Merge Replication Primary Table Key Error

We have a SQL Server 2008 database that is replicated to Australia.  The primary data tables are merge replicated.  The replication cycle is 1 hour.  We have a situation where a user inserted a row into a table, deleted the row, then reinserted
it within an hour.  The merge replication failed because of a primary key uniqueness violation on that table.  We have been told that merge replication cannot handle this scenario.
From what little I can get from the MS literature, the replication triggers should have handled this.  The delete trigger should have removed the insert entry from the replication tables and the second insert should have removed the entry from the delete
replication tables, leaving the replication processing to only do the second insert.  Can anyone clarify what is really supposed to happen here or if this is in fact a limitation of merge replication?

The table creation SQL is:
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[GC_SEAM_SPEC](
      [USER_ID] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
      [SEAM_SPEC_ID] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,

  • Violation of Primary Key in Merge Replication

I have one Publisher and one Subscriber. They have
    a UK
    (Col1, Col2), PK is col1 + col2, and
    the MERGE
    REPLICATION adds a ROWGUID. Sometimes
they insert the same row when they are offline ( they generate the same UK, it's not IDENTITY column), because
of it, they generate different ROWGUID for the same row. Then, when I run the JOB for Merge Replication, I have a PRIMARY
KEY violation. I need to use the UK instead of ROWGUID.
    It is possible?
    Example:
    Table_1 (Publisher)
    Name: John (UK)
    ID: 1234 (UK)
ROWGUID: xxxxx (Created by Merge Replication)
    Table_1 (Subscriber)
    Name: John (UK)
    ID: 1234 (UK)
ROWGUID: yyyyy (Created by Merge Replication)

    Hi Alex R,
From your description, you want to use the UK(col1, col2) instead of ROWGUID, right? If so, it is not possible.
To use your own column as rowguid column in merge replication, your column should have the following properties:
    • Should be of Uniqueidentifier datatype
    • Should have the ROWGUIDCOL property set
    • Should not allow NULLs
    • Should have a default of newid()
Also please note that only one column can have the ROWGUIDCOL attribute in a table, in other words, we can only specify one column to be
    rowguid column in merge replication.

  • Merge Replication Error When Initialising subscription

I have a SQL server 2005 server with a merge publication of 6 articles all of which are tables which is also the distributor. I have two existing subscriptions one from a SQL 2005
Server and one from a SQL Server 2008 R2 Server both of which are working fine on this publication. I am trying to setup a third subscription to another SQL Server 2008 R2 server, the only difference with this server is that it is a named instance. I have
forced the port to 1433, and created an alias on the publisher connectivity is not an issue or at least i don't think so.
    when I try to initialise the subscription from a new snapshot I get the below error;
    Error: 14151, Severity: 18, State: 1.
Replication-Replication Merge Subsystem: agent failed. No subscription is on this publication or article.
    I've changed the agent profile and turned on verbose logging and output the results to a file the snapshot delivery is failing on the below for the first table;
    call sys.sp_MSsetup_identity_range (?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?)
I've checked the subscriber and the table does indeed get dropped and created, permissions / routes don't seem to be an issue. I've included some of the verbose logging output below.

The table gets dropped and recreated each time i try to reinitialise the subscription.  I can't remove the article at the moment as two other servers subscribe to the publication.

  • Application Translation Not Working - Primary Key Error

I had created an application translation to Spanish but it wasn't displaying my Spanish translation. I was going to try and redo it so I tried creating a new mapping and then seeding the translatable text. I got a primary key error "ORA-20001: Seed insert error: WWV_FLOW_TOPLEVEL_TABS.TAB_TEXT ORA-00001: unique constraint (FLOWS_030100.WWV_FLOW_TRANSLATABLE_TEXT_PK) violated".
I went in and deleted what I had done through APEX for this app and tried to create a new application but still get the primary key error when I try to seed it. I gave it a new translated application ID but that doesn't seem to help. Anyone have this problem or no of the reason I'm having this issue?
    Thanks.

