Member range in Data Forms

We have recently upgraded from 9.3.1 to 11.1.2.1 and have noticed some errors on our data forms in Planning.
We have created 12 Essbase substitution variables to handle the periods in our rolling forecasts (mon1, mon2, mon3, mon4, mon5, mon6, mon7, mon8, mon9, mon10, mon11, mon12).
All data forms have been configured to use the variables as the period, i.e. in the data grid we set the columns to contain period data and the values to to be "mon1, mon2, mon3, mon4, mon5, mon6, mon7, mon8, mon9, mon10, mon11, mon12"
In certain scenarios we don't forecast all 12 months. In this case the process has been to set all "extra" months to the last forecasted month. For example if we were to forecast Jan through Jun the variables mon1 through mon6 will contain Jan through Jun and the variables mon7 through mon12 will contain the value Jun.
In system 9 in case the forms only display the period Jun once, but in system 11 the period Jun is shown once for each time the variable is in the form.
System9:
Jan|Feb|Mar|Apr|May|Jun
System11:
Jan|Feb|Mar|Apr|May|Jun|Jun|Jun|Jun|Jun|Jun|Jun
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,
This was a trick that worked fine until 11.1.1.3. It should supposedly work fine in the latest version if Oracle did not fix some things for the worse. I can't really say I've tested this but I would advise you to check couple of things.
In order this to work as expected, all subs. variables that you want repetitions be suppressed should be placed in the same column piece. Placing them in individual columns would result in repeating them multiple times. Meaning, if you place for example year 2 and all months subs. variables in the same column Planning should display the repeated period references once only.

  • How can I fix the 1st column width (member) in Planning data forms

    Hi all,
does anybody know a trick, how I can fix the first column width in planning data forms? I need a composite data form (Planning 9.3.1) and the problem is, that in the first form the member names are longer. So Planning sizes the column as it is needed to display the full member name. The member names of the second data form are shorter, so the data entry cells are not exactly among each other for both data forms and that looks terrible....
    Thanks and kind regards
    André

There are 3 ways of setting the width in webforms:-
    1. There is a global setting for input box length which has a syntax of FormInputBoxLength=30.
    2. When you specify the format for each of the dimensions you can choose to select the width of either a column heading or a row heading. In the following example, each time you specified the dimension ‘Account’ a format would be applied to its header. The syntax for this would be something like… HeaderOptionAccount=Length:50,Style:font-size: 12pt;font-family: calibri
    3. Each column can have its own width specified. The syntax for this can be setting in each of the column’s code. For example C6=Blank,Style:Background-color:rgb(203,218,231);width:3 would just show a thick vertical line as the width is so small.
You can not set widths in data grids through the normal settings. You can manually change the widths and save the grid though. This can be done in the xml directly. For example… <HDRWIDTH idx=”0″ width=”50″/>.
Then load the amended xml file back into the system.

  • Member selection in data forms

    Hi
We have Program and Queue dimendions in our application.
When we implement the security on Program dimension then the user will be able to see only the programs related to him.
We can extend the security to Queue dimension such that the user will be able to view the queues that are related to him.
In this way we can restrict the number of programs and queues that get listed in the drop down in a data form.
But suppose a user has access to 5 programs and each program has 4 queues then all the 20 queues will get listed in queue drop down box irrespective of which one of the five program he has selected in the program drop down box.
But the user wants in a way that If he selects a particular program only the respective queues should display.
    Is this possible?

  • BegBalance Member Input on Data Form

    Hello All-
I have member "Begbalance" in my Time period dimension. If i select that member on form it Greens out all the cells. However if i select "dec" instead of begbalance member the form shows me yellow cell. How can i let the form select
the member begbalance on form and have the same yellow cells as in case for dec. I am on Planning 9.3.1.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
If you go to the administration of your scenario dimension, edit a scenario member e.g the member that is on your form. make sure "Include BegBal as Time Period" is ticked.

  • Error when opening large data forms

    Hi,
We are working on a Workforce planning implementation. We have 2 large custom defined dimensions.
When opening large data forms we get a standard "Error has occurred" error. If we reduce the member selection the data form opens fine.
Is anyone aware of a setting that can be increased to open large data forms? Im not referring to the "Warn id data form is larger than 3000 cells" setting.
Im pretty sure there is a parameter that can be increased but I cant find it.
    Thanks for your help.
    Seb

    Hi Seb,
If you do find the magic parameter then let us know because I would be interested to know.
It is probably something like ALLOW_LARGE_FORMS = true :)
In the planning logs is the error related to planning or is essbase related error.
Is it failing due to the amount of rows or is it because it is going beyond the max of 256 columns ?

