Migrating an application across versions

I have inherited an application developed under HTMLDB 1.6 which I want to migrate to a box running 2.0. Will the built-in export and import utilities work or is there some extra conversion I need to do?
Thanks
Andy

Andy,
The file character set default is derived from the Database Access Descriptor character set. Obviously, for all 2.0 instances and later, this will always be Unicode UTF-8. The character encoding of the file is ultimately determined by the DAD character set.
It is a good suggestion to include as a comment in any export file the character set that was used to encode it. We will look at that for the next release of HTML DB. But your latter suggestion isn't practical, which we have thought of before. The file is uploaded as a binary object, to convert it to character, we need to know the source character set. So we could attempt to parse it as a binary file, but in multibyte and varying width character sets, that may prove difficult if not outright impossible sometimes.

  • Migrating Essbase cube across versions via file system

A large BSO cube has been taking much longer to complete a 'calc all' in Essbase 11.1.2.2 than on Essbase 9.3.1 despite all Essbase.cfg, app and db settings being same (https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2599658).
As a last resort, I've tried the following-
    1. Calc the cube on the 9.3.1 server.
    2. Use EAS Migration Wizard to migrate the cube from the 9.3.1 server to the 11.1.2.2 server.
    3. File system transfer of all ess*.ind and ess*.pag from 9.3.1\app\db folder to 11.1.2.2\app\db folder (at this point a retrieval from the 11.1.2.2 server does not yet return any data).
    4. File system transfer of the dbname.esm file from 9.3.1\app\db folder to 11.1.2.2\app\db folder (at this point a retrieval from the 11.1.2.2 server returns an "unable to load database dbname" error and an "Invalid transaction status for block -- Please use the IBH Locate/Fix utilities to find/fix the problem" error).
    5. File system transfer of the dbname.tct file from 9.3.1\app\db folder to 11.1.2.2\app\db folder (and voila! Essbase returns data from the 11.1.2.2 server and numbers match with the 9.3.1 sever).
This almost seems too good to be true. Can anyone think of any dangers of migrating apps this way? Has nothing changed in file formats between Essbase 9.x and 11.x? Won't not transferring the dbname.ind and dbname.db files cause any issues down the road? Thankfully we are soon moving to ASO for this large BSO cube, so this isn't a long term worry.

Freshly install the Essbase 11.1.2.2 on Window server 2008 r-2 with the recommended hardware specification. After Installation configure 11.1.2.2 with the DB/Schema
Take the all data back up of the essbase applications using script export or directly exporting from the cube.
Use the EAS Migration wizard to migrate the essbase applications
After the Migrating the applications successfully,reLoad all the data into cube.
    For the 4th Point
IBH error generally caused when there is a mismatch in the index file and the PAG file while e executing the calculation script .Possible solutions are available
    The recommended procedure is:
    a)Disable all logins.
    alter application sample disable connects;
    b)Forcibly log off all users.
    alter system logout session on database sample.basic;
c)Run the MaxL statement to get invalid block header information.
    alter database sample.basic validate data to local logfile 'invalid_blocks';
    d)Repair invalid block headers
    alter database sample.basic repair invalid_block_headers;

  • How to migrating planning applications version 9.2.0 to 11.1.1.3 directly

    Hi All
    Please help.
Can be migrated Planning applications from version 9.2.0 to version 11.1.1.3 directly?
There is documentation that explains the process?
    Attentive to your comments

    Hi Pedro,
The quick way, assuming you are using Classic Planning Administration in 11.1.1.3 is to export the application schema and Essbase data & objects from the 9.2.0 environment and import into the new environment.
    Thanks,
    Andy

  • Best way to migrate Applications across environments of different versions

    Hello Gurus,
Source EPM Environment - EPM 11.1.1.3
Target EPM Environment - EPM 11.1.2.2
What is the best way to migrate applications for Planning , Essbase , HFM and also the related reports from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2 .
Any help will be highly appreciated..
    Thanks
    HyperEPM.