    Hi David,
Thanks for reporting this. This was an interesting problem to solve.
As it turns out, it was a logic error in Application Express (i.e., bug). When deleting a translation mapping, the associated strings in the translation repository would be deleted for that application, but if and only if you had actually published the application.
I think this is why you could never get Spanish working properly - you had never actually published the application the first time. So I'll bet what you did is deleted the original mapping, then you recreated the mapping for the same language but with a different translated application ID. Since you had never published the application from the original translation mapping, and there were orphaned rows in the translation repository, you encountered a "collision" when you tried to seed the second time with the different translated application ID.
Your action of deleting rows from WWV_FLOW_TRANSLATABLE_TEXT$ cleaned up these orphaned rows. As you stated, this isn't recommended to perform DML on the underlying APEX tables. A couple alternatives could have been:
    1) Before deleting the translated application mapping, actually publish the application and then delete the mapping.
    2) If you had deleted the mapping already, you could recreate the mapping for the same language and with the original translated application ID. Then, publish the application and then go back and delete the mapping.
I realize all this sounds crazy. But it was only an issue because you had not actually published the application. Not your fault, though, as this is a bug in APEX.
This bug will be fixed in Application Express 4.0. This way, you won't have to worry about if you published or didn't publish. The orphaned rows will be cleaned up when you delete a mapping.
    Thanks again for reporting this.

  • SQLSERVER Merge Replication Error: Command attempted: {call sp_MSreleasemakegenerationapplock}

Dear Friends, I updated SQL SERVER 2k5 with SP4 and I am getting error while synchronizing merge replication.
Here is the error in Replication Monitor:
    Command attempted:
    {call sp_MSreleasemakegenerationapplock}
    Error messages:
The merge process was unable to create a new generation at the 'Subscriber'. Troubleshoot by restarting the synchronization with verbose history logging and specify an output file to which to write. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147200994)
    Get help: http://help/MSSQL_REPL-2147200994
Internal Query Processor Error: The query processor encountered an unexpected error during execution. (Source: MSSQLServer, Error number: 8630)
    Get help: http://help/8630
I executed below statement in both Publisher and Subscriber, but didn't help.
    update sysmergepublications set [generation_leveling_threshold] = 0
Some suggests that I should use SP2 Update Package, Though that is installed and I am using SP4 now.

    Hi arahmancsd,
    Hi arahmancsd,
According to your error message, when you sync data in merge replication, check if you use a SELECT INTO query statement. If you run the same INTO query twice and separately or you perform an operation that causes SQL Server to recompile the second SELECT
INTO query, they all return the error 8630 message.
    For more information, see:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323586/en-us
Since you have changed the generation_leveling_threshold to 0 in sysmergepublications table in publisher and in subscriber. Please do not update the system tables directly. You can follow the steps mentioned in workaround section of
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953568.
    Hope it can help you.

  • DataBase relation tables loses in suscribers in Merge Replication

    Hi all
I noticed that after cheking the database relation in the suscribers after installing the merge replication.
the relations in tables that I have in my Publisher database do not appear in the suscribers database.
Is this normal ? Do I have to define again the tables relations in the suscribers ?
    Thanks in advance
    James

    Hi James,
Please check your article properties and verify you have Copy foreign key constraints set to
    True.

Any idea why the error is coming up and any way to resolve it. I checked the max sequence number value and kept running it for a while and then tried to run my insert statement but no luck yet.
    Please help!!!

    Hi,
Are you tring to do the same insert more than once?
The sequence for ID will be generated and there will be no problem with that.
But what about UNIQUE INDEX schema1.LICN_UK ON schema1.table1(LITM_ID, COND_CD)?
you are trying to insert the same values again into those columns... and there is a unique index.
Test your insert by dropping the unique index LICN_UK
DROP INDEX schema1.LICN_UK;Now it will work. But if you need the uniqueness, you need to insert different values for those columns each time you insert.

  • ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: NULL index table key value Repor

W've been experiencing the Oracle Error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: NULL index table key value Report’ [we are currently on apex v3.0.1]. From the forum there was a reference to a bug fix: apex bug (6416829) fixed in 3.1. When we view '6416829' in Metalink we can see the bug title but cannot see any details as it's protected. Can anyone shed some light on why it's protected or provide further details.
We have many LIVE customers reporting this error and we want to be certain it's fixed in v3.1.
(currently we are working around this by flushing the shared pool but this is not ideal).
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Scott,
This error has been thrown several times in the past 24 hours. Yesterday several of my reports threw the error, these reports have done so in the past. This morning APEX has begun throwing the error of which I have seen only once before. This is occuring at Home>Application>My Application. The error appears when I attempt to View the report in Details mode, is OK when I view the report in Icons mode. The error is occuring in my Prodution environment which has not been updated since 2/25/2009.
As before, I edited the SQL on my application's reports and the error then disappeared.
We are running Application Express 3.2.0.00.27 and Oracle Release 10.2.0.1.0. My browser is IE 7.0.
Plan to test later with FireFox provided I can download it to see if this might browser related.
Any inforamtion or guidance is appreciated.

  • Problem with primary/secondary keys in table with included structures

    Dear ABAPers,
we have a structure which is supposed to be included in the definition of several tables.
    The problem is the following:
depending on the application table that includes this structure, 3 or 4 fields of that structure may
or may not be necessary to enhance the table key. As far as I know included structures can only
completely be marked as keys. Therefore I suggested to split up the structure into two parts,
one part with the possible candidates that may become key fields, and the rest, and of course
a structure that unites both of these substructures. So when it comes to reusing this structure
the developer would have the choice to select the structure with all of the fields in case no field
is needed as additional key, or the developer would have to implement both of the substructures
separately with the option to mark the key-part of it as key in his table.
But unfortunetaly this suggestion of mine was refused as being too complicated and I am supposed
to define all the fields in one flat structure and to "enhance" the primary keys (that always will exist)
    by secondary keys.
Does anybody know how that is supposed to work without defining double indexes?
I cannot activate a table without having primary keys defined and any unique secondary index would
allways include all of the primary keys.
Thanks in advance for you help
(I'm sorry that you cannot be granted reward points for just reading the extensive problem description)
    regards
    Andreas

    Dear Rob,
since your answer was helpful and since it was the only one I will grant you full points on that.
Thanks again for your input. In case other developers should look this thread up being confronted
with the same kind of problem, here is how we solved it:
We added an artificial primary key (a number of type NUMC 8) to the table which is supposed to
include the structure. This key alone takes care of the uniqueness of eacht entry.
All the others fields that we want to have available for a fast direct access, including the ones
from the included structure, are put together in a secondary index.
    best regards
    Andreas

  • Missing primary foreign key in grandchild table

I have a model with a two inheritance generations.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/4rghqcmxx24bgvt/pf_logical.png
When I engineer all entities everything is fine. The child tables get their primary foreign keys:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/t4v5bexxwdrn5y1/pf_engineered.png
But when I do not engineer the child generation the grandchildren have no primary foreign keys anymore.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ofl436sm8dua3w8/pf_missing.png
I have expected, that the grandchildren get a primary foreign key to the grandfather. But that is not the case. How can I tell the modeler to engineer such a foreign key?

    Hi,
thanks for reporting the problem. I logged a bug for that.

  • Prcedure to joining of two tables and pls explore the primary & foriegn key

    Dear All,
Am new to this forum looking forward to have some discussions and guidance reg ABAP.
    <b>My query is</b>
what is the prcedure to joining of two tables and pls explore the primary & foriegn key relationships.
Your kind help is required in this query .
    Thanks n regards
    Carol P

    Hi Carol,
Joining two tables fetch data from tables that has relevent entry based on the keys. like LIKP and LIPS these are delivery tables. if the business requirement is fetching delivery data that are exists in both two tables. here LIKP will conatins a single entry against a condition and LIPS may contains several entry because one delivery may has multiple line items. so, fetch the data joining the two tables on vbeln that is delivrey number. this is used to increase the performance of the program except for all entries.
Foreign key is poiting twowards primary key; it may be 1:1 , 1:many and many:many. if field1 of table a is pointing towards field1 of table b. then based on these condition at the time of entry SAP will check how many entry can be entred in field1 of table a.
