Microsoft Guidelines for SCCM Proof of Concept

Where can I find the Microsoft Guidelines for Microsoft Proof of Concept for SCCM 2012 R2.
Some of the point I remember are as follows:
POC should be done in Lab and not in production.
POC not to be include any specific customization.
At times customers want to include everything specific to their environment which is not possible in limited time we have for POCs (5-10 days). Where can we show them the guidelines for that? All the customizations they have may take 1-2 months to test and
deliver.
They generally say that all customizations must be provided in POC as they are paying for the project. But actually it is Microsoft paying for that. Just want to know how others deal with such situations.

You need to make your costumer understand that a Proof-of-Concept is exactly what it Means - It proves to the customer that this product can deliver what they need. That does not mean that you have to implement every possible feature in ConfigMgr 2012 and
configure advanced OSD TS´s etc.
Compile a long list of demos, features and functionality and let the customer choose which ones they would like to "examine" in their PoC. When you have tried this a few times you sort of know how long it takes to implement whatever they want.
And just like Gerry - I do not know of any guidance documents from Microsoft either.

  • Help with starting point for "proof of concept" integration

We are a third party application provider and are attempting to figure out how to do a "proof of concept" integration with SAP.  We are not looking for "certification".  Our product does not appear to fit any of the standard certifications for integration and our experience integrating with other systems indicates that no two integration will be identical.
We are looking to do a simple integration scenario with an SAP system so we have some basic experience doing it, can say 'Yes" when asked if we have done it, and can create a video showing a transaction being done in SAP and our system also updating (and ideally the reverse).
Our starting point with respect to SAP knowledge is "0".
Our basic task list (we think) goes something like
    1.  Figure out the version and modules of SAP with which we should be integrating
    2.  Get access to an SAP system (do we rent, is there a developer/evaluation, ...)
    3.  Put some data in the test system (is there a "sample data" set?)
    4.  Figure out the SAP transactions that map to the business process in which we are interested (moving goods in and out of a distribution center/ware house - are there some "standard business process guides")
    5.  Integrate (we are a .NET web based application so we are guessing this means use the ".Net Connector")
Could anyone point out any resources (white papers, links, people, places to find people,...) that might be a good starting point?
    Thanks,
    John

    Athol,
We are looking to recieve notifications out of SAP as tractor trailers at a dock are filled as proof on concept.  The actual integration scenarios we do are more complex and do not match well with any of the pre-packaged certification scenarios.  The real world integration scenarios actual vary substantially from customer to customer in terms of the integration points between systems.
As we have become more marginally knowledgable about SAP, I think we will end up receiving and sending "IDOC" messages from SAP but have no idea what those IDOC messages are or where to start looking for what a "standard" (if there is one) message SAP would generate in reaction to whatever the "trailer is loaded" transaction is.
To figure out what the transaction is, I assume we need to identify what version of SAP we should be targeting for a simple integration.  Are there any could references on what the commonly integration methods are and to which versions they apply?
Something like "hey, if you do an integration with a IDOCs in with SAP Netweaver 2004 then that would good proof you could integrate with 90% of the installed SAP base".  Of course, any links explaining what the versions of SAP are and where they are in there lifecycle and what people are actually using would be helpful.

  • FAQ: User Interface Guidelines for CRM 2007 are now available

The CRM UI Concept Team has made the UI Guidelines for CRM Web Client User Interface (CRM 2007 UI) available to the BPX community:
This document provides an overview of the on-premise as well as the off-premise versions of the SAP CRM Web Client User Interface (UI). It contains the properties and principles of the SAP CRM Web Client UI that are already committed and available. For planned features, refer to the corresponding specification documents.
The information in the guidelines starts with general topics, followed by details. The sections are organized with high-level topics like Page Types and Navigation Schema first, followed by the consecutive sections describing which building blocks and elements of the UI populate the various pages. A section typically starts with one or more screenshots of a central UI element with a generic explanation. The subsequent sections explain the detailed aspects of each element.

  • Problem to generat an report on an SSRS for SCCM 2012 R2 SP1. I got error has occurred during report processing.

    Hi,
Problem to generat an report on an SSRS for SCCM 2012 R2 SP1. I got error has occurred during report processing.
In general it is no problem to generat SSRS reports, but an custom one i get issue with.
    The Error:
    An
error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
    Query
execution failed for dataset 'DataSet1'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand)
    ExecuteReader:
CommandText property has not been initialized

    Hi SaiTech,
According to your description, when you render report on SCCM 2012 R2, you got the error message.
According to my knowledge, the issue can be caused by following reasons:
Select permission not granted to ConfigMgr reporting account. We need to open the SQL management console and open the properties dialog box of configmgr db, grant select and execute permission to ConfigMgr reporting account.
Reporting Services Web Service URL or Report Manager is false. Make sure Web Service URL and Report Manager URL are correct. Restart SMS_Executive service and reinstall Reporting Service Point, then please render the report again.
Report timeout. Increase query and report timeout.
If the problem remain unresolved, please provide detailed information of SRSRP.log (default location: %programfiles%\Microsoft  and Configuration Manager\Logs) and reporting services error log(default location: %programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\<SQL
Server Instance>\Reporting Services\LogFiles), it will help us move more quickly toward a solution.

