Menu Button No Longer Responds

My mini First Gen MENU button has stopped functioning. Can't navigate backwards any more. Occassionally it starts to work again, but then stops. I just had a new logic board installed and that did nothing. Click wheel is 4 months old. Have reset, of course, to no avail. Would a clean reformatting help, or is this a common problem that requires a more drastic solution?

Menu button seems fine. Not physically stuck. Occasionally am unable to turn off iPod by depressing and holding play function.
My original problem was iPod turned on by itself one night and couldn't shut it off without reset.
Have not plugged it into computer yet, or done a Restore. Wasn't sure if a software or hardware problem.....or both?

Same thing happened to me (actually, I didn't have wet hands, but I could neither get back to the menu NOR could I shut down the mini). I did all the usual things (reset, restore, etc, etc) but nothing worked.
SHORT TERM:
I (and others with the same problem) found that you can 'back up' through your menus again by switching the HOLD button (to HOLD and back again, fairly quickly). Once you get used to it, it works every time. As far as turning it off, if I reset the mini, then I could turn it off. BIG HASSTLE, but it kept the mini working.
LONG TERM:
Mine was out of warrenty (however, my credit card is one that extends the warrenty for a year). So I went through the hassle of returning to Apple, paying $200 (yeah, you got that right, the same as a new mini). I just received my new (probably refurbished) mini back yesterday. Thankfully, I've finished all the paperwork, and expect my credit card company to pay me the $200 !

Menu button has stopped responding

Help! My 1st generation nano - my workout buddy - is not responding to my pressing the menu button. It seems to be completely dead and non-responsive. I haven't dropped it... but it may have become slightly damp from sweat.
Now it is stuck on a calendar date, and I have no way of getting it to go "back" to the main menu.
Is it done for???? Obviously with it being a 1st generation, the warranty is long gone.

Since it is still under warranty I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Menu button no longer working

Hi,
I have had my iPod since June of 2004, and I love it. Two days ago my Menu button stopped working.
Here's what's happening... for example, assume you are listening to a song. You want to stop listening to it and listen to another song on another playlist. You would press the pause button and then the MENU button. Well, the MENU button is no longer working, and I am stuck on that song.
I have tried reflashing the firmware twice using ipod-updater-2005-10-15, and then recharge the iPod. Nothing has worked.
I have also noticed that when I take my iPod off hold, the backlight goes on.
I use my iPod all the time in the car. I using a transponder, not headphones...
Any help would be appreciated...

B500 Ideacentre brightness/volume buttons no longer respond

I have a B500 Ideacentre that the front brightness, volume, ect buttons no longer light up or respond. I don't know what I did for them to stop working, but I cannot adjust the brightness of my screen anymore. If anyone knows how to fix this problem, I would really appreciate it!

Animated drop-down menu buttons won't respond onRelease

I created a drop-down menu movie clip. Within it are multiple
buttons which change their alpha values. I'm having an impossible
time of getting the buttons to respond to an onRelease from the
maintimeline.
for instance:

I can't place any code directly on the buttons because later
in the timeline the actionscript needs to change for the same

i don't think so. Sorry for my ignorance, but the code you
see is basically the only code I have in the movie.
menu_mc is located directly on the maintime line. Inside of
menu_mc are the buttons. If I place a button instance inside of
menu_mc (and there are not multiple instances of it) I can use an
onRelease and it works fine.
I can create an invisible button, place it over the animated
button and get the onRelease to work, however, since the buttons
are rollovers, I loose the animation with the invisible button
covering them up. I can't seem to target multiple instances of the
same button in the movieclip. is there any way around this?

Main button no longer responding

This looks bad news. Suddenly the main, round button (I've forgotten it's official name?) is no longer switching me back to the Home screen. If I press it right now, lightly, hard, whatever, nothing happens.
I tried switching off and then holding the power button until the Apple symbol appeared, but still the same behaviour.
In case it's remotely relevant, last night I bought the 'camera connection kit' and successfully used it to transfer many photos from my camera's SD card.
I have had an intermittently unreliable button before, but nothing as apparently permanent as this.
EDIT Fixed it minutes later! I thought I'd try individually closing all the many 'multi-processing' icons. I somehow got to that row, closed them, and the button now works again. I've left this post in place in case anyone else has a similar issue.
I think this points up a flaw or bug. I'd read that the iOS should automatically clear those old apps. But apparently it doesn't work reliably.
I'm also puzzled why my 'reset' didn't start afresh? Is there some more thorough 'purge'?

That button is called the home button.
See the section about the hard reset, but keep all these tips in mind.
These are basic steps you can try if apps suddenly quit on you or if the your IPad starts to behave erratically. Quite often these simple fixes will resolve your issue.
Quit the app by double tapping the home button to bring up the multitasking/recents tray at the bottom, hold down on any of the app icons in the tray until all the icons wiggle, then tap the minus sign in the corner to quit the offending app or apps. Try your app again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button at the top of the iPad until the red slider appears, then slide to the right to power off the iPad. Turn the iPad on again by pressing the sleep button until the Apple logo appears. Once the iPad has fully rebooted, find your app, and tap the icon to relaunch.
*Try a hard reset by pressing and holding down on the sleep button at the top of the iPad while holding down on the home button at the bottom, until the Apple logo appears and the iPad restarts. Launch the app again and see what happens.*

IP5 lock button no longer responding

The lock button on my IP5 has been acting up for the last couple of weeks and this morning it finally stopped working. I am 3 months out of warrenty so that's no an option. My question is, will replacing the power button rectify the problem or will I be wasting my time. Not sure if it goes deeper than just the button.

