Microphone problems in Vista with XFI-ExtremeGa

Recently purchased the XFI and installed using just the creative drivers from this website (the 5th March release) however I am now totally confused.. do I install ANY of the software from the XFI installation CD?Secondly, how do I mute the microphone? I have it plugged into the rightmost socket on the back of the card (the white socket) but several things are not working. At no place inside Vista can I mute the mic.. if I turn the recording volume to 0% it doesn't make any difference, also without using the +20% mic boost any voice is incredibly quiet despite maximum recording volume, however if I use mic boost I get horrible hissing continuously!?So to summarize.. Microphone volume doesn't work at all?and no option to mute the mic, I have just a limited control panel with effects which seem to make little difference to sound quality and I am left wondering what I have bought for ?60.00 exactly?Anything I am doing wrong?

However, games such as Battlfield 2 and others do not work in hardware mode! Does this bother anyone else?
The only reason I am not using Vista is because I cannot get games to fuction properly with XFI in hardware mode.
Is there any news on this? How come no one discusses it's

Problems using vista with boot camp

I am currently running vista with boot camp and I have been experiencing a few issues. First on the windows partition it claims that no sound driver is installed-is there an easy fix to this? Also I have been trying to plug in my WD My Book USB external hard drive but I cannot find it to use...although in the device manager it claims that it is working properly. Thanks guys

When you first installed Windows did you install the drivers that came on your Leopard Installation disk?
If not then boot into Windows and get to the Vista Desktop. At this time, insert your Leopard Installation disk in the drive. This should automatically begin installing the Boot Camp 2.0 hardware drivers on your partition. Once completed, you will be asked to reboot into Windows and then you should be all set.

No microphone audible in XP64 with Xfi Fatal

I am running XP 64 pro and cannot get the microphone to work either in windows or in utils like Teamspeak. All the properties are there, the volume is turned up etc. But it's like there is no microphone connected.
any ideas?

edit....did get the mic working, but only by enabling the onboard sound and using the motherboard sound plugs(ports) No audible sound when plugged into the SB X-fi fatality.

Import problem on Vista with datapump

I've got a problem with an import into an Oracle XE database server on Vista, I keep getting Ora error "39070 Can't create log file" when executing an impdp command, whereas exactly the same command is working perfectly on Windows XP.
Here is what I'm doing: I want to create a new DB on a target laptop that runs under Vista. I have Oracle XE installed on both my source laptop where I have the source DB and on the target laptop running Vista. I export the DB on the source laptop with expdp (no problems), then copy the export dir content over to the target laptop, then create the user and all the necessary stuff on the traget laptop XE DB server (account unlock, grant create, then create dir (where the DB dump is) and grant read write on that dir to the new user), then use an impdp command like this:
impdp <user>/<password> directory=<newdb> dumpfile=newdb_schema.dmp logfile=newdb_imp.log
to import the data in the DB on the target laptop.
This fails miserably, whereas it succeeds without problems if I do exactly the same on a Win XP desktop machine set up exactly the same way !
On top of that, I succeeded 6 months ago to do the same thing on that Vista laptop, but now it refuses to work.
What's going on ? Are there known problems with the datapump on Vista, or is it a protection problem, i.e. no rights for the datapump process to write a log file in the dir where the db dump is ? What's the way to get it working ?

Help! please! digital-in not working in vista with xfi ga

I just bought a digital I/O module for my Xfi Gamer card. I was using the youppax driver set. I am not getting any sound from the Digital in on the card. Also the digital I/O selection is greyed out in my control panel. Does anyone know how to get the digital in to work? Next I think I will try to remove all the drivers and software for my xfi and reinstall the Creative Labs latest drivers, do you think that will help?I am sure other people have had this issue also. My primary purpose for my sound card is so I can do multitrack recording on my PC using the digital-in as the source. I have been doing this on my XP machine for years now. This is killing me, Help!!! Please!

The Digital IO module connects to X-fi cards via the Flexijack, which on all of them except the XtremeGamer is an electrical connection. Unfortunately the XtremeGamer's digital flexijack functions are optical-out (only) instead, so the I/O Module won't work with it. The Product page for the Digital IO Module shows what cards it works with. The XtremeGamer doesn't work with the external IO console either due to the lack of the needed connector. Unfortunately this means there is no way to get a digital signal into that particular X-fi card. Sorry

MICROPHONE PROBLEMS IN WINDOWS VISTA HELP!