I tried with upgrading the application and it was done pretty smoothly as compared to the LCM import export method.
Now what would be the feasible way to move all the applications when following is the scenario and we need a minimum downtime.
    1. Move from EPM 11.1.1.3 to EPM 11.1.2.2
    2. DB used to configure EPM 11.1.2.2 should be fresh and not the existing one.
    3. We want to move all the applications across to EPM 11.1.2.2 on the freshly configured EPM 11.1.2.2.
    4. Move all the applications intact across the version.
    Thanks

  • Migrating an application from JDev 10.1.3 to JDev 10.1.3.2

    Hi,
I am having trouble migrating an application made with JDev 10.1.3 to 10.1.3.2.
Everything is fine when I run it on the embedded OC4J, but when I try to deploy I have problems.
The application is deployed on OAS 10.1.3R3.
What I have done so far was to install the new ADF libraries using ADFinstaller, editing server.xml as per Note:417812.1 and include adf-faces-api.jar, adf-faces-impl.jar, jsf-api.jar, jsf-impl.jar and adfshare.jar from JDev 10.1.3.2 to my project WEB-INF/lib folder.
Some pages are working as they should, but when a date is to be displayed I have this error:
javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.jbo.domain.Date.timestampValue()Ljava/sql/Timestamp;So, am I missing some jar to be included? Have I missed a step or two?
    Thank you for your help.
    adsm

    Solved.
For some reason, once the application has been migrated, the following lines were added to orion-application.xml:
        <imported-shared-libraries>
            <import-shared-library name="adf.generic.domain" min-version="10.1.3"></import-shared-library>
            <remove-inherited name="adf.oracle.domain"></remove-inherited>
        </imported-shared-libraries>
-------I do not know if the migration tool was directly responsible for this. Anyway, as this project has been migrated time and time again from a JDev version anterior to 10, this kind of thing was bound to happen someday.
    Cheers,
    adsm

  • Certificate migration and AIR runtime versions

    Hi,
I recently migrated my AIR app from a self-signed certificate to TrustCenter real certificate. I used migrate AIR application in Aptana AIR SDK in order to make updates smooth. When I tested it using runtime 1.5 I was able to use built-in autoupdate just fine, application with TC certificate installed as an update. After migrating to AIR 2, when I try to install a new version on top of the old one I get a message 'There is already an application with the same name'. I'd like to keep the migration for as long as I can, to make sure everyone can smoothly update.
    Thanks for your help,

    Hi,
This discussion thread might help you:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2899850#2899850
In AIR 1.5, Publisher id was generated automatically from the certificate. However, from AIR 1.5.3 onwards, publisher id has been removed. So, to update apps having namespace 1.5 to apps having namespace >=1.5.3, you need to add a separate tag <publisherID> in your application.xml containing the publisherid for the older app.
Otherwise, it would be treated as a different application. More info can be found on:

Yes, but the application under 10.1.3 points to the application.jws file in the old 10.1.2 directory.
I want the application to point to the .jws file JDeveloperApplication/<application>/<application>.jws.
10.1.3 keeps this pointer somewhere and would like to change it. I scanned the jdev directory for files containing <application>.jws, and found it in the binary file jdev/system/oracle.jdeveloper.10.1.3.36.73/system.sys file, and the ide.properties file, and the system/oracle.ide.10.1.3.26.73/windowinglayout.xml file.
None of these files seem to be the place to make the adjustments.
I guess the more general question for me is "How should JDeveloper be configured to allow for migration of applications? (It does not seem to be a no-brainer!) How should it be configured when additional libraries have been included in the list libraries of prior JDeveloper version and need to be migrated/duplicated to a new version of JDeveloper? How are connections supposed to be migrated (for database, cvs, application servers)? How should JDeveloper be configured for team use? (Each member of a team should maintain identical JDeveloper configurations. Yes?)"
But, first things, first. How do I point a JDeveloper application to a different .jws and application directory?