The repair is extremely difficult. Before proceeding all the way, just connect the new flex and try it out, to see if it fixes the problem, before you take everything apart and install it.

Menu button doesnt work

All of a sudden the menu button stopped working. It was fine one day then I put the ipod on charge, several days later when I tried to use it again the Menu button no longer works...
Actually I just realized that the Play/Pause button doesnt work correctly either. When you push and hold it it does not turn the device off anymore although it would still pause/play the songs. The forward/reverse work ok.
I tried resetting the Ipod using the updater and that didnt help. I also tried Menu + Select ... strangely enough it resets the device but after it resets the Menu key doesnt work.
Has anyone experienced this problem?
I submitted a service request. Is there any way of modifying the service request since I just realized that the play/pause button is screwed up also?
Finally, when you turn the hold on/off is that supposed to turn the backlight on/off as well? I never paid attention to it but now when I turn hold on that also turns the backlight on...is that screwed up as well?

I am having a similar problem with my mini - it turns on fine and will scroll through the menus, but will not respond by going back through the menus. Instead, it freezes on a screen and does not respond to anything except resetting it (menu & select button). Doesn't seem like the proper way to navigate through the screens and is completely frustrating. I was ready to cry yesterday at the gym because it wouldn't work and didn't know the reset "trick" until 3 hours later! I have also had many problems turning it off too. My brother who owns a regular iPod thinks I am crazy but at least I am seeing people out there with similar problems.
On another note, I have to say I am completely disappointed with Apple. The company loves to portray this user-friendly persona, but in truth it is not that way at all. I received my mini in May and have just started to use it full force this month (October) ... now my 30-day phone support has expired and if I want "live" help I have to pay $50 for extended service. That's bull - I'd like some real answers but have been relegated to chat boards (no offense) and trying to troubleshoot the problem myself by finding close but not exact postings. It seems like such a deceptive bait & switch ploy by Apple. I am tempted to send my mini back for service but just read on the web site that I could be charged up to $100 for service. Again, sounds very sneaky so not sure if I should take the risk or live with a highly annoying product defect. Any suggestions?

Why does my button no longer work in Flash Player 8?

like to upgrade things a bit while testing the new Adobe Flash CS3.
To be able to use a new function (“anti-alias for
readability”) the program warns me that “this feature
is not supported by Flash Player 6. To use this feature, you must
target Flash player 8.”
So I change the setting to Flash Player 8, leaving
Actionscript to version 2.0.
However, now one of my main menu buttons no longer works!
When I change settings back to Flash Player 6, things are fine
again. What am I overlooking?

name). Does anything change with the actionscript in CS3?

IPod Classic 160GB Menu Button

I don't know if this has been going on since I got or just started recently, but I noticed that when I hit the "Menu" button the iPod will automatically return to the first (main) menu, no matter how far into my stacks I am. This means that if I am scrolling through an artist's albums, select and album and then decide I want to listen to another album by that artist, I have click through to get to it again. It's annoying.

Do all of the other buttons on the clickwheel work okay? If not, make sure the hold switch is not in the On position. Otherwise, try a hard reset of the device. To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If it seems as though only the menu button is not working, you may want to consider returning and replacing the device while you still have time.

So far, I've already done the individual menu buttons for sections of the performance. How do I set up some kind of "play" button that will play the video of the entire performance straight through? Will this be too much material for the DVD to hold? Does the program recognize and not replicate material to save space? If so, will it interfere with that if I add edits to individual sections that will not be in the video of the entire performance?

If You only need
• Play movie in full
• Start into the movie at specific places e.g. Chapters - then play to movie ends
Then this is fairly simple - Just add Chapters in Your Video-editor (iMovie or FinalCut)
(some quirks to keep in mind - No Chapter mark in any transition or within 2 sec from it - AND - only Lettera A to Z and 0 to 9 - no other letters/symbols at all)
BUT
If You want to
• Play full movie (with or without Chapters)
• Play an individual Chapter then return to Menu
This function is not standard in iDVD - but has to be faked one way or another.
Please read my notes on this and be aware of the 60 minutes / 12 minutes limit in iDVD (THIS is including the Menu and it can take 15 minutes or more from the movie time)

1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
2. It can be faked in several ways
• Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in hight. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
• It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !
Cons: BUT - When tested with music videos - the same video on main Menu played nicely with OK Audio. The Play All version in SlideShow had a signifcant Distortion - as on telephone or worse.

You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
Summary
a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

I have an iphone4, it will not respond when I press the round menu button at the bottom. I have tried powering it down and turning it back on but does not help.

sounds like you're having a hardware malfunction. You can try restoring your phone first from backup, then as new, but if these don't help, you'll need to bring your phone to Apple.

After downloading firefox to a new computer and using sync I no longer have any navigation bar or menu button.

This is on a windows computer at work. It actually happened on 2 new computers. Before the sync, both the navigation bar and menu button were there. After the sync - Gone! I have tried uninstalling firefox and then reinstalling, but when I reinstall, the problem is already there, and the bookmarks from the sync reappear automatically on the reinstalled version. Is there any way to uninstall the sync?

Currently UI customizations do not sync. However you can add this about:config.
services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.uiCustomization.state = true
