Migrate accounts from solaris-8 to solaris-10

Hi,
first excuse my english :-p
I have two mail servers (), the oldest (enterprise 250) runs under solaris-8, the newest (enterprise 450) runs under solaris-10.
I am going to transfer users e-mail accounts, I use the /etc/password and /etc/shadow for authentication, so I don't know how to transfer users passwords from solaris-8 to solaris-10
I tried to copy one user's pass from shadow file into the nes server but it doesn't work
any idea???
thanks

Upgrades from either Solaris 8 or 9 are supported (see the Release Notes http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-0552 section on "Changes in Upgrade Support for Solaris Releases").
As for whether to upgrade or install anew, it depends. If you just want to have the system set up as much as possible like it is now except with the new OS, upgrade. If you'd like a chance for a fresh start, where you may have to do some work re-applying configuration and other changes you made, but end up leaving behind some old changes you no longer need, then an initial install might be appropriate.

  • Problem migrating account from one active directory domain to another. Using NetBIOS

    Hello,
    I'm migrating a Lion machine from one domain to another. When I try to join it to abc.example.com it joines it to 123.example.com in the list of domains. 123.example.com is the NetBIOS name of abc.example.com. This configuration does not work.
    What is even more strange, is if I go into the Open Directory Utility > Active Directory to set the create mobile account settings, once I apply the settings (or even if I don't apply the settings) when I get back to the list of domains, it show BOTH abc.example.com and 123.example.com as domains I am joined to. If I remove 123.example.com it removes abc.example.com.
    I've only seen this problem one other time and this was with a snow leopard machine that was not bound to AD. I upgraded it to Lion and tried to bind it, and had the exact same thing occur.
    I'm certain there is a "stuck" setting somewhere that is causing this. I have had successful snow leopard > lion upgrades work, and many lion machines joined to AD so this does work normally. Just not sure whats wrong or really where to look.
    The OS is fully patched and updated to the current version.
    Any thoughts?

    Case 1:
    Here you can written pre-update event handler which will check whether minor and major org code changed or not.
    If changed then first starts de-provisioning and then start provisioning.
    If not changed then do nothing.
    This approach will not transfer accounts from one domain to another but it will create fresh accounts and remove accounts from old domain.
    Case2:
    If you want to transfer accounts from one domain to another in that on pre-update you have to change OU of user on process which automatically move to another domain.
    but not sure about exchange it is possible to move to another domain.
    hopping that all domains under same forest otherwise same Connector Sever will not work.

  • Migrate account from MBR to MBA not posible!?

    I have a MBR 15"  and  my wife a MBA 13". My wife started to use some 3d software so we decided to switch. Of course i had 2 time machine hdd. So i started the migration. First i migrated my wife account from MBA to MBR. Worked fine. But when i inserted my time machine in the MBAir the latest backup is from December 2012. So my time machine from jan to july 2013 aren't displayed in the backups list.
    I must mention that the method that i used is command + R when booting, entered in recovery mode and selected the first method: restore from Time machine.
    Then i went in mac os and tried the migration Assistant software. Again MBA doesn't find my profile from the MBR in the.
    Anyone tried this !?

    Hi Brent,
    If the originating MacBook is using Mail 2.x or Mail 3.x (which has to be the case) then you only need to transplant the com.apple.mail.plist file from Home/Library/Preferences and the Mail folder from Home/Library to replace any that may exist (but probable don't yet) on the iMac. No migration utility needed at all, and Mail will open just where it was on the MacBook, with all accounts and messages present.
    The same can be done with the AddressBook folder from Home/Library/Applications Support.

  • Problems migrating accounts from tiger to leopard

    I have been attempting to migrate my company's open directory from tiger server over to leopard. the method i have taken to do this is to use ldapsearch to retrieve the ldif from the old directory. and ldapadd to add it to the new directory. Before importing into the new, i went thru and replaced the authAuthority strings in the ldif with the key from the new server via "mkpassdb -key" the accounts appear in WGM, however if i browse to an account i only see "Basic", "Privileges", and "Advanced" as options. I can however get all the tabs to show up if i kill WGM, relaunch it, and look at an account. but after i look at one, they all revert to showing me only the 3 tabs. I have one account that existed in the new directory before the import and it behaves as normal.
    since the import i have also noticed alot of this in the logs:
    Feb 11 16:14:41 finder slapd[40]: <= bdbsubstringcandidates: (authAuthority) index_param failed (18)
    Feb 11 16:15:20 finder slapd[40]: <= bdbsubstringcandidates: (authAuthority) index_param failed (18)

    Hi
    Archive the LDAP Database, do the upgrade/install to Leopard. Make sure your DNS config is the same as it was when the server was 10.4.11. Spend time on this and test this thoroughly. In fact don’t start any other service until you have this as it should be. Promote to OD Master, use the same details for the Directory Administrator (diradmin) account that you used before and restore the LDAP Database. All Users, Groups, Computer Lists, MCX and passwords should be retained.
    The manual is correct in saying that Users passwords are not retained when exporting from WGM. However it should not be a problem (if the first method does not work) to select all relevant users and define a policy forcing users to change their passwords next time they login. Saves you the finger work. You could also inform your users what you wish them to use or the form the passwords should take.
    Hope this helps, Tony

  • Migration from Sun solaris 8 to Solaris 10

    Hi,
    We are migrating from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 with the compiler migration also earlier we are using Sun Studio 6 and now it is Sun Studio 11.

