Metadata Management and CMS

Hello
I have installed BO XIR 3.1 sp3 and Metadata Mangement on a window 2008 sp2 platform. Everything was going well. After a server problem I had to redeploy the Metadata Manager and BOMM  apps on tom Cat (5.5).
After the redeployment of the two apps, the BOMM console worked well but it's impossible to view Metadata Management in the cms. Here's the message that I get:
http 404 and :
MetadataManagement/jsp/Integrator_List/list.faces
When I try to configure the repository via the application options of the cms here's what I get:
http 404 :
Management/jsp/Repository_Properties/properties.faces
Do I have to redeploy? refresh a property file ? copy a war file?
Thanks

Hi Harpreet,
Thanks for the reply!
The current architecture is:
PeopleSoft -> SAP ECC -> SAP BI -> BOE -> WebI
We are trying to perform mappings from field names on reports in WebI back to their SAP BI technical name / description, and even into ECC if possible. I was able to run Metadata Integrator in DS to collect lineage information from the BOE server, but this doesn't give me anything further back than BOE. I assumed that I would need to add the remaining steps manually, yet it sounds like you have a better idea.
How can we go about doing this? Are you saying that if I use:
SAP ECC -> DS -> SAP BI -> BOE -> WebI
Then it will show my lineage from WebI all the way to ECC automatically? Do you have any examples of this? If that is the case, then I would like to test it out.
Thanks,
Brian

  • Layer locking management and CMS type of integration

I'm evaluating a minimal check-in/check-out feature that would be layer based. The project i'm working on involve multiple documents, multiple layers and "composition" documents that are using layers from the master documents to create new master documents.
I cant give too much details, but there is definitively a need to track change on a more finer grain than just document level. In a very general way, my requirements would be something like this:
    - Give a visual feeback to the user as for the Layer status and info (is locked, revision version, type, id)
    - Listen to layer selection/layer modification attempt. Update visual status. Have a dialog for check-in/check-out.
I have evaluated quite a few things so far and i havent found a really solid solution:
A exemple of problem i stumbled on while looking for solutions:
The locking scheme of photoshop is giving me some problems as it cant manage the lock status of a child independently of parent layer lock status. There is some behavior that could be considered inconsistent like this one:
    - Lock child layer
    - Lock parent layer
You can unlock the child layer (regardless of parent status), but you cant lock it back (as the parent is locked). There is a similar problem with layer coloring as it also a non-colored child will inherit from parent coloring status wich make it very hard to use layer coloring to help the user "spot" some type of layer (in my project, the layer happened to be "group" layer wich are nested, making the coloring confusing!).
[Side note: I did some exploration with Indesign SDK and it seem to have a more open API for system integrators.. but i can understand that the history of the product and market has in alot of ways made this a "must".]
I will have very probably to revert to layer naming to indicate my own "locking" status. (Communication with database/system to keep track of this status in regard to the document id is not a problem at this point.)
I have looked at the ScriptEventListener first to detect for layer selection. The problem is that the listener receive a generic select event for alot of objects and just start a script without passing parameter on the object that was selected.
I have the impression that using the SDK i could know that the Select event has been generated for a layer object (i will try this with the listener sample in SDK when i will have resolved my Codewarrior licence bug), but i have read on the forum that another user was trying to listen to draw event without success (has been commented out in the piterminology.h file... So it looks like i would not be able to prevent a user to modify a layer... (unless playing with history??).
Anyway, i know the description here is quite vague and generic, but i would be curious to know if there is some other users that have worked on similar problem or know well the api if they have any impressions or comments. I'm aware of my own limitations.. but maybe i'm trying to do something that would be hard even for expert developper??

    Hi,
I hadn't installed CU3 however as a test i tried installing CU4 and this didn't help. Since my first emails i have more issues that have brought a complete hault to the upgrade project.
If i double click on a package to run it manually I basically get the same issue. This means i have no way of running any packages except throught VS.
I've also found that regardless of the order of the software installs it still fails. It's related to SP1 of SQL and SP4 of VS.
I'm on Server 2012. When install in the following order SQL 2012, SQL SP1, VS2012, BIDS, VS SP4 i have no problem until VS SP4 is installed. If i install VS SP4 then BIDS it also fails at the last step. If i install all the VS and BIDS software first, then
SQL then SQL SP1 it fails at the SQL SP1 step.
This means i could actually install everything and either ignore the SQL SP1 or the VS SP4 and i'd be fine however this is not really a solution as i will never be able to patch the software and once live this is very dangerous.
I am still surprised there is no obvious solution to this. I'm only installing MS software on a fresh box and only installing 5 pieces of software (including the SPs). I would have though if this was an issue others would have come across it too.
Has anyone else installed all these components and got them working on the same OS. I believe early on in my testing i installed these in Windows Server 2008 and didn't have the issue.
    Regards.
    Simon.

