Merged Projects Not Appearing in WebHelp TOC

Following the instructions on the Grainge site, I created a
merged project with the following folder structure:'
BAM\parent --->parent project location
BAM\Child\Project1 --->child location
BAM\Child\Project2 --->child location
BAM\Child\Project3 --->child location
I added the metatag redirecting the first topic in the parent
project to the default topic in Project1.
When I generated the output:
I got a nested set of navigation frames along with the error
msg from IE saying it blocked the content from running ActiveX.
The correct TOC books, one for each project, did display in
the outer navigation frame. However, once I clicked to allow the
content to run, the TOC would disappear. When I went to IE Tools,
Options and selected to allow ActiveX to run from My Computer, the
error message stopped appearing, but the TOC disappeared entirely.
I did get the extra set of nav frames to disappear by
clearing the nav option in Project1 when I generated it.
Thanks for any tips.

Hello. I have been sailing along working on my merged
projects, but then I decided to change the name of one of
them--twice. The first time I changed the name it continued to work
fine. But this morning I changed the name again and now the child
project no longer appears in the merged TOC.
**This is the first merged project in the parent project's
TOC. However, it still doesn't appear even if I move it farther
down in the list.
**The redirect from the parent project's default topic to the
child project's default topic works fine.
**The child project's TOC works fine when I generate it
independently.
**I changed the Title of the project and the name of the
project. I regenerated the parent project to get the new folder
name and generated the child project into that new folder name.
Perhaps I did all of these things in the incorrect order? At first
I didn't change the folder name, but then later I did. And I
deleted the old output folder...
**The new project is being pointed to in the parent project's
cshdat_robohelp.htm file (though interestingly there is no order to
the list of child projects in that location).

  • New TOC Book not appearing in WebHelp output

    Hi
My project is proceeding fairly well, considering I've only
been using RH for about six weeks - thanks, in no small part, to
the advice I've found in this forum. I'm hoping someone can help me
with a niggling problem I'm having.
My project is based on a textbook written by my colleagues.
RH has successfully imported all the header formatting from Word
and the resulting TOC is almost perfect. My problem is that my
header 1s link to sections of the book, so I don't have a header
that just gives the chapter name. If I do create these as header 1s
they give me a clickable entry in the TOC which leads to a page
    with no content.
I'd like to have an entry in the TOC that gives the chapter
name but which isn't clickable, i.e. is only there so users can
orient themselves and see what each section is about.
I thought I could do this by creating a new TOC book in the
TOC, but not linking it to any page. I've done this, saved
everything and generated afresh, but when I view the webhelp
layout, the book I just created doesn't appear in the TOC. Is there
a way I can do this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Colin

    Hi Colin.
You may be able to do just this with a bit of wizardry! Check
    out the RoboWizard's
    tips
'n tricks file. It has help on how to set-up redirect topics.
Create one of these and assign it to the book. The redirect topic
would then just redirect the user to another topic.

  • PS Project not appearing in cProjects Accouting tab

I am able to create the PS Project from cProjects through status management (Flag for transfer) after the required accounting intergation and other configurations.
However, I have a concern when I am linking an existing PS project to a newly created RPM Item and cProjects Project.
    I carried out the following:
    1. Created a PS Project with a WB Structure
    2. Created an RPM Item (with auto creation of cProjects Project)
    3. Under the item, uploaded the PS Project created under step 1, to the item
    4. Saved the upload
    Result:
The PS Project structure is replicated in the cProjects operational project.
    Concerns:
We now want to synchronize the accounting aspects in PS from cProjects Project (like we do when we mark a cProjects project to "Flag for transfer"). However, the newly linked PS project does not appear under the "Accounting" tab in cProjects.
    Please advise.
    Summary:
Having linked an exisiting PS project to a new created item and cProjects project, we want the operation to continue as if the PS project was created by flagging the cProjects project.
    Thanks.

