Microsoft word - ghost texting

I had copied a large word document from a CD and after using Microsoft word for student and teachers edition I started seeing some ghost text on the desktop. The more I used the document the worst the ghost text has gotten.
It is now on the desktop and also on any application Iopen. Internet, applications, games etc...
I contacted Microsoft and followed their instructions but it did not work.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Should I delete Microsoft office? I do have Applecare and did run the Techtool Deluxed disk but nothing came up.
Any suggestions?

Haley,
You really need to purchase either a Stand-alone license just for Word or purchase an Office suite that includes Word to continue using it after the trial period. However, if you are going to purchase it consider these first:
Your company where you work may of employee discounts at numerous vendors, even Microsoft. I just purchased the entire Enterprise Edition of Office under the Home Use Program for $19.99 through my company. I also purchased other MS Products at the same price.
If your company doesn't have a employee discount with Microsoft, try the Student & Teacher edition that sales for around $100 or just the Word program itself. This edition has very liberal qualification requirements.
If you are affliated with the military, the Military edition is a lot less available on base.
If you buy it from E-Bay or similar auction site, be careful. I know that sometimes they sell other than legal software no matter how original it looks it is still a bad deal and when the program fails you will be left out in the cold.
I hope this helps you.

  • Microsoft Word Document Text Highlighting

    Hi,
I am using a servlet to open a Microsoft Word Document for viewing of the user. This works fine. The dialog box appears asking the user whether he wants to Save or Open the document. He can choose any and in the latter case the documents opens in a new window also.
The problem is that I want to highlight one paragraph in the text of this Word document when it opens. I have not been able to find any way to achieve this. If someone can help me in this I would be really thankful. Is there really a way to highlight the text of a file on runtime through code???????
    Regards,
    Talal

The POI you downloaded has support for Word and Excel documents. Apparently if you have CVS there are classes for PowerPoint files as well in the scratchpad area:

Don't know about PDFs, but I found this interesting page that might give you some insight:

  • Microsoft Word 2007 Text Form Fields: Cannot limit characters

    Hi there,
Thank you very much for taking the time to check this post out.
I know that someone had already put a similar question up (a few years ago) and it got resolved, but there was no information as to how the fix was applied or what went wrong with the document, so that is why I am posting this problem now :)
On page 2 of the document (Sample file
    ) under the headings of:
    Identified Hazards
    Control Method
    Review Responsibility
the form field will not limit the number of characters although it has been stipulated in the Text From Field Options , the result being, when I put the template under protection
for data input, the spacings change or I get to the end of the line and some of the previous typed text disappears.
Surely there should be some fix out there, or an explanation of why it doesn't work (? corrupted document?).
I'd be most grateful for any assistance you provide.
    Cheers,
    TheShyButterfly
Hope you have a terrific day, theShyButterfly

Thank you to all for your responses :)
I also tried changing the font type .... as I found this article, which really made me understand how the different font types have different character widths within the same font and how that impacts on the number of character you want to limit to.
    The link is
Word Tips by Allen Wyatt and there he advises that one of the most
    Extract:
"For instance, if you don't want your field to wrap to the next line, then you need to set a maximum length guaranteed to fit on a single line. Calculating such a length can be difficult, particularly if you are using a proportional font. For this reason,
some people like to set the font of their fields to a monospace font, such as Courier; it makes calculating field lengths easier."
    Also from Wikipedia,
Monospaced fonts which explains how 'size' actually matters :).
I just thought I'd share what I have found as this appears to have resolved my problem. (It just took some time to discover it ) ...

  • Exporting WMF's to Microsoft Word and preserving anchors toggles

I'm creating artwork (lineart) in Illustrator CS3, and would like to place the art into a Microsoft Word 2003 text document and when completed with the project save the word document as a pdf. So that in the end we can open the pdf and be able to edit the page back in illustrator. The problem is that when we are in the pdf and go to advanced editing to edit page it does open the page up in Illustrator so that it can be modified but the artwork has not preserved the toggles (anchors) for the vector line formation but has chopped up an acr or circle into many smaller segments. Is there a way to preserve the anchor points in exporting? Or, am I on the wrong track and is there a better way to accomplish this? Really appreciate any insight. Thanks

Illustrator's conversion to WMF is awful. That's why I usually recommend hi-res PNG when exporting Illustrator art to Worst. In this case, since further editing is being done in Illustrator, I think you'd be better off leaving Worst our of it and just doing everything in Illustrator.

    Hi Peter, Dear all:
My console shows about 100 of the following messages per minute
2013-01-31 2:05:59.871 PM Microsoft Word[4332]: bind_window_backing: cannot map backing data shmem

Besides that and since I upgraded to 14.3.0 two days ago, MS Word has crashed on me about 30 times (editing a plain simple text only document with track changes) and I've tons of problems with Word's GUI. I have submitted a couple feedback messages describing the problems to MS.
Realizing this is not the perfect place for this topic note that I have not found any statements from MS re problems with 14.3.0 yet and this is the first discussion I am aware of that recognizes a potential issue with the recent upgrade. My intent is merely to generate some momentum, so please contact MS if you do have problems with 14.3.0 - thanks!

Why Acrobat x professional is changing the text formatting specifically the font family  and the font size of the text in my pdf on exporting it to Microsoft word file format ?How should i stop Acrobat x professional from doing that so that i get an exactly same word file on exporting it from its pdf counterpart?