  • Can the limit of 1,000 results on search results be expanded in Metadata Manager?

Hi, Nagaraja Ganiga Thank you so much for your answer, one more question, if we trying to search this kind of views in the search tab, it won't be shown, is that caused by the limitation?Because now when I engage a search based on a table, the view, which definition is exceed the limitation can not be shown.

The design of the Metadata Manager is to hold maximum of 4000 characters in Oracle and DB2, 2000 Characters in Microsoft SQL Server for the View Definition. This is a known limitation in Metadata Manager and a CR (CR 103250) has been submitted to be resolved in the future release. Thank you,Nagaraja Ganiga

  • Our CMS does not support new version of Firefox. Can I have the "downgraded" version of Firefox AND the upgraded Firefox both on my Mac, so I can use the older Firefox to manage my CMS?

Essentially, the CMS we use to manage our website (mainstreetartsfest.org) is Sitefinity, and apparently it doesn't support the newest version of Firefox. And, from what I understand, this version of Sitefinity is not being upgraded at the support level - we are now being asked to spend $$ on moving to a new CMS to support the browsers. Chrome, Safari also a problem. Only IE works, and we all have Macs. I want to know if we can have the older Firefox AND the upgraded Firefox both on our computers so we can use the new Firefox for general browsing, and resort to the older, 3.2 version for managing the CMS. I know I can download a previous version - but I would rather not replace our new version of Firefox in the process.

You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • Metadata Manager Repository Configuration Error

I'm trying to install XI 3.1 Metadata Manager FP1, and run into the following error:
    "Metadata Management Repository Configuration
Metadata Management Repository configuration failed with the following error.

    InfoObject CrystalEnterprise.MM.Repository was not found.
Unable to initialize Metadata Management Core.
    Utility failed with code 3.
You need to re-run the installer again."
I ran it again and got the same error. I have a SQL Server database set up, ODBC connections test successfully. Anyone know how to resolve this issue?

I ran into the same error, and a colleague was able to figure it out. I thought I'd share that in case someone else runs into this.
We have two CMS servers. When I was installing MM's CMS components on the first server, it failed late in the install because it couldn't find an object that was installed earlier. It must have been accessing the second server, even though I entered "localhost" as the CMS location. By disabling and stopping the second server in the CMC, I was able to complete the install.

  • Metadata Management Setup connection error

I'm trying to install BO Metadata Management (3.0) over a BO XI R3.1, to try it's features and testing.
After the setup launch of "Metadata Management" I fill my credentials to log on to BO CMS, but the setup fails with "Test connection failed" error, without giving any further error details. The BO is functioning, I can logon with the same credentials to CMC, InfoView and so on.
As a result the setup program aborts.
Can anyone give some help on installing Metadata Management  with BO XI R3.1, or had the same error?
    Thanks in advance.

It seems that I am facing the same problem when I am trying to install BOMM XI 3.1 (12.1) on top of BOE XI 3.1 SP3.?  I am sure that the connection information is correct. Who can help out here?

  • Metadata Navigation and Library Column Filter Bug

    To whom it may concern,
When document library metadata navigation is enabled and a user clicks an item in the metadata navigation part, the library updates to reflect the selected filter. Subsequent filtering actions performed on columns in the library do not filter the list
further. For visuals refer to the thread below.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/ab5c7d15-14e7-470a-8120-71d049a104d3/list-metadata-navigation-and-columns-filters-not-working?forum=sharepointgeneral
My reason for re-posting this is 2 fold.
    1. The answer to the thread above is not an answer, it is a work around.
    2. Presenting the option for a user to continue filtering a view, but having that option do nothing is a bug. The option should be hidden, or it should perform the expect action.
Please either inform me of an expected timeframe for resolution, or point me to an exacting set of steps to take in order to escalate this issue to someone who will take action to fix it.
    Thanks

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that column filtering cannot work after filtering on the managed navigation in SharePoint.
I tested the same scenario per your post in my environment, and I got the same results as you got.
We will help to submit the issue to proper pipeline for you.
Again, thank you for your report which will definitely make SharePoint a better products. There might be some time delay.
    Appreciate your time and patience.

