Meta tag error in site created by dreamweaver

I recently checked my site www.bestical.com at The W3C Markup Validation Service and there are error in it
but  added all the meta tags by standard Dreamweaver tools
so which one is wring?

Short answer:  You're using an HTML5 doc type which has a different set of specs for valid meta tags and other HTML syntax.
Introduction to HTML
Where you have this:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="fa">
Language must be expressed in the <html> tag like this:
<!doctype html>
<html lang="fa">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
For more on HTML5 specifications, see the W3Schools site above.

  • Cannot create title tag, meta tags for iWeb site, per Google requirements.

    I created simple website in iWeb to meet art show deadline
    www.barbaraturnertigrett.com
    but when I tried to submit to search engines (via GoDaddy "Traffic Blazer" product), several issues or errors noted...no title tag, meta tags, keywords, too little text, etc. Was told by Apple, there is no fix at this time...no way to access to actual HTML code, to add title tag or meta tags, etc...since iWeb is merely a consumer, not professional enterprise, product. Researching further, I even tried to submit to Google directly, not via GoDaddy "Traffic Blazer", but could not "verify" my url site (because meta tag missing and/or could not upload entire html file, as required. I'd produced client websites in past on Adobe GoLive and was learning Dreamweaver, when someone alerted me to simplicity of iWeb. It is clean and simple, but wish I'd anticipated these other issues. Is there a solution to this with iWeb or should I finish learning Dreamweaver and start over? Thanks for any advice you can share.

    Both these last postings were helpful. THANKS. I could not open home.html file with "text edit", but when using Taco HTML Edit, it would open...so I dusted off (novice) HTML skills and entered the appropriate title tag and meta tag, per Google's requirements. Then, went to my GoDaddy hosting control center and (I think) I uploaded new file with new tags. Seems to be major lag time with any changes, so not sure my site is now successfully "verified", on Google. Hope I did not mess anything up, in the process. There seems to be various lag times before any changes take effect (right??).
    So now...I'm very glad to find out about iMap and will buy it and watch the tutorial video, as instructed...since I am unsure if last 'fix'...fixed the problem, etc...and always eager to learn more. This is my first Apple discussion post, and certainly impressed/grateful for expert help. THX again.

  • Meta Tag Placement in pages created from a template

    I am updating a site and want to make sure that I place my meta tags correctly in individual pages created from a template. Can you tell me if my placement is correct?
    Below is code I added to my template:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

    <!-- #BeginEditable "metatags" --> <!-- #EndEditable -->
    <style type="text/css">

    Here is what a page I created looks like after adding the meta tags:

    As usually, Begin and end editable sections are grayed out, and the meta tag names are blue according to my scheme so I think I am doing it correctly, however, I want to be sure before submitting it to google incorrectly. Can you tell me if I am correct?
    Thank you

    for clarification, are you saying that I could have put them on the line after:
    <title>Long Island, NY, 11550 Music Dance  Art &amp; Drama Lessons</title>
    Yep.
    Second, adding these meta tags actually did help the ranking of this company. They were not listed before I did this on their old site. They were on page 1 of their category hours after I did this for them.
    I think it's just coincidence.  However, for sure it wasn't the keywords that did that, since those are just ignored (the meta keywords contents, not the meta description contents).
    what are the search engines looking for? I want to make sure to design with those things in mind.
    They are looking for semantic content on the page.  That means the contents of tags like <title>, <h1>, <h2>, <h3>.  That also means (derived) keywords contained in content 'above the fold', and in filenames, in links, in title and alt attributes.  In other words, search engines want to rank your pages based on *real* meaning of the contents of the page, not on some arbitrary listing of keywords that you place in a meta keyword tag.
    Search engines also pay lots of attention to INCOMING links from other well ranked sites....