I have this Toshiba Windows Vista laptop and the microphone will only work with Yahoo only. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated very much on how to get this to work for everything else just like it used to. Thanks!
I have been told to contact the manufacturer of this microphone, but the problem with that is that I have more than one microphone with different manufactures and they all do basicaly the same thing. They don't work but in Yahoo only! Can you please tell me what I need to do to get all of them to work once more in different things besides Yahoo only. Thanks!

With a microphone plugged in, right-click on the sound icon in the Notification area of your taskbar and click Recording Devices. Select the external device, click Properties, and verify the settings.
Won't hurt to reinstall the driver.

I think this is the same problem I had for a while, which had me pulling my hair out until I found the annoyingly simple solution. Hopefully it'll work for you too.
In the Creative Console Launcher (this is in Game mode, guess it's different for the other two.), open the Mixer tab and then under the slider bar that has "REC"in red, click the little drop down arrow and select microphone. This is all I needed to do I think. Test it with Windows Sound Recorder.
Also in Settings (very bottom-center of the Creative Console Launcher)I noticed that there's a category called "Digital I/O" and under that Flexijack Mode with the option to select between Digital I/O and Mic/Line-In. It's greyed-out on mine but maybe that'll work for you? Hope that hel

Crackling, Left Rear Channel noise, IRQs, 4 Gigs of Memory, fixes and problems with XFi Fatal

Hello fellow troubleshooters. Well I've been working on my XFI issues since there are so many of them trying to make the one piece in my newly built system work as intended. I will put my hardware info below this post for comparison purposes if it helps you at all or for feedback/ideas. Well first off I had the crackling noise popping so on even when my machine was idle. If you have not done this yet do it

Start, Control Panel, Sounds Speech and Audio Device, Change Speaker Settings, Advanced (in device volume), ok now there is a bunch of sliders go to "options" check everything, ok now that you see all the sliders mute Everything besides: Play Control, Wave, CD Player for testing purpose. You will probably hear a difference as you do it. Especially Mic 2. Ok well that issue resolved my popping crackling noises when idle. Ok so I still have a shared IRQ issue since I have an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe board and the slots go as such PCI-E, PCI, PCI, PCI-E, PCI. Well since the GeForce 7800 GTX cards I have take up not just the PCI-E slot, but also the PCI slot is covered from the Huge Fan. Then the Same thing for the Second graphics card. So I have only one slot that works for my PCI Fatalty sound card. Well this forces me to share PCI IRQ between one of the Video Cards and the Sound Card. Its not a "conflict" it is simply sharing the IRQ, after the above issue fixed my popping issue this no longer was a concern. Now my big issue is that I sent my Sub Woofer in for RMA, I have the Gigaworks S750 7. THX speakers, they are great but when I really crank up the volume on them I would get the sound like a speaker was blown in the left rear channel, so I swapped another speaker in its place and I have the same problem. So the RMA folks said to send in the Sub Woofer which cost me over $30 to ship the thing only to have them tell me there is no problem. Well I had recently done RMAs on my sound card, both Video Cards, and my mother board too in hopes of fixing the next problem. So everything is new though I got a refurb on the mobo. So I'm just waiting on my Sub woofer now so I'm using my headphones and guess what I'm finding there is this noise in the left speaker, an issue I sent the headphones back for a long time ago when I was using them waiting to buy my speakers. I have the Creative Pro Gamer headphones. So now I read a post about someone else with the same issue left channel, and I have to wonder I am not alone and that usually means in Creative Labs land there probably is others with this issue that have spouses that wont let them stretch their audiophile legs with extreme volume, if this is you try it out kick up the bass, and see if you have this problem too, if so please post it here. I have no clue on this one and I am open to any ideas. Ok and the last issue!! This is the real problem I'm facing now. I play EQ2 I love my MMO titles with the occassional single player title for those short stints at the computer between work, parenting, and stuff my wife demands be started before she finishes speaking of it (those of you married know what I'm talking about). I have 2 operating systems, XP Home, and XP Pro 64. Home I use for Office, graphic design, and general applications. XP Pro 64 I use purely for gaming. All my games are installed through this OS which is on my 2 74 Gig Raptors in Raid 0, I have another Partition for XP Home, and a 3rd for all the game installs. So I recently found that after selecting Extreme Graphics option in EQ2 then moving the rest of the sliders to Max that my G5 keyboard which has a performance monitor in it showing the amount of Ram usage showed me hitting about 90% and would spilke at the same time as I found I had frame rate slowdown. So I decided to get 2 more gigs of Corsair Twin XMS 3500Pro 024x2 memory bumping me up to 4 gigs. Well I had to go into the bios I found and change a memory setting to discrete and enable the memory hole in order for XP Pro 64 and the motherboard to see the memory. At this time I was working on other things with my computer, and suddenly the popping noise came back so I'm pissed now.... But oddly its not happening in XP home, only in XP 64. So I'm thinking I may have to go to XP home for my gaming OS, then just before I install home I remember that XP home wont register 4 gigs of memory.... So I go turn off the memory hole and discrete settings and this sets the memory to 2 gigs.... Crackling sound in ALL EAX GAMES goes away.... So now clearly my issue with my sound card and EAX crackling noise is Memory related somehow. Now I have isolated it to 4 gigs of memory, but it makes me think of those folks with this issue perhaps something is amiss with their memory and how it works with timing, or onboard memory on the sound card which is a first time memory is put on a sound card?.... Any input is appreciated as to how to repair this issue, thanks for reading, below is my system set up.

