Menu button has stopped responding

Help! My 1st generation nano - my workout buddy - is not responding to my pressing the menu button. It seems to be completely dead and non-responsive. I haven't dropped it... but it may have become slightly damp from sweat.
Now it is stuck on a calendar date, and I have no way of getting it to go "back" to the main menu.
Is it done for???? Obviously with it being a 1st generation, the warranty is long gone.

Since it is still under warranty I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

The home/menu button has stopped working on my E52. Is there a way I can retreive the info on my phone and put it on the memory card or a pc?

    Hi EmmaBarham,
    Welcome to Nokia Discussions.
Please connect your phone to Nokia Suite, once connected you'll be able to sync your phone's data to your PC.
When you're done syncing the data, I would also advice making a back up via Tools>Back up. This way you can get your phone repaired and simply restore it back onto the phone via Tools > Restore in Nokia Suite once the phone has been fixed.
You can find your nearest Nokia Care Point here. Let me know how you get on!

  • Home button has stopped responding?

I have had a 4th generation iPod touch for a little less than a year now, and recently updated it to iOS 5.0.1. Around the same time, my home button stopped responsing 95% of the time - to exit an app or really do anything I have to rapidly press the button for about a minute until it will respond. I do remember dropping it around the same time, so I was thinking it was simply that the button sensor underneath had shifted and I would have to take it in to be repaired, but after a little googling I tried quitting all the apps on my iPod and the home button started responding as normal for about thirty minutes before becoming unresponsive once more. Now I'm thinking it's a software issue instead. Any thoughts on what it could be and how I could fix it?

Since it is still under warranty I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Spotlight icon in menu bar has stopped responded

When I click the icon on the top right of the screen, nothing happens any more. I can still use Spotlight from the finder, but I'd prefer to use it via the icon.
    Can anyone help, please?
    Cheers

This happens to me and the only way to fix it is to run Onyx but this is only until you shut down or restart then it happens again. I rang apple who said dump the pref run FSCK etc etc but it still happens, when Onyx fixes it Spotlight then re indexes

  • Menu Button No Longer Responds

My mini First Gen MENU button has stopped functioning. Can't navigate backwards any more. Occassionally it starts to work again, but then stops. I just had a new logic board installed and that did nothing. Click wheel is 4 months old. Have reset, of course, to no avail. Would a clean reformatting help, or is this a common problem that requires a more drastic solution?
    Thanks!
micronpc millenium Windows XP Ipod Mini Owner

Menu button seems fine. Not physically stuck. Occasionally am unable to turn off iPod by depressing and holding play function.
My original problem was iPod turned on by itself one night and couldn't shut it off without reset.
Have not plugged it into computer yet, or done a Restore. Wasn't sure if a software or hardware problem.....or both?
    Thanks for getting back.

  • Preview has stopped responding

preview has stopped responding, menu items will open with right clicking, cannot access preferences, cannot find plist preferences file to delete it, have done repair disk permissions, now  at a loss.
    John

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    As Guest, test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Server has stopped responding

Hi there, when trying to connect to the internet (Safari) I get an error message  that the connection failed because the server has stopped responding. I can connect to the itunes store and the app store. I have re-started the computer, router, app, ipad and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • "iCloud has stopped responding" when logging in safari

ICloud work fine on my mac but when I try to log in in safari I receive the following error: iCloud has stopped responding:
    Thanks
    Steort

    Hi Steort,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
The article linked below provides a lot of great suggestions that should be able to resolve the issue.
iCloud: Troubleshooting web browser issues with iCloud.com
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4050
    Symptoms
When using iCloud.com, you may experience issues such as a web page not loading, or the web browser displaying distorted or outdated content. Learn more about troubleshooting these types of issues.
    Resolution
    Use a supported web browser
For the best web experience with iCloud.com, make sure you're using a supported web browser. For more information about iCloud system requirements, see this article.
    Enable cookies and JavaScript
Cookies and JavaScript need to be enabled in order to properly access iCloud web services. If you're not sure whether you have Cookies or Javascript enabled, visit iCloud.com. If you're missing either Cookies or JavaScript support, iCloud web pages will provide an alert. If you're unclear on how to enable Cookies or JavaScript, refer to the Help menu for your browser.
    Troubleshooting the cache
Most web browsers use a feature called "caching" to display frequently used information, images, and web resources. Caching stores or "caches" this information on your computer, so your computer doesn't have to download the same information every time it visits the same webpage. Caching makes subsequent visits to the same website or webpage faster.
If a website or webpage has been updated since your last visit, your browser sees the update and then loads the new content instead of the old cached content. In some cases, this doesn't work as expected and your browser displays the old information instead.
    Expand All | Collapse All
Follow the instructions below for clearing your web browser's cache in Safari, Firefox, and Google Chrome on a Mac; or Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome on a Windows PC.
To clear Safari's cache on a Mac (Safari 6.0 and later)
    Close any open Safari windows.
Choose Safari > Preferences > Advanced.
Select the checkbox labeled "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
    Close the Advanced window.
From the Safari menu bar, choose Develop > Empty Caches.

  • Skype has stopped responding

When I start Skype everything works with login, when I'm logined then it stops and says Skype has stopped responding. I tried to uninstall LogMeIn Hamachi but it don't work!!! Help please!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Try to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
    Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

  • Preview has stopped responding to clicks

Preview has stopped responding to clicks and now only scrolling and hotkeys work. I already tried resetting the preferences and restarting.  Once in Preview I can't click on any system menus.  The only way to switch is using 4-finger swipe to mission control and switching apps.  Restarting doesn't fix it.  Any ideas?

If the issue is limited to your user account Did have you try try starting up in Safe Mode and test.
(It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your apps functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not Copy & paste this is your "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library
Then go to/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the Desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, moveUsers/yourname/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting*
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
    * Use your Finder "Go" menu holding the option key to choose "Library"

Unlikely.  Based on the complete lack of detail of the issue provided it is entirely possible the same issue would occur.
Unless and until the user provides some actual details of the problem, there is nothing the indicate that the issue is with the iPhone.