  • How to show two different aliases in planning data form

I have two alias members in the Alias dimension-Default,alias-1.
Alias is associated with all the dimensions.
For ENTITY dimension i have values for both the aliases.
Now my requirement is to show Default alias member in one planning data form and alias-1 member in another data form.
How can this be achieved ?

If this is a consistant requirement, you could create another alias table and assign the aliases as a concatenation of the two aliases you need to see at the same time.
IOW, export both tables, and in excel or a text editor, concatenate the two existing aliases for each member into one string, then import that list into yet another alias table.

  • Selecting a member range on Planning Data Forms?

    Hi all,
Can somebody confirm it is not possible to select a range as a member on a Planning Data form?
    Here is my situation:
Description: On a planning form we would like to populate forecast months. Currently planners can input data to six months: Jul-Dec. In October, we will change it to Oct:Dec.
Issue: For each data form, we need to manually add/remove members.
Failed attempt: Created a SubVar and assigned the following range: &CurFstMo:Dec. Of course it failed :)
Work around: I think the easiest solution is to display 12 monts and change the start and end date for Forecast scenario. I need to check with the planners if they'd be ok with displaying all 12 months other than just the input months.
Can you think of another solution?
    Thanks,
    Mehmet

  • How to change the order of parent member on data forms

    Hi,
Is there any way to show parent on top of its children in data form row level?
By default data form display members like this:
    __Child 1
    __Child 2
    +Parent
Instead of above i want this sequence:
    +Parent
    __Child 1
    __Child 2

  • Use member on data form does not work

    Hello,
"Use member on data" option does not work on composite Data Form. Business rule associated with composite form.
    Who is resolve this problem?
    Version hyperion: 11.1.2
    Thanks

I don't have a solution for you but more steps to solve the problem
You are ultimately on the right track in some ways but break it down into it's components.
The problem could like in the business rule, the form connection, the variables, even the order of operations could all be in play.
So I would strip this baby down to its bare bones then build it back up.
    1) Run the business rule. Each one separately and only after the previous ones is complete without variables and without touching the form
Is it successful: go to 2
If it isn't successful: trouble shoot the calc and or try running in EAS natively to see if that gives you ideas
    2) Run the calc outside the form but with variables included. Did it prompt you correctly.
Is it successful: go to 3
If it isn't. What is wrong with the variable
    3) Now attach it to the form but don't hide the prompts
    Still good go to 4
    4) hide the prompts and run on save
And if it fails on step four then it's not picking up the right variables in the prompt. And you need to look at why it wouldn't grab the right item.
This will isolate your problem for you and give you steps to fix it. Ultimately 99% of the time something did change in the structure for example that is impacting the calc. And when you isolate the problem this will reveal itself quite quickly.

  • Member Lists defined by user in Data Grids or Data Forms

    Hi guys,
I'd like to know if it is possible to include in either a Data Form or a Data Grid a member list created by myself.
If it's possible, could you please tell me the steps to do so? I tried using AddMember:MemberList but it did not work.
    Thanks!
    L.

    Hi,
We can see this option in the Member Attributes of Dimensions.
Specifies the account name used for identifying differences in intercompany transactions. The PlugAcct
attribute is required when the IsICP attribute for the account is selected.
When we run an inter-company transaction the difference amount would be reflected in Plug Account. We need to write a rule to see that difference amount in the plug Account.

  • Data Forms member drill down

    Hi,
In data forms when i drill down to some member i always have the ancestor at the bottom. Is it possible to set it up to have the ancestor on the top?
When i drill down i would like to have my e.g. Revenue Total as a member on top and its descendants below when i drill down....
    Thank you very much
    lubos

    Hi Lubos,
We have faced a similar situation ,where our clint while drilling down , he wants the parent on top. Not only in data form, its the same in reporting tools like Web analysis.
We did not find any setting which can change this pattern. We end up education users ? :)

  • How to build Dynamic Data Form in Planning

    Hi,
I need for building Data Form in Planning 11.1.2.0 with table columns that would be consist of (example 1):
    - Nov 2011 - Actual
    - Dec 2011 - Actual
    - Jan 2012 - Actual
    - Feb 2012 - Forecast
    - Mar 2012 - Forecast
    - Dec 2012 - Forecast
Note: current period is "Feb" and current year "2012" has been got from Essbase substitution variables.
How to build Dynamic Data Form in Planning app using @relative function for period and year dimensions and Essbase substitution variables?
Example 2 (for current period is "Mar" and current year "2012"):
    - Dec 2011 - Actual
    - Jan 2012 - Actual
    - Feb 2012 - Actual
    - Mar 2012 - Forecast
    - Apr 2012 - Forecast
    - Dec 2012 - Forecast

As I know you can't use such range or functions in form member selection. Below are couple of options:
Use bunch of variables for each scenario and the number depends on how many months you want to display (18 months etc..)
pre-fill the data for related months and years and use data suppress options.

Also I have tried by removing access for that user and opened the Dta Form but still it throwing me the same error:
You are trying to open the data form, but cannot because all of the required dimensions are not present. Possible causes may be that you do not have access to at least one member of a required dimension, or the member selection resulted in no members present. Contact your administrator

  • Get cell value in Planning Data form and using it in a business rule

    Hi Everybody,
if i set the data type of an Account Member as text, is there a way to get the value inserted by the user in a dataform, turning it as dimensional member and using it in a business rule?
So, if the user insert the value "USA" in a cell, can i use any functions to tell essbase that "USA" is a dimensional member and then using it in a business rule, for example in a cross-dimension like Period1->FY12->USA?
I tried to use the function @Member and it doesn't work, but i'm wondering if there is a way that can let me get the value inserted and use it just like a dimensional member. What are the ways that can let user input value that can be used in a business rule? I think one is by using SmartList, is there any other ways? Maybe using variables?? As an alternative i tried to use Prompt Variable but there are too many members on which the rule must run.
Please help me, i wanna know if i can or not let the user input the member on which the rule must run...
    Thank all guys
    Bye
    Maurizio

    Thanks EW for your answer,
YesI could use SmartList even if i think it's very tough to handle. My experience on using SmartList in caclc script is not so good. I try to enter in details of my requirement:
    I have 500 account members.
For each one, I have to calculate the monthly budget by sharing the amount among the months. The user wants to calculate it on the basis of the actual flow(over the months) of an unspecified account of the prior year. The unspecified account must be inserted in a data form.
So, i could use a Smart List but it colud be of 500 elements and then i should make a rule with as many IF as how many are the accounts. Or im wrong? The only way to use smart list dynamically in a business rule is by referring its values in a IF condition. Or i'm wrong.
I tried to use execution variable ma it seems don't work. In this case the user must pay attention to write the account correctly, otherwise as you say the rule doesn't work.
The value in PD0A020 is "PD0A000" (that is a dimensional member). The value in PD0A000 is "hello". In PD0A040 the rule returns "PD0A000" and not "hello" as i would. The function @Member appears to be not able to catch the dimensional member by the value in PD0A000.
    {Example}="test"->"Input"->"Scenario_test"->"FY12"->"PD0A020";
    Fix("test1","Input","Scenario_test","FY12")
    "PD0A040"=@Member({Example});
    endfix
So, my doubt is: is it possible for Essbase/Planning to use the value inserted in a data form and to turn it in a dimensional member? What are the practicable ways to let the user input/choose the member on which makes the rule run?
Thank you Ew, thank you guys

  • How to add a mm-dd-yyyy date field type in a Planning Data Form

    Hi John,
pls, I have one question regarding the possibility of adding a date field type for example 03-03-2009 in a cell of Planning Data Form application.
    for example, I created:
    - 2 members in Period dimension: StartProject and EndProject and I need to enter and track date for these fields;
    - one Account member called Project;
    - and a simple form with these collumns and row;
Trying different settings for my members - seems that I cannot input date in the cell and rcvd errror: "you have entered invalid value".
Pls, can you confirm me if it's possible to enter date type in a form?
If yes, what is the specific setup for the Account and Period properties: Data storage, Time Balance, Data type, Account type etc
    many thanks,
    Robert

    Many thanks John!!! that's it!!!
I had to change it in Data Type evaluation Order because I'm using EPMA and it's working now!!
    Thanks again!!!
