Microsoft Word does not work

My Microsoft Word stopped working a few months ago but I don't know why. Can someone please help me? When I open the application, it shows for half a second in my dock and then disappears immediately after.

I suppose for the last month you could have researched your issue on the Microsoft support web area here:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/support.aspx
and in particular for Word here:

my imac is running mountain lion and last night i downloaded maverick. in midst of installing it, it said a powerPC app microsoft word would not work so i canceled the install for the time being. my questions is  if i choose to finish installing maverick does that mean i will nevver be able to access word documents stored on my desktop? or do the word docs automatically convert to pages or what? i am so confused. would i be better off just sticking with mountain lion and send the maverick install to the trash? hoping someone will be able to answer my question though i am afraid the response is likely to be just stick with mountain lion so you can keep using word. i had been looking forward to maverick but it seems pretty drastic to not have access to microsoft word anymore by switching to maverick. hope someone has an answer so i can have the best of both worlds so to speak!

thanks for your response Csound1 on the peninsula ... if i go ahead and install maverick and then download LibreOffice or OpenOffice will i then be able to access old microsoft word saved documents on my deskstop through those two free alternatives? i am not that knowledgeable about these things so i am not sure if you are saying i will just be able to use libreoffice or openoffice for creating new documents or whether i can access the saved microsoft docs? are they transferred to OO or LO or what and if editing of the old word docs is needed can i do that through the OO and LO programs or apps (see i am not even sure if i am using the correct vocabulary!) hope you can answer this as quick as the first question, so i can decide to stick with mountain lion and trash the maverick install or proceed with maverick install and hoppe that my microsoft word docs are still accessible through OO or LO or adding to myquestion will pages on maverick be able to open the old word documents? thanks again!

  • Error saying Microsoft Word does not exist

I have Microsoft Office 2007 on my computer, and RoboHelp X3.
When I try to create a manual in Word, it gives me an error message
saying, "Printed Documentation: Microsoft Word does not exist.
Please install Microsoft Word 2000 or later." How do I get the two
    applications to recognize each other?

    Welcome to the forum.
You won't get them to recognise each other. The first version
of RH to work with Word 2007 is Adobe RH7.
You can dual install an earlier version of Word if you still
have a licence. How is on my site.
RH has to be installed after Word and you should install the
versions of Word in the order of release. Don't be too surprised if
    you hit some issues.
I would recommend upgrading RH. X3 is pretty old now.

  • "A supported version of Microsoft Word does not exist. Please install Microsoft Word 2000 or newer."

I am a new RoboHelp user und I want to import content written with Word 2013 into RoboHelp.
I'm using RH HTML 9.0.2 and MS Word 2013 (Office 2013) on a Windows 7 professional computer.
When I try to import a Word-Document (I downloaded and used the example document from Peter Grainge and also tried other Word-documents) I get the following message:
"A supported version of Microsoft Word does not exist. Please install Microsoft Word 2000 or newer."
    What can I do?

The error message is wrong as regards the version you need to install. It should state that you need a compatible version and the latest is Office 2010. Even Rh10 does not support Office 2013.
There is a workaround when generating printed documentation but not when importing. You need to install Word 2010 which can co-exist with Word 2013 if you want to retain that for other purposes. Before using Rh to import, run Word 2010 first.
To generate printed documentation using Word 2013, right click Properties in the layout, it works from there.

  • RH9, 32-bit Word 10, "A supported version of Microsoft Word does not exist."

I upgraded to RH9 to try to get past this problem, but I'm still getting the error.
    Printed Documentation
A supported version of Microsoft Word does not exist. Please install Microsoft Word 2000 or newer.
    OK

My bad, I didn't realize that upgrading to TCS 3.5 didn't remove RoboHelp 8.

  • Microsoft Word does not quit

    Microsoft Word does not quit
    MBP X.4.6
I upgraded my computer from a G4 powerbook to a MBP. In the process I also went from system X.3.9 to 4.6.
Since opgrading I have problems with Microsoft Word.
When I log out or shut down Microsoft Word refuses to quit. It hangs and I have to force quit it to get the computer to log of or shut down.
    Any suggestions to fix it
    Thanks
    Eric

It also includes updates prior to that.
You can look at the whole list to see what's been
    fixed from 11.2 to 11.2.4.
    It's a combo update.
Well, yes, and I remember that 11.2.0 (Mac Service Pack 2, and the version I am at) supposedly addressed stability issues with Word, but I can't find any info on the download page that suggests 11.2.1-11.2.4 does anything else to address Word stability (e.g. 11.2.1 deals mainly with an Entourage issue for example).

  • Installed Yosemite and Microsoft Office does not work. How do Apple do it? Help!!

Installed Yosemite and now Microsoft Office does not work. Help!!

What version of Office is it, and what version of OS X were you running prior to your upgrade? You need to be on Office 2008 or later, and Office 2011 is preferable.

  • Why is my Microsoft Word document not working correctly with Pages

I have created a new CV (Resume) in Microsoft Word on my work computer, it is using the latest version of Office. When I attempted to open the document in Pages on my home Mac, the formatting was slightly incorrect, but the main issue is it is missing two pages! The exact same document when opened in Word has three pages but in Pages, it only has one! I have had nothing but problems with Pages since I bought it! Can someone please help me get Pages to work correctly with my documents that are created in Word! Than you.

