I am running out of space on my computer and want to clear up some room. I realized that most of my space is taken up by pictures. I am backing up my computer with an iomega external hard drive. I was wondering if I were to delete the images from my iphoto I would still be able to access the backups? As of now I can see that there is iphoto in my backups, but when I double click them it takes me to my current iphoto images. is it possible to view iphoto in its past states? will all my images be gone if i delete them from my mac?I realized that most of my space is taken up by pictures.
You can put your iPhoto Library on an External Drive:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

This depends entirely on what your back up software is. For instance, if it's Time machine, no. Other systems will allow it.
Note If you do delete the Library and use the one on the back up remember that you will have *no back up* of your Photos.

What do you mean, remove?
If you deleted the backup, then it can no longer be viewed. You'll have to create a new backup.
Backups are stored in the following locations:

How to View Backup on Time Machine of another computer?
I am trying to make sure my MacBook is Backedup. I am trying to look at my MacBook4,1 files on my external hard drive from my IMac5,1. I tried using control click on TM, gave me Browse other TM disks, but I still get the red circle with a minus sign inside on the folders and cannot open or view them: Please help!
You can browse the content of that disk in Terminal using root account.

Can't View Backups Within Time Machine
After 8 months of flawless operation Time Machine give an error backing up. I deleted the ".InProgress" and "Latest" files within the .backupsdb file. After this Time Machine did a proper backup - it showed up within the .backupsdb file. When I now enter time machine I don't see the 8 months of backups - only todays backup.

That's not good. You can corrupt your backups that way. Time Machine can recover from a partial backup all by itself. And the "latest," which is an alias, not a file, is what makes the +Today / Now+ panel. I think TM will re-create it for you.
Do a +Repair Disk+ (not permissions) on your TM drive via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder).
If you have a problem with TM, start with the Time Machine - Troubleshooting post at the top of this forum.

Is there way to view backup assistant online?
Someone on my plan dropped her phone in water and I guess it's really messed up. She also was dropping Verizon to go to another company and pay the bill themselves. Anyways is there a way to access backup assistant thru my account so I can print out the #s that were on that phone. So then they don't have to ask everyone all over again?
You (or she) would need to log in with HER phone number to access her backed up contacts. Once logged in with her phone number, go to My Verizon, My Device, Backup Contacts. When you are on the screen with her contacts listed (hopefully they are there), follow the steps given in this post:

ACS 5.3 View Database Backup hanging
In ACS 5.3 .0.40 the backup of the view database stopped working.
There seems that a backup stucked in progress.
Incremental backup is configured, I cannot edit the configuration in
"Monitoring Configuration -> Data management -> Removal and Backup" - the browser times out.
If I want to reload the ACS I get the this message
WARNING: A backup or restore is currently in progress! Continue with reload? (yes/no) [yes] ?

I have seen issues with ACS View backups getting stucked if Incremental Backup is not configured. This might not be the case as you have stated that Incremental Backup is configured on your ACS.
At this point, the best approach would be to collect the support bundle including the day the ACS View backup was triggered and open a TAC case in order to deeper investigate the issue.
It would be important to specify if the services of the ACS have been restarted already or not. I would recommend to leave it as it is until collecting the support logs.
NOTE: Also, a possible reason for this issue to occur is that the ACS was not able to complete a previous backup and the /opt/CSCOacs/view/temp/IncrementalBackup.Running file got locked. This should be confirmed by a TAC engineer as well as we might need to access the underlying OS of the unit.

Backup report function returns: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
Hello All,
I recently switched over from control file RMAN to recovery catalog. I logged into the 11g database control, executed a full backup and all went well. However, I just noticed that after I click on 'Backup Report' in database control (enterprise manager) I get the following error message: " java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist"
I was able to view backup reports prior to switching over to recover catalog. What am I missing or what is missing, sort to speak?

I have 10g on AIX. We are taking RMAN hot backup every night and log replaced every night.
How can i check RMAN backup went successfully or not before three days? Is there any system view or table available for that?

VishalThere's only like 7,498 possible list commands/options you could use to view backup sets and pieces. Otherwise, script/spool the RMAN session. If you are using a MML such as Veritas, use the canned/provided script and generate a log file from that. That's what I use, plus a cron to scrape the last line of the log to check success or failure and email the results. If the job fails, you can use the email (even sending it as a text message so you get it as an alert on a cell phone) as a check mechanism.