Thanks... this helps me get to a part of the problem.
Now that I have RPM item and a cProjects project linked to a PS project, I can manually link the cProjects tasks stc. to the PS WBS elements as relevant.
In such a case, how will "Falg for Transfer" imopact this project? I mean, whereas "Flag for transfer" in other cases create a new PS project which we can see under the accounting tab, what happens when we set this status after we have manually linked the cProjects project to a PS Project. Also, how does the accounting updates take place in this scenario (from the cProjects front end)?
    Thanks...

  • Fcpx project not appearing in project library

A project that is in the Final Cut Projects folder, both within its own folder and in the FCP Projects folder, is not appearing in the Project Library within FCPX and therefore cannot be opened. This happened suddenly in the middle of an edit that had begun yesterday. The files imported into the appropriate FC Event folder is there and all the other FCP projects I've done which are visible in the FCP Projects folder in Finder are visible within the FCP Project library except this one. Any ideas?

  • Alt text not appearing in WebHelp output

We are using FrameMaker 10 and RoboHelp 9 to output as WebHelp. In the FM files, I have added alternate text to anchored frames containing images. When I update the linked FM files in my RH project, the screen tip is empty for these images, but when I look at the HTML source for the topic, it shows that the alt text is there:
<p class="widegraphic"><img alt="Coach completes form and can either submit now or save it as a draft, edit it, and submit it later. After submit, employee receives task or alert notification, and coach receives task notification. Coach can still edit form at this point. Employee acknolwedges form and completes tasks, and employee task changes to complete. Coach completes task, and task status changes to complete. Lastly, coach receives alert or message notification.  "
                                 id="image2" src="using_bpl_form00003.jpg"
                                 style="margin-bottom: 6pt;" border="0" />&#160;</p>
When I preview the topic in RH and hover my mouse over the image, the alt text appears in the preview window as expected, both in the default window and when I choose to preview in Firefox and IE. However, when I generate the WebHelp and hover my mouse over the images, nothing shows up at all, and the alt text is replaced by the file name:
    <p class="widegraphic"></p>
    <div align="left"><img alt="using_bpl_form00003.jpg" style="margin-bottom : 6pt; " id="image2" src="using_bpl_form00003.jpg" />
    </div>
If, however, I manually copy and paste the alt text into the screen tip field of the image in the RH topic, the alt text does appear in the WebHelp output:
<p class="widegraphic"><img alt="Coach completes form and can either submit now or save it as a draft, edit it, and submit it later. After submit, employee receives task or alert notification, and coach receives task notification. Coach can still edit form at this point. Employee acknolwedges form and completes tasks, and employee task changes to complete. Coach completes task, and task status changes to complete. Lastly, coach receives alert or message notification.  "
      id="image2" src="using_bpl_form00003.jpg"
title="Coach completes form and can either submit now or save it as a draft, edit it, and submit it later. After submit, employee receives task or alert notification, and coach receives task notification. Coach can still edit form at this point. Employee acknolwedges form and completes tasks, and employee task changes to complete. Coach completes task, and task status changes to complete. Lastly, coach receives alert or message notification."
      style="margin-bottom: 6pt;" border="0" />&#160;</p>
This seems like a pretty major bug to me. I know there have been scripts developed to delete the alt text so that graphic filename won't show up as the alt text, but is there anything that will take the existing alt text and populate the screen tip/title property with it, which seems to be the key to getting this to work in the output? There's no way I can manually copy and paste all the alt text into the images in RH, especially because I'll just end up having to redo it every time I update the linked FM files.
    Thanks,
    Jackie

    Hi Jackie,
Offhand, your ALT string seems long. A quick search yielded info at http://www.htmlcodetutorial.com/images/images_famsupp_85.html
If a lengthy description is needed to describe the image, use the LONGDESC attribute to point to the URL of another page which has the lengthy description. Because LONGDESC is not yet sufficiently supported, also follow the image with a "D-link". A D-link is a standard anchor link with contents consisting of the capital letter "D", like this:
Do you experience the same behavior with short alt strings as well?

