiting for their event to be triggered.
The main workflow container contains many elements, some multiline with long structures, so in one instance the main flow had 8000 entries in SWW_CONT (each field of a structure is a separate record in SWW_CONT).
Now if I do the math, when this workflow loads all the container elements of the main flow into the 100 waiting subflows before deleting them and continuing along the other branch, it creates 100 times 8000 entries in SWW_CONT, that is 800.000 inserts!
And this was ONE single workflow.. Imagine when we have just a few hundred and they all want to continue at the same time...
Anyway, the beauty comes now....
I created a simple main flow with a single multiline import parameter USERS of object USER. It has a fork with 2 branches, 1 enough to continue. One branch is a user decision with 1 option: Continue. The other branch has a subworkflow and it does dynamic parallel processing with the multiline element USERS.
The subworkflow has one single import element USER of object USER. It has only one step, a wait for event, waiting for the DELETED event of the USER object.
That's the scenario.
When I start the main flow, filling the USERS parameter with two user objects, on the first branch it starts the two parallel waiting subflows with one user each, and I get the decision step on the other branch. If I check the subflow containers this time, they only have one USER object each.
Now if I complete the user decision, the workflow continues, logically deletes the subflows and completes. If I check the subflow containers after this, they all include the USERS multile container element with all the USERS I started the main flow with!
So this time it was a different main flow, different subflow, different events. I guess there can't be any custom code doing this, unless there's some generic workflow user exit somewhere.
Feel free to test this yourselves if you have 4.6C, quite easy scenario. Guess I'll try in ECC 6.0 too just to see...
And I'll report to SAP for sure.

I need help making a VI for waiting for a trigger. I am working with a TDS 2024 scope.
I have to tell the scope how long to wait for the trigger and if it does not find it in that time, then it will tell the user that no trigger was found.

Time to break out the scope manual and see what commands are needed to achieve this. Put a VI together and then we can talk about refining it.
Alternatively, you can see if you can find some drivers for this scope. I think Tektronix has pretty good LV support.
(This assumes you know how to use the scope.)

Wait for field to equal to value not working in Sharepoint desginer 2013

WF2 Update the list correctly but WF1 not work properly but
when I update list Item then it works fine for WF1 .

WF2 update a column value as show in fig above perfectly fine, where WF1 in waiting state to get the status.
but status is already updated.
When I have edit the same item in which WF2 update its column value then my WF1 working fine for " wait for Other Task Parallel value equal to started" action in my Agent list.

Media Recovery Waiting for thread 1 sequence (in transit)

I have rebuilt our standby database using an rman duplicate since it was missing many archive logs.
Following the duplicate, the standby is now almost in sync with the primary. Logs are shipping across but are not being applied in a timely manner. How long should it take for an archive log from the primary to be applied to the standby?
I need to know this so that a proper script can be set up to check the primary and standby. At the moment they are never exactly in sync - always one sequence number behind the primary.
Why is the standby is not applying in a timely manner?
From the alert log:

I should add that I understand that for the Primary and Standby to be out by one log is not cause for concern (they are applying). Its just that I wanted to script a check that would compare them both, and and the moment they are never equal - when I understand that they should be and that the logs should be applied almost immediately.

Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

Wait for user input in middle of method

I have a method in the middle of which I want to give the user a chance to click one of several Buttons. Here is the basic design of the method:
Private Sub MyMethod()
'Code before I need extra input
'This is where I want to wait for the user to click a Button
'This is where I will be using the results from the clicked Button
'The waiting for input and using the results will happen multiple times inside a loop
End Sub
The code is in a loop, so exiting the method and putting the rest of the code in the Button handler would not be appropriate. How can I ask the user for input and then return that input to the method where I left? I seem to be tempted to use some kind of async
method, but since the input will be coming from the user (not another method), that doesn't seem like it would be right (but I don't have a huge amount of experience with async, so I could be wrong about that). Can anybody help me? Thanks.

Hi Nathan,
You're on the right track: you'll need to await an Async function to put a delay in the middle of your method. The button click will notify the async function to finish.
You could write a custom function which returns a Task and waits for the notification from the button:
Task WaitForButtonClickAsync()
// wait for button click
and then await that in your main function:
async void BigNastyFunction()
await WaitForButtonClickAsync();
The next question is how to let the button click notify WaitForButtonClickAsync to return.
We could spin up a worker thread and have it block waiting on a notification, but there is no need to complicate things like that: WaitForButtonClickAsync can just return
Task.Delay(timeout, cancellation token) and then when the button click handler fires it can cancel the delay.

Wait for move complete not waiting for timeout

Hi,
I am running a small rotary stage with a 7358 motion controller. Occasionally when I command a new position, the "wait for move complete" seems to get triggered almost immediately even though the move is not complete. Since I have put in a "halt" downstream of this to cover the case where the move times out, the move stops immediately. The problems seems interrmittent but I haven't discovered a pattern yet except that is happens for more often when making a reverse move, i.e. I go to 1000 counts as a forward move and then back to 800 as a reverse.
Has anyone seen something similar?
