Migrate Installation Server to NEW Server

Hi,
i want to move our current Installtion Server to a NEW Server but i dont find any information about the procedure to do that. The old Server was a Windows 2003 R2 and the new one is Windows 2008 R2. Has somebody done this before?
Thanks
Hildwin Wonner

Hi Klaus-Georg,
Yes we run the Automatic Workstation Update Service. Thanks for your helpful reply but i have a question.
You wrote:
However in case your client PCs run the Automatic Workstation Update Service, they will still look on the old server, until they have run the first installation/update from the new one.
Do i must do a complete installation from the new Server on the Clients or is it enought to update a Package on the new Server and save them?
Or is it easier to change the Registry because i found this:
Under
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SAP\SAP Shared
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SAP\SAP Shared\SAP_WUS
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SAP\SAP Shared\SAPBI
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SAP\SAP Shared\SAPBW
a key named SAPSourceDir with the UNC Path
We use Windows 7 x64.
Best regards
Hildwin

  • Migrate SCCM 2012 to new server

I need to migrate our SCCM 2012 installation to a new server. Both the old and new servers will be up concurrently if necessary. What steps do I need to take to do this?
Also, I want to upgrade to SP1 at the same time. Can I install SP1 on the new box alongside my current RTM install and do the migration or do I have to do the upgrade as a completely separate step after migration is complete?
    Thanks.

Backup ConfigMgr on the old server (using the built-in maintenance task or a SQL backup; keep in mind to backup ContentLib, sources for applications, drivers, wim files etc!). Shut down server. Install new server (same name + domain + partition layout).
Install ConfigMgr. Restore ConfigMgr backup. I don't know if it's supported to change the SP level at the same time. I would not recommend changing too much things simultaneously though.

  • Migrate from server core 2008 r2 hyper-v with failover cluster volumes to server core 2012 r2 hyper-v with failover cluster volumes on new san hardware

We are getting ready to migrate from server core 2008 r2 hyper-v with failover cluster volumes on an iscsi san to server core 2012 r2 hyper-v with failover cluster volumes on a new iscsi san.
I've been searching for a "best practices" article for this but have been coming up short.  The information I have found either pertains to migrating from 2008 r2 to 2012 r2 with failover cluster volumes on the same hardware, or migrating
to different hardware without failover cluster volumes.
If there is anyone out there that has completed a similar migration, it would be great to hear any feedback you may have on your experiences.
Currently, my approach is as follows:
    1. Configure new hyper-v with failover cluster volumes on new SAN with new 2012 r2 hostnodes and 2012 r2 management server
    2. Turn off the virtual machines on old 2008 r2 hyper-v hostnodes
    3. Stop the VMMS service on the 2008 r2 hostnodes
    4. copy the virtual machine files and folders over to the new failover cluster volumes
    5. Import vm's into server 2012 r2 hyper-v.
Any feedback on the opertain I have in mind would be helpful.
    Thank you,
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
Yes , I agree with that "file copy " can achieve migration.
Also you can try "copy cluster wizard " :

  • Migrate Mirror Database to New Server

    Hi,
I need to migrate my SQL server Mirror Database to
a new server. my current setup is as below
    1. server A principal (192.168.1.100)
    2. server B Mirror     (192.168.1.200)
now i have a new server (Server C) to replace server B as below
    1. server A principal (192.168.1.100)
    2. server C Mirror     (192.168.1.300)
my question is how to migrate mirror db to new server without any affect or downtime on principal server, please share idea/experience for above.
    note: SQL SERVER 2008R2 EE(64BIT), Win2008R2 EE 64bit.
    Regard
    Faisal Wahid

    Thanks for your quick response.
Is it possible something like in oracle (pardon as i am oracle DBA not sql server guy),
(Oracle Steps to migrate standby(mirror) db to new server)
    1. Pause replication on primary(principal)
    2. Move standby(mirror) database files to new server(using copy/rman/etc).
    3. Update connection information (TNS in oracle) on primary(principal) to point new server.
    4. Start replication on primary(principal).
the above steps will simply migrate the standby(mirror) database to new server,
can we do something like above in sql server?