  • Merged files not opening correctly from TOC

    Hi,
We are having issues with one of our merged .chms. It is a
small .chm with one topic and 8 merged TOCs. When this .chm file is
compiled, the TOC works fine and all the TOC topics open and the
topics display correctly in the right-hand frame.
However, when we merge this .chm with our main help, we get
the following error message when we click on a TOC entry:
"The window name "Main" passed to HH_GET_WIN_TYPE has not
    been specified"
We click OK to continue and the topic opens but in a new
window as its own .chm, not in the right-hand frame like it should.
And most of the time the new window does not have the correct
title, it is picking up the title of TOC below or above it, or the
    one that was opened previously.
Hope this is making sense, it is hard to explain without
    images...
I have spent hours trying to figure this one out and was
originally getting the same error in the stand alone .chm, but I
think (fingers crossed) that I have fixed this. One of the merged
TOC projects was corrupting everyhting else, but we have recreated
that project from scratch, and now it all works fine.
It is just when the .chm is merged with the main help.
Is it because we have a merged TOC within a merged TOC?
    Thanks

    Hi Em0606,
What version of RoboHelp are you using? There was a problem
in RH X5.0.0 that was fixed by the X5.0.1 update. See the following
link (scroll down to RoboHelp Office Updates):
    http://www.adobe.com/support/robohelp/downloads.html
If that's got nothing to do with it, I shall bow out and let
one of the experts offer a solution.

  • TOC links are not appearing in RoboHelp 9

    Hi team,
I am facing a big trouble.
I am creating an online help using RoboHelp 9. The help has 133 topics. My problem is that after generating the help, few topics are not appearing in TOC. A blank page appears. If i relink the topic, it comes fine but at the same time some other links starts not appearing in the TOC. Please help.
    Regards,
    Garima

    Hi there
In addition to what Colum is asking, I'm going to ask/suggest this. If indeed the Topic Pane simply appears blank, try right-clicking the pane and see if you can choose "View Source". If a window or application appears that lists the HTML code, it means the topic indeed loaded but is probably having issues presenting the content. And if that's the case it's an entirely different can of worms from a troubleshooting perspective.
    Cheers... Rick

When I publish my master project in IE(8 or 9) using Robohelp 10, the child projects do not appear in the TOC. However, if I open the published master project in Mozilla Firefox, the child projects do appear. My office only supports IE. Is there a solution for this?

  • RH8 Merged project child project displaying in a separate window

    Hi Everyone,
Today I created a brand new merged project in RH8 using webhelp format. Both the parent and child projects were created from scratch.
When I displayed the finished merged project and clicked on the child project in the help TOC the child project displayed in a separate window!!
    Please can someone advise ...
How do I configure this so the child project displays in the same window as the parent?

    Peter,
    Many thanks for your suggestions.
I tested the sample project again, it was actually from one of our customers whose browser security settings are fixed. The problem was caused by IE7 internet browser security settings. Once blocked content was permitted everthing displayed in the same window.
This is a relief as all other settings were what I normally used and these always worked.

  • Merged child project's TOC not appearing in parent project's TOC

    System Information
    Windows XP Professional, SP2
    Windows Explorer 6.0
    RoboHelp X5.0.2
    Generating RoboHelp HTML Help (.chm)
    Issue
I had the following Help projects:
    1. CombinedProductHelp.chm (parent
    project)
    2. ProductHelp.chm (child 1 project)
    3. ProductBestPracticesHelp.chm (child 2 project)
The parent project is a very small Help project that is used
as a place in which to merge the two child projects. I was able to
add the two child projects to the parent project’s TOC in the
RoboHelp HTML TOC editor, seemingly without any problem. The
problem arose when I generated the .chm output for the merged
projects; upon opening the parent project’s .chm file, I
discovered that the Child 1 project’s TOC wasn’t
appearing in the TOC. The Child 2 project’s TOC appeared just
fine. I was able to retrieve topics from the Child 1 project using
the Search function and index – I just couldn’t use the
    TOC.
After a bit of trial and error, I discovered that the problem
was the result of the file names I had chosen for the Parent
project (CombinedProductHelp.chm) and the Child 1 project
(ProductHelp.chm). For some unknown reason, if the ENTIRE file name
that’s used for a child project is identical to a PART of
file name that’s used for a parent project, the child
project’s TOC will not appear in the merged TOC. I've used
underscores to "right-justify" the problematic file name to more
    clearly illustrate this:
    CombinedProductHelp.chm
    ________ProductHelp.chm
    Resolution
You can resolve the issue by renaming either file. Any ONE of
the following examples will resolve the issue:
    * Insert a letter (other than
    “d”) in front of “ProductHelp.chm” (e.g.,
    SProductHelp.chm)
    * Insert a letter between “p” and “.”
    of “ProductHelp.chm” (e.g., ProductHelpS.chm)
    * Insert a letter in the “ProductHelp” portion of
    “CombinedProductHelp.chm” (e.g.,
    CombinedProducXtHelp.chm)
In the example above, renaming the
    “CombinedProductHelp.chm” to
“CombinedHelp.chm” resolved the issue; both child
project TOCs now appear in the parent .chm TOC.

    Tracey,
Safari might need some of the patches that make WebHelp
behave better (to some extent, anyway) in Netscape, Firefox and
    Opera for Windows.
Let's try to pinpoint the problem.
WebHelp generally loads in this order:
    --Frame outline
--Main toolbar plain background, then buttons, then the image
    background, if any.
    --The welcome topic
--The minibar at left-- empty frame, then background and
icons, if any (browse, synch TOC and hide X)
    --Table of contents background
    --TOC list.
How far does the Mac browser get when you first launch
    WebHelp?
If the main topic loads, and it has links to other topics. do
    they work?
Can you get the Index and search to work?
Can you hide the left pane and click Contents to show it?
    Still empty?

  • Glossary does not appear in merged project

    Hi,
I am using RHX5 to produce help in HTML chm format. I have 14
separate projects which are merged into a master project, due to a
bug in RH in which the table of contents does not display correctly
I use HTML Help Workshop to compile the master project.
One of the 14 projects has glossary entries and so far I have
been unable to make the glossary entries appear in the master
project when it is compiled in HTML Help Workshop.
    I have registered the hhactivex.dll.
I checked the glossary checkbox in the windows setup in both
the individual project and the master and I added a glossary entry
    to the master project.
When I compile the project using RH then all the glossary
entries appear but the table of contents is messed up.
When I compile the project using HTML Help Workshop then only
the single glossary entry from the master project appears.
Anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?
    TIA
    Morven

Hi Morven. When you say your TOC is messed up are you
referring to the problem where the merged projects appear as a book
    within a book? If so,
    click
here for a method to get around it and use RH to compile your
output. If this is not the problem to which you refer, I'll crawl

  • Merged Project for RoboHelp 10 - TOC does not display

    I created a merged project.
    I created a master/parent project.
I added the children rreferences in the parent TOC using the new merged button.
    I published the parent project.
I published all the children (in the parent merged project folder).
I generated the parent project again for webhelp, then click view results.
The parent project displays with the TOC  (children),  BUT as soon as I click Allow Blocked content, the TOC disappears (first topic is blank).
I have created all projects files locally. The children (when viewed independency) work fine.
I have deleted and started over 3 times with the same issue. I contacted Adobe Support, but they could not help.
Any idea o what might be the issue or how to resolve this problem.
    Thanks!
    Kim

First of all try moving the project so that the path is shorter. Create a folder like C:\RhMerge.
Second, I notice your path has spaces showing in the browser. Browser addresses substitute %20 so I am not sure how you have managed that. However the demo does not have spaces unless you have buried it somewhere that does.
Also please try Firefox as well.
Post back if still not resolved or to tell us what fixed it.

