Medical Bill Straight to Collection Agency

The debt has to be delinquent before it can report as a collection. What were the agreed terms for due date of the debt?

I know you did not have time to check before your son's surgery but is this group (the doctor) in-network? If so, check with the insurance company because if they are in-network and did not bill the insurance first, they may not be able to legally bill you. It could be in your insurance company's contract.  To me it makes NO sense to just send a bill to collections since they get pennies for the dollar (unless they have some deal with the collections agency but then how does the collection agency make money???). I don't know the legalities of it but see if the collection agency (is it showing on your son's reports?) will do a PFD or pay for not reporting (if it's not showing yet). That'll at least clear up your son's credit if nothing else. You could try complaining to the hospital for using that group's services but I have a feeling anesthesiologists are not easy to come by and they will continue to use them. Sorry you got involved with such a shady group.  I will refrain from ranting about the healthcare system here but I totally agree with Canadian-In-Seattle -- I lived in Japan and medicine was SO MUCH cheaper, no bills out of nowhere, and the cost of my health insurance was based on my income so it was affordable.

  • Switched to shared plan-bill on old account sent to collection agency without notice!

On 9/16/12, my husband and I visited a Verizon store to upgrade our phones and enroll in a 2-year renewal contract, as we have done for years.  While speaking with an in-store representative, we were encouraged to combine our plans into a family shared plan. We took the necessary steps to do this and my husband moved his account to combine with mine.  From this point onward, we paid one bill together. We assumed my husband’s account was correctly closed and never heard anything else about it from Verizon.   We were therefore unpleasantly surprised to receive a letter from a collection company demanding that he pay a $135.63 charge from his old account that we previously knew nothing about.
I have been a loyal customer since 2003 and have never missed or even been late on a payment throughout this time.  To find out that there is a delinquent account sent to a collection agency which will affect my family’s credit is very disconcerting.  Further, to read stories from former Verizon customers saying that they too had received letters from collection agencies regarding unpaid bills that Verizon never alerted them about leaves me wondering whether the procedures for closing an account are being properly conducted.   In our case, the situation is even more frustrating since we are not former customers that Verizon had trouble contacting regarding outstanding charges.  We are current customers who would have been happy to make a payment had we been aware of it in writing.  A simple search would have shown that my husband’s phone number is still valid and is now part of my account in our shared plan.  We would have expected to have either received a bill addressed to him regarding a final bill that was owed on his old account (he used auto-pay while that account was active) or to have had the final charge moved to my current account, since I am now the primary account holder with both of our phone numbers under one plan.  It would seem surprising to send a bill to a collection agency when dealing with someone who is a current customer.
There is no issue with making a payment directly to Verizon as long as our credit is not affected.  We have written a letter to Verizon but have not received any response from them in a month and a half. Has anyone else successfully dealt with a similar issue?
    Thank you.

He didn't receive a hard copy because he had paperless billing set up (as well as auto pay).  We checked his email for any billing statements sent and there were none after the account was closed.  As SydneyK mentioned, since he only had paperless billing, after the account was closed there was no way to access it online and see that there was an outstanding balance.  In fact, the Verizon representative stated that his account would be "moved over" to mine, which to me implied that everything, including a balance, would be "moved" to the shared plan. We finally figured out what the outstanding balance was for - for the new phone he upgraded to when we went to the store to upgrade our phones and switch to the family plan.  They had charged his account for the phone, rather than my account/the shared account. Ugh.

  • PFD for 2 Medical Bills at the Same CA Agency

How do I proceed?  Made the mistake of waiting for a medical bill for myself to be ran through our insurance.  No idea why, but it never did and went to Alliance Collections in December of 2014 for $205.  Second bill for our son went to Alliance Collections February 2015 for $164. I had been paying on this one monthly after it went through insurance, but they sent it anyways.  Now they are showing on my credit report, as well as my husband's.   I am hoping to do a PFD, we are happy to pay in full, but really need them removed.  Balance shows as 0 on the account from the OC, so pretty sure that the CA is the owner.  I have not been able to find anything on them through searching, only Alliance One.  Is it possible it is connected directly to the clinic?  The website for the collection agency always seems to be "down/unavailable". Considering that there are 2 accounts at the same CA, and on both of our reports...how do I address a PFD?  I want to make sure they are taken off both of our reports, not just one.  I do not want to pay twice, or leave one of us with just a Paid in Full.  Do I reference both accounts and both of our names?  I am hoping that receiving full payment for 2 accounts will be appealing? I am so mad at myself for letting these go.  We want to buy a house next spring/summer and I know that these will not look good.  I was pregnant, in school, and struggling to keep up with the kids all while having a chronic sinus infection and a husband who works 24 hr shifts.   Thank you!!