ACS 5.3.0.40 On-demand Full Backup failed.

I have ACS 5.3.0.40 Primary Secondary Authenticators , of which the Scheduled backup has stopped.

The same was observed earlier too.
I have made the
Incremental Backup to ON and intiated the
View Full Database Backup Now. But it wasn't successful and reported an Error:
FullBackupOnDemand-Job Incremental Backup Utility System Fri Dec 28 11:56:57 IST 2012 Incremental Backup Failed: CARS_APP_BACKUP_FAILED : -404 : Application backup error Failed
Later i did the acs stop/start "view-jobmanager" and initiated the On-demand Full Backup , but no luck, same error reported this time too.
Has any one faced similar type of error /problem reported , please let me know the solution.

Following is taken from the readme for this patch
The Monitoring and Reporting database can increase when as records are collected. There are two mechanisms to reduce this size and prevent it from exceeding the maximum limit.
1. Purge: In this mechanism the data will be purged based on the configured data retention period or upon reaching the upper limit of the database.
2. Compress: This mechanism frees up unused space in the database without deleting any records.
Previously the compress option could only be run manually. In ACS 5.3 Patch 6 there are enhancements so it will run daily at a predefined time, automatically when specific criteria are met. Similarly by default purge job runs every day at 4 AM. In Patch 6 new option provided to do on demand purge as well.
The new solution is to perform the Monitoring and Reporting database compress automatically.
2. New GUI option is provided to enable the Monitoring and Reporting database compress to run on every day at 5 AM. This can be configured under GUI Monitoring And Configuration -> System Operations -> Data Management -> Removal and Backup
3. Changed the upper and lower limit of purging of Monitoring and Reporting data. This is to make sure at lower limit itself ACS has enough space to take the backup. The maximum size allocated for monitoring and reporting database is 42% of /opt( 139 GB). The lower Limit at which ACS purges the data by taking the backup is 60% of maximum size Monitoring and Reporting database (83.42 GB). The upper limit at which ACS purges the data without taking backup is 80% of maximum size Monitoring and Reporting database (111.22 GB).
4. The acsview-database compress operation stops all services till 5.3 patch 5 , now only Monitoring and Reporting related services are stopped during this operation.
5. Provided “On demand purge” option in Monitoring and Reporting GUI. This option will not try to take any backup, it will purge the data based on window size configured.
6. Even if the “Enable ACS View Database compress” option is not enabled in GUI then also automatic view database compress will be triggered if the physical size of Monitoring and Reporting database reached to the upper limit of its size.
7. This automatic database compress takes place only when the “LogRecovery” feature is enabled, this is to make sure that the logging which happens during this operation will be recovered once this operation is completed. ACS generates alert when there is a need to do automatic database compress and also to enable this feature.
8. Before enabling “LogRecovery” feature configure the Logging Categories in such way that only mandatory data to log into Local Log Target and Remote Log Target as Log collector under System Administration > ... > Configuration > Log Configuration
This “LogRecovery” feature can recover the logs only if the logs are present under local log target.
9 This automatic database compress operation also performed only when the difference between actual and physical size of Monitoring and Reporting database size is > 50GB.
10 The new CLI “acsview” with option “show-dbsize” is provided to show the actual and physical size of the Monitoring and Reporting database. This is available in “acs-config” mode.

Job Activity shows Succeeded but Backup Report show nothing
Greetings -
I usually view Backup Reports under the Availability tab in EM and noticed that my latest incremental backup
was not listed at all - nothing.
I went to the Jobs link and under Job Activity I can see that the job Succeeded and the next run is scheduled as expected.
The previous run of this incremental backup was run two days ago and it shows that it Completed in the Backup Reports page..
Any ideas on how to correct this ?

BrianIn addition, when I get info on the account and look at all messages on POP server, they are all there as new messages and when I select ones removed from my mac or downloaded to my mac are blank....
So it is reading the messages, just not retrieving them.

Error: backup/synchronization services
when I go to the preferences and choose backup sync, I get the messasge "there was an error opening backup/synchronization services. close and try again." The backup to my phtoshop.com account has been working.from Elements. I created a new album and set it to sync. It won't sync. I am using Elements 9
Backup sync is checked in the album. When I check view backup sync status. the window tells me that "your desktop photos and videos are in sync with your online account. click sync now to check for any changes since last sync cycle" Why is it referring to desktop photos? My photos for this catalog are in My pictures.