  • Not new; merged projects with separate TOC and indices

As it turns out, I have three projects that will need to be
    created:
    Folder (1) for Admin users:
    Administration
    User Management
    Users (General Contents)
    Folder (2) for Approver/PM users:
    User Management
    Users (General Contents)
    Folder (3) for Regular users:
    Users (General Contents)
I'm unsure whether, in RH6, I will be able to generate
separate TOC and indices. Can someone tell me whether there's a
best approach in order to enable this functionality?
    Regards,
    Sharon

OK. Of course, nothing could be that easy, now can it? lol. I
have managed to create the structure as Peter has defined it, and
for the most part, things are looking good. I do, of course, still
have a few questions I'd like to ask before I proceed:
    1. When Peter suggests I put the [Parent (No Content)] into
each of the three folders for the administrators to use on the
server, what exactly does the Parent content entail?
    2. I'd like to understand better the difference between the
default topic and the start page, and how it works structurally. I
started by generating each of the child folders with the start page
(example: Intro.htm), but realized that using index.htm was
important not only for the parent, but for each of the child
projects that I set up. I just don't understand WHY it works that
    way.
    3. I set up Books in the TOC and used the Merged Help under
each book which, of course, when generated, display books within
books. Can I just move the projects and delete the Books
altogether? This may be obvious, but I want to make sure I'm not
undoing something I'm unaware of undoing (if that makes any sense
    at all).
    4. The server will be a Linux box; I have checked off the Use
Lowercase checkbox when generating all. Is there anything else I
should be doing to keep problems to a minimum?
    5. Last but not least (if you've made it this far), I'd like
to know if it is any easier for the administrator, or myself, in
the long run, to be using RoboHelp 8. Because this looks like it
will be an ongoing project for at least five years, I want to make
sure I am working in the smartest way I can.
Thank you, to those who respond. I know I am asking for a lot
of information, because this is my first merged project. Any
assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sharon

  • WebHelp Merge TOCs or Merge Projects?

I have created a core set of help files for a GUI product.
There are a number of kits that we sell separately that work with
this GUI. I've been asked to create help files for each of these
separate kits. I need to create a structure that will allow me to
submit the GUI help files and a table of contents (place holder)
for each kit. As each kit is released and installed, I want the
associated kit help files to merge into the existing installed GUI
at the customer's site. Right now, I've created a placeholder for
each kit that just has an intro page. When I create new help for a
kit with a new Intro page, the GUI toc doesn't update to reflect
the new help files. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

  • Child topics not appearing when clicked in parent project

    Hello,
I have generated a Webhelp parent project containing two child projects in RoboHelp 9. The tables of contents appear for all projects correctly, but when I click some of the topics, they will not display, rather I get that message that my webpage cannot be found. Most of the topics work fine when clicked.
If it helps, it seems that the topics that won't display are ones that are new or have recent edits.
I've tried regenerating my projects and re-creating the TOCs, but I am not sure what else I can try. When I generate the child projects on their own, all topics work fine, it is only when merged as a child project in the main project that the topics won't show.
    Thanks,
    Maddy

It looks like I was wrong, it isn't just new topics, it is a mix of old and new topics that aren't appearing.
When I look into the folders of the generated merged topics, it looks like these topic files are not generating.
    For example:
I generate parent project GP and its topics work fine.
I generate parent project LR and its topics work fine.
I generate project GP as a child project merged in parent project LR, several of child project GP's topic files have not generated.
I tried to move the missing files from the main GP generated folders into LR's child version of GP where they should appear, but I get this message: "Cannot move file abcd: The filename, directory name, or volume syntax is incorrect".
The topics that did generate properly, both new and old, do appear to open to the correct pages when clicked in the TOC.