You can expressly stipulate, in any negotiations, how any payments are to be applied to the debts they are attempting to collect.Just include, in any negotiations, how your payments are to be applied to which debt. "FDCPA 810  Multiple DebtsIf any consumer owes multiple debts and makes any single payment to any debt collector with respect to such debts, such debt collector may not apply such payment to any debt which is disputed by the consumer and, where applicable, shall apply such payment in accordance with the consumer's directions."

  • Cheques based commission to collection agency

    Hi All,
I have requirement where we need to pay commission to the collection agencies on the bases of numbers of cheques collected by the agency. Collection agency is only responsible for collecting cheques only from drop boxes irrespective of due date and amount and send the respective file on daily basis. Later on monthly basis company pay commission to the agency on the basis of number of cheques collected .
Currently we are making outgoing payments(Refund) from FICA only. Now my doubt is:-
If we have to proceed the same from FICA then apart from collection agency configuration what more I need to do for per cheque wise commission?
If it is from FI then against what we can post payment and issue commission's cheque?
Thanks in Advance. Valuable inputs will be appreciated.

Hello Forum - Has anyone had any experience working with this collection agency - ARstrat? I have this on my CR and is 1 of 2 collections left on my report. Not much on the internet about them. It is for a medical bill from 2014 for $1300. I was going to call in to negotiate a PFD but wanted to see if anyone had any past dealings beforehand. Being a fairly recent collection, for a sizeable amount and still within the SOL, I would hate to approach it the wrong way without a chance for PFD and get taken to court in the process of trying to hold out for what I want. Was thinking about sending a letter, but wanted to resolve sooner than later.  The last 2 medical collections I settled were done by phone, went to the local office, paid, and picked up a deletion letter.  This collector is based in Houston, wont be that simple. Thanks myFICO.I would attack this with these steps. For unpaid medical debt that is reporting on your CR:
    1. Call the OC and ask that they recall the collection in exchange for full payment
    2. Send the reporting CA a PFD offer
    3. Google the HIPAA Process and contact its creator for help

  • Collection agency reporting individual invoices

I have three collection's for medical left on my report, they are paid. Now my question is these are three seperate invoices reporting, they are all from the same doctor and the account history with the dr office shows me having one account number and these visits were seperate invoices. Can the collection agency report these individually and if not what part of the fcra prevents them from doing this. Thanks in advance

There is no explicit provision of the FCRA that addresses how multiple billings on the same account are reported.Ít is strictly a CRA credit reportng gudelines issue. The CRA credit reporting manual calls for the reporitng of debt with the same creditor as a single collection.I would send a dispute to the CRA requesting their reinvestigation of the reporting of debt under a single OC account as multimple collections.

  • How to add fields in fp03 Extenal Collection agency screen

    Hi All,
As per our requirement, I need to add a check box and a date field in FP03 transaction - Extenal collection agency screen. I couldn't find any screen exit,BADI. Any one know how to add these two fields on the screen and save the values in DFKKCOLL and DFKKCOLLH table.
    Your answer is highly appreciated.

    Hello,
I do not know the either user exit or BAdi for FP03. However I can suggest you a work around.
You can add an addl tabstrip in FPE2/FPE2M.  This is possible by adding an addl field say 'ZZ' in tables DFKKOP/DFKKCOLL/DFKKCOLLH.
<also pls look into OSS Note 851023>
So when ever an item is submitted to collection agency, this field should be updated.
    Hope this helps

  • Collection agency illegally added collection to report?

Just found this today after re newing my monthly subscription here.   Here is the story.  A girl i know had a collection with this collection agency.  She ask me to help her out so i told her i would pay the collection for her.  This collection is totally hers 100% in her name etc.  So i call in to the collection agency and pay the collection for her on my debit card.  This collection was in no way associated with me or has never been on my credit report and never was in my name or associated to my name. So guess what happens next??  Few days after i pay it for her it shows up on MY credit report as a paid collection!  **bleep**? I will call them first thing this morning and demand they call Experian to remove asap but what else should i do?  This has to be illegal i would think.

its with experian.  I had applied for credit for something and was denied because of a collection account or public record and i was like huh? i dont think so.  So i came back on here and there it was.  I called the collection agency and spoke to a lady who said we understand it should have never been on there and we have requested three times to have it deleted but it hasnt.  So i called experian right after and that lady says they havent received any request for deletion so she has started a dispute and is going to reach out to them.  I have requested from the collection agency something in email saying it should be deleted so i can upload it to experian but i already know i will be locked down for 30 days probably while i wait this bs out!