  • Lightroom Metadata editing and workflow is tedious nightmare!

I'm new to Lightroom in just the past month, but have used it enough to see that a serious interface problem makes Lightroom version 1x virtually unusable in a deadline-oriented publishing workflow. Lightroom's Metadata editing and workflow is just a terrible nightmare, and far too tedious and slow. It appears to be an afterthought implemented by good-hearted souls who've never had to edit this sort of information under serious deadline pressures. I know Lightroom is marketed as an image database and not a file browser, but we're all looking to simplify our workflow here and with just a few subtle enhancements, Lightroom could be an excellent file browser and file import manager too.
As it is now, the Lightroom v1x handling of File Naming and Renaming, Metadata Editing and Keyword Editing is poorly implemented and in need of an immediate overhaul to help professional photographers expedite this crucial and time-consuming first step in the archiving workflow. While Lightroom is very good at many other tasks, I give it a big fat "F" of a failing grade for these tasks.
First, the Lightroom Library Module needs an even more simple, linear interface that steps users through a precise procedures (and helps them remember them). Arguably, to accomplish this, the Import function may need to become a separate Module that can be selected and used separately before entering the Library. As File Naming and Renaming, Metadata Editing and Keyword Editing currently are implemented, I, for one, am always forgetting to fill out one of these critical sections and can't even seem to remember that some may need to be done before importing while others appear to be conceived to be done after importing. My point is, all these related steps really need to be done together, but the Interface spreads out the functions too much, and it is nearly impossible to build a logical and linear Import workflow, especially when you are first learning Lightroom.
I'd like to see a workflow that walks me through applying and editing (in order), File Naming, Basic and IPTC Metadata, Captioning and Keywords, so that I don't always forget some obscure step in the process (which I keep doing). Here are some specific suggestions, some of which may prove to be valid, some of which may be problems due to my lack of experience with thye software.
    1. As currently implemented, Metadata editing requires too much thought, and does not have enough intelligent automation. Eliminate as much typing as possible (See Photo Mechanic!)
    2. Lightroom needs better Metadata Presets. A "Quick Edit" view to simplify interface for editing minimal metadata info (File Name, Basic Info, Keywords, Headline, Limited Copyright Info).
    3. Separating Keyword Tags, Metadata Browser, Keywording Presets and Metadata Presets confuses the workflow. They should all appear together under one selectable module that organizes a suggested, linear workflowfor these tasks, but allows it to be customized. This is the sort of tasks that need to be learned by rote memory, and having all these panes floating around on both sides of the photo make it impossible to quickly step through these tasks.
    - Name (or Rename) files, Edit/Apply Basic and IPTC Metadata, Edit/Apply Keywords, Import or...
    - Import, Name (or Rename) files, Edit/Apply Basic and IPTC Metadata, Edit/Apply Keywords, Import
    4. Rename should offer the option of renaming the master file names on the disk, not just file names in the database (which I think is what Lightroom does, but again, this is very confusing for new users)! So, it is my belief that this feature needs a checkbox option to rename one, the other or both. But you need to be able to quickly find this dialog box every time you do an import, and it should not be hidden away out of view under the Library menu. Ideally and logically (for workflow), File Renaming should be handled when starting the Import into Lightroom.
This is critically important because many user

Lightroom metadata editing Part 2 (see Part 1 at top of thread)...
...This is critically important because many users just do not want to trust their images solely to any database and we want the ability to go look for master files with identical names should something go wrong with the software or we decide to edit the file in Photoshop outside of Lightroom or even switch to another library software program.
My own habit is to rename every file with the date followed by a unique, three-digit file number, as in 20070717_001, 20070717_002...up to 999 etc. (I have never shot more than 999 files in a single day, but this could be a four-digit number). To file these on disk, a folder with a similar naming scheme is created for each day's shoot, although a keyword slug is added to the end instead of file numbers.
    5. Metadata Presets (Basic Info, IPTC metadata, EXIF metadata), Keywords need to be able to toggled on or off (promote/demote-expand/contract). Turning Off/On one section at a time via the Metadata Presets popup menu is too tedious...and you can't display IPTC and Large Caption together or leave Large Caption turned on. It also is difficult to remember where the Large Caption default (Preferences) setting is...
    6. Please get the EXIF data out of the way entirely when editing captions and visa-versa...And the EXIF data should not separate Basic Info and IPTC Info fields. Please relocate the EXIF to the bottom of the Metadata pane...
    7. IPTC Content, IPTC Copyright, IPTC Creator, IPTC Image expand/collapse sections need more automation:
    - The Presets fields need Preset lists of entry choices for cities, states, countries, etc.!
    - ISO Country Code automatically should be filled in when a country is entered.
    - Date created automatically should be filled in from camera EXIF data
    - Metadata Presets "Save As" should fill in old name, and allow you to rename it; (When it appears, the new name field should not be empty. This would aid in consistent, alphabetical naming
    - Metadata Presets naming should support job names, with actual Presets saved under each job name...
    8. IPTC Status EXIF, Contact, etc.
    - Caption field MUST display more than one line...(6-8 lines)!
    - Caption field MUST support Shift/Return!
    - Headline (IPTC Content) should be displayed with (and above) caption. Please present information logically!
    - Yellow popups should describe what each field name is for...some are real brain teasers...

