Messaging Server authenticate against directory server

Just wonder how to make messaging server authenticate against directory server? Basically I created users on the directroy server, and would like to let these users to access messaging server?
Thanks for advice!

I'm sorry, your question doesn't really make any sense.
Messaging Server always authenticates to users in a Directory.
How did you "create users"? That may be the problem. If you don't create the users with the provisioning tools provided with Messaging, then the users don't have the correct object classes and attributes to function as Messaging users.

  • How to configure qpopper to authenticate against LDAP server

    Hi,
This is re-post of my question:
I have directory server 6.0 set up on Solaris 9 system. Also, I have set up Solaris 9 system native LDAP client. The qpopper daemon is running on that client. I have re-compiled the qpopper to use PAM authentication, then 'kill -HUP' inetd. But when I try to connect to qpopper with PAM authentication, I got an error:
-ERR [AUTH] PAM authentication failed for user "nsr": No account present for user (13)
I do have user's account and I am able to retrieve the user's account information by 'ldaplist -l passwd nsr'. I guess it is related pam configuration problem, but I don't know how to configure pam for qpopper. The information provided by qpopper manual is listed below:
    #%PAM-1.0
    auth required /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so shadow
    account required /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so
    password required /lib/security/pam_cracklib.so
    password required /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so nullok
    use_authtok md5 shadow
    session required /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so
Obviously, the example configuration is for Linux. So how I can configure Solaris pam.conf to have qpopper authenticate through pam?
My current pam.conf is listed here also:

iAS 6.0 sp4 officially does only support iPlanet Directory Server 5.0 sp1 and 4.13.
    For more details visit: http://docs.iplanet.com/docs/manuals/ias/60/sp4/ig/prep.htm#42084
I guess, you can specify the directory server during the time of installation.

  • Is Windows 2003 member servers still able to authenticate against Windows Server 2012 R2 AD after mirgation?

    Hi,
We are planning to migrate Windows Server 2008 R2 AD to Windows Server 2012 R2 AD. But we have some Windows 2003 member servers (Running RADIUS for VPN user to authenticate their AD accounts). Does anyone know that existing Windows 2003 member

  • An error occurred while configuring server as a directory server.  Please check your network configuration and try again.

    Hi there,
My Mac OS X Server 8.2 got buggered after I did the following steps:
Wiped Profile manager using "/Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/share/devicemgr/backend/wipeD B.sh"
Clicking the Off button in the Profile Manager section of the Server.app
Clicking the On button of the same
Clicking on asks if I want to create a new directory master, but I know that one already exists.  Trying to continue confirms this.  So, I go and destroy it to start again, but afterward, I get the following error when trying to create the directory master:
I've done this enough times while watching the system log to see the actual error thrown, which is:
Nov 12 22:01:24 srv.domain.com Server[279]: An error occurred while configuring srv as a directory server:
        Error Domain=XSActionErrorDomain Code=-1 "A child action failed" UserInfo=0x7fee9516c0f0 {XSActionErrorActionsKey=(
            "Creating Open Directory master"
        ), NSLocalizedDescription=A child action failed}
I have Googled the above and have discovered only a few entries here in these Apple communities, but have found no joy.
    Here's a similar threads:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19237429#19237429
Interestingly/confusingly, this server has been working just fine as a domain master using different domain names (on separate occasions/setups).  It was only after having clicked the OFF button in Profile Manager (after a wipe) that things stopped working.
I could rebuild this server, as I have a backup image of it that I can restore, but I'd rather find out what's broken and fix it so as to hopefully be able to fix it if/when this ever happens to me again, learning something in the process.
That said, I perform the following steps prior to running the Open Directory setup on a the server to try and clean it up as best possible.
    Clean up steps:
Delete the DNS zone (and all entries).
    Turn off all server services
    Delete all file server sharepoints
Change the host name at Hardware => SRV => Network tab.  This runs the Change Host Name program.
    Close Server.app
Throw Server.app in the trash / Empty trash (I've also just trashed and put back with same result)
    Delete the /Library/Server directory
Clear and recreate System keychain using "systemkeychain -vfcC" to clear out all the certs related to old host name.
Delete all the entries in the Login keychain
    Reboot (probably don't have to)
    Re-download and install Server.app
Run Server.app, which actually retains some settings from the last setup, though I don't know where to clean those.
After Server setup, confirm that the host name from step 4 is what I want.
Running "changeip -checkhostname" shows "Success".  I'm using an Internet domain name so pinging the "internal" zone (srv.domain.com) resolves with the correct internal IP, and pinging the "external" zone resolves to the correct external address on the Internet.
It would seem like I'm all good to go, but when I try to turn on Open Directory and go through the setup prompts, I get the same "Confirm Settings" error as above.
The *only* way that I've come close to "fixing" this is to cancel out of the Profile Manager.  Then, go destroy the open directory that already exists.  Then create the domain via the Profile Manager enabling process.  At present, this only seems work to for a "private" domain.  Neither of the two Internet domain names that I've used successfully in the past work with this (or any) method.
Any advice or clues you can throw my way would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kim