  • PHP MySQL sites created by dreamweaver mx 2004 crash on safari

    Hello,
    The title says it all, but i will elaborate.
    I develop PHP, MySQl driven database websites, I use
    Dreamweaver MX 2004 and I work on a macintosh, using both safari
    version 2 and 3.
    i have noticed that whenever I post a database item (add,
    edit to table) my safari hangs and I get a page cannot be displayed
    error after 1 minute or so, even though the db function went
    through.
    Now, this only happens with safari and it only happens with
    pages I build with dreamweaver, any hand coded websites I build do
    not do this.
    i have posted this on the apple website with no response, I
    am hoping someone here can help me.

  • Site created in Dreamweaver is stuck on Flash upgrade

    RE: www.garyhendrycustomhomes.com
    This site was created in Dreamweaver CC. Every functioning aspect of this site works perfectly and acts normal when previewed offline in a browser.
    However, when I complete an upload of the entire site and bring the url up in my browser, I get a white page with this message:
    Please upgrade your Flash Player.
    Already have Flash Player? Click here if you have Flash Player 6 installed.
    I am on a Mac running OS 10.9.1.
    Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks

    I'm not seeing it.  Only your Gallery page appears to be using Flash.  Do you have the latest Flash player installed on your system?
    FYI, Flash is pretty much dead these days since the world's most popular mobile & tablet devices can't support it.  To reach a wider audience, you should replace your Flash slideshows with jQuery.  Cycle2 is a very nice plugin.  http://jquery.malsup.com/cycle2/

  • How to upload site created with Dreamweaver via FTP to the iWEB server?

    Hi everyone,
    I recently created a site on Dreamweaver and want to upload the site, via FTP to the iWEB server. My questions are the following:
    1. What is the FTP host address?
    2. How do I connect to my website via FTP?
    Any help on the following questions will be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hello Lauretta and welcome to the forum.
    You do not connect to iDisk via FTP. iDisk uses WebDAV. Also you do not need to manually upload the published files to iDisk as recommended buy others in this thread. Once the site and server is set up in DW you can publish and upload directly through DW.app Check out this post for more info.

  • Using Contribute CS5 to edit site created w/Dreamweaver - PayPal button size issues

    I'm using Adobe Contribute CS5 to edit my web site that was built with Dreamweaver on a Mac.  I have a PC with Windows XP, 1G of ram, a 40G hard drive (used only for programs and operating system) a 1 terabyte external hard drive for all files, etc.  I use MSN Explorer for my browser.
    I have done extensive editing and everything works fine except for when I edit or add PayPal buttons.  The site was built using "tables" for most everything as well as all of my price lists.  When I add a button or edit button properties, that row of cells doubles in height, in the "editing window" they look okay but when I publish the page they take on the doubled height.
    I contacted Contribute tech support and they say Contribute is working properly and the problem is with how the button code was written in Dreamweaver.  The tech said even though the button looks like it is the proper size, the code tells it to take up more space thus giving me the cell height problem.  My standard price lists do not have any lines defining rows and columns but on one page I have been experimenting with I have given the table a line value of 1 to enable me to see what is going on, you can view this page at; http://www.hopscrimshaw.com/birds/owls1.htm
    My Webmaster and I parted ways a few years ago so seeking help there is not an option, she won't return phone calls, reply to e-mails, etc.
    Any help solving this problem would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,   PapaHop

    I am also having this problem and any answer would be greatly appreciated. The code <p style="margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0;"> </p> gets added whenever text edits are made. This seems to create spaces on the page which pushes content out of alignment. The code gets put into the navigation, the text and anything above the text being edited, jpeg sliders, images, etc.

  • Editing old site created in Dreamweaver

    I have to edit my website (created by someone else in Dreamweaver for me about five years ago). The only thing I really need to change is the "last modified on ..." date - so a very simple edit.
    I have all the files but can't remember how to edit them. I tried to open the "index" html file in Dreamweaver but it's not letting me make any edits in the code panel. Is that not the file that I need to edit?