    100 typedef list<ResElement *>::iterator ResListIterator;
    We are using a /opt/SUNWspro/bin/CC compiler and the verison is CC: Sun C++ 5.8
    Please help me out about the issue

    Since you are jumping several compiler releases and two Solaris releases, you should migrate in two steps.
    1. Get your application working with Sun Studio 11 on Solaris 8.
    2. You can now run that application on Solaris 10, or you can rebuild it on Solaris 10 and then run it.
    An application built on Solaris 8 will run on Solaris 9 and 10.
    An application built on Solaris 10 cannot be run on Solaris 8 or 9.
    We promise upward binary compatibility, allowing an old binary to be used with a newer compiler or on a newer Solaris. But we can't promise source code compatibility because we don't want to have to duplicate old bugs in old compilers.
    C++ 5.8 in Sun Studio 11 detects errors that older compilers might have missed. The rules about where to use "typename" are one example.
    I would not expect the warning about typename to be generated by either of the source code lines that you show, but I can't really tell without seeing a compilable example.
    You need to use typename when you use a type that depends on a template parameter. Example:
    template <class T> class C1 {
    public:
        typedef T Type;
    template <class T> class C2 {
    public:
        typename T::Type a;
    C2< C1<int> > c2i;If in C2 you do not specify typename, the compiler does not know whether T::Type is intended to be the name of a type. If it is not a type, the code is always invalid. The C++ rule is that if an an identifier is not known to be a type, it is not a type. You use typename to tell the compiler that T::Type is supposed to be the name of a type.

  • Migration Oracle 8.17 from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10

    Is it possible to migrate Oracle 8.1.7 from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10? I find out the papers or the practices from internet that were done before. Do you have any documents said that or gurantee success?

    Perhaps contact Oracle.
    http://www.oracle.com
    Maybe they will know how to make version 8.1.7 work with newer
    distributions of various OS's.
    After all, it is their product, not Sun's product.

    Hi,
    I'm currently working with Analytics on UNIX
    (Solaris) and perform actions similar to yourself:
    1. Develop RPD in Windows (Analytics Admin Tool)
    2. Post to server (here I use an S/FTP-emulation tool such as WinSCP/Core
    FTP), this handles any conversion of the file needed, i.e. to UNIX version.
    3. Start Analytics services.
    In your case :- Open Solaris server via ftp and copy your Solaris rpd in window system then again try to login linux via ftp paste the related folder. FTP software like (Winscp software am using)
    There is no much complex in this migration.
    Hope this help's

  • Migration from AIX Oracle8i to Solaris Oracle8i?

    Hi,
    I wonder how to migrate Oracle 8i (8.1.7) on AIX to Oracle
    8i (8.1.7) on Solaris?
    The Oracle version is the same, but only the O.S platform is
    different. I have found the migration information from Oracle
    web site but it only talks about migration between different
    database.
    Thanks.

    > In our organisation, we are planning to migrate from AIX6.1 to Solaris x64. The processor which we'll be using is UltraSPARC+IV processor.
    Well - I think you're mixing a few things up here.
    Solaris x64 refers to Solaris on the Intel or the AMD processor (x64 == x86_64 == AMD64)
    UltraSPARC IV+ refers to a CPU developed by Sun (now Oracle).
    > 1. Which guide to refer for moving the SAP System from AIX6.1 to Solaris
    There are no specific guides for OS migrations. You use the heterogeneous system copy approach. However, migrating a database and/or operating system requires a certified migration consultant on-site doing the migration. If you do it yourself you'll loose support from SAP for problems during the migration and for the target system (see http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration).
    > 2. Is UltraSPARC+IV processor is supported for Oracle 10g
    Yes. Solaris 10 on SPARC Is supported.

    If the Solaris 9 driver uses only official / documented kernel
    interfaces the same driver binary should run without problem on
    Solaris 10.
    All bets are off if the Solaris 9 driver is using internal kernel
    data structures that are not part of the kernel / driver api.
    Such a driver could fail by just installing OS patches to the system.

    There is no special issues about running Java code created on NT on Solaris.