  • Store Print & File Server on iPlanet Directory Server?

I've a NT 4.0 server which I'm using as both a Print & File Server. Would I be able to use iPlanet Directory Server to do the same thing?
If I can, please explain how? or direct me to where I can know how?
If it can't be done, is there any other way(s) I can do it?
    Thanks!

I don't understand. iDS is not a file and print server, it is a user data and user authentication server. Do you want to use iDS for your user authentication for file and print services instead of NT 4 domains? I don't think this is possible. What is possible is using iDS as your primary data store, and using iPlanet Meta Directory to sync changes from iDS to the NT 4 domain.

  • How to promote my OSX10.6.8 replica server to Open Directory server

My Open Directory Server crash and i would like to promote my replica Server to Open Directory.  can you tell me how to do this.

    Hello Dave,
Check out the steps quoted below to promote your replica to the Open Directory master.
    Provide Open Directory service
    https://help.apple.com/advancedserveradmin/mac/3.1/#apdD1F7D8CA-CF07-40CE-B2D4-8 E3ACF4BCA40
Promote a replica to Open Directory master
If an Open Directory master fails and you can’t recover it from a backup, you can promote a replica to be a master. The new master (promoted replica) uses the directory and authentication databases of the replica.
Select Open Directory in the sidebar.
    Click Servers.
Select a replica to promote, then choose Promote Replica to Master from the Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear).
Enter the directory administrator name and password.
If you archived Open Directory data with certificate authority keys, you can restore them by entering the Open Directory archive location or clicking choose to locate the archive.
    Click Next.
Enter the user name and password for the replica that’s being promoted, then click Connect.

    -Norm G.

  • Getting HTTP 500 Error When Trying To Authenticate Against LDAP Server (Active Directory)

    Hello,
I am currently facing an issue when I try and use LDAP authentication in my Apex application as I am getting a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error message. For my authentication scheme I have used the pre-configured option of how to connect to an LDAP server and in my development environment this seems to be working fine but now I have deployed my application to our staging environment and I am getting the error. If I switch to the Application Express Authentication scheme then I don't get the error.
I've had a look at the log file on the server and I see I am getting this error:

So it seems that every time I try and use LDAP I hit this error. Also after awhile I have to re-start the Apex Listener for that domain. I have came across this thread: LDAP Authentication Question but I am not sure if the user got the problem solved or not.
    Our infrastructure is as follows:
Database: Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit
    Apex Listener: 2.0.3.221.10.13
GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 3.1.2.2 (build 5)
If anybody has any idea what is causing this that would be great.
    Cheers,
    Paul.

I cant see anything glaring that is causing this. I have also increased the Minimum Connections to 30 and Maximum Connections to 100 with the administration part of Configuring ORDS via SQL Developer and it still has no desired effect.
The application works fine in our Development and Testing Environment but since I have ported it over to our production instance I am unable to log into it using my Active Directory credentials.
    Cheers,
    Paul.