    Hi Kate,
    sorry, didn't see before, that you already solved your editng problem. Here a hint in the ftp-direction and only to show you another way to all these really good and correct advices, I'll try to give my recommendation:
    For various reasons I prefer to upload my files and sometimes for the opposite way, for a necessary download from my server, with a program which works "outside" of the DW. Therefore I am using filezilla with great success and it looks for me easier to keep track of all operations precisely and generate or reflect easily the desired tree structure.
    Here is the link to get it and where you can read informations about how it works:

  • Adding meta tags to published web site

    I have created my website using iWeb and subsequently downloaded the RAVE SEO tool and used it to add for meta tags to my sites (description and keywords).
    I followed this procedure:
    1) I published my site from iWeb to a local folder on my iMac
    2) I added the meta tags using the RAVE SEO tool
    3) I tried to publish the site to my webhotel with tags added using the ftp tool in the RAVE SEO tool.
    PROBLEM:
    when I publish from the SEO tool, it is the old sites which are published. In my local folder where I started out publishing the web site to, I can see that the tags from description and keywords have been added. But the site which is published does not contain the tags.
    I have a feeling that the SEO tool is looking in a wrong foder, but I cannot change the folder using the "FTP Details" funktion in the SEO tool.
    Do anyone have a suggestion for what to do?
    Thanks,
    Klaus

    I have a feeling that the SEO tool is looking in a wrong foder, but I cannot change the folder using the "FTP Details" funktion in the SEO tool.
    When you click publish and choose FTP you can create a new setup or use an existing one.
    And if you do not know which folder to publish to, click browse. You decide.

  • Can't get a web page to validate with meta tags with w3c??

    I have created a website for my school projects, and every week I have to add something to it for the course, and every monday I have to submit my code in a zipped folder to the professor, after running it through the w3c validation page, and passing, This current week, I was instructed to swork on SEO for my site, and add meta tags to the site to fish for traffic, and then I have to validate it through w3c and submit. Well, I did not complete this because w3c would not validate my page until I removed every single meta tag from the code, and I cannot for the life of me understand the error that is holding me back. So, in an effort to see if I could get some help here, I have included my code, and will try to explain what is happening and the code as well as the error from the validator service. Please have a look, help me, because I am totally lost here....
    Thanks in advance!!
    zlloyd1
    This is my code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <title>zlloyd on the web</title><meta name="" content="Zachariah Lloyd, basketball, computers" /><meta fttp-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="stylez.css" />
    </head>
    <body><div id="container"><h1>ZLLOYD ON THE WEB</h1> <div id="navbar"><a href="about.html">About me</a> <a href="OceanView.html">Ocean View</a> <a href="swimming.html">Swimming</a> <a href="gaming.html">Gaming</a> <a href="BBall.html">Basketball</a></div><div><a href="gaming.html"><img src="images/Gaming-Desktop-Configuration.jpg" width="107" height="239" alt="console" /></a><a href="BBall.html"><img src="images/300px-Basketball_pictogram.svg.png" width="82" height="76" alt="BallinGuy" /></a><a href="swimming.html"><img src="images/swimming.jpg" width="100" height="237" alt="Strokin" /></a></div></div>
    <a href="contactsupport.html">Support </a>
    </body>
    </html>
    and this is what w3c says when I try to validate the page:
    Line 5, Column 131: there is no attribute "fttp-equiv"
    …mputers, swimming" /><meta fttp-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; chars…