  • Any major changes to the database for SCCM 2012 and Reporting?

I'm in the process of migrating my custom reports from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012. I wonder if all the tables / views in SCCM 2007 are the same in SCCM 2012 for my reporting purposes? So far everything I've migrated over appears to work without a problem.

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

  • SCCM 2012: enable powershell execution policy for SCCM 2012 console

    Hi,
I always get stuck settings up the remote sccm 2012 powershell (cd psdrive sitecode:). Maybe not a real sccm 2012 question but Powershell but wonder what steps you take to make it work (it works on our production environment, setting up in a lab always gives
me headaches, will defintely write the solution down this time :-)).
Please advise what the steps are in configuring remote powershell for SCCM 2012.
1.my personal account "Myuser" has admin-rights in sccm 2012
2.I can open Powershell logged on to the sccm 2012 server then opening sccm 2012 console, connect via powershell
3.however, when I connect remote to the sccm server, I get the error:
. : File C:\Users\Myuser\Documents\WindowsPowerShell\Microsoft.PowerShell_profile.ps1 cannot be loaded. The file C:\Use

    _Policies at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=135170.
4.So I connect to the sccm-server and ask for the execution policy to unrestricted, I get this:
    set-executionpolicy unrestricted

Those client settings are only for the actions performed by the ConfigMgr client. Normal PowerShell actions are restricted to the configured execution policy on the machine.

  • POC - Proof of Concept

    Dear All,
I am Working as a "SAP HR Functional Consultant".
Now,I have been given the Assignment of Preparing "POC - Proof of Concept" for MSS / E.Recruitment/Succession Planning / Performance Management & Organizational Structure.
Could you kindly help me by suggesting on How to prepare POC?
    Waiting for your reply.
    Thanks.

    Hi -
You need to get the baseline requirements and mock it up in the system.  They don't need all the bells and whistles but they need to see that the system will do what they need it do.  When you demo the POC, anything that you don't show, you need to explain how they will handled (e.g., 'I'm going to show you delivered correspondence but obviously, you'll need to customize and have a developer or whatever create the correspondence you need' or 'I know you need manager's approval for this but that's not a delivered workflow in SAP.  You'll need to customize a workflow to read the chief position for each employee who executes this transaction and they will then approve it before it's completed.'
Good luck - sounds like you need a mentor.

  • ChaRM Proof of Concept

    Hi All,
I need some help with a ChaRM Proof of Concept TMS configuration.
I have this setup that I would like to make work.
    logical component 1: DEV1 > QAS1 > PROD
logical component 2: DEV2 > QAS2 > PROD (this is the same prod as above)
I have ChaRM working fine with a maintenance project with logical component 1 assigned. My issues are arising when I try to have another maintenance project with logical component 2 assigned. The goal is to have maintenance project 1 for dev and customization on a yet to be decided maintenance cycle. And maintenance project 2 for production support on a weekly maintenance cycle.
These are all dummy Solution Manager clients numbers.
    DEV1 is client 500
    QAS1 is client 501
    PROD is client 502
    DEV2 is client 600
    QAS2 is client 601
My TMS is set up with the following:
    SAP > 501 transport
    ZSM1 > 501 transport
    501>502 Delivery
these three worked fine to get the basic ChaRM setup working with maintenance project 1.
    I added:
    ZSM2 > 601 transport
    601 > 502 delivery
    I can't add:
SAP > 601 transport. It tells me the SAP transport layer is already being used. (above to 501)
My maintenance project 2 is having issues being setup because the TMS is not reflecting the DEV 600 > QAS 601 > PROD 502 system landscape.
Anyone have any experience on how to setup the TMS to test this setup? I imagine this would be easier with seperate boxes, rather than having client for 2 DEV, 2 QAS and 1 PROD on the same one.
    regards,
    Jason

    Hi Christian,
well my ChaRM Check is throwing a few errors which usually have to do with the TMS being setup incorrectly.
"No consolidation system found for SMD600 and "No track for project... for log. sys SMD/600"
My TMS knowledge is a bit lacking here. The SAP and ZSM1 are both consolidation routes, but I'm not exactly clear when and how each one is used. Should I just create another consolidation transport route? i.e. ZSM3 > 601 to go along with the ZSM2 > 601 I already created? Is it really just enough to have two consolidation transport routes?
    thanks,
    Jason

  • SQL Server for SCCM 2012 R2

    Hello,
I'm very new to SQL concepts, I have recently installed a backend database for SCCM application with below configuration.
Installed the SQL on VM with 10GB RAM, 50GB(OS Partition), 400GB (SCCM DATA & SQL DATA) and 50GB (SQL Logs)
    OS: WIn Server 2012 R2
    SQL : SQL Server 2012 SP1 Std
Question: I want to know, how to configure the following things,
    01. Limit memory utilization of SQL (Min & Max)
    02. limit the maximum size of the log files
    03. Limit Disk utilization for SQL etc...