  • Directory Server Replica and Messaging Server 6

I install Directory Server 5.2 as Master Replica in one machine (V120) and on the other machine (V240) I install the following:
    1. SunONE Directory Server 5.2 (Consumer
    Replica) or slave replica.
    2. SunONE Identity Server
    3. SunONE Messaging Server 6
I have successfully install and configured the 3 Servers, when they are running on just one machine (one box). But when I try to run them in two separate machines as described above, the messaging server acts strangely and it's configuration fails, when i try to configure it on the directory server replica.
In simpler words, I want to know if someone has installed Messaging Server in a Directory Server Replication scenario, where there are two machines involve. Because all works well when we install everything on one machine (one box) but I am having hard time configuring the messaging server in this split setup scenario.
So, if someone has idea about how to run the Messaging Server 6 ( ./configure ) file successfully on a Directory Server 5.2 Replica, please suggest me in detail.
    Thanking you,
    Farhan Ahmed.
    Vision Valley, Dubai.

Messaging Server uses LDAP in two ways. The obvious one is that user/group/domain information is stored there.
The non-obvious way is that some configuration information is stored in LDAP, in the "o=NetscapeRoot" tree. This tree is NOT ususally replicated, so if you perform the installation against one LDAP server, and then attempt to move the configuration to point to another one, and don't make a separate replication agreement for the configuration, your server won't work correctly.
To configure Messaging against a replica, you also need to understand how the replication and "referral" works. Without studying your scenario, I cannot tell what has failed, but indeed, there are users that have configured Messaging 6.0 against a replica LDAP system.
You may want to open a tech support ticket, and get personal help for your issue.

  • Active Directory 2003 and Sun One Directory Server 5.2

I just installed Sun One Directory Server 5.2 on a Linux machine. I want to configure LDAP on that machine so that it can be authenticated on Active Directory 2003. How do I go about doing this?

Active Directory server is a "directory server" (and kerberos server.) If your linux client authenticates against Active Directory it doesn't have to involve the Sun Directory Server at all. You have several general approaches you could investigate:
    1. Linux client gets accounts and and authentication via LDAP from Active Directory
If you use AD to handle unix LDAP authentication (opt 1) you may need to extend schema in AD to add the unix password field. I haven't tried it yet, but hope to.
    2. Linux client gets accounts from AD LDAP and authorization from AD Kerberos.
There should be docs on support.microsoft.com on enabling kerberos support for non-Win clients.
    3. Linux client (with samba client installed, with winbind or pam_smb to support unix level services) gets accounts and authentication as a "Windows" client from Active directory "Windows server"
Check the samba.org docn or forums- I think this is a pretty common solution.
    4. Linux client gets account information from Sun Directory server but uses kerberos (against active directory) for authentication.
There should be docs on support.microsoft.com on enabling kerberos support for non-Win clients.
5 Linux client gets account and authorization from Sun Directory server, which the sun Directory server configured to use Active Directory as a Kerberos server.
    Probably incredibly complex.

  • How to install directory server/client on Solaris 9 for dummys

    Hi,
after reading hunderts of pages, after asking questions in forums without getting the right answers, i was able to install the directory server in our company.
Here is the summary i made for myself. Perhaps it helps others to avoid the same problems.
Set up a Directory Server (sun one ds 5.1)
    Present situation:
    -Nisplus is installed
-Solaris OS 9 sparc 64bit is installed
-DS5 Software is normally already installed in Solaris 9. Check off with 'pkginfo | grep IPLT*'
-Otherwise install from Solaris OS 9 Disc1 with 'pkgadd -d IPLTxxxx .'
    -Software setup with '/usr/sbin/directoryserver setup'
         Install admin- and directory server.
For Directory Server use port 389 (necessary for later use of SSL)
For Admin Server use any empty port > 1024
Run directoryserver as root (necessary for using port 389 and for -starting servers from console)
Use default Directory Manager DN cn=Directory manager
Use your domain as DIT (default information tree) example: dc=example, dc=com
As second DIT, setup installs o=NetscapeRoot. Don't change this DIT at all!!!!!
The server stores all the default schemas there which are absolutely important for the directoy
server. Don't change anything there !
    -Configure software with 'idsconfig'
Preferred - and default server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (ip_adds of your directory server)
         Use default search scope one
         Use credential's Proxy
Use authentication Simple (you may change this later if needed)
All the rest should remain on default settings
You will be asked for a proxy passwort
-Start the directoryserver console with '/usr/sbin/directoryserver startconsole'
-If it's not yet running, start the directory server from console or with command 'directoryserver -s instance_name start'
-If it's not yet running, start the admin server from console or with command 'directoyserver start-admin'
-On directoryserver's gui at configuraton/password set password encryption to 'unix crypt algorithm (CRYPT)'
    Import Data
    -Get Data from Nisplus with
         'niscat passwd.org_dir passwd.ldap'
         'niscat hosts.org_dir hosts.ldap'
         'niscat groups.org_dir groups.ldap'
         etc
-adjust the files. (try it out with one entry of a file only. You may delete this entry with the gui very easy if it's not successfull.
    -hosts.ldap must look like
    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx machine1
    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx machine2
    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx machine3
First value is the ip-address, second one is the hostname.
If you have more than one hostname per machine, use a second line (don't write 2 names behind the ip-address like you did in nisplus!!!)
Change content of files into ldif format
    -perl migrate_hosts.pl hosts.ldap hosts.ldif
    -perl migrate passwd.pl passwd.ldap passwd.ldif
-You may download the above perl-Files from http://www.padl.com
Change the converted passwd.ldif File as follows:
    -before change:
    dn: uid=mario,ou=People,dc=krinfo,dc=ch
    uid: mario
    cn: mario
    objectClass: account
    objectClass: posixAccount
    objectClass: top
    userPassword: {crypt}6O9m3uK./T/rM
    loginShell: /bin/bash
    uidNumber: 1020
    gidNumber: 14
    homeDirectory: /home/mario
    -after change:
    dn: uid=mario,ou=People,dc=krinfo,dc=ch
    uid: mario
    cn: mario
    objectClass: account
    objectClass: posixAccount
objectClass: shadowAccount <--- this line must be inserted
    objectClass: top
    userPassword: {crypt}6O9m3uK./T/rM
    loginShell: /bin/bash
    uidNumber: 1020
    gidNumber: 14
    homeDirectory: /home/mario
Insert the line for every entry in the passwd.ldif file
You may now import all these xxxx.ldif files into the directory server with
    -ldapadd -h name_of_directoryserver -D "cn=Directory Manager" -w password -f XXXXX.ldif
You may use this commands later to import further data.
    -Initialise a client
    'ldapclient -a proxyDN=cn=proxyagent,ou=profile,dc=example,dc=com init xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx'
The xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx at the end is the ip address of the directory server
-This will make a client with data taken from the default profile from the directory server. This profile has been produced with the earlier command idsconfig and can be changed if needed.
-The System will ask you for the proxy password (given the first time in idsconfig dialog)
-You may now look at the produces files
in '/var/ldap/ldap_client_file' for the client settings
in '/var/ldap/ldap_client_cred' for the proxy settings
'ldapclient list' shows the settings of the client
With 'ldaplist -h' you may see all the existing entries with their objects.
    Activate the client
-If it's not yet running, start '/usr/lib/ldap/ldap_cachemgr'
-All nisplus daemons/programs have been stopped by ldapclient command. If not, stop them manually.
-/etc/nsswitch.conf should have been copied from /etc/nsswitch.ldap from ldapclient too.
    -If not, do it manually.
    example
    passwd: files ldap
    group: files ldap
    hosts ldap dns files
    etc
I recommend to change the file '/etc/nsswitch.ldap' because the system oftens copies nsswitch.ldap to nsswitch.conf and if nsswitch.ldap is adapted, you must now change it again and again.
you may now check whether ldap is working fine with the following requests:
    getent passwd username
    getent hosts hostname
    getent groups
    getent network
These commands should give you the requested answer.
    Be sure to clean:
/etc/hosts      inside is only your workstation and the directory server
/etc/passwd     only default and local entries
/etc/groups only default and local entries
    etc
try a telnet to your own machine to check, whether password and automount of your home_dirctory works fine.
I failed here. All was working fine, but the password exchange did not because of credential/authentication problems.
    Best regards and good luck
    Mario

Directory Server 5.1 does not support Kerberos authentication.
Beside this there are some extensions in MS kerberos authentication that makes it almost impossible to have a MS client authenticate with something else than AD.

    Ludovic.

  • Installation/Config Problem with Sun Directory Server Control Center (6.0)

    Hi All,
I have recently attempted an installation of Sun Directory Server EE 6.0 on a x86 Solaris 10 machine.
I have selected to install Core Directory Server and Sun Directory Server Control Center with my installation.
After installation, if I check the status of the SUNDSCC, I receive the following message:
    bash-3.00# ./dsccsetup status
    DSCC Application is not installed

    DSCC Registry has been created
Path of DSCC registry is /var/opt/SUNWdsee/dscc6/dcc/ads
Port of DSCC registry is 3998
I have also tried to re-start the Sun Java Web Console using the /usr/sbin/smcwebserver start command but that does not do anything.
If i try to initialize the SUNDSCC usin the ./dsccsetup initialize command, the registry got created, but it still displays as "application not installed".
I do not understand. I have already installed this application using the JES installer.
    please help!

I had a similar issue. Here is how I fixed it.
Run dsccsetup status with the -v option. it will show you where it is trying to find the DSCC Application. Then do a find on your system to see where it is actually installed. Then simply copy it over to where dsccsetup is looking for it. Then do dsccsetup initialize. Below is what it looked like on my system when I did it:
    # ./dsccsetup status -v

  • Does Directory Server 5.1 Work on XP

Dumb question, but I am having trouble installing Directory Server 5.1 on a windows XP box.
I am getting the following errors:
1.Setup is Unable to store information in the LDAP Directory.
2.Unable to Create Administration Server Configuration.
    3. Could not authenticate LDAP connection, "Unknown Error".
4.Setups post-install mode failed for the subcomponent admin belong to the component admin. Do you wish to continue.
In short a lot of errors. It worked fine on one of my windows 2000 boxes.
Please help. I am sorry to sound a bit dumb, but I am a programmer LDAP enabling an application, not a sytem or directory administrator.
    TIA
    Jeremy Hartley

As far as I know XP is a workstation OS not a server OS.
Directory SERVER is only supported on NT 4 and Windows 2000 (besides all kind of Unixes of course).

    Ludovic.

  • Upgrading  iplanet 4.1 directory server to 5.0

    Dear all
    Problem goes like this:
We have netscape messaging server 4.1 ,directory server 4.1 running on NT box
we want to upgrade our mail server to 5.1 and directory server to 5.0 .
how can i get a pack of mail server 5.1 with directory server 5.0.
we are thinking to shift the system to Solaris also.
i tried first loading directory server 5.1 on solaris and then loading messaging server on the same system but using the existing directory server option . then migrating the users from old directory server to 5.1 .
when we are loading the 5.1 on solaris it's straight forward and it's getting loaded but when installing messaging server on the same system we got a problem saying that serious problem occured while installing admin server ....
    and coming out.

    Hi Phil,
To ensure its not permissions I'd grant the EUL Owner
the "Select Any Table" database priv and then try
    again.
If it still fails I would then perform a database
trace of the session to get more details.
Finally, if that fails I would create a new 3.1 EUL
and export/import all of your business areas into
that EUL and perform the upgrade to 4.
    Thanks,
    JeffHi Jeff,
    I'll try your suggestions.
I also did a Business Area refresh which fixed a few definitions that no longer existed but when I ran the upgrade again I got the same error.
    Thanks.
    Phil.