I should add that the source server's AD configuration might not be perfect due to this being the second attempt at a SBS 2011 migration install.
I'd be grateful for any help I can get on this as SBS migration has been plauged with multiple setbacks already. I really need to get this done! ;)
    Thanks,
    Voon

Thank you Larry and Al for your replies.
    I used the 'official' migration
    guide plus this page (http://www.techieshelp.com/step-by-step-guide-to-migrating-to-sbs-2011/)
as my migration references. The SBS migration prep tool gave no errors on the source server when I ran it.
I have a full system drive image plus a a system state backup from before migration. Though I am very loathed to rollback the migration and attempt a new one - again. I will do some searching to see if I can resolve the Exchange server problem and continue
the migration/installation. If not, then its a system state restore for me. One of Al's links had a resource for doing a thorough check of AD - which something I'd run if I have to another migration attempt.
I am also really tempted to open up a paid MS support ticket for them to help me fix this problem. :)

  • After Migration to Server 2012 R2 One Zip Archive (7.08 mb) Downloads Empty

I recently migrated from Server 2008 R2 to 2012 R2. I offer a number of web application as zip archives and Dreamweaver Extension installer packages .mxp. I have one zip archive that's empty when downloaded with size 0. Out of all the files served
the issue only exists with this one file. All the other files regardless of .zip or .mxp work correctly. I think it may be a size related issue. The .zip file that is empty is 7.08 mb and the others are much smaller. I've tried deleting the existing file
and uploading a new one with and without a file name change and still get same results. Here's the code.
I'm thinking I may need to allow the larger file download. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Migrating SQL Server 7.0 to Oracle 8i in Different Operating Systems

I am migrating SQL Server 7.0 Databases on NT to Oracle 8i on Sun 2.6. Is there is any other way other then Migration Workbench.
If Mig Workbench is OK. What are the steps to do Migration.
    null

    Hi,
You can perform this action with the Oracle Migration Workbench. Just install the Workbench on the same machine as your SQL Server database.
You can then configure the workbench to point to the oracle database on your Sun machine.
You can use the Oracle database on your Sun machine for both your destination database (the database to which you migrate your SQL Server schema and data) and workbench repository.
In order to do this you will need to configure a tnsnames.ora entry. The tool that will do this configuration for you should be started up at the end of the workbench installation. It is a fairly straightfoward process.
You then need to create a user in your oracle database that will store the workbench repository.
Once you have comleted these steps you will be able to migrate SQL Server on NT to Oracle on Sun.
It is exactly the same process as migrating to Oracle on NT except you are pointing the Workbench to Oracle on a Sun box.

  • 7.10 installation server, load balancing and multiple installation servers

    Hi
In the 7.10 GUI installation server, there is no Load balancing option anamore, also there seems to be no option to easily clone the installation server from within the nwsapsetupadmin.exe program.
If having MANY users at one location, and needing more than one installation server to accomodate the frontend installations, do you need to do this "manually" now ? grouping users and and the logon script directing different user groups to different sapgui installation servers ?
what about creating multiple installation servers easily, is it possible to simply copy the installation server directory (c:\sapinst f.ex.) to another file server, share the directory and configure the DS and IS services (if needed) ??
will configured packages and "on end install" scripts and such be copied too to the new installation server ?
I need to easily create installation servers in 15 countries, this is the reason for my question...

    Hi Kim Sonny,
    hope you're doing fine
    Regarding your question:
The "Load Balancing" was more a fail-over service and wasn't intended to use for several locations like in your case.
So the easiest way to do this is to setup one installation server and copy the files to the other servers. On the new Installation servers you only have to setup the service again and that's it.
    Cheers,
    Martin

  • No update of Business Explorer 3.50 and SCM via Installation Server 6.40

    Dear all
We use SAP Installation Server 6.40 to deploy SAP Front End 6.40 and updates. For new installations, target systems will get the latest version of SAP GUI 6.40 (PL 27), Business Explorer 3.50 (PL 13) and Supply Chain Management add-on (PL 6).
On existing installations only SAP GUI will be patched resp. updated. Business Explorer 3.50 and Supply Chain Management add-on will not be patched by Installation Server. We have checked this by local installation of patch (patch level 13, your present patch level 4). What is going wrong? Has anyone a hint how I can solve this problem?
    Thanks
    PK

Hi. I'm think first you need to chek this :
    Viewing the Log
    Use
You can check the installation by viewing the log file sapsetup.log. The log file can be found in:
    • C:\WINDOWS\ under Windows XP
    • C:\WINNT\ under Windows 2000
The most recent log has no number. The older logs are numbered. The higher the number, the older the log. Each time new log is generated, each of the log numbers is incremented by 1.
    Procedure
    1. Run saplogvw.exe from the server, to start the SAPSetup Log Viewer.
    2. Enter the path and filename of the log file.
    3. Choose Finish.
The log file is displayed. Errors are colored red. Warnings are colored blue.
Also run this in command line
    sapsetup.exe /check
    Regards.

  • Remote installation option for SAPsetup installation server  removed.

    Hi all,
I have been using SAPsetup Installation Server for distributing SAPGUI 6.4. Many options with this version, remote installation and Load Balancing to name a couple right within SAPADMIN. I have put the latest version 7.10 on a test server and those options are no longer available. Also I don't even see and upgrade option, am I missing something? Is it possible to use the old installation server to push out the new SAPGUI, if so how?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hello Jeff,
the installation software for SAPGUI 7.10is completely new and you can't distribute a SAPGUI 7.10 with an Installation Serrver installed with the SAPGUI 6.40 CD.

  • Need to transfer/migrate production server from HP-Unix to SuseLinux 11.5

Background : We are having ECC 6.0 running on HP Unix
What we need to do : want to migrate the entire production application to a new server under o/s SuseLinux 11.5 certified by SAP AG
What we are doing : there is a utility called Software Developer Tool DRYRUN using this utility want to export application to storage and from store we shall restore the application into the new server under o/s SuseLinux 11.5
What error I am getting :
Sapinst could not find the required software logistics java libraries DIAGNOSTS. The global directory may not be available at u2018/usr/sap/fpp/flobalu2019 or its contain may not be up-to-date in addition the version of the SAP NetwWeaver java system might be lower than AP6. SOLUTION, Mound the global directory and/or apply the latest support package.
Using above method we could migrate development server to SuseLinux 11.5 successfully.
If I have posted this question on wrong forum pl. guide me
    Thanks
    Nitin

    Hi Nitin,
Just to check with you, OS/DB migrations has to be performed following certain rules. HPUX is big endiand and Linux is little endian so an Heterogeneous system copy should be performed and theres only a few supported ways to perform the migration. Have you check that the usage of DRYRUN is ok and that your system will be supported after the migration?...

  • Migrating SQL Server 7 to O8i

Please refer to TAR # 2005705.995 for more details.
I am unable to migrate SQL Server 7.0 database into oracle 8i . While in the
capturing stage I get the following errors shown in the attachment . It hangs
while tyring to make indices. I tried aborting the operation but it wouldn't
let me do it . it says cannot abort the application.
After waiting for ages, I therfore use TASK MANAGER in NT I kill me OMWB
    application.
I get plenty of EXECEPTION ERRORS failed to map tables and then it gets stuck while trying to create indices.
Please refer to TAR # 2005705.995 for more details.

    Hi,
You can perform this action with the Oracle Migration Workbench.

  • Steps to migrate Project Server 2007 from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008?