    Hi Julie,
My friend Jorge Segarra has a blog about min and max memory that I'd recommend you look at.  http://www.sqlchicken.com/2012/02/setting-memory-limits/
the best answer is "it depends", you want to define an amount other than the default.  by default SQL Server installs with 2 TB of memory enabled regardless of what is on the source system.
With SCCM and 500 GB data files, you will probably find you have memory pressure with only 10 GB.  I would leave a minimum of 1 GB per for every 4 dedicated to the OS, up to 4 GB for the OS.  So in your case,
8 GB for SQL 2 GB for the OS.  If you can add more for the VM that would be a good idea.  Typically you would want 3 x your largest returned dataset in a query.  When you do a checkdb or index rebuilds your memory with get thrashed.
Log files, make sure your database is in simple recovery model.  Understand the type of backups you need to maintain transnational consistency.  Grow them at a minimum of 4 GB increments.  Transaction logs
are made up of VLF's and VLF fragmenation will cause slower writes on write heavy systems like SCCM.  Here's a great blog for more on VLF's http://blogs.msdn.com/b/blogdoezequiel/
Disk limitation should be based on size.  I like 100 GB of free space or 20%, whichever comes first.  This will be determined by the amount of history you want to maintain though.

  • Edge database interaction "Proof of Concept"

    Hi all-
I've read several posts asking about the possibility of Edge interacting with an outside source such as a database.
Thanks to a few posts and examples here (redesign for the example of the mailto" project and Lee Brimelow for the folowing link:
    http://www.gotoandlearn.com/play.php?id=168)
I have built a "Proof of Concept" page that, all within Edge, let's a user click a button to search a database, pulls the results and displays them within the Edge animation...
If people are interested, I can make a complete tutorial that walks through each aspect of this, including how to easily create a JSON file for Edge to import and use...
Here's a link to the working example.  Right now I have it limited to pulling 5 items from the database but what you see  IS live from a MySQL database!
    http://www.fundraiserhp.com/json/send_lasso.html
Let me know if anyone is interested in a tutorial for this...
    James

OK, don't everyone "bash" me at once :-)
I apologize for the delay but some work issues cam up I needed to take care of.  I don't know how good this tutorial is, I was a bit rushed!
There are 3 parts to the video:
Part 1: Creating links within an Edge animation to another Edge animation that displays the database information.
              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrEu5vfXCgQ
Part 2: Creating the "Container" symbol to hold the database information inside an Edge animation.
              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wwb6TFTx3sc
Part 3. Calling the database and creating a .json file with the database info for the Edge amination to impoort.

Each tutorial video has a link to the next video so it should be easy to follow by just going to the first video:

  • SQL standard 2012 licenses for SCCM 2012 R2

    Hi,
We are implementing SCCM R2 for customer, is the license for SQL standard 2012 included in price for SCCM licenses, we have around 5000 mahcines to be managed also a Secondary with express edition installed .
can secondary and primary have different version of SQL for replication ? or it should be same version?
is there a requirement for SQL standard like processor (How many number of processer can be used if this
license is free of cost for SCCM2012  (any limitations ) )  Is license cost calculated based on processor ?
also how many DB can be installed with standard on single instance ? can we use it for WSUS, MDT DB?
how will i get this SQL standard free version from Microsoft any download location.
    Please advise.
    Thanks
    Shuaib

SQL Server Standard is included with all System Center products. As Tim said CPUs are irrelevant in this case.
You can use whatever versions of SQL you like as long as they are supported. However isn't it always best to standardise.
You can install as many databases as you like as long as they are System Center related - the ones you mentioned are OK.
The customer should download SQL from their Microsoft Volume Licensing Center. If they choose the SQL that is bundled with System Center it will be pre-populated with a license key.

  • French checker on Microsoft Word for mac

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone got the french spelling/grammar checker on microsoft word for mac to work? I'm not exactly sure how to set it up, so any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!!

yes - it is included with Word.
If you haven't installed it get your install disks and do a custom install of proofing tools - lots of languages to choose from.
Then in Word set the document, or text selection, language to the language you are using. It does the rest.