  • Recalled items reported incorrectly to collection agency

    Hi there,
We recently upgraded our system to ECC 6.0 in the month of February 2010. We have a problem with recalled items.
Issue description: Open items are submitted (Transaction: FP03M)to collection agency 'X' by the dunning activity when they reach a certain dunning level. After a 60 day period, the uncollected items (at colleciton agency) are recalled back (Transaction FPCI) to the organization from the collection agency 'X'. The recalled items are written-off 5 days later (Transaction FP04M). This write-off process creates a) Statistical Write-off and b) Write-Off receivable items. The Statistical Write-off items are submitted to a different collection agency 'Y' (Transaction FP03M). Later, the business users reverse these items (Statistical write-off and write-off receivables items) to make corrections/adjustments on them. When the users reverse these items the updates ( reversals, resets, payments etc.) on these items should be sent to collection agency 'Y' and not to collection agency 'X' because they have been recalled from this agency. But the updates are being sent to both the collection agencies (X and Y). With the updates sent to collection agency 'X' after recall, there is mis-matching balances between our organization and collection agency 'X'.
Has anyone come across this problem? Anyone there to help me out? Any clues/suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
    Regards,
    Praveen

    Hi Amlan,
I tried this too. The variants are same in both the systems. Unfortunately, Production seems not to work right.
I have a explanation of this issue in a different view which might help understand it better.
The order of submission status is different in Production system compared to same scenario in Development.
Order of submission status for open items:
    Production:
    01-  Receivable released for submission
    02 - Receivable submitted
    09 - Receivable Recalled
    06 - Receivable Written-0ff
05 - Receivable Reversed (here, after write-off on recalled items, Statistical write-off and Receivable write-off items are reversed)
    02 - Receivable submitted
Above order of submission status for an item seems unachievable in development.
    Development/QA:
    01-  Receivable released for submission
    02 - Receivable submitted
    09 - Receivable Recalled
    06 - Receivable Written-0ff
09 - Receivable Recalled (System assumes this status after the item(write-off receivable) is reversed)
    05 - Receivable Reversed
If you notice the order of submission status above, in Production status is ending with 02 for an item. System is assuming 02 status as receivable submitted to first collection agency 'X'. And hence when the item is reversed, the updates are sent to first collection agency too.
    Thanks,
    Praveen

  • Collection Agencies

    Hey Experts,
I have to make a list (ABAP) of all documents in a Collection Agency.
I use table DFKKCOLL to start from. I thought it would be simple by just selecting the appropriate status, but  encounter some problems.
I know a document is first released (Status 01) and then submitted (Status 02). But there a lot of statuses. For example status 11 u2018Partially Paidu2019.
It is possible to have the following sequence: 01 --> 02 --> 11
But it is also possible to have: 01 --> 11.
So how can I know If I see status 11, if the document is in a collection agency.
This is possible by the field AGDAT, the submitting date.  In my first scenario this date is filled in, in the second scenario its empty.
Everything fine until now, but it get more complicated.
Status 09 u2018Receivable Recalledu2019, calls an Item back from the collection agency.
So I could remove status 09 from my list.
    But what do I do in the following scenario: 01 --> 02 --> 09 --> 11.
In this scenario I have again status 11, the AGDAT field is filled up, but itu2019s not in the collection agency because of status 09. So how can I see this?
    Thanks
    Steven

    Hi,
I have investigated the DFKKCOLL table.
And technically it is possible to read the complete history and decide based on this history if a receivable is in a collection agency or not.
But because there are so many situations that can happen, the code would be complicated.
I was wondering how SAP determines if a receivable is in a collection agency. Is there any standard report that I can debug? I already know FP03L, but this report shows only the status.
    Another question.
Does anyone know how to get status 05?