I was testing the preciseness & efficiency of Adobe acrobat x professional's doc conversion capabilities. As i have to take a document editing project in future which is going to need lot of pdf to word and vice versa conversions . What I did was I created a test word document converted into a pdf using a pdf maker in my word 2007 , Acrobat did convert the document from word to pdf keeping everything in the source file intact , However when i tried the other way round and attempted to convert the same pdf to word 2007 file format I lost my formatting ?So the font that I used to create the pdf are the ones taken from word 2007 which i believe is using the fonts that are installed in my computer. Any suggestions on how to preserve the formatting of the document after converting it from pdf to word file format?
    Regards
    Mike

  • Printer reduces size of text taken from internet; printer expands margins Microsoft Word 2007

    1)  HP Officejet J6480 All-in-one
    2)  Windows 7 64-bit
No error message, no changes to system.
Recently, and I'm not sure why, my printer began shrinking the text which it prints from the internet.  It does not have this problem printing a pdf file or from Microsoft Word or the like.  I'm not sure if this only occurs when i print selected text as opposed to printing what the screen sees.  The shrunk text appears to be approximately 5.25 by 7 inches.  If I print double sided, the problem still persists.  Please let me know what I can do; I have gone through the printer options and verified that I had selected letter sized paper to print on.
In addition, one smaller issue;  I frequently print from Microsoft Word in which I always set my paper margins to 1" all around the paper.  On the top margin only, the printer expands it to 1.25 inches and compresses the entire text.  (I have held up printed papers to my computer screen to be sure).  All of the other margins are correctly formatted.  Thank you for your assistance.  I use Microsoft Word 2007

  • Best way to import Microsoft Word text?

Newbie question. I've been importing Microsoft Word text just using the clipboard. That is, I'll open Microsoft Word, open my document, select all, copy, and then go to InDesign and paste. InDesign gives me a text block with my text and I just re-size the columns. The text comes in all weird and I have to stylize it, of course. Sometimes I get some junk like nonbreaking characters and other hidden characters which screw me up until I figure out what's going on. My question is: what's the best way to import Microsoft Word text that will introduce the fewest errors? Thanks.

When attempting to open a hyperlink to a PDF file on the web from a Microsoft WORD for Mac 2011 (14.3.9) document, Safari 7.0 instead displays the file as text?

    As seen in http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macword/has-the-word- 2011-for-mac-invisible-toolbars/018a3ab6-0570-4ad5-abf8-5b6427fdde3e?msgId=e111b f0a-0e32-4fa3-9536-f349dad8439d
    and it worked for me:
    1. Quit Word
    2. In the Finder's menu bar, select Go > Go to folder and type or paste: ~/Library/Preferences/
    3. Click on Go
    4. Locate the preference file com.microsoft.Word.plist, then Option-drag it to the desktop to create a backup copy
    5. Go to Applications/Utilities and open Terminal
    6. Paste the following bold command at the $ prompt (it's a single line):
defaults write com.microsoft.Word 14\\Toolbars\\Show_HIToolbar -boolean TRUE
    7. Press Return and then quit with Command Q
    8. Start Word and test. If the fix works, trash the backup file in the Desktop file. Otherwise, restore it.
In the original source the author also mentions the change in Word 2008

  • Pasting text from Microsoft Word

I am working in InDesign on a Windows XP computer. When I paste text from Microsoft Word into InDesign the text loses its formatting such as italics and bold. Is there any way to maintain that formatting? I am supplied with this text by a client and I have so much formatting to do that the projects take me longer than necessary.

... and don't forget to run this set of macros in Word BEFORE you do copy/paste ;)

Why is the text garbled when I convert a pdf file to  microsoft word ?

    Hi amedah,
Could you please try converting any other PDF file with same fonts and then check.
It might also happen due to use of some poor fonts which result in garbled text.
    Is the PDF scanned?
    Let me know.

Another method is tosave your Word document as an a web page.  Then open the htm file, copy the text and paste into an HTML snippet on your web page.  Resize to show all the document and publish. It will retain the style, font and alignment of the original Word document.

  • How to fix width of plain text content control in Microsoft Word 2010?

I try to make the simplest solution for my custom to modify current Word template without hard code anything except field name.
As you can see above image, normally text field in Word is not fixed width control. So, it may affect document layout. Moreover, I want to add dotted line below all text fields in document template.
Is there any possible solution that end-user can do in normal Microsoft Word 2010 application?
PS. I will fill all controls with data from Microsoft Access.

In PDF file, I can easily create fix-size absolute position field inside document template like the following document. In Microsoft Word, I cannot fix even the size of plain text field.
PS. Nobody use table with fixed cell size as normal form (hard copy). I think Microsoft Word is really bad choice for creating any document template by end-user.
Criticizing Word for not doing the same as some other application is hardly relevant. Have you tried word-processing with Adobe Acrobat?
As for your PS, Word tables are ideal for the kind of thing you describe. Your assertion that 'nobody' does so is plain ignorance - it is a common practice. In my previous employment,
many forms were created using Word tables. Before complaining Word is a 'really bad choice', you should learn how to use it.

  • What would cause the printer to only print text in microsoft word but no images

i have a  hp deskjet D1320 printer, windows xp operating system, and i have always printed greeting cards from microsoft word by inserting an image and then printing it with the printer set to duplex(2sided)printing option, so after you print the image you flip the card around and then print the text on the inside of the card. now the printer does not print any images when i insert the image and then click print it just runs 1 piece of paper through the printer and stops but it will still print text just fine, does anyone know what would cause this type of an issue?

    Hi there hwnugent,
Try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here:

It can fix a lot on its own and if not give a better idea of what is going on. Let us know the results.