I have the a8n-sli Premium which as you stated is basically the same board with a couple extra items. I have the latest beta bios ver -06. Since the early fall release the option which we will be talking about was available in the premium board which it I remember was Bios rev 9. I would download the latest bios rev.
07.04 (latest beta?or go with 06)?and flash in. Here are the steps to get the proper memory options to work and I have also included my system specs to compare.
) Hit Del to get into Bios
2) Go to the second tab on the top of the screen "Advanced"
3) Select the first option in the menu "CPU Configuration"
4) Select the first option in the "CPU Configuration" menu called "DRAM Configuration"
5) Select Manual configuration from the first Menu item.
6) The last two options in the same menu for DRAM are s/w remapping over 4G and h/w remapping over 4G. Select the "s/w remapping option over 4G" and enable it. Disable the "h/w remapping over 4G."?
7) Hit f0 and save the config.
You should now at post have 4GBws total but only 3GBs of usable memory and your X-fi should crush it in XP64 and XP32.

By the way this is defiantly a XP64 driver problem because even with h/w remapping enabled in XP32 the card sounds fine. It only happens in XP64.

Microphone problem with POE 13

m@y microphone works with windows 8.1 but Premier Elements 13 will not recognize my "Realtech High Def Audio device.Any suggestion?

Have you updated your Premiere Elements 13 to 13.1 using an opened projects Help Menu/Updates? If not, please do so.
What type of microphone do you have? Classically, USB microphones do not work with the Premiere Elements (many versions) Narration Tool. However, there are scattered reports where the user claims to have used a certain brand of USB microphone successfully with Premiere Elements Narration Tool. Often the ReadMe files would mention this situation. Although I do not see that mention in the Premiere Elements 13 ReadMe, that does not mean that the problem does not still exist.
One workaround, if no alternative, is to create the narrations in a free program such as Audacity, and then import the narration (wav) saved to the computer hard drive into your Premiere Elements product with its Add Media/Files and Folders.
Please review and consider and give more details.

Problem importing and exporting files in Vista with 5.0

When I nsert my 1 GB card for an Adobe upload, it starts the process fine but about 1/2 way through it stops the upload and gives an error message "Cannot obtain all of the files from this device".
I am able to go ack and select the files which weren't uploaded and the process works fine.
I seem to be having the samee problem exporting to a removable disk. It only exportsd so many filkes and then it says it can't complete the process.
This problem is new with my Vista computer and 5.0. I have all the latest updates loaded.

When was the last time you check for updates. There is one specifically for
Vista. Having said that, this doesn't really sound like a Vista issue.

Microphone problems with IBM ViaVoice OS X 10.4.6

I use a dictation program called IBM ViaVoice for medical dictation. It uses a USB mic called Andrea.
All was working fine until I upgraded to OS X 10.4.6 from 10.4.5 over the weekend, and come Monday AM, when I go to use the program it states "microphone is being used exclusively by another application", and no longer works in the app.
There's nothing wrong with the mic itself, and it checks out in the sound control panel
This is an older app. that IBM no longer directly supports. It still continues to be marketed and supported by a third party company. They "officially"don't support the product past OS X 10.2
I've tried changing configs. in the Sound and Speech control panels to no avail.
I "archived and restored" back to OS X 10.4.5 and it works fine again.
I have the same problem with a new Intel MacBook Pro (OS X 10.4.6) and thought it had to do with the the new architecture, but when this happened to the older powerbook, after the upgrade, obviously it's the software.
Anyone have an idea for a work around? I'd like to continue to upgrade my system and this program is a must for work.

