Method that fines zeros of a function.
I've a method:
double y (double x)
I need a method:
find_zeroes(range_min, range_max )
that gives me back an array with the passages on zero of the "y" function in the range between range_min and range_max
I mean that if at [x], [y=-0.001] and at [x+0.001], [y=+0.001] then probably at [x] there will be a zero of the function so, it will be returned as an element of the array.
is there any code around that does this work?
thanks
Is this homework?
Look up Newton-Raphson method. There are other methods.

OOP methods that validate a date

I need a sample vi that can plot a transfer function given zeroes and poles (It should allow the user to input zeroes and poles). The user should be allowed to put poles and zeroes, with frequency. DONE IN S DOMAIN.
I have created a VI (LabVIEW 6.1) that does what you want. Note that the poles and zeros have to be entered correctly that is in Rad/s and typically with negative real part. The VI offers you all options for lin/log frequency axis, magnitude in dB or not, phase in Radians or Degrees etc...
The VI is written with "academic" in mind, so it is not optimized for performances but (hopefully) for clarity. I hope this will work for you.

How can I implement a get method that lets me divide two values, Help plz
I need to implement a method that divides the values return by two other methods but I keep getting an error message, I think its divide by zero error ( I am not too sure on the exact error msg as I do not have java installed on this pc as yet), here is my example,
I have two get methods that take an int value so say
getValueOne() as method one
getValueTwo() as method two
Now I have a third method that does the following,
Public int getValueThree() {
int value =0;
value = (getValueOne() / getValueTwo())
return value;
I am not two sure on the exact code but it does something like this and I get an error. Could someone please guide me how I can successfully implement a get method that divides two values that are returned by two methods.
Thanks,
ZubHi, thanks for your reply. Right, how can I go about to throw an exception? I can definitely give the exact code and error message tomorrow when I can access my home pc.
And you are right there are some values that are zero! I am not very sure what throwing an exception means to be honest. Could you please give an example?

Calling a method that returns values in a map - using JSTL
Hi I have a method within an object that returns a List for a particular category
public List<String> getFieldsInCategory(String categoryName){
return _categoryFieldsMap.get(categoryName); //This is a map that returns a list
}Trying to call the above function in jsp, the object is available as "document",
how do i pass a key to the above function to return a List.
<c:forEach items="${document.fieldsInCategory('ABSTRACT')}" var="temp">How do i get the list by passing a string key to my method,
please let me know how to go about this.
ThanksJSTL can not directly call methods that take parameters.
All it can do is access javabean properties - ie via the revealed get/set methods.
You can fudge it by having a seperate variable to set:
Map _categoryFieldsMap;
String category = null;
public void setCategory(String category){
this.category = category;
public String getCategory(String category){
return category;
public List<String> getFieldsInCategory(){
return _categoryFieldsMap.get(categoryName); //This is a map that returns a list
}You would then do it like this in your JSP:
<c:set target="document.category" value="ABSTRACT"/>
<c:forEach items="${document.fieldsInCategory}" var="temp">
...The other alternative is to return the entire map to the page.
EL accesses maps quite handily.
so given a method that returns the map:
public Map getCategoryFieldsMap(){
return _categoryFieldsMap;
then the expression: ${document.categoryFieldsMap.ABSTRACT} returns what you are after.
Hope this helps,

Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road while driving. For that reason, I'm also not interested in adding in headphones or additional devices that have the desired button functions. Going both forward and back would be great but I would be pleased just to have a "sight-free" way to go forward.
I've seen some mention here and there about ways to maybe change it so the volume buttons change tracks and holding the volume buttons changes the volume... but I don't know what's involved in that or if its even possible/recommended for a new 5th gen iPod. I think its a great device but its sadly lacking in music oriented functions and features... which is disappointing since music is why most people would bother getting one instead of some other "iDevice" :/Given that you cannot do what you have asked for, perhaps you simply need to find another solution to your root problem.
Presumably, you want to skip to the next track because you don't want to hear the current one, and that is because...
You don't like it.
You've heard it recently and don't want to hear it now.
Simply don't want to hear it at this time.
For problem number 1. Don't put it on the iPod in the first place. (I know, obvious answer!)
For problem number 2. How about playing from a Smart Playlist (initially created in your iTunes Library) which has only songs you've not played recently?
For problem number 3. Hhhmmm! Create alternative Playlists for use in the car.
As for going back to the start of the "now playing" track.... Well, if your Playlist has only songs that you really, really want to hear, then you'll be looking forward to that rather go back to the beginning of the current song.
I'm not trying to be prescriptive, just giving you food for thought.
(They are all cheaper options than buying a car which can control the iPod from the steering wheel.) -
Re: EJB Control not working with methods that contain arguments
John,
I'm not qualified to answer your EJB control question, but before you
become too disillusioned with page flows I'd like to mention that the
request scoped data form and and the return-to="page" issues you
mentioned have been addressed for the next service pack. We've
introduced the ability to specify a page flow scoped form bean which
lives for the life of the page flow, and we've clarified the return-to
values to include both "currentPage" and "previousPage" which should
clarify the expected behavior.
I hope you give it a try.