  • NW BRM, Rules Manager and transport the BRM project through the landscape.

    Hello,
I have a question about the working with Rules Manager and the possible difficulties of the changes management.
    The scenario is simple.
We have created a BRM project in software component with decision table and initialized it with some values. Then we transported it to the QA and Prod system through the CMS. Note: in the SC not only the BRM project but also a WDJ, for example.
Then business user changes the values in the decision table in Prod system by using Rules Management functionality. Everything is OK till now.
But then we changed something in the WDJ component in the same SC and then transported it to the Pros system. After that transport the changes of the business user are lost. How can we fix it?
Of course we can download the runtime content from the prod system, but it's bit complicated. Any ideas?

    Dear Kirill,
SAP NW Business Rules Management web UI tool for business users (Rules Manager) has a feature "Download Rules Content" from CE 7.3 onwards.
Please find the details of the feature in the below link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/42/89a408c265402dbaf1c39ea423d816/frameset.htm
Using the above "Download Rules Content" feature of RulesManager, you should be able to import the latest version of the Rules Project, which contains the changes done by the business user, into NWDS. Once you have the modified rules project in NWDS you should be able to transport it to QA and Prod systems without the data loss.
But this feature is only available from NW CE 7.3 onwards.
Hope this helps resolve your problem.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Santosh Giri

  • Errors in the metadata manager

    Hi Experts,
Periodically we're seeing Error Event ID's 18 and 19 on our SSAS server (SQL Server 2008 R2) hosting SCSM Data Warehouse DB's.
The cube's appear to be processing OK from what I can tell, but everything I can find online relating to these errors indicates some corruption in the Data directory.  We get these errors in two different, separate SCSM environments (SCSM 2012 SP1 UR4).
Has anyone ever experienced these Errors before?
Below are the details for these Errors.

  • Dependencies of Calculation View is not showing in metadata management of SAP IS

    Hi
I have created calculated view based on 3 tables in sap hana and imported that view into SAP IS .but i am unable
view the 3 tables used by the  calculation view  in metadata management in SAP IS.
If i click on view impact/lineage for the calculation view it has to show the 3 tables right?

    Hi Vamsi,
I order to see objects in IS/MM explorer. You need to run an integrator against the data base or repository the tables reside in.
So you imported the view into IS/DI correct?
    Thanks,

  • File metadata management - application wanted

    Hi folks,
i have a lot of pictures and other files, that are lying around, i guess we all have. the problem with sorting emerges ever again.
sorting in folders results in a very strict and static structure, which is good sometimes and sometimes not.
so i am on quest to find a software which can manage and store metadata to files, and give me file sets based on different "views".
support for own "keys" would be great, and accessability from commandline appreciated.
for fotos i tried digikam, but a missed the ability to feed own keys in, to which i can sort it afterward. tags dont quite do the same thing for me.
i would be glad if there was a broader, more general solution to this, so if i took time, music, videos and other stuff would be naturally includable into such a metadata management.
thanks for reading and comments in advance
    ford

I made a program called "mebitag" for this a long time ago. You write the tags yourself in an XML file, but then it provides a GUI to browse and filter by tags.

how are you specifying the SQL Server 2005 server name in the repository configuration screen ?
are you able to ping the machine where SQL Server is running ?
you have to give the Machine Name or IP address in the Repository connection screen, don't give machine\instanceName

    Hi Roberto,
    Thank you for your answer.
I can complete the installation by clicking on the 'OK' button. As if the error is ignored by the system during the installation.
But, after the installation is completed, the deployment of the OLAP cube with (with restore) is not working. we get an error message. I think it is related to the first one.
Is it mandatory to restart the Send Governor after the installation?
Thank you very much for your help!