As we all know, ViaVoice is a rather quirky piece of software. For unknown reasons, reinstalls often seems to do miracles. But DO NOT FORGET to backup your "temp" and "user" files BEFORE YOU REINSTALL! And be sure to install the patch to version 10.2 (available on Nuance's site).
If you do a lot of dictating, you might also want to consider using a microphone set-up like the one I recommend in the thread mentioned above. I think it improves accuracy and it certainly frees me from the "can't find the microphone" and similar problems I had with my USB microphone. BUT … don't throw away that Andreas line-in to USB converter!! As I said, ViaVoice is quirky software. There are some situations (like creating a new voice model, if my recollection is correct) where VV insists on connection to a USB microphone. If you don't have one handy, you're out of luck. That's why that USB converter can be a godsend, even years after you've written it off to the cobwebbed corners of the basement.

#What u hear problems in vista 32bit2 I just installed the newer variety of the x-fi notebook card with the wireless broadcast function, and for whatever reason installing the drivers failed the first time, I tried a clean install after that, and the microphone is displayed as not available and what u hear isn't present either, so is there a problem in the driver installation or are those features just non existent in the newer software I also noticed that line in works and the microphone input doesn't, gah, windows fixta is irritating,
EDIT: I found out how to get what u hear to work, I kind of felt stupid but all you have to do is right click in the recording device manager and hit show disabled devices and boom what u hear and the microphone input are there, for what reason I don't know why they were disabled in the first place, but hope this helps anyone with the same problem

Agreed! I have an X-FI Extreme, upgraded to win 7, installed the latest audio drivers, and have just spent the last 2 hours trying to get my "what u hear" back without any luck at all.
I'll also mention that "disabled devices" are shown in the recording options, so that is not the issue.
I was using vista before with the exact same hardware and "what u hear" was available. The driver version was 5.2..200 dated 4/02/07 ... The current driver for windows-7 is 5.2..208 dated 3/08/2009. Maybe installing an older driver would do the trick? I don't know if that would work as I haven't been able to find the old driver I was using for download (just been bombarded with broken links). I'm also guessing that you'll be held hostage to the latest drivers in windows 7.
Get the latest drivers to lose functionality? Sounds like something apple would pull on you!
If anyone has a solution for this, please let us know, otherwise I'll be rolling all the way back to good old XP again.

Photoshop CS2 Upgrade Installation Problems w/ Vista Problems

I recently purchased a new laptop w/ Windows Vista which I'm trying to install my copy of Photoshop CS2 onto. My Photoshop license is an upgrade license ... originally upgraded from Photoshop v4.0.
When installing an upgrade copy of PS CS2, it requires proof of your previous version in order to verify you're a legitimate upgrader. This works fine if you're upgrading from a version of Photoshop after 5.x ...you simply insert your CD and the installation continues. The installation process is less straight-forward for users like myself ... installing from an upgraded version prior to 5. I'm required to call Adobe ... and conduct a phone verification procedure where I give them a code displayed on the screen during installation and they give me a response code to type into the installation form.
I deauthorized my old laptop ... start the installation routine on my new laptop ... call Adobe w/ my verification code ... enter the response code (which is accepted) and complete the installation without any problems. My problem occurs when I go to run the software. The startup screen indicates that the software is still in "Tryout Mode", and the first window I'm presented with is the "Adobe Activation" window requesting my serial number. If I try to enter my CS2 serial number it is rejected with the message:
"You must enter a valid serial number before activating online or viewing activation options. Please check your serial number and re-enter it, or click the Purchase button to buy a copy of this product"
The thing is ... this IS a valid serial number. I've confirmed this with Adobe. (It's probably an upgrade serial number, which is why the software is rejecting it). I called Adobe and they're now telling me that I must enter a paid-support agreement in order to receive help installing my software. They claim their software is working correctly, and it must be a problem with my computer.
Has anybody experienced a problem like this? I refuse to pay more for something that worked fine on XP just to use it on Vista due to bugs in their installation and activation routine.

I know this is an old problem, but surely there is an answer to fix the problem by now...
What problems? I used Photoshop CS2 with Vista with no problems (I still have it installed on a Vista system if you'd like me to check anything in particular). CS3 and CS4 worked well as well. Haven't tried CS5 on Vista as I have moved up to Windows 7, but I suspect it works just fine.