  • Migrating VB Applications on SQL Server to Oracle Forms on Oracle 10g RAC

    Hello All,
I am looking at migrating a VB application built on a SQL Server database across to an Oracle Forms deployment with the data migrated to an Oracle 10g RAC database environment.
My first question is whether the SQL Developer Migration Workbench can migrate the SQL Server data to a RAC environment?
The second question is to ask whether there are any "toolkits" or tips from the community migrating VB applications to Oracle Forms.
Any advise or suggestions greatly accepted.
    Kind Regards,
    Gary.

SQL Developer Migration Workbench definitely can migrate SQL Server data to Oracle RAC setup.
However, I don't think VB application can be easily converted to Oracle Forms.
You can post your question in Oracle Form forum to double check.

  • Migrate DRM application from PROD to TEST environment

How I can migrate all DRM application from PROD to TEST environment. The first way this is using migrate utility and then create all export/import utility. But this way does not give 100% guaranty of identity the PROD and TEST environment.
As relation database I am using Oracle DB. Can I migrate DRM application using exp/imp utility for oracle users (MDM and MDM_DB) and after that changing information directly in oracle tables in the TEST environment?

This response is not timely but others may find it useful...
You can use the Oracle database export and import processes, but there are several additional steps in the process. In general this is a high risk endevour that should not be attempted by the faint of heart. (See #3 below!) Attempt at your own peril.
    1) Make a copy of the Username table so that you have the Test versions of the encrypted passwords for DRM internally managed accounts. These will need to be updated post import if there are any differences.
    2) After you delete the tables in Test, it's best to create them with the install scripts prior to import because once an Oracle table containing a blob datatype has a stored value the Oracle import is no longer tolerant of changes in target tablespace names for all tables containing blobs within that schema. (Known bug) However, the create tables install script has an insert statement or two that need to be commented out or the import will create duplicate rows that will cause errors enabling constraints.
    3) After the import completes all exports and books need to be modified to no longer point to production target locations, especially for exports to database tables! Ideally this step would be completed and QA'd prior to starting the application server; however, the application server must be running if the migration utility is going to be leveraged to propagate these updates so the process I use is to lockout all users until this step is completed.
    4) Also note that if the Prod and Test app servers are not using the same authentication settings the system preference needs to be changed or the application server may not start.

  • How to Migrate BSP applications into WDA

    Hi,
We have some BSP application,is it possible to migrate BSP application into WDA or we need to

There are no automated translation tools from BSP to WDA.  Although similar in structure (both MVC and Unified Renderer based), the technology implementation is very different. BSP uses MVC - and has Model and Controller objects. However these ABAP classes are in no way compatible with what Web Dynpro generates.  WDA also has the concept of Context which doesn't exist at all in base BSP (although CRMUI does have a context, this is just a wrapper around the BSP model class and isn't compatible with the WDA context either).
The view becomes even more problematic.  Although the HTMLB, XHTMLB, and PHTMLB tag libraries are similar to the standard UI elements in Web Dynpro, the WDA versions are much more advanced. You probably could map most of the properties and tags to WDA, but not everything.  However the fact that in BSP you can inject any custom HTML and JavaScript becomes an issue because there is no way to do the same in WDA.
Overall, you should just start from scratch and redesign the application as WDA.

  • Migration from the older version of the JHeadStart to the newer version

    Hi ALL,
i want to migrate an application form the older version of the JHeadStart (10.1.3) to the newest version (10.1.3.2 )
is there any things i must take care of it ??
as when i opened the application in the new JHeadStart and try to run the application definition i got java.lang.NullPointerException ???????????

In the default templates, a revision history lists the modifications made in new releases. If you know what functionality you changed compared to the old default template, you can apply that same change to the new default template.
If you use a Version Control System like CVS or Subversion, this is relatively easy. See the JHeadstart Blog post about Subversion at http://blogs.oracle.com/jheadstart/2007/02/20#a138, it includes a screen shot of how to see the changes between the old and new default templates.
See also the 2nd suggestion in section 4.7.2 of the JHeadstart Developer's Guide.