We need to migrate Project server 2007 from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008.
    1. Is it as simple as doing backup and restore of databases and pointing Project Server to the new DB server? Or there are some specific steps that should be followed?
    2. Article at
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd207290(office.12).aspx is about moving databases from one DB server to another (same versions). At one place, it mentions to
backup all databases but at another place it mentions that
You should only back up the Draft and Published databases from the source database server.
What should be done when moving from 2005 to 2008?

    Gupta

High Level step you can get this form  Tech net or MSDN too
Shut down the SharePoint servers (App / Web)
backup all of the SharePoint and Project
Server databases from the SQL 2005 server
copy these over to the new SQL 2008 server and restore all of
the databases with the same names
script out all of the logins used by SharePoint/PS from the SQL 2005 server and create these on the SQL 2008 server
script out the Delete expired sessions SQL job from the SQL 2005 server and create this on the SQL 2008 server - or create them manually on the SQL 2008 server
repoint the SQL server DNS Alias from the SQL 2005 server to the SQL 2008 server, if SharePoint and Project Server was installed using the actual SQL server name and no alias, you can create a DNS alias for the old SQL 2005 server name that points to the SQL
2008 server. This is so that the SharePoint servers can still connect to the same SQL server name
    Start up the SharePoint servers

  • DHCP Failover / Migrate DHCP Server to another Machine

We have DHCP Server Installed in Domain Controller with Windows Server 2008 R2 Based OS.
I have Checked that there is no way to make the DHCP Failover in Server 2008 R2.
Can anyone help me to get some level of Failover in DHCP?
    or
If I want to migrate the DHCP to Server 2012 what is the Best Practice?

    Hello,
There is no big challenge for configuring DHCP failover in Windows 2008 platform. Kindly go through with this link for configuring DHCP failover. I am sure it will help you to completing your task.

Process of Migration DHCP Server 2008R2 to Windows 2012
    • Firstly, you can disable the DHCP role in Windows Server 2008 R2. However, if the Windows Server 2012 is down, the clients cannot renew their IP lease duration and obtain IP address.
Therefore, it is recommended to leave the DHCP role in Windows Server 2008 R2 and deploy high availability. Windows Server 2012 brings the new feature: DHCP failover. However it requires both DHCP Servers are Windows Server 2012. Consider another Server
is Windows Server 2008 R2, we have to choose one of the following:
    >> DHCP in a Windows failover cluster. This option places the DHCP server in a cluster with an additional server configured with the DHCP service that assumes the load if the primary DHCP server fails. The clustering deployment option uses
a single shared storage. This makes the storage a single point of failure, and requires additional investment in redundancy for storage. In addition, clustering involves relatively complex setup and maintenance.
    >> Split scope DHCP. Split scope DHCP uses two independent DHCP servers that share responsibility for a scope. Typically 70% of the addresses in the scope are assigned to the primary server and the remaining 30% are assigned to the backup server.
If clients cannot reach the primary server then they can get an IP configuration from the secondary server. Split scope deployment does not provide IP address continuity and is unusable in scenarios where the scope is already running at high utilization of
address space, which is very common with Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4).

  • Applying BW 3.50 patch 3 for sapgui 7.10 to a installation server

    Hi All
Im applying a few patches to a 7.10 installation server, everything works fine , except for when applying the BW 3.50 patch 3 for 7.10 GUI to the server .. well applying the patch actually works , but afterwards instead of having only 2 products to choose from on the first hierarchy level (Business Explorer and SAP GUI for Windows 7.10), there is suddenly 6 products instead (SAPGUI for windows 7.10, Engineering client viewer, bw 3.5 addon, kw addon, tweak gui and business explorer).
The real question is .. before applying the patches, I had a package called "complete" which included both available products, after applying 3.50 bw patch, the original package still contains the same two products, but is that adequate ?? or should a new package be created that includes ALL products available after the patch ?
Or .... is the original package completely patched ??
I have never before seen a patch apply additional products to the installation server ....