Pages does not allow a single cell in a table to span more than a page and there may be other problems that you also have not told us about.
Redo your CV using the excellent Pages templates, Word's templates are Uuuugly!
Being text based, with good typographical layout, those Pages templates should translate accurately back and forth from Pages to Word.
Frankly CVs don't require anything fancy. You could do an excellent, well laid out and very attractive CV in TextEdit which is no slouch in the word processing department.
    Peter
PS Start off by saving your Word CV to .rtf or .txt which will strip off most of the bad formatting. Then reopen it in Pages or drag in the snippets of text into a Pages CV template's placeholders to automatically format the text nicely.

  • Define a word feature in Word does not work

    Hi Support,
When users right click on a word in a Word document, and then click on Define, they get prompted with the following message:
"To use a dictionary, you must be signed in using your Microsoft account,"
but we do not allow users to sign into any Microsoft Office service, and even when we allowed the option for user to sign in, they still need to sign in with a Microsoft account. How do we get around this issue in a corporate environment? We would prefer
if every user does NOT have to log in to define a word or use a dictionary.
    Thank you

Could you use the built-in thesaurus instead? It should do for most purposes. You can start the thesaurus by pressing Shift+F7.
    Stefan Blom, Microsoft Word MVP
Yes, I suggested the Shift+F7, but we still would like to know why it does not work or how to make it work.  As a matter fact, I tried it again signing with my Microsoft (Hotmail) account, and this is what I got:
Sorry, there are no dictionaries available for this language.

  • Windows 8.1 Standard with Microsoft Account does not work with WSE 2012

    I have a WSE 2012 machine with 3 users & 3 devices setup.
My Windows 8 (Standard) Laptop with Local User connects fine.
My Windows 8.1 (Standard) Nettop with Local User connects fine.
But my Windows 8.1 (Standard) Laptop with a Microsoft Account does not automatically login to the Server. It worked fine when it was running Windows 8 with a Local User but unfortunately in 8.1, MS decided to force a Microsoft Account login on us if I want
to continue to use Sky Drive! That would be fine, but now it wont login to their own server product...
I've tried adding a Windows Credential (set at Enterprise level) to the Credentials manager but it just gets forgotten on reboot.
If I log into the LaunchPad (which creates a temporary credential) then it works fine HOWEVER the "remember me" tick box is being ignored and the next time I restart the PC the LaunchPad is signed out again!
    I've re-installed the connector.
I've removed the PC from WSE, un-installed the connector and then re-joined. (Done this twice, once as a local user and then converted to MS Account, and once as an MS Account.)
Basically, I just don't think WSE2012 with non-Pro versions of 8.1 on a MS Account have been tested and MS need to either fix it or document it. If someone could just get the LaunchPad to remember my local login and automatically start on next reboot then
it wouldn't be a problem. OR stop launch pad from deleting the manual credentials I added everytime I reboot. At the moment it's the worst of both worlds.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Susan,
Thanks very much for replying, but if you re-read my post you'll see that I already know how to do that and also that I don't want to change back to a local account because I need Skydrive access.
Essentially as it stands, I can use Windows 8.1 with WSE but lose SkyDrive (and any other MS Account benefits) or I can use an MS Account with Windows 8.1 but lose permanent access to my server shares and client backups...
Reading around it seems that it's perfectly possible to have an MS Account and then do one of the following:
Use a Windows Credential stored for the local user to give access to the Server.
Set the LaunchPad to automatically log in at start-up.
If on a Domain, go into settings and Link the MS Account to your Domain Account.
Unfortunately none of these options are working for me (3 isn't even possible with 8.1 Std).

  • Dictionary and selecting words does not work for Japanese documents

You can start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).<br />
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.<br />
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.<br />
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")<br />

  • Microsoft Word does't work in Lion?

I recently installed Lion and my Microsoft Word 2008 isn't working... It says PowerPC apps are not supported? what does this mean and do I need to buy a new Word?

If you find yourself still needing to use Office 2004, such as for legacy files that do not translate correctly in Office 2011, consider installing Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7 in Lion:
For example, I have an Excel 2004 chart that is trashed when opened in Excel 2011.  I use this method to open it in Excel 2004, make weekly modifications and save as Excel 2004.

The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "-<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_System>"
that is the message i got when i tried to use microsoft word, how do i fix it?

See if reinstalling Word fixes it. Otherwise, since Word is not an Apple product, you should consider posting your question on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products, as they are geared more toward the issue than an Apple forum:

  • Product Key for Microsoft Word is not working

I just recently purchased Microsoft word 2011 for my new Macintosh and the product key that you e-mailed me keeps showing up as invalid? What should I do?

    Hi,
For issues about Invalid product key errors in Office for Mac 2011, you can refer to this kb below:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2390862/en-us
Please try the methods in this kb, verify that the correct product key is entered, troubleshoot the Operating System or obtain a replacement product key to try again.
If none of them helps, since we only provide support for Office for Windows in this forum, you should post the question to Office for Mac forum:
