Menu Bar with Menu & Menu Item Not Showing Up

Question

I can't see my menu bar. What is it that I'm doing wrong?

{     JPanel contentPane;      
     JMenuBar menuBar;      
     JMenu testMenu;
     JMenuItem testMenuItem;
     public menuSample()
     {     super();
          initialize();
     private void initialize()

          testMenu = new JMenu();

it's there, just very small. Try this line instead of what you have:
testMenu = new JMenu("test menu");