regarding your question, all you need is to find a nice serializer/deserializer framework (you can use

Sanyo HD2000 import of HD movie One method that worked.
Here is how I was finally able to import movies from my HD2000 into iMovie this evening. This was the first method that was successful for me. Your mileage may vary.
1) I broke down and paid $29.00 for QuickTimePlayer Pro.
2) I then converted my *.MP4 movies that had been imported by iPhoto previously, into a new folder
called "ProcessedMovies" with the same name and *.MP4 extension.
This was done with the FILE->EXPORT and
MOVIE to MPEG-4 setting.
The incoming movie inspector details were Format H.264 1920 x 1080 FPS=59.94 16.55Mb/s
The outgoing movie inspector details were Format AAC 352x288 FPS=30
This was after I docked via the usb port and camera menu options COMPUTER->CARD READER and iphoto imported all the original media.
This isn't quite what I want but it's a start.
The movies in iPhoto will play at full resolution on the Mac so far.
I haven't yet been able to get the movies into iMovie into a high def format (even at 30fps) I expect 30fps will be the best iMovie will support at this point.
--R
\I purchased Steve Mullen's book "The Ins and Outs of iMovie '09" and in there was the fix for my primary problem.
When I docked, iPhoto was coming up and importing all the photos.
His tip on page 50 "If iPhoto Opens When you Plug in a USB Camcorder" was the solution.
Open Image Capture and change the General settings to "No Application" this fixed my big issue.
So far all the recording formats except two seem to import trouble free. (I tried a sample yesterday)
The 60fps (frames per second) I need to re-try. I had a sample of one of the low performance web formats (Don't recall), and got an error on it one time.... it may be a fluke.
However the 30fps full def HD, all the way down to SD video and Web based test images all imported fine.
I'm now taking my first stab at editing with iMovie.
(Total Newbie).

Method that blocks like Dialog Boxes
Hello,
I am making a common Swing Desktop Pane under which many different Applications will be running. We don't want to give each application access to the desktop pane for showing errors, because then we could possibly overrun the user with error messages (ie all eight applications popup a JOptionPane at the same time). To get around this, I want to provide each application with a reportError() method that would ensure only one popup dialog box is ever displayed.
However, I want it to block the calling thread just like the Dialog.show() method works. So the calling code could do something like this...
int result = commonEnvironment.reportError( "Error: Abort this action?" );
if( result == 0 )
{ blah... }
else if( result == 1 )
{ blah... }The whole idea is that if there is already a dialog open (by some code calling reportError() ), and some other code then calls the reportError() method, I want this method call to block untill the follow sequence of events happens...
1) The user closes the current dialog
2) The common environment notices this, and pops up the new dialog
3) The user closes the new dialog
4) reportError() method returns.
I have tried looking at the source for java.awt.Dialog.show() method, but it only served to confuse me more. Could I just reuse the code from that method to accomplish this? If so, what parts do I need? If not, how can I implement this functionality? Thanks for any help.
RegI'm not sure how that article can help me. It seems to be dealing with how to filter out certain events that you want to ignore. I want to figure out a way to "block" the event dispatching thread when some client code calls the reportError() method. I want that method call to block until the associated dialog box is shown and closed. Just like how the Dialog.show() method works.

One more thing. I just update my iphone that my boss gave to me but it seems to be like it giving me some trouble. My iphone was updated not too long and was successful. I try to lock into it and it telling me emergency call. I plug it to my itune and it telling me that the sim card is not valid or supported. So I inserted my sim card that I usually use to call and it still saying the same. Please help me get into it.And as far as paying for phone support, here are a few tips:
If you call your carrier first and then they route you to Apple, you usually don't have to pay for phone support.
If you are talking to Apple and they ask you to pay a support fee, ask if you can get an exception this time. That usually works once, but they keep track of the times you've been granted such an exception.
If you still end up paying the support fee, that fee only applies if it's not a hardware related issue. In other words, if it can be fixed by just talking over the phone and following Apple's instructions, then the fee applies. But if your device is deemed to have a hardware failure that caused the issue, then the fee should not apply, and you can ask for it to be waived after the fact.
This forum is free, and almost all of the technical support articles the Apple tech advisors use are available on this website. Literally 99% of what they can do over the phone is just walking you through the publicly available support articles. In other words, you're paying the fee to have them do your research for you. It's like hiring a research consultant to go look stuff up in the public library so you don't have to. You're capable of doing it; you'd just rather pay someone to do it for you.
It's like Starbucks. You know how to make coffee. Everyone knows how to make coffee. And Starbucks coffee isn't any better than what you could make at home for far less. But you want the convenience. So you're really paying a convenience fee. Milk is more expensive at 7-Eleven than it is at the grocery store... because it's a convenience store.
