"microsoftmousehelper" needs Rosetta after SL install
I installed Snow Leopard on my MacBook (2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo) and everything seems to run fine. However, when I "startup" system I receive a "Software Update Message" saying "To Open Microsoftmousehelper, you need to install Rosetta.
I don't have a Microsoft mouse, I do use a Logitech trackball though, and I never received this message prior to Snow Leopard install.
My trackball seems to work fine without "Microsoftmousehelper" so I would like to get rid of this rather annoying "request" permanently.

I've been getting the Rosetta reminder also, once upgrading from L to SL on my MBA. And whenever I would click to install it, I would get the following dialogue box: "The digital signature on the update is missing or invalid. The update may have been tampered with since being signed by Apple. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs." This Rosetta seems to be popping up related to a few different things. So - no install on the Rosetta.

Canon MP 600 Printer not working after Leopard Install
I installed the Leopard OS and now my Canon MP 600 printer that purchased at the MAC store with my Mac in Aug of this year. It was working properly prior to the Leopard install. I tried re-installing the printer drivers, but no change. I can see my MP 600 as the only printer available. I am also unable to even print a 'test' page. When I run the Network Diagnostics everything is fine, but no printing.
Any suggestions?I tried this. I also tried updating the CUPS config file as was noted elsewhere. The printer is a total no-show on Leopard.
It is being served by an older G4 whose only job is to serve the printer.
On Tiger it would just *be there* to print to. All the Panther computers see it as a "shared printer" in the printer box.
In Leopard.... not a &^^&% thing.

Keeps crashing after Yosemite install - Need thoughts on what to do...
My 2013 Macbook Air keeps crashing after Yosemite install, time between crashes are more random than consistent and it can be anytginh from one hour to 6 hours between crashes. Enclosed the report below with the hope that someone has some tips on what to do here.... I've formatted the computer, reinstalled the OS and checked the drive for errors and I've found nothing so far.
Would be very grateful for any thoughts/tips on what to do here...

Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.

After clean install of Snow Leopard, Time Machine did not restore all files. When I try to restore these files I get "Not enough disk space" error. What do I need to do to get these important files back onto my Mac from my external hard drive??

For what the Apple Store's charge you can buy almost buy a new computer.
Just for giggles I brought my old laptop in for a drive upgrade and asked, they wanted $600 for a drive that only cost $120 at the time and it was a slow 5,400 RPM drive. The new Mac's of a similar make were going for $1000.
I did the drive replacement myself, got a faster drive of better quality for $300 instead.
Then another time I asked for a RAM upgrade from 4GB to 8GB, they wanted to charge $400 + $35 for the labor.
The same RAM is on Crucial.com for $90 and all I need is a 00 micro phillips screwdriver.
So you see what's going on here.
I think what you should do, if your out of warranty/AppleCare, is to call up the local PC tech guy who also does Mac's and have them fix you right up.
They can offer more personalized care which you need. Clone your old drive to the new and everything.
With Apple they are overworked at the Genius Bar and just place roadblocks so you buy a new machine instead.
For instance, all new iMac's now have proprietary drive software installed on the hard drives for heat monitoring. So now the only choice a user has is to bring their iMac into a Apple Store for a very expensive drive upgrade, which a person then decides the money is better spent buying a new machine. -

You have a Retina MacBook Pro, it runs OS X 10.7 or 10.8.
It won't run Snow Leopard (10.6) and Rosetta is only for Snow Leopard to run older PowerPC processor based programs when Mac's used to have those instead of the Intel processors they all have now.
So that software your installing is incredibly old, if you bought it, return it for a refund.
Also you don't need a anti-virus for OS X, Apple installed one for all OS X 10.6.8-10.8 users.
If you need anti-virus to clean the Windows files of their malware before passing it on, then the free ClamXav does the job.

All rosetta apps crash after SL install
After installing SL on my iMac, ALL of my rosetta apps crash when trying to launch. They are all apps that are supposed to work with SL, in fact a couple of them that are on my Macbook run just fine after I upgraded the Macbook to SL.
I reinstalled SL several times, once with rosetta checked in custom install, all with the same result. I ended up doing a full restore to Leopard 10.5.8 from TM so that I can get my work done today. Maybe this next weekend I will try again to upgrade, but I am very hesitant.
Anyone else have similar problems? Maybe rosetta is not installing correctly or conflicting with something on this particular Mac?No violation is taking place, (please don't jump to conclusions). One program that I use everyday for my work has been through 4 or 5 upgrades that was done through downloads, and now that program is no longer supported or being sold for the Mac. Getting an install CD from the company is impossible and even if I could install the last version that I do have an install CD for, getting it upgraded to the latest working version would be impossible.
Of course, the other apps that are not working will be able to all be installed again after contacting the different vendors and downloading the programs again. Still a big hassle....
And I did try to reinstall one of them while I was still running SL and the installer, which required rosetta, would also crash and I was unable to reinstall. So I believe that there is more to my problem than having used Migration Assistant at one time. -

I looked through some other discussions like this, and found out that all of my files are correct. Some people are saying that they needed to remove Filebot, but I can't find that on my computer. Help, please?

Need help restoring iTunes Library and iPhoto Library after re-install???
some history, my 5 1/2 year old iMac started as Tiger, upgrade to Leopard and then to Snow Leopard...the latter being done after Snow Leopard came to market. Over a week ago I developed a Disk error that could not be fixed by the repair disk and everything else that Apple could come up with. The iMac at this point was pretty unresponsive. (It had been running great for years) Anyhow the decision was made to do a complete restore. Time Machine had made a backup just the previous day or two earlier plus I have close to 2 years of other SL backups. So per Apple, we did a full install of Leopard followed by a upgrade to Snow Leopard, followed by installing all the updates. We then reinstalled iWorks (with iTunes and iPhoto) and installed those updates as well. So now I had an empty itunes and iPhoto.....Now it gets confing for me! It was late at night and the Apple folks were shutting down. They simply said, Go to your last Time Machine back up date and hit restore and you will be all set. Well...what ever it restored, I can't find my music or photos. I called the next night, again it was late and we only had a short time but this person had me do a system Migration...to restore everything back to the way it was before......So now I have 100 gigs of everything I recognize from my applications to all the stuff in my User file and it would appear everthing else. The problem is....I can't find my old iPhoto library or my itunes library anywhere and I am scared to death that I have lost them despite all my Time Machine Back-ups. Worried and concerned!!! Bill

If you need to, you should be able to selective restore things from later backups, via the "Star Wars" display. See #15 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum)., if you're not sure how to do that.
I am going to watch like a hawk and if it does occur then I know I probably have some HD issues.
Good plan. You might want to run this: [Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509]. Run the Extended tests.
I also think I may do something like a Carbonite back-up in addition to my external HD.
That will be excruciatingly slow. See #27 in the FAQ for some other suggestions. -

Are these shown in the App Store's Updates page? If not, then you don't need them. You could download the full Mavericks installer application if you want to create a bootable USB flash drive installer or just to keep handy should you need it (store it in your Downloads folder.)

After I install OS X Mavericks, My display will intermittent shut off. Do I need to update my video card?
Check your settings for display sleep in System Preferences > Energy Saver.
And be careful if you contemplate changing your video card- Mavericks may not be compatible with a different video card.