    You have used the attribute named above in your document, but the document type you are using does not support that attribute for this element. This error is often caused by incorrect use of the "Strict" document type with a document that uses frames (e.g. you must use the "Transitional" document type to get the "target" attribute), or by using vendor proprietary extensions such as "marginheight" (this is usually fixed by using CSS to achieve the desired effect instead).
    This error may also result if the element itself is not supported in the document type you are using, as an undefined element will have no supported attributes; in this case, see the element-undefined error message for further information.
    How to fix: check the spelling and case of the element and attribute, (Remember XHTML is all lower-case) and/or check that they are both allowed in the chosen document type, and/or use CSS instead of this attribute. If you received this error when using the <embed> element to incorporate flash media in a Web page, see the FAQ item on valid flash.
    What in the world does this mean, because I am seriously lost on this, and the only way I could get around this was to completely remove the entire line, "<meta name="" content="Zachariah Lloyd, basketball, computers" /><meta fttp-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />", which removed all of my meta tags completely, in order to validate it?? I cannot see what is setting this thing off like that, I have never gottena validation error before, and I now know that they are written as meaningless gibberish that does not even remotely explain what is wrong, at least not to me....
    Please help!!!!

    Line 4 and line 5 are trying to do the same thing. Take out the
    <meta fttp-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
    line entirely and you will be good.

  • Finding meta-tag attribute values

    we are considering using UltraSearch for our web site search and i'm trying to figure out how to implement some of our requirements.
    i have created a new Attribute and mapped it to a Meta-tag keyword we have defined, but i can't figure out how to get/select the values found in the Meta-tag so i can create a pull-down list of values.
    what are the tables and what is the SQL i need to get these values/words?
    thanks!
    cb

    You may have already solved this issue but I have been trying to do the same thing and here is what I have found:
    Within the ultrasearch table structure there is a table named 'dr$wk$doc_path_idx$i'. This table contains the indexed words and other values. One of the columns is named TOKEN_TYPE. From what I have seen there is a unique TOKEN_TYPE for each mapped attribute. You can then select from that table based on TOKEN_TYPE(or create a view for each attribute). For Example: I mapped an attribute called Country to a meta tag named Country. Let's say that the TOKEN_TYPE for this example is '24'. I can then query the table for all values with a TOKEN_TYPE of 24 to give me a list of countries that were found. NOTE: The results returned are single words ie: united, states, kingdom, arab, emirates - not "United States", "United Kingdom", "United Arab Emirates". If you solve how to string them together please post bag.

  • Meta Tags DO matter

    Hi
    I have run some tests and despite what most people say, the Meta tags do make a big difference in SEO,.... with iWeb anyway.
    When I enter meta tags for my site www.teachabroadthailand.com i get listed for my target keywords and description. When I don't enter the Meta tags, my site description come up with all this garble in the summary.
    Trouble is, I have to use another FTP client to go in and enter the Meta tags each time I edit the site. This is infuriating and somewhat defeats the purpose of using iWeb.
    I'm baffled as to why iWeb cannot allow such a simple, but still very important, feature.
    Also since I upgraded to iLife 09 my iWeb has become buggy. The site doesn't display properly on IE8.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    A lot of us use iWeb SEO Tool to add tags.
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/SearchEngines/Tags.html
    There are a lot of features that could and should be added to iWeb. All this stuff has been suggested over and over but nobody listens.
    iWeb needs to have both an optimizer and a way to enter meta data.
    The developers seem to have burned their brains out on their dysfunctional FTP and haven't yet got around to fixing the actual bugs.

  • Do I need to add meta tag info to all pages if I'm creating a desktop, tablet and phone site?

    Hi all,
    I'm creating a website for a client and have built a desktop, tablet and mobile site.
    What I'm wanting to know is can I add meta tags to only the desktop pages or does it need them on the tablet and mobile sites as well? Does this include images as well since the same images are repeated on all three site?
    Lastly I have to add Google Analytics to the <head> section, is this only done on the home page of the desktop site or does this need to be added to every page (including tablet and mobile)?
    Would be grateful for any info or links.
    Thanks
    Krishna

    Hi guvieira,
    I found the answer to this issue.
    For the meta tags, if you create meta tags for the desktop pages, you can copy and paste that information to the tablet and mobile sites.
    For the Google Analytics you can copy the tracking html text to the 'HTML for <head>' in the Metadata window (Page - Page Properties) on your masters page (this will flow onto the rest of the pages).
    Hope this helps.