  • Collection Agency Configuration

My client has multiple third party collection agencies; they would like to equally distribute the CAs between both collections agencies. Is there a place where we could assign the collection agency to a CA and give the user the ability to easily update the collection agency to which past due receivables will be submitted to?
and my other question is about transaction FP03M, when we run this transaction on what basis it releases contract accounts to collection agencies? as we do have multiple collection agencies I am not sure how exactly system will release contract accounts to particular collection agency. Is there any specific configuration for this?
Please let me know if you need extra information. Thanks.
    Kind Regards,
    Nikhil J

    Hi Nikhil,
When you perform a release either thru FP03E\FP03M, event 5060 is triggerred.
You can design your own allocation rules in this event depending on your business requirement.
Moroever, if you want the users to allocate the accounts to the collection agency in equal proportion, then you can code  in this event .
If Sy-tcode EQ "FP03E', then it triggers the allocation rules and automatcially releases the accounts to a particular agency depending on the rules set.
Now if you have two collection agencies and you want to allocate the debts in equal proportion automatically, then you first need to maintain these collection agencies in a custom table along with the specific percentages and then call them in the allocation rule.
You need to build in a logic for mainataining the propotion b/w the items released to the collection agency.
I dont  think there is any standard process to decide on the criteria for releasing the accounts to the collection agencies. It depends on the business requirement , say-All the contract accounts belonging to the same BP are released to the same collection agency.
    Hope it helps....
    Thanks,
    Amlan

  • Collection Agencies for Submission---Choice?

I have configured the Submit to Collection Agency for two agencies (ex. A and B).   When I submit an account individually(FP03E) it will allow me to submit to either agency.   However, when I use the mass submission function (FP03DM) I am only able to submit to agency A, when I try to submit to Agency B, I receive a message that there is no receivable to submit, but in fact there are receivables to submit.
I see that there are events and a derivation for choosing an agency, but I am unsure if this the route to take.   We will not be submitting accounts to agencies based on certain criteria (ex. addresses of account).
Thank you in advance for any and all help/suggestions/advice.

  • Collection agency keeps renewing past due account please help

Hello everyone.  I have a collection agency ERC that first showed on all 3 of my credit reports back when i pulled a report in 2010.  At that time, ERC (acting on behalf of Sprint) was reporting a collection account opened 12/1/2008 with a balance of $2,076.  A partial account number is provided 157XXXXXX.  I have never spoken to anyone regarding this. Fast forward to last month when i decided i wanted to really fix up my credit.  I pulled my credit reports again and it shows ERC still BUT only this time it shows "plced for collections 12/30/2014, for $2,104 and a different partial account number #11741XXX. My question is, since i never spoke to them ackoqwleding even the orginal debt, how can they restart the collection clock?  It's now showing a possible 2019 deletion date on an account that was placed for collections in 2008 which i NEVER acknowledged! Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

    fcf313 wrote:
Yes the account was mine, but grossly inflated. I thought If at anytime after an account is first placed into collections and on your report if you acknowledge that debt it restarts the reporting time clock.Depending on the state the SOL can be extended based on, usually a written acknowledgement, but that does not change the DOFD, I can't speak with certainty how this affects you but I have some experience in research, this thread I believe speaks directly to your point: http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Rebuilding-Your-Credit/quot-The-law-limits-how-long-you-can-be-sued-on-a-debt-quot/td-p/1891703/page/2 There are two aspects: the exclusion time period i.e. how long it can be reported which I beleive is 7 years plus 180 days from the DOFD that preceded the original CO/deliquency. Then there is the actionable aspect of sueing you for said debt which I beleive is governed by the SOL previously mentioned AND the admittance that the debt is yours that would be used in court to prove thier case. This is why you do not want to admit the debt is yours as you would loose your case before it started, but if you choose to pay the debt prior to being sued than it is not relevant. Paying debts that are yours is one thing, which you should do, admitting guilt and thus incrimintating yourself you are under no obligation to do, legally or otherwise. everyone know that standard comment: "I, John Doe, refuse to answer on the grounds that I may incriminate myself"

  • Status of Item Submitted to Collection Agency = 03

    Hi Experts,
By using TCODE - FP03 we can do management of submitted items. Now my question is when and how status of Item submitted to Collection Agency will become '03'? '03' basically stands for receivable paid by collection agency.
Any business process/transaction will be really helpful.
    Thanks.

I think transaction FP03F & FM 'FKK_COLL_AGENCY_UPDATE_STATUS' can actually help me in this case.
I found some info regarding transaction: FP03F. Business Process =
File received to collection agency -> receivables collected -> file sent to SAP -> FP03F -> Status updated to '03'.
Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.
